2/2: Tea Party Opposes Tampa Transit Tax

Florida’s Tampa 912 Project attends debate over local transit tax:

Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe tried to sell coffee to the tea party crowd Tuesday.Sharpe was the pro side of a debate over a proposed transit tax initiative that goes before voters in November. His audience was the Tampa 912 Project, a local chapter of one of the national groups that have organized over the past year in protest to government bailouts and health care reform.

I am new to the board and I am looking to get involved locally in a Tea Party. Is there anyone in the Fort Lauderdale, Fl area? Contact info would be greatly appreciated. I have lived “deep behind enemy lines” all my life and I am tired of fighting all of these liberals by myself.

I feel that I need to clarify… When I say “Do The Right Thing” I mean stop doing things for us and to us. Leave us alone get out of my life Please!!!. I think this is where politicians get confused, When The People say we need jobs we don’t mean government make work jobs. I love how the founders of America could explain things in one sentence and takes today’s politician 2000 pages to say. Here I’ll let Thomas Jefferson explain what I’m trying to say…

“A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned – this is the sum of good government.” said Thomas Jefferson

Great quote, but it’s a point I think I should reply to. Thomas Jefferson, I’ve read, was one of the most intelligent humans recorded in history. To me, his wisdom and foresight are unmatched in history. He kept slaves although he spoke against slavery and, it appears, fathered a half-black child.

But he wasn’t God. The quote speaks of the government not regulating business, but he couldn’t conceive – no one could then – of a business that could pollute the water supply to the point of being dangerous or undrinkable (hence the EPA), he couldn’t conceive of an industry swallowing all other similar industries and forcing consumers to pay whatever they demanded for necessities (hence, anti-trust laws), he couldn’t conceive of an economic situation where people where paid next to nothing because they had no other possible source of income, and working conditions so horrible that people died and left their families without an income (hence, minimum wage and OSHA).

Thomas Jefferson is one of my heroes. But the world of the colonists does not compare to the world of today. He was not God laying down rules for all times. If he were to come alive today, he would help the world, but he would not say of this time that industries should be given free reign to do whatever they want in the name of profit. His philosophy was to support the people, not industry.

I know Thomas Jefferson is not a God. And he would tell you that himself. But he is one of the founding Fathers of our Republic. And a National Hero. He did somthing that very few politicians ever do. He literally stuck his neck out. If the Britsh had ever got there hands on him, He would have arrested and hanged for insurrection and treason against the King, without trial. As far as his personal-life, everyone of us have short commings. And everyone that believes in God and Jesus Christ knows this. But were Thomas Jefferson beats just about every politician since our founding Fathers. Is his love of freedom, and freedom dose not come from goverment but from our Creator.
