This bill scares the crap out of me…. If it passes in the Senate, I may have to consider moving. I live in Memphis, TN, it is a beautiful city, well parts of it are beautiful. Memphis is a predominately black city, about 64% black, 5% hispanic, and the rest is white. The problem in Memphis is poverty, crime., and gangs. I know some of you might have heard about the crime but it's another thing to live with it. I konw the majority of Memphis voted for Obama but I dont think they realized voting for him would be voting for gas to go up to $5-$6 a gallon, food prices to rise and the utilities to rise. I would be willing to bet my entire savings that if gas goes up and prices go up, there will be riots in Memphis and it will get crazy. When you've got people that are already violent and at risk they will get desperate. I dont want to be in this city to see it happen.

I think it should be called “CAP AND CRAP ON AMERICA BILL"

CONGRESS BENDS AMERICA OVER AGAIN BILL

I am interested in cap-and-trade programs because they would let the market, not the government, dictate how to lower harmful emissions. I believe that we have the technology and ability to meet the challenge of climate change in a way that will provide new economic opportunities and make us more competitive internationally while protecting consumers from high energy prices and breaking our dependence on oil.

Global warming threatens Florida's fragile ecosystem and $56 billion tourism industry. Rising sea levels will encroach on Florida's pristine beaches and harm coastal wetlands and the Everglades. Increased carbon dioxide and water temperatures will damage sensitive coral reefs and endanger
I will continue to work in the Senate to fight the effects of global warming. I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts with me, and I respect your views.
      Sincerely,
      Senator Bill Nelson

I asked him to vote NO and wanted a response from him. I got a lousy form letter. 6 times.

I have run my own business or 15 years …. and have absolutely no expirience what so ever …

    …seriously.

I hjave some very grinchy plans of deconstruction that i have been thnking about. such as HOW do we mass execute these guys … "good" and bad??? real fast???

My Rep (David Scott) voted for the "Energy Bill" and I will be doing every thing I can to STOP his re-election!

  5. I am so disgusted, they are controlling our homes now. Are you kidding me. We have to be energy efficient according to CA codes to sell your home, in this bill. CA is dead, bankrupt and government wants to make jobs for people through government. Ok so the jobs are to go to homes and tell the people what they can and cannot do. So really it is an extension of government in your home. Here comes the Feds.

We have to get our freedom back. Can you imagine a group or groups of Feds little army enforcing rules and regulations coming to your home. That is the future. Jobs are to keep control on the people that is the stimulus and new jobs from the Gorvernment. Our President.

How can Congress expect us to take them seriously when they are voting for and passing bills they do not even read!? I hope more and more Americans are waking up to where the politicians in Washington, D.C. are taking us—down the road to the poorhouse and socialism.

For those of you who would like a list of Blue Dog Democrats in the Senate to call and fax, here's a nice detailed one on my blog. Please call/fax the Blue Dog Democrats about Cap and Trade and Health Care Reform (just say NO).
    http://www.big-government-in-your-wallet.com/repu...

In the meantime, I'm also going to call and thank John Boehner for calling it like he sees it. Go Boehner!

Some Blue Dog Democrats have not made up their mind on these issues…they need to hear from us patriots!

  7. topshot says:

Ole BO hit another home run in the Congress, amazing that it took some Republicans to switch sides for it to pass. I'm sure that if they didn't change sides some Dem's that voted no would have fallen in line and voted yes just to keep the wicked witch of the west off their backs. Still they turned their back on their own party and sided with the enemy on this one. I'm from Illinois and although Mark Kirk isn't my congressman I'll be E-Mailing him to tell him thaat whoever runs against him in the primary will receive a fund raising check from me to help defeat him. I want him to know that there is a penalty for his traitorous act. I hope that everybody does the same in their state, they must pay a price for selling us out. We can only hope that the Senate will show some form of intelligence and vote this atrocity down. Our country is on a very slippery slope and BO is at the top dumping more grease down hill. Will his supporters ever wake up or are they just that stupid? One can only wonder, I think our only hope is Divine intervention and I don't give a crap if that's not PC or not. I say every day GOD HELP US!!!!!

  8. meg425 says:

One other sad note, the person (in her Washington office) defending my congresswoman for not reading the C&T bill and also voting "yes" said,"You realize the bill still has to go through the Senate, it isn't a done deal yet." I asked how that had anything to do with my congresswoman's vote – her vote counts and I suggested this comment only confirmed my earlier accusation of my congresswoman being Nancy Pelosi's lap dog. Really looking forward to this woman's next election campaign – she is going to be in for one hell of a surprise-we, the disillusioned constituents are no longer complacent…

  11. NewtonW says:

It should be called cap and TAX. it is a ponzi scheme that makes Madoff look like a two bit operator. It will rest most heavily on those with the least income, those that earn little more, or less than, it costs to live will pay the burden passed to them in the inflationary cost of everything we all use and consume that is produced with energy, oil and delivered to the store by diesel trucks driven home in gas cars that are heated and cooled by coal generated electric . While the rich spend far less (as a %) for these things their rate of impact will be far less

  17. SisterTex says:

I'd like to see those who voted for the Cap & Trade permanently annotated on news coverage, right next to their (R) or (D) designation. Show those weasels (and the weasel wanna-be's in the Senate) that we will not forget this fundamental undermining of our economy and way of life.

Maybe Glenn could feature a "Cap & Tax Weasel" of the Day on his shows? Keep those idiots in the spotlight.

I'm going to call John Boehner's office now & thank him for calling this bill what it is. I'd like to see a "Top 10 reasons why Cap & Trade is a Piece of S–t" permanently listed on many sites. The Sheeple can pay attention to Top 10 jokes, maybe they can wrap their minds around this kind of Top 10? It's going to be important that they understand this come election time.

  18. Just saw on Fox and Friends Browner from White House speak on this. She goes on and on about how we need to get in the game of global this and that. Big news, we are the wealthest country in the world with regard to our people and freedoms they have to make income. Global energy bills are expensive and no other country, their people can afford what they are wanting. So why do they keep refering to Global? The Emperer has no clothes.

Oh by the way, they asked Browner if she read the bill, she said large parts of it. They said, "so you didn't read it" she said, "come on thats not fair!" Oh but its fair to lie to us, tell us we need it when we don't. Raise our bills and call it for the good of global interest. The Emperer has no clothes.

  19. meg425 says:

The fact that our congressmen vote yes to bills they haven't read and the multi-billion dollar impact these bills have will be exposed, the fact that they know that global warming is not a decided science so the only reasons they voted for Cap and Trade were to make special interest companies rich and give the government more power and worst of all they will be advertised as "Nancy Pelosi's lap dog- she says jump, they say how high".
I made it very clear that we the voters are awake and paying attention like never before- they will have a fight on their hands!
We, the Disillusined Constituents are going to make sure these excuses for statesmen will NOT BE ELECTED AGAIN!

    • SheriS says:

Write your Congressman and tell him there is a list of those people in Congress who refuse to listen to their constituents and they will be targeted in the next election. I think the 912ers are willing to do this and make these people WAKE UP AS THEY REPRESENT THE PEOPLE , NOT THEIR PARTY OR PRESIDENT! STAND UP AND BE HEARD!

      • donnakear says:

I wrote MY senator and got a blasted form letter 6 times that says he is in favor of Cap and Trade. UGH That would be Senator BILL NELSON.(D-FL) He needs to GO!

  20. meg425 says:

Before the vote I called all the offices of the Congresswoman from my district and the Congressman from my brother's district requesting they vote "no" to Cap and Trade for the following reasons: they have not read the bill and they need to vote "no" on bills they have not read as in "stop the insanity" and that the bill would hurt this economy irreparably and give the government power over each aspect of a citizen's life.
After they voted "yes" to the bill, I called their Washington offices to let them know that we the Disillusioned Constituents will be doing everything in our power to make sure they are not elected again.

  21. gragar says:

I contacted every one of the Republicans who voted for this bill and told them they signed their own pink slip by agreeing with this tax increase. I told them I will do everything to make sure they are not elected in 2010. Then the two guys who didn't vote – told them they were cowards. We've got to get these people out of Washington. They are ruining our country. Obama hates the US and all the other Demoncrats want is power. It's scary. There are going to be allot of tea parties this weekend (ours in Thurs) – I'm expecting a huge turnout.

According to EGObama California is the model to look to for how the Cap and Trade will work???? 11.5% unemployment and California has 20 days before they have NO money in the coffers. NOW THAT IS A JEDI MIND TRICK! Check out the EGObama Jedi Mind Trick… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3_jh2dO78U

    • Dave48763 says:

Tm,,,Yep,,,he picked losers to be part of his administration, and a state like Calif to be the role model of GREEN,,,yep including ACORN,,,,,,and now the plants 2 of them in Mo,,,,one already shut down perm,,the second was to make the last 74 trucks than the plants move to Canada,,,nope not UAW,,,they are out of a Job,,,,so much for that BILLIONS of Bailout,,,his mind trick needs no Utube,,,we have the boobtube himself and his teleprompter,,,if that does not work,,,he picks the best funeral to go,in this case to Jacksons as it will have the best ,most media coverage,,,but than look at the cost of Airforce one,$388,000 for 6 hours,,,one way, this does not include his hangers on,,,,yep ,,,prure GREEN and protecting the enviorment,,,:)

  24. TMGallagher says:

Do you believe that EGObama ACTUALLY had the nerve to come on TV again, touting the Cap and Trade Bill and…GET THIS… POINTED TO CALIFORNIA AS A MODEL??????? Are you kidding me? I live in California. WE ARE BANKRUPT! We have 20 days before our government here implodes! He had the nerve to say it would create jobs like in California….DOES HE HAVE ANY IDEA THAT OUR UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN CALIFORNIA IS 11.5% and moving UP??????? Seriously, is anyone buying his BS?

    • CarolEWash says:

Yes I caught that. I guess he does live in a bubble, after all. He doesn't even have a clue. I thought he watched Fox News. At least he slams it enough. Does he really think that we are that uninformed to believe this crap? I e-mail Trace to ask them if Obama is jokeing. California is a big misstake as an example to sell anything green at this point. Opps.

    • Byboozian says:

It's amazing what he thinks Ameican's will believe and it's even more discouraging when many American's really do believe his BS. I seriously hope California gets it together quick. The Federal Government is trying to mimic our failed experiments for the whole country and people seem to think it's a good idea, an ounce of common sense would go a long way here.

Environmental Policy – CA has had the most stringent regulations regarding this for some time and what good has it done? Now they want to put the whole country on a CA system x 100. Horrible Idea

      cont. below

      • Byboozian says:

Healthcare – CA has one of the most progressive healthcare policies in the States, our hospitals are going broke because they can't get paid from the unisured people who abuse the system. Fed wants to put everyone on a "free" healthcare system. Bad Idea.

Immigration – If California isn't a perfect example of the need for enforcing our immigration policy harder I don't know what is. Granting citizenship to illegals isn't the answer.

Water / Natural Resource Use – The Central Valley has the capacity to feed the entire United States plus some if they could only have access to California's water to irrigate their crops. Now the Fed wants to control all water in the united states, from private wells to farm ponds to irrigation canales.

All of these are on the table at the same time and every single one of them alone has the capacity to cripple this state and the country as a whole.

    • gragar says:

Obamaconman could be dumber that we all thought. He is irrational. He scares me.

    • Travelover says:

For years the powers that be out there have NO clue how to handle money. Far from being "enlightened" – they are like a bunch of immature drug addled hippies who NEVER grew up and have their heads in the clouds (or up their butts). They have not only bankrupted their state, but they are putting the entire country at risk with their policies. They are so CONTRARY and screwed up they won't even allow solar power in the Mohave Desert (it's a FREAKIN desert for Pete's sake!) – and isn't THAT considered "green power"? I resent the fact that those of us in the "heartland" and "rural" areas – who are constantly MOCKED for our beliefs by the so-called "intelligenzia" – beliefs which include running our states (and homes) RESPONSIBLY – are being burdened with "bailing" out California and others who didn't. It's THEFT plain and simple! And I blame California and other cities and states who indulge in "sanctuary" for lawbreaking illegals for ANYt crimes against the rest of us by illegals who should never have been allowed in in the first place.

  25. farmnurse says:

I heard on the news that Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma was saying that the EPA buried a report that showed the global warming scare is not to be taken seriously. That temps are actually starting to get cooler instead of warmer. Dont know if it will help but he did give speech about to the Senate floor. Here is page about report. http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction...

  26. I love it when Boehner says stuff like that. I get all giddy whenever I hear an elected official actually represent us and call it like it is! Just want to give them hugs and high 5's.

Too bad it doesn't happen often.

I'm done with this garbage.. take one look at this, and the whole situation smells. They pass this bill on the day after Micheal Jackson dies… seriously! Everyone better wake up to what is happening here, because the rug is being pulled out from under us while we wallow in our pop lifestyles. It is a shame that MJ died so young and had such a tragic life. However, there are other things happening in the world which will directly affect us on a much bigger scale! All day on Friday, I never heard a peep about this cap and trade bill. Does anyone seriously think that is a coincidence? This is how our government is slamming these things down our throats!! Wake up, everyone, we need to fight this bill HARD!!

  29. I find it troubling that Al Gore who founded Generation Management Investments will profit, that our President who served on the board of The Joyce Foundation which funded the Chicago Climate Exchange, along with his circle of friends, will also profit, that GE will benefit and the American taxpayer will be grossly and unfairly taxed for nothing more than a scheme. We can only hope that it does not pass the next legislative process. Our President is reckless.

  30. Fearful1 says:

I just called Mark Kirks office in Northbrook, IL (847)940-0202 because I was calling since they voted on this SCAM TAX. His mailbox was full until today. I told them he is a traitor to the American People and that I will do all I can to keep him from getting re elected!! Also know that Pelosi let some of the dems vote no because they are coming up for relection and they are going to be tight races. They were actually playing commercials in some of the districts dem and rep of congresspeople who were leaning toward voting no. You can you tube the commercials and see that they were telling people that there congressperson was thinking of voting against the enviroment. What a CROCK!! These people go way beyond the word SPIN. They actually make you think that it will be a good thing to have cap and tax! Unbelievable!!

  31. SecretPolice says:

If it looks, smells & taste like S**T, then good thing we no step in it. lol

WHY DOES OBAMA TAKE SUCH A "SOFT-LINE" STANCE TOWARDS OUR OBVIOUS ENEMIES? Could he be using the Sun Tzu idea that All war is based on deception? Could Obama be baiting our enemies by having them believe that Obama would not take any strong action against them??? SO LET'S SAY THAT OABAM IS BAITNG OUR WORLD ENEMIES. After n. korea attacks the across the dmz, chavez invades another south American country, or Obama forces Israel to take action on its own to defend itself and starts a war In the middle east, HOW WILL OBAMA RESPOND??? Will Obama do a complete 180 degree turn and take a hard-line stance toward our enemies??? Of course this may be welcome at first by many Americans. Obama may start talking like an American patriot and sending our military to defend freedom throughout the world. Of course fighting in Afghanistan, Iraq and now a third conflict will strain the US economy to the brink. Perhaps THEN OBAMA WILL TAKE ALL THE NECESSARY STEPS TO SECURE VICTORY. He will use the idea of defending freedom throughout the world against us and use it to take away our own freedom here in the the US by taking control of anything and everything he deems necessary; control of all industry, banking, rationing of food and gasoline, etc, etc. ……"If tyranny and oppression come to this land it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."
    – James Madison.

  33. Fearful1 says:

What really makes me mad is that they know its all a scam, but look at all the money they and there friends stand to make. Al Gore will become a Billionaire!! And they only let him speak before congress, wow ! now he will be fair. This all has to do with money, controlling every aspect of our lives and population control!!!

  34. MadinMaurice says:

It is a pile of steaming crap. I hope all those that voted for it are all kicked to the curb. I pray that the senate will kill this bill. I bet Gore and Pelosi are dancing with joy, they can dance back to their pits of slime! This bill will hit our business hard. We get alot of work through the oil and gas industry. WHAT A BUNCH OF GREEDY TOADS!!!

  40. TMGallagher says:

Well, it looks like the $HIT is finally going to hit the fan at the EPA. The report that they suppressed disproving the effects of global warming is coming to light. The scandal is finally coming to light. And NOW, they are investigating WHO ordered the report suppressed.

These STUPID manmade global warming (later changed to climate change – because it was actually getting cooler) proponents! They should be rounded up and shot! NOW, lets see the Senate pass the Cap and Trade! If they do, they should all prepare for a revolution!

    • CarolEWash says:

There is so much corruption in this government, do you think that any cover up will be revealed? Or anyone will be held accountable? We just need to elect virgin representatives so we can have trust in our government again. They can learn their job as they go. At least they would read the bills before voting on them. That would be a plus.

Very interesting article for all. I was listening to Larry Kudlow on the radio Saturday and he mentioned this. He said to go to investors.com and find the article called Carbongate. According to the article there was an EPA study that was suppressed. The study was written by a man who has worked for the EPA for 38 years. He has since been removed from all climate related work…hmmmm???? Seems a little weird. Anyway, he says he is convinced that actual climate observations do not match climate change theories and that only the politics, not the science, has been settled.

If the news will not report on the truth about the energy tax then we need to tak action and do it ourselves. March on Washington before this thing goes to the Senate floor. They cannot ignore us if we are in their face. The news outlets will have to report. Obviously I am not advocating any violence but as long as we still have free speech then we need to exercise it. TEA Parties all over the country and especially in DC. They need to listen!!! We need a voice again!!! The vast majority of elected officails are only looking after their own interests. We need to remind them that they were hired by us, to represent us. THEY WORK FOR US!!!!!

  46. Vettenut says:

Just another case of the Dumbocrats jamming legislation through so fast that no one can even read the bills. Call your representative and senators and tell them if they voted or will vote for this travesty, that you will actively oppose their reelection. We need to remove the scum from the pond.

  47. Holly Powell says:

This bill has probably cost my husband his job! He is an Oil & Gas Consultant with a CO2 project pending in Arizona. Now this has probably shut that program down and quite posibley the entire oil patch. We are talking maybe 500,000 jobs, between the rig workers, builders, supply companies on both ends of the exploration, truck drivers, etc.

Thanks Mr. Obama, we really appreciate your loyalty to the American people and to the Nation! I have NEVER seen so many people in Washington who are so ANTI-AMERICAN!! EVERYTHING they have done has been to tear down or destroy EVERYTHING this country was built on and stood for.

As a descendant of a family that came to America in 1681…I am absolutley LIVID about what is going on now. We have called, written faxed and everythng else possible to get these fools who "represent(?)" us to do the right thing and make the decisions we want them to make…hahaha!!!!

I am on SS Disability and I am not going to get a cost of living increase for at least 2 years….Congress HAD BETTER NOT get a pay raise either!!!!!!!

  48. SeekTheTruth says:

With regards to Cap and Trade, CALL YOUR SENATORS!!!! Call EVERY day!!! Jam the phone lines! Call your LOCAL offices and JAM their phone lines! Make your voice heard! This fecal legislation passed the House, but with a lot of noise from us, we can stop it in the Senate!!

  49. SeekTheTruth says:

I called. I wrote. I had my friends call and write and these "representatives" still ignored us! Who do they think they are? While I will do everything in my power to campaign AGAINST the representatives that seem intent on destroying this country, we CANNOT wait for the next election! I love the United States of America; however, I hate the policies that Congress and this poor excuse of a President are force feeding us. What can we do? Keep calling. Keep writing. Spread the word! The TEA parties scheduled for Independence Day are THE opportunity to SHOUT: "NO MORE!!!" We can accomplish much through non-violent means, and as the Judge has suggested, we need to take these people to COURT!!!

I was a registered Conservative back when NY elected Buckley as Senator. Changed to Republican for Goldwater and just stayed there. May go back to Conservative again. I have been saying for years that Algore and the Global Warming crowd were just creating hysteria so they could stampede the people into giving the DemocRATS power and money to make this a one-party state. They are now proving to everyone that that is their intention. We need to be organized though, not just Independents running off in all directions.

  51. JGriff31 says:

Boehner earned a lot of respect on Friday. I didn't really know much about him, but I am certainly a fan now. Maybe he will be the new Speaker of the House after 2010.

…I watched him on C-Span and he really was good. I was sitting in my living room cheering (I know, it sounds like I'm a dork – lol). I was not much of a fan until Friday. I didn't think he had it in him…I was wrong.

    MOTION TO RECONSIDER

A motion to reconsider is a parliamentary practice that gives the House (or Senate) one opportunity to review its action on a motion, amendment, or measure.

Motions to reconsider are routinely laid on the table — or killed. If a motion to reconsider is adopted, it requires a vote be held again on whatever the House has voted to reconsider. Only Members who voted on the winning side may move to reconsider a vote. Members have been known to change their votes at the last minute in order to be eligible to offer the motion.

If the original vote on a question is close, enough members might be persuaded to change their position, or absent members could come to the floor, vote to reconsider, then reverse the outcome of the original vote.

Typically, however, after announcing the result of a vote, the Speaker states that, “without objection, a motion to reconsider is laid on the table.” This uses up the one opportunity to reconsider, and makes the result of the vote final.

    • MegansDad says:

      LAY ON THE TABLE

A motion to lay on the table a bill, resolution, amendment, point of order, appeal or another motion disposes of the question immediately and finally and adversely — it kills it without a direct vote on the substance of the question. A motion to table is not debatable and is adopted by unanimous consent — without objection — or by majority vote. It is a “highly privileged motion” — that is, in the order in which motions are given priority in the House, only a motion to adjourn has higher precedence than a motion to table a measure.

  53. The DHS is probably monitoring this sight, watching out for all of us "right-wing extremists". I say, GOOD!!!
I'm a constitutionalist Christian, I am a veteran of OIF, and I am now very angry! This bill is rotten cow excrement with writhing maggots to the core. They have some provision to add anything they want to it after it passes. If this thing is passed by the Senate, I'm going to instantly start stockpiling more ammo, gun parts, reloading supplies, and Christian stuff; Who knows what they are going to add on to this excrement at the last minute. Especially, since, only the patriotic few read the bills anymore. God bless those patriots, and the patriots of the 912 project!

Lord God, we still believe in You! We love You and Your son, Jesus Christ. We haven't forgotten the promise that we have in You, Jesus. We worship You Lord! We worship You Jesus! Please anoint a leader to retake America for You, who will have zeal for You like Jehu, and be strong and wise like Moses, and restore the Republic, under You. Amen.

This energy debate is horrible. We are in a deep recession and the last thing this country needs is a tax for energy use. The insanity in our capitol continues to grow.

Political Correctness has made the majority silent. We have awakened to that fact, and now in numbers, we will NOT be silenced!!

  57. detestObama says:

I concur with that assessment! If this bill is shoved though the Senate, the citizens will be very unhappy with this massive Cap-and-Trade environmental bill. We will pay thousands for a dumn bill that will cause the USA to lose millions of jobs over the next few years. The Obamacrats are feeding a lot of BS to the public. Just figure it out for yourself, the companies that still make goods in America will have to move to China, or some other country where Environmental laws are nonexistant. Right there are millions of jobs lost, with millions more lost long term!
China dosn't care about the environment, just like Mexico, and many other countries, so we are the only country that will take it in the shorts
As far as us not having to buy oil from countries that don't like us, that may be true, because no one in our beloved country will be able to afford the black stuff, after Obama gets done!

  58. pandabeads says:

Ok. It is unconstitutional for our government to ask personal questions in the census. And then give it to a crooked operation like ACORN. Don't let the census bully you. If you give this personal information that is outrageous it will be put into a database and will be used against you. Hitler did this and rounded up Jews, FDR rounded up the Japanese Americans with this information. I urge you all to not answer the questions if you are a caucasion christian. Something smells rotten. I had this black guy on youtube email me and threaten me telling me that soon white people will be enslaved and murdered. I don't know what the hell is going on. I don't know if this guy was a nut or what? But I am scared. So please don't give personal information. The feds don't need it and it is unconstitutional.

SugarBeets, You can turn manure into energy. Kansas Gov. Parkinson just allowed regulations for an energy plant in SW Kansas to build a plant that is basically waste free. All waste, wheter it be manure, coal, or other waste will be recycled into energy. This new energy will be used to power parts on Colorado and Wyoming. Look into the Sunflower Energy Plant in Holcomb, KS if you can.

P.S. I think the GOP leaders are right on in actively opposing this bill even after it's passing in the House. It looks like we may have good, solid leaders in place, just as long as they can stay consistant.

    • SugarBeets says:

Damn! We're half way there. Now if we can get Washington D.C. to box their crap and send it to Kansas we can start to solve the energy crisis and save the world!

I hope you're right about being able to convert all waste to energy, there's plently of that in DC too.

Heads up Texans! The following is a response from Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison concerning CAP & TRADE. She is a koolaid drinker at the fountain of Global Climate change! She apparently buys into man causing the changes we have seen. I guess she hasn't heard that we have been cooling for the past 10 years. How can that be Senator? We haven't diminished our use of energy?

    "Dear Friend:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the American Clean Energy and Security Act. I welcome your thoughts and comments.

In our effort to reduce emissions, I believe we must invest in alternative sources of energy. Wind, solar, nuclear, and biomass are clean, safe and effective sources of power. Their increased use would create thousands of jobs and allow us to produce energy for Americans, by Americans.

Some Members of Congress have expressed their intent to mandate a cap-and-trade policy to be imposed on all Americans. I believe that cap-and-trade would increase energy prices. In 2008, Peter Orszag, who then served as the Director of the Congressional Budget Office, and who now serves as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, testified before the U.S. Senate’s Committee on Finance on the implications of a cap-and-trade regime. In his testimony, Director Orszag stated, “Under a cap-and-trade program, firms would not ultimately bear most of the costs of the allowances but instead would pass them along to their customers in the form of higher prices.”

For this reason, I believe that a cap-and-trade approach to address climate change would be onerous and would adversely impact the economy. It could create economic hardship for farmers, ranchers, workers and small businesses, in addition to consumers. The last thing our nation needs during this time of economic hardship is higher energy prices and higher levels of unemployment due to a federal mandate passed down from Washington.

As cap-and-trade legislation comes before the Senate, I will keep your comments in mind. I appreciate hearing from you, and I hope you will not hesitate to keep in touch on any issue that is important to you."

    Sincerely,
    Kay Bailey Hutchison
    United States Senator

    • RobNRick says:

oscat, I read her reply to you and I did not get that at all from her letter. She is saying that to reduce emissions we need to invest in nuclear, wind and solar. We havent built a new nuclear plant in the United States for over 25 years. Those are things we should be doing along with drilling here now, not capping emissions and taxing all Americans for it. Capping our emissions while China, India and the like have no regulations is like sticking a piece of bubble gum in the dam. It will do nothing. This bill they passed in the house is a farce. Its just a way to get MORE money from our pockets to make themselves rich. I dont see where she says global warming is man made or even that she believes that. She said that this cap & tax would kill our economy. She is not in favor of the bill they just passed through the house. At least thats how I read her letter. Global warming is a big fat lie to make Al Bore and the rest of these idiots more wealthy than they already are and the rest of us dirt poor.

      • oscat says:

I do not disagree with your assessment. What prompted my response to Kay Bailey is her statement…."In our effort to reduce emissions, I believe we must invest in alternative sources of energy." This comment tells me she is unaware or doesn't care that the earths' temperature has been flat to slightly negative for the last decade in spite of increased carbon dioxide levels.
It is great that she cites nuclear energy as a good source of energy. I am going to ask her to initiate an effort to re-start the IFR (Integrated Fast Reactor) that produces more energy and has much less waste than conventional thermal reactors. This reactor because of it's process is inherently safe. It fails safe. Testing of this type reactor was underway when Clinton killed it in 1994. If you are interested in this I suggest you read the following article: in THE REPUBLIC News and Issues Magazine, June-September 2005. Preface by Terry Robinson.)

        Abstract
The principal provision of the electricity-generating IFR advanced nuclear reactor is its inexhaustible, domestic, non-fossil, fuel supply. IFR provides revolutionary improvement in all important areas of nuclear powerfuel efficiency, safety, waste, and non-proliferation.
The Integral Fast Reactor (IFR) program director provides perspective on concept evolution.
        Preface
Soaring fuel prices, with the accompanying economic vulnerabilities, and environmental concerns about nuclear power plants in our own back yard has brought increased attention to energy needs in the past few months.
The Republic Magazine wishes to review in the next months just what should play major roles in filling our future energy needs, and in particular, a nuclear energy program of the recent past that appears to have been bypassed for political reasons.
Nuclear energy in some form promises abundant, safe, environmentally friendly, and economic power, and it is worthwhile examining what is known about advanced forms of nuclear power technology. When hearing the term nuclear power, many people conjure up images of Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, nuclear weapons, and vast quantities of radioactive waste lasting forever. We here at The Republic shared these concerns, but were pleased to learn that there had been advanced nuclear technology research that eliminated or at least minimized the major concerns about nuclear power generation. We questioned why this research was terminated.
The Republic Magazine contacted an expert in this field, Dr. Charles Till, to help us present this topic to you.
The Republic Magazine extends our appreciation to Dr. Till for helping us and our readers understand how nuclear power technology has evolved as well as wading through some of the myths and related issues involving nuclear power reactors.
Dr. Till was the long-time director of civilian nuclear power reactor development at Argonne National Laboratory. This program, by far the largest in the nation in the last decades of the century, was devoted entirely to research and development of nuclear reactors for electrical power generation. About two thousand engineers, scientists and supporting staff, along with a large complex of the facilities required for such work, were under his direction and guidance. For ten years, from 1984 to 1994, the work of this large team was focused exclusively on development of an Argonne brain-child, the Integral Fast Reactor. This technology promised an inherently safer reactor, a shorter-lived waste, and a limitless fuel supply.
