11/24: Letter on 9/11 Trials from NYPD Superior Officers Association Retired

Dear 912 Members:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the planned rally against Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to try the 9/11 terrorists in Federal Court here in New York City. It is greatly appreciated.
Furthermore, since NYPD/FDNY active and retired members have lost many friends and relatives on 9/11, the position of the NYPD Superior Officers Association Retired and the LI Association of Retired NYC Firefighters is as follows:
1. Since Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSH) already confessed to the murder and beheading of Wall Street
Journalist Daniel Pearl in Karachi, Pakistan (see below), and was arrested in Pakistan before being
taken to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, we see no reason why this confessed murderer should be transferred
to New York City to be tried in federal court for a heinous war crime he already confessed to.
2. By bringing KSH and the other al Qaeda war criminals to New York City for trial with all the protections
of the U.S. Constitution, this would not only set a perverse legal precedent, but will send a message to
al Qaeda terrorists around the world that if you kill American civilians or troops, the United States
government will provide you with the same legal protections as if you were a U.S. citizen.
3. Such a dangerous and foolish policy is not only contrary to civil society, but undermines the U.S.
Constitution and foundation of our free society.
Therefore, if you agree that KSH and his terrorists cohorts should be tried by a Military Tribunal and not
allowed to step a foot into the country they hate, please not only join us at the rally planned by the
“Young Americans for Freedom” in New York City, but call or write your local members of Congress
and U.S Senators to immediately introduce the necessary federal legislation to reverse Mr. Holder’s
unprecedented decision.

And we better act soon because they’ll have more of our rights than we do, at the rate this administration is destroying our Constitution.
obama is a muslim, so we know where he stands, Holder is an evil person who hates the United States, so together they bring these people to he US so they can shout, in a public court about how evil the United States is and how proud they are to have killed all of these Americans. Just another one of their ploys to destroy our country!
jerry0641, Obama is not a Muslim. He’s Christian. And besides, he’s not going to be a juror.
Honestly, I’m not too happy about the decision to try KSM in court. But I also believe in the US legal system. I’d like for us to show the world that our country is fair and just and convicts or acquits people based on the facts and the rule of law.
Third world governments decide who’s guilty, and shoot them in the middle of the night. Our country is, or should be, the moral leaders of this screwed up world. If nothing else, we should be that. If we stoop to the level of Pol Pot or other dictators, we lose the one thing that makes us the strongest nation in the world.
That sounds great jcs but watch the hearing with the attorney general again. As much as I would love to believe that they really want to show the world how fair and just we are, it is just not true. When the AG was asked if the terrorists would be able to go free if they were acquitted, he said “they will never be let free, there are many things we can do to continue to hold them”. How is that fair or just? We’ll give them a “fair” trial and if the jury feels they should not be held liable for their actions, they will still be held? I say, if thy are acquitted, set them free. All we need to know is when. I’m sure I can find at least 10,000 of my fellow New Yorkers who would take them on a cab ride to nowhere. This is a political trial designed to put the former administration and the CIA on trial.
Totally agree. Enemy combatants do NOT have Constitutional rights (as we do).
As a veteran, I am appalled that these prisoners would be provided so-called-citizenship; when they have NO RIGHTS WHATSOEVER…….the second they took up arms (see the definition of ‘enemy combatants’).
