A conservative historian examines some of the pivotal, yet often ignored, moments that shaped our history
All students of American history know the big events that dramatically shaped our country. The Civil War, Pearl Harbor, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and 9/11 are just a few.
But there are other, less famous events that had an equally profound impact. Notable conservative historian Larry Schweikart takes an in- depth look at seven of these transformative moments and provides an analysis of how each of them spurred a trend that either confirmed or departed from the vision our Founding Fathers had for America. For instance, he shows how Martin Van Buren’s creation of a national political party made it possible for Obama to get elected almost two centuries later and how Dwight Eisenhower’s heart attack led to a war on red meat, during which the government took control over Americans’ diets.
In his easy-to-read yet informative style, Schweikart will not only educate but also surprise readers into reevaluating our history.

Interesting lead from the publisher of this book. Makes you want to read the book doesn’t it?
But my thought are that, for one, I didn’t realize the government took “took control over American’s diets.” I haven’t noticed one single restriction on my ability to buy whatever food I want. PLEASE someone tell me your experiences with the government controlling what you eat. That’s a scandal not covered by the main stream media!
And I’m curious about how Martin Van Buren did something that “made it possible” for Obama to be elected. Did he make it possible for non-whites to vote or even be elected to public office? If so, awesome.
After you buy and read this book, please give the low down on this forum.
Here’s a thought for you, readers of this website. What’s Heaven like to you? You get there. What is the experience, what is the reward for your life of good deeds? Are there rich people there who have more than you and privileges you don’t have? Are there poor, starving people in Heaven? Is there money and influence in Heaven, or are those motivations and the rewards for them gone? Isn’t everybody in Heaven on equal terms? That’s my vision. What’s yours?
Okay so you get to Heaven, whatever your idea of Heaven is, and look down on Earth. You’re free of earthly demands. What do you want for the world?
