11/18: Gov’t Said To Waste Over $98 Billion
Posted by Editor on November 18, 2009 · 4 Comments
More than $98 billion in taxpayer dollars spent by government agencies was wasted, much of it on questionable claims for tax credits and Medicare benefits, representing an increase of $26 billion from the previous year.
In all, about 5 percent of spending in federal programs in fiscal year 2009 was improper, according to new details of a government financial report that were released Tuesday. Saying the overall error rate was similar in 2008, officials attributed the $26 billion jump to some changes in how to define improper spending as well as an increase in overall spending due to the recession.

Nancy Genovese of New York who was falsly arrested and detained for leaving a shooting range deserves to have her voice heard, she is a friend of mine and a good true American, her trial was dropped and she is currently seeking a civil suit agaist the local police department, For false imprisonment and for the almost 75k she put into this Obamanation. She is a symbol of what our govt is coming to. she broke no laws, her guns were unloaded in the trunk and she was accused of being a criminal….insane if you ask me
There are several reasons the reported government waste isn’t remotely close to actual. Don’t even take into account the apparent work ethic of some (not nearly all) local, state, federal government employees but look at the unspoken policy of “use it or lose it.” I worked in a purchasing capacity for a short period of time (I was much younger) for the Federal government and we were instructed to spend everything by the end of the year to ensure an increase based on last year’s budget. Bottomline is our government needs to be spending within its means, realize the tax pot is not without bottom and stop feeding us this “we can’t get it done within our existing budgeted amounts.”
Agreed, I work for a major corporation and if the government would just behave more like a private business entity; we would have a surplus and our dollar would be strong again. Any rational person in the corporate world knows how to balance a budget and make a profit, because that is one of their root functions. Just because you may have “X” amount of dollars in your budget to spend, doesn’t mean you try as hard as possible to use all of it. When a business falls on hard times, they make decisions that will help lessen or cut losses altogether. They change business strategies to adapt to the market place. When they have a successful quarter, their stock goes up, they save money or they re-invest the earnings and expand their market making more money. They know that if they don’t, they won’t survive.
Does the Federal government do any of this? No. Why should they? They get their taxes regardless of whether or not they use it responsibly. After all, it’s not like they have to compete for our business. They’re not worried about us shopping elsewhere. We’re their customers for life! My God, where did these politicians learn financial responsibility?
