One Response to “7/31 Great News – Harry Reid Says Paying Taxes Is Voluntary!”

Well, I certainly don’t have a clue what Harry Reid was talking about. It sounded like he was making some arcane legal distinction that has no relevance in the real world, and yes, he sounded like an idiot.
But the US constitution does, of course, does allow the Federal Government to levy taxes for the defense of the nation and for, importantly, the general welfare (like interstate highways for example).
But the interviewers point was this idea that the government is taking money from you and me and giving it to poor people who don’t want to work hard like you and me.
Attention on that point! The government is taxing all of us and is taxing the rich more than the less rich. And the less rich, fellow forum members, would be you and me. The rich pay far more than you for the roads, the schools, the utilities to your house, the defense of this nation and a myriad of other things City, State and Federal government provide. You, yes you, are on the receiving end much more than the giving end. Think about that.
What gives the government the right to tax millionaires and billionaires more than you to fix the potholes on the streets you drive and pay for your kids education (which is a totally socialist concept by the way)? That’s a legitimate question and legitimate point of debate. But when voice your support for the right wing position, at least realize that you, yes you, are the beneficiaries of the policies you object to.
