Wheww, what a long day!
I met so many people — so many “As a Moms.” It was so invigorating. I flew the Delta shuttle there which is the beginning of my journey which I will describe below:
The alarm went off at 6 this morning. I set up my 9-12 “As a Mom” gear the night before. I had chatted with some of the other “As a Moms” and we were planning on meeting across the way from the Capitol at 11 a.m.
On the flight down I sat next to an older gentleman and his wife. We got into a discussion and they were headed down to the rally at the Capitol. Their names are Dr. Steve Morris and his wife, Judy Morris. They are retired and they just came off a one-month campaign in N.J. for Chris Christie. Although they live in Roslyn, N.Y., they are very passionate about the direction this country is going in and they dedicate a great deal of their time to gathering information, vetting it for accuracy and talking to people. Steve is a very unassuming low-key person, but he speaks in facts and the wealth of his information is amazing. His wife Judy is very active as well and extremely passionate about freedom and liberty. They were very lovely people and they were meeting their CSR group down at the Capitol.
I met the woman Laurie who started the “As a Mom” organization when I arrived at 10:45 across from the Capitol. There were about six moms there from all over — some as far as Colorado! It was just amazing. I met moms from Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Missouri and California! They are amazing women and traveled in for this and some were going home this evening and some were leaving tomorrow. But everyone had their “As a Mom” tee shirts on (I had my 9-12 Mom tee shirt on because I could not figure out how to use the iron-on patch that “As a Mom” had the link to on their site.)
We were expecting a number of moms coming on buses. We made our way over to the Capitol about 11:15 where we met more “As a Mom” members. It was so great — everyone was hugging and everyone had their tee shirts and some women made up handouts with bullet points on it to be distributed to their representatives.
When I got to the Hill, people were signing G_d Bless America and then the Star Spangled Banner — tons of patriotic songs. It was a very, very well-behaved crowd — no crazy stuff going on at all. Some of the signs were so creative. The one thing that struck me was that I didn’t see a lot of the communist Marxist signs. Mostly I saw people with copies of the Declaration of Independence, the Principles that Glenn has on the show and just regular NOBAMA HC signs. I was really glad that the signs for the most part were not over the top and crazy.
I met a mom who lost her son in Iraq last year and has two other sons currently serving. I think we all drew strength from one another and it was particularly touching to me since that is where my son is setting his sites by going hopefully into WP or USMMA. I definitely felt so much better after speaking to these moms and drawing strength from them.
The crowd went wild when Michele Bachmann and all the Republicans came out to speak. They were screaming “kill the bill” and tauntingly yelling “Nancy, Nancy, Nancy” in a real sing-song kind of voice.
So many people spoke. Jon Voight, the actor, brought two people with him (small business owners) and they said a few words. Rep. Pence from Indiana spoke and he had the funniest line, he said, “I read the bill and I have the diagnosis: It is legislative malpractice.” I thought that was great and the crowd went wild! Todd Akin from Missouri spoke and we all said the Pledge of Allegiance. It was just so patriotic and so much great energy it really made you feel like, hey I am not alone in my thinking.
I took pictures of some of the more creative signs. One that says “Remember 9/12: We’re BACK!”; “11-3-09- Good Start, 11-2-10-GOODBYE!” I thought that was really a clever sign. Then there was one that said “OBAMA CARE IS CASH FOR COFFINS.” That was funny also.
Mark Levin spoke and the crowd really went wild over him. He was just amazing. People had his book and were waiving it and he was signing as many as he could. People from Freedomworks spoke as well. I took down most of the names of all the speakers, but there were over 30 speakers! It was from noon to about 2:30 or so.
The best part was at the end when the press conference/rally was over. Michele Bachmann got back on the podium and said now all of you go to your representatives, go find them and someone had a horn and you know the tune that they play in the Civil War movies or the older war movies when they are going to charge? Well, someone played that “charge” on their instrument and the crowd was just charged!

I apologize for my 2500 estimate from my vantage point across the street from the Capitol. The Capitol police officer working our sector today said their estimation was 3000. I would have asked the Washington DC police as GADIANTONHUNTER suggested, but they have no jurisdiction. It’s the Capitol Police and the Parks Service and the Parks Service suspended crowd estimations in the mid 90’s. Those of us who, you know, live here are aware of such things. So it was 3000 according to authorities and 40,000-60,000 for the 9/12 march by those same authorities. As far as my public school education, it was Gonzaga High School and George Washington for me. Private and Private.
Just thought I’d set the record straight, there were actually not 2500, but 3000 marchers on Capitol Hill Thursday. And it looked like they had a grand old time misquoting the Constitution, lying about legislation they admitted they had not read and carrying racist signs with jewish corpses and automatic weapons pointing at the President. Somehow Mrs. Milk and Cookies didn’t mention those things in her article above.
That was not a slap to those who were honestly laid off during this tough economy, but rather toward those who would like to keep us there by insisting that they have been wronged by capitalism. Capitalism can’t do wrong or right. It can only provide opportunity for the individual to control his or her own destiny.
Yeah, because conservatives would never slap the unemployed during a tough economy, except when they refused for 6 weeks to vote to extend unemployment benefits.
I don’t care how many people were there; that means nothing. I wanted to be there, but I work. Most of us who would have liked to have been there have jobs, unlike the liberals who are looking for handouts.
What is going on with the people in this world today?? All of these comments are about the same occurrence, yet the descriptions are as different as night and day!! There are definetily troubled times ahead for our once great country as the populous seems to be divided as never before-not only divided by issues, but divided by the very definition of words like ‘honor’ and ‘integrity’. People log on to this site the same as they do our local blogs, and all of a sudden they have a forum that will post wildly outrageous claims. It is as if no one knows what the TRUTH is any more.
“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness” II Thessalonians Ch2, vs 11-12
This may not be the appropriate place to ask this, but I could not find anywhere else more appropriate, and I am looking for genuine input. I have received two unsolicited mailings- one from an organization called ” The Council of Seniors” which claims affiliation with Ron Paul and says it is against social security $ going to illegal aliens, and another from “Benefit Security Coalition” which claims to be petitioning for COLA payment to seniors receiving social security benefits. I have never heard of either organization, but I may favor their cause-it’s just that I am reluctant to offer financial support as well as attach my name and reputation to an organization I don’t know. One of my concerns is finding out later that my signature is being used for a cause I don’t want anything to do with. I would appreciate any input on this matter. Thank you.
There were 2500 people there tops. I work at the botanical garden and some of us watched about 90 minutes of this “rally”. I’ve seen alot of marches in the last 20 years and this one hardly qualifies. It was funny when Boehner read from his “Constitution” by quoting the Declaration. But the rest wasn’t funny. A couple thousand retired white people and laid-off NRA guys waving horribly offensive signs disparaging blacks and jews. I think your credibility ends when you use pictures of somebodies dead jewish ancestors and carrying signs punctuated with automatic weapons. Ms. Dolan account published above is sweet, really, but she is naive to the bigotry and Constitutional ignorance that surrounded both of us.
What kinda socialist remark is that?
They was at LEAST 4,000,000 million people ther I saw it on Fox News. I forget. Michele Balkin, she’s the gal. I saw the photos and they are people all over the place as far as you can see.
Now what is the big deal about Boehner reading from the Declaration? Don’t you LIKE the Declaration? You’re not a soshi are ya? Why sure he’s an elected representative, and sure he’s House Minority Leader, and sure he’s sposed to be a Constitutional expert, but so what? Can’t a man be allowed to make him a mistake now and then?
God bless our troops that fought to save the Jews from fasicst socialists like Pelosi, that Frenchie wants to turn us into a Marxist state.
And one last thing, They need to chang the name of the NRA to the USAMA, US American Made Arms becuause we shoot all kind of things at traitors, including sochis.
Thank you. By FOX math, we had just under 5 million visitors to the botanical garden Thursday. Air and Space had 56 MILLION. And the Capitals drew 40 million their last home game!
No, you were watching CNN reporting on Nancy Pelosi’s book signing tour. Or maybe it was a protest against the former president at his ranch in Texas . . . there were at least a million people at these places, that is why CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and ABC reports them and ignores the other true numbers at the tea party activities. But then again, there were about 1,000 news reporters covering three protestors at the ranch if I remember correctly. You lefties are so two faced and idiotic. It seems you still can’t handle the idea of 1.7 million people crushing Washington DC, especially if they are against Mr. Obama, socialism and the religion of statism. Go ahead, be the hater, make fun of the tsunami that is headed your way. You can not stop it, but maybe your hatred and sarcasm can make you feel better. Good luck with that.
Eric in Arlinton, you’re awesome. Thanks for your reporting.
Just trying to be Fair and Balanced.
2500 . . . you gotta be kidding me . . . maybe it was the public education you received that has warped your mind regarding math and the ebb and flow of crowds. But being that you have seen many protests and marches I am sure you know better than what was actually counted by the Washington DC police. You rock! Damn, I wish everyone was as alert as you and knew so much. Thank goodness for folks like you who straighten out us rednecks carrying our guns. Even if there were 2500 tops . . . how many were there on 9/12? Nothing special about 1.7 million coming to Washington on a few days notice. Or maybe it was just 1 million . . . hmmm . . . 1 million or 1.7 million . . . or maybe just 500,000 . . . these numbers mean nothing . . . just like the elections last week. But the million man march a decade ago that really brought in a million folks . . . or was it 50,000 . . . damn its hard to count these days . . . maybe that is because you folks in Washington are more use to counting things in the billions and trillions.
