“I am not saying we shouldn’t be responsible custodians of our world”
Actually, you are.
You are not at a disadvantage because you don’t subscribe to scientific journals, you’re at a disadvantage because you won’t read them. You cite the theory of ‘insert spin here’, that’s not clever, it’s ignorant. What theory are you talking about? Or is it easier for you to paint them all with one grand brush? Name the scientists, you say? There are no anonymous researchers out there. Every time anyone in the media talks about science they name the scientist, and where it is published. And there is plenty of independent empirical data, but Hannity and Beck don’t mention that, so you figure it’s all fiction. You are too lazy to go read the research unless it’s at Fox.com, and too ignorant to understand it if you did. But you are fully capable of trashing lifetimes of intellectual and scientific research right here with your incomplete sentences and Star Trek references.

So the other question becomes:
When will we stop being so arrogant that we think we can possibly control, maintain, alter or repair the climate of the entire planet?
Yes we are pretty well advanced in our technology, and we have come a long way from being able to make fire, but in the grand scheme of things, we are barely out of the cradle when it comes to fully understanding earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, lightening, or even our own economy.
I am not saying we shouldn’t be responsible custodians of our world, but wasting our collective efforts and financial stability on attempting to even think we can deliberately change the climate on an entire planet is leaning more toward science fiction than real applied technological science. Hell we haven’t even figured out how to get along peacefully globally. Climate control it seems, is admirably reaching for the shiny stars dangling on the mobile hanging over humanity’s crib.
Global Brain Warming pt1
The global warming issue makes me insane.
I constantly hear reports saying;
“Scientists say…” [whatever the latest spin is]
I have some simple questions.
What scientists?
NAME THEM, and the papers where they published their “scientific findings”. Let’s see the corroborated empirical data and the proofs that support it.
Let’s be correct in our words: “Scientists speculate…” [whatever the latest spin is].
The average person is at a disadvantage because they don’t subscribe to dozens or more of scientific journals, however responsible journalism requires that the person referenced be named and cited.
My observation is that there are mountains of scientific THEORIES available from even the most reputable scientists in the world on thousands of topics and finding agreement among them is akin to finding any random group of 20 people who agree on the existence of god. As an example, it took nearly 20 years for theoretical physicists to agree on the number of dimensions there are, and at some point, a new idea may come along adding yet another to the 11 they now accept.
We are not living in the universe of Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek where we have or can even imagine creating global weather control satellites, even though it would be a great thing to have them. Humankind still has not woken up to the fact that, we mere mortals, cannot tame the Mississippi river [or any river for that matter] as glaringly demonstrated repeatedly whenever there is a flood along its banks.
