9/29: Kirk Calls on U.S. Census to Sever Ties to SEIU
On the heals of a congressional vote to de-fund ACORN, U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) is calling on the U.S. Census to sever all ties to Illinois’ largest union, the Service Employees International Union, because that union, Kirk says, is too close to ACORN.
Kirk also urged the firing of the National Intelligence Officer for the Middle East, who he blames for under-estimating Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

9/29: Senate Committee Rejects Public Option for Health Overhaul
The Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday rejected a proposal to include a new government-run insurance plan in its health-care legislation, but debate over a proposed public plan isn’t expected to end at the committee.
By a 15-8 vote, the committee rejected an amendment sponsored by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D., W.Va.), that would create a public health-insurance option. Under Mr. Rockefeller’s amendment, a government-run plan would inherit Medicare’s network of doctors and hospitals and pay them based on Medicare payment rates for its first two years.

9/29: ‘Political payback’
Boston Herald Editorial Staff: The Obama administration, in its continuing efforts to curry favor with its supporters in organized labor, is poised to resurrect a policy on federal construction projects that will add billions of dollars to their cost.
For eight years of the Bush administration there was a prohibition on Project Labor Agreements on federal construction projects. Such agreements require either the hiring of union workers or require that those working on such projects pay union dues.

9/29: Obama Will Disappoint Europeans as Post-American World Emerges
Mark Steyn: Half a decade or so back, I wrote:
“It’s a good basic axiom that if you take a quart of ice cream and a quart of dog feces and mix ‘em together the result will taste more like the latter than the former. That’s the problem with the U.N.”
Absolutely right, if I do say so myself. When you make the free nations and the thug states members of the same club, the danger isn’t that they’ll meet each other half-way but that the free world winds up going three-quarters, seven-eighths of the way.

9/29: ACORN’s Man in the White House
Newly discovered evidence shows the radical advocacy group ACORN has a man in the Obama White House.
This power behind the throne is longtime ACORN operative Patrick Gaspard. He holds the title of White House political affairs director, the same title Karl Rove held in President Bush’s White House.

9/29: Another White House Name Surfaces in the ACORN Rolodex
Erick Erickson: Last week we showed how Barack Obama is connected to ACORN by his White House Political Director, Patrick Gaspard.
The Missouri blog 24thstate.com has built on those ties and has a look at Sara Howard, Russ Carnahan’s spokesgal. Howard and Gaspard both worked for Americans Coming Together (”ACT”) in 2004. In that year, ACT sent out a sensational, hate filled political flier showing white men spraying black people with fire hoses in the sixties. The ACT flier claimed Republicans were trying to intimidate blacks into not voting.
Turns out the printer of the flier, along with Gaspard and Howard, is in the rolodex.

9/29: Bidding for the Olympics, Chicago-style
Examiner Editorial: Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan and the man tasked with finding a winning strategy for the war there, has talked with President Obama exactly once in more than two months. Federal officials have made one arrest in what they describe as the most dangerous terrorist plot in the U.S. since 9/11, and they have only started unraveling the conspiracy. Years before previously expected, Social Security is about to run out of money to cover the monthly checks that millions of senior and disabled Americans depend on to make ends meet.
Unemployment is nearing 10 percent nationwide and has reached its highest mark since World War II among younger Americans, 52 percent. As many as 80,000 people in California’s Central Valley are out of work in part because of federal environmental policies that make fish more important than people. These are only a few of the most important crises facing the nation today. And where is our president? He is in Copenhagen, Denmark, to deliver a sales pitch for Chicago to host the 2016 Olympics.

9/29: Why Medical Malpractice Is Off Limits
Philip K. Howard: Eliminating defensive medicine could save upwards of $200 billion in health-care costs annually, according to estimates by the American Medical Association and others. The cure is a reliable medical malpractice system that patients, doctors and the general public can trust.
But this is the one reform Washington will not seriously consider. That’s because the trial lawyers, among the largest contributors to the Democratic Party, thrive on the unreliable justice system we have now.
