I have to say that I am disgusted with the Republican Party, as I have been for the past decade or so. It is times like these, that true Patriots (and notice I said Patriots, not Repubs or Dems) stand up for truth, honor, and integrity. They should call this man for what he is, a disgrace. If S.C. Republicans had any honor, they would publicly force this man out of before the weekend. They should require his resignation without continued pay or they should call an emergency session to inpeach him on Monday.
Samuel Adams stated, "He therefore is the truest friend to the liberty of his country who tries most to promote its virtue, and who, so far as his power and influence extend, will not suffer a man to be chosen into any office of power and trust who is not a wise and virtuous man. …whose fidelity has been tried in the nicest and tenderest manner, and has been ever firm and unshaken." The quote says enough of the people that voted the man into office. However, the people can rectify the situation by calling for this fraud to be removed from office. And if the Republican Party does not stand up and condemn this man, they too deserve the same fate that this man is sure to endure. It is time for Americans to refuse to tolerate this type of behavior from "ANY" politician and to remove them from office, by force if necessary, when subverting the will of the people, the laws of the land, and the moral absolutes our founders wrote into our Constitution. The people of S.C. should be on the steps of their state capital calling for this man's immediate dismissal. Nothing less should be tolerated. And this is what the rest of the nation should be calling for in Anytown, U.S.A. It is an honor to be chosen for public service, but career politicians have sullied the positions in favor of power, greed, and lust. We must take it back, or forever risk our honor and integrity as a nation, and a people.

I tried to post this this morning on all topis, but I guess the elves were still working.
    Off Topic but:
912 editor and LOYAL members of 912:
I have another 912er I share emails with and was alerted to the problem, I came on as usual, knowing damn well that the elves were working on it, and it occurred to me that this is similar to 1776, you all remember, the year of the Revolution when things were going downhill and the cause of Freedom looked bleak, after all we had just declared independence five months earlier. Thomas Paine wrote ""These are the times to try men's souls:The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it NOW, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."(The American Crisis 1).
Now, I will ask all 912ers, are you the sunshine patriot, the summer soldier who gets upset, jumps to the wrong conclusion because things don't go the way you feel it should OR are you the patriot, who will continue to fight no matter what.
    See part 2 in Reply

    • OldMarine says:

      Part 2
Are you willing to stand strong, trust in each, and trust your leaders (In this case the Head elf and his helpers) or are you going to just quit. Well, if you are the latter, please don't let us stop you.

BUT if you a the PATRIOT, then take the "bad" with the good and though we don't trust the politicans, I feel Glenn has earned ours, so trust in him and each other. This is just one battle of many, the war to save America contnues, with or without you. It's your choice.

      • stang289 says:

i know theyre doing their best ! i think this site is under attack at all times and we stand with glenn and his 912 elves! i do believe that there are still people that still reply to the trolls and we should not reply to them at all on there post ! thats what ive been saying along with others and the elves too ! i am a PATRIOT !!!!

Let only those who have lead a perfect moral life criticize him. Then only his vacation time alone, away and unplugged would be an issue if it really is I would doubt that Nobody knew where he was or how to contact him, they unfortunately told lies instead of something like "the Governor has taken some personal time alone in an undisclosed location and will return late next week" no further comment or questions. Where are all the liberals that said the intrusions into Bill Clinton's escapades were private matters?

    • dpdacct says:

Hasn't this guy been crucified long enough? Sure, he made a mistake and let people down but the media and bloggers have gone way over the top with this guy. Where were they when Bill Clinton and John Edwards were doing the same thing? Rush was the only one to make a worthwhile comment about the situation, which was to say that, perhaps, Gov. Sanford lost his "spirit," his ability to deal with all this stimulas crap and having no control over his own state's affairs. I'm not condoning what Sanford did, or the way he did it, and maybe he should resign, but enough is enough.

  6. fmb501 says:

Well, maybe Republicans can get their act together by 2032.

  7. lisboncaine says:

I like this perspective, thank you.

The issues that should be important are the ones that demonstrate how the State has been hi-jacked by the few for the subjugation of the many.

These are the important "immoral" acts to which we should confine our decision making.

I really don't care what anyone does in their own life….if it remains within their own life and does not affect mine.

We say we want FREEDOM….but act, as if it is only our actions or the ones we define as moral..or those that seem to exemplify a moral code we define that deserve it….or can preserve it.

What kind of FREEDOM does that propose to be….perhaps the same falsehood that we rail against?

  8. Zymogene says:

I might be wrong, but I thought it was New York states senate…either way it's a sad stae of affairs when childish stunts like that are going on anywhere. Ya want to just smack em and tell them to grow the heck up, or send them to bed with no dinner and ground them for a month.

I was extreemly dissappointed to hear this about Sanford. My entire life, there's been nothing but sex scandles in the government comming from somewhere, and it's refreshing when there are those who don't, and I had figured he was different. So of course they are going to ride this for all it's worth, forgetting the Dems have a far from stellar record for moral behavior. I was glad he didn't drag his wife out for display, and it appeared to be the most sincere apology from any government official I've seen.

  9. stang289 says:

what a discrace ! just another liar ! polotician!

  10. lisboncaine says:

I continue to struggle to find a place to post.

Human beings live as if each breath were an epitaph to the one that came before.

While I believe Governor Sanford represents something of a disappointment…I urge all to consider that the disappointment is his.

I will continue to urge all of you to wonder on your perspective.

If you wish to offer that FREEDOM is yours by Natural Right and that what confirms that in the form of the contract you defend: The Constitution, is what is being torn apart….then what matter is it…the actions of the individuals that form this necessary evil….Government….if they have nothing to do with destroying the Constitution?

His and the temporal actions of any that hold office are of no matter to you.

The only qualification that has importance is the degree to which any of these players defend the Constitution.

If you are truly an individual, and free…as you claim, and seek only the minimal guarantee that you will continue in that….what use have you for the actions of others in pursuing your freedom?

Further, if we wish those that believe likewise to us to hold our high offices…that is individuals…I urge you to consider, what use have THEY for YOUR opinion. Theirs are the actions of individuals….and as such between themselves and whatever higher power they embrace.

All of this goes far deeper than individual stories plucked from news wires and media outlets…

Your confidence in the man has only one point of relevance….does he protect and defend your Rights as individuals? Or at least….has he done this to a greater degree than others and therefore earned your confidence derived from a rightful place….his oath to protect and defend the Constitution.

This begins to look more and more like the swill of "Reality TV"…every day…and not just this story….all of them.

Sad, crass…disgusting…but bright and shiny and lurid….elections and news conferences now have nothing to do with any political culture or heritage….they are simply erstwhile ratings mechanisms.

Reminds me of what I once wrote before I was stupid enough to think that ANY of this has anything to do with me….

"Sitting in a Damascus of Dying Doves
Knowing completely how the world loves
    Its little horrors
    Its demeaning sorrows
And this disguise it has arranged……"

What does being disillusioned with this man's feet of clay have anything to do with YOU being free?

Sorry, Mark….I still think that what you've said and done is valid all the same…

It is a shame you can not trust anybody anymore. The politicians are way out of hand from state to Federal. They say the Ten Commandments should be outlawed,I say they should read them and live by them. Our society has gone and hit rock bottom and no where else to go.I have been married for 45 years and never cheated on my wife, because I still love her.I know some times I let the times the problems make me angry about some issues.I will try not let that happen anymore I just love my God,family and country.I really do not like them taken away from me.Maybe some politicians should try that.

  12. Jennia says:

So sad. I backed him 100% in his stance against taking the bailout money. He seemed like a really good honest guy. I hate that he yielded to temptation because now he and his beautiful family must pay for his choice to sin. I think, from what I saw yesterday, that he genuinely gets that he screwed up big time. I just hope he and his family can now begin to heal. I'm praying that God will give them the strength to get through this. I just feel so bad for his wife and sons . . . so sad.

  13. harryrussell says:

Gov. Sanford will get crucified in the media over his affair because he is a conservative. Barack Obama could start behaving like Ike Turner and the liberal press would protect like a biting sow.

  14. Shadrach says:

If integrity was a prerequisite for higher office, there would be no one to fill that position.

  15. TDCobra says:

This is just another example of why the republican party is in such disarray. The tell everybody do as I say not as I do or they side with the democrats on enslaving the American public. All I have to say I am damn glad I'm no longer a republican & do not support this dishonesty in any fashion.
Gov. Sanford should resign & go take his tail back into the woods of SC & stay there. His kind American does not need.

    • lisboncaine says:

Ridiculous…this comment acts in so interest that I can find.

Nor…"spot on" as above….nor any of these other moanings and groanings about this.

You're not getting it are you? You're not coming to the conclusion that your Founding Fathers, were in many regards…not as moral, as even Bill Clinton.

Ben Franklin…was a confirmed hedonist….a member of the Hedonist Society
Thomas Paine….a bar brawler and a drunkard…a common rabble rouser.

But why does any of that matter?

It was NOT their actions or morality or immorality that built anything….it was their ideas.

The whole experiment here…the American Experiment was based on one over-riding principle.

That government, in the form proposed and adopted under the Constitution was a NON-ENTITY in the daily lives of its citizens.

Such was the limit that your Founders built led them to often muse that if was done correctly….the average citizen that lived doing nothing but providing for his own life…his own liberty….his own property….need NEVER have the government touch their life in any fashion…until such time that they abridged another's rights.

Why must you be illusioned….at all, such that the actions of people you don't even know would disillusion you?

Keep your moral outrage where it belongs…in your own life. And can we, just for once, just once…act like the Americans worthy of this experiment…and live our day to day lives as individuals involved in our own interest…living on our own terms…deriving our life from our own purpose.

Sorry, this is just flat stupid….walking away from something you believed in two weeks ago…and someone you believed gave it voice and traction….because you must derive your purpose from your politicians.

Go back and read the words of your Founders….and see if you can't just try to be worthy of what they handed you….for once.

      • You are absolutely right,. I wasn't sure where I stood on this so I would like to thank you, lisboncaine, for putting it in perspective for me and everyone. I hope more people start to wake up and realize this isn't about political leaders' personal choices, it is about what these politicians are doing (or not doing) for this country.

      • Rahthrae says:

It is not my place to judge him as a man. God and his family can and will do that. As a leader, you embody that which you lead. You become representative of those of whom you lead. The Pope could not lead his church, and instruct his flock effectively if he was engaging with prostitutes, or molesting children. A manager who embezzled from his company could not be trusted any longer to act in that company's best interest. No one could deal with him in good faith because of the lack of trust. The governor put himself in a position where his actions could have been influenced though extortion. That would preclude his ability to act as a representative to the people, and being able to act in our best interest. His actions showed poor judgement, a judgement that is critical to being able to lead and effect change. If he knew of another's transgressions like embezzelment, whom the person also knew of the governor's actions, he could be compromised in his ability to report the offender. The governor should resign, period. I can judge his effectiveness to represent me as my leader. Our founding fathers insured my right to vote in my interest and on my behalf.

      • stang289 says:

we hold them to a higher standard ! they have failed us their families and our country because they are using the wrong brain to think with ! this makes him a liar and a cheat in my eyes ! we have enough of them in office now ! they are killing whats left of the republican party for a cheap thrill ! im 49 and if i were in his position i would not do the same ! to many people were depending on him and all he cares about is himself ! selfish lying cheat ! and a bad father which is the worst of all !!

I was not around when Franklin & Paine were here & for some reason I do npot think you were either. As for what Gov. Sanford did it was wrong if he can lie to his wife & kids then what the hell do you think he is capable of doing to someone he does not even know. Get over it he failed because he was more interested in getting his knob polished then he was in being the Governor of South Carolina. I still stick with my first statement its time for him to resign……………………………………………….

  16. ChrisTyd says:

How sad. What is left of a conservative party is just melting away.

  17. fastfacts says:

This is sad that a person with so much potential would turn around and destroy their future. For example, Sanford and his affair, people need to learn that when you do stupid things like these they come back to bite them. Just look at all the "mistakes"/"ethics" that our politicians make. But what makes it even worse is the fact that we still vote them back in. I read articles like this on http://www.AmericanParchment.com and reread them in the archives so I can remember the stupid choices our politicians make so when it comes to the elections, we can get rid of them.

  18. Rahthrae says:

People fail. We all sin. If he was a factory worker, I would not expect him to be fired as long as it did not interfere with his job performance. I would consider it to be something personal between him and his family to sort out, and none of the general public's nor my business. The governor is not a factory worker. His ability as an administrator may not be effected, however, I don't think he handled his absence, regardless in what capacity, either appropriately or professionally. A governor is not merely an administrator. He, unlike the factory worker, put himself into a position as a leader and representative in his state for the Republican party that has as part of its platform family values and social conservatism. Hypocracy in matters directly tied to the realm of one's leadership capacity critically damages that person's ability to lead and represent others in those matters. I am sorry for his family. Nothing can fix what he has done. Governor Sanford, resign. Take time out to get your life ironed out. You cannot lead the Republican party effectively until you do.

    • LesIsmore says:

But what if the factory worker disappeared for 6 days and was responsible for managing the factory? And then we find out that he used the profits from the factory to visit his mistress?

      • Rahthrae says:

Then he would be fired. I stated, "I would not expect him to be fired as long as it did not interfere with his job performance." That factory worker would have stolen from the factory. As a manager, he could no longer be trusted to run the company in good faith, and no one could deal with the company in good faith while he was managing that company.

  19. sjgpa1 says:

One more example of the hypocrisy of the Republican Holier-Than- Thou Party.

Yes family values while you sleep around on Father’s Day!

The only way to defend marriage is to keep Republicans from getting married!

  20. Dustyluv says:

Because we want MORE from our leaders. We want people who inspire and lead. Who wants anyone to lead them that they cannot trust? Do you??? Really??? Do you???

Kennedy was the the tip of the iceburg…Look at how low the Dems have fallen morally. The Barney Franks and the Liar Nancy Pelosi. You want that leading you??? I know I don't….And I think you want more too if you just stop and think about it.

Just because a Clinton soaked his cigar in Monica does not make him anyone I want to go smoke with..Much less allow him to legislate my life….

Goodbye Governor…Go get your life in order and stay ot of mine…

  21. gsteinbacher says:

Although He was wrong in what he did he did come out and admit it like a man. I still fully support him and do not think he should resign as governor. We had a president that fell down to and he continued to do his job and he was by far insuperior to governor Sanford in his job performance.

Now on a lighter side I believe that he told his office where he was going but they missinterpeted what he said, he was going to chase some Argentinian tail and they thought he said he was going to walk the Appalachian trail

    P.S. I am a SC resident

    • beckgether says:

Oh that is good. Just so darn mad at him because I looked up to him so much and now that has vanished. I hate what he has done to his family and the country. It would never have gotten the press it has but for his own action of leaving the way he did for the amount of time he did. He was asking for what he got. Stupid. Did not have to be that way.

  22. detestObama says:

I feel sadened about this afair Mark Sanford was having. It may have ruined his chances to run for a higher office.
But everyone should remember, we are all tempted from time to time with a host of sins, and we are only as strong as our moral codes dictate. It could be sex, or riches, or fame, or greed, or power, or many other vices that tempt us daily, and the only way to curb these temptations is the true belief in God.
I hope Mark, and his wife can make a true recommitment to each other, and for the four boys that will be effected by what just happened! We should all pray for Mark, and his wife to make a new, and lasting bond with each other!

Each of all of us have some cross to bare. Without God, we can not truely conquer our sins. We are all weak, and need help!

  23. rrd724 says:

Does anyone else out there find it highly incredible that TWO Republican "upcoming" potential Presidency candidates coincidentally come out with these self-admitted affairs…………….Hmmmmm, also Gov. Sanford gave the Feds a bit of grief over accepting stimulus money………right. I personally have to wonder what is really going on here?
There is absolutely no telling what is behind this and allbeit could very well be the truth, this present administration, in my opinion, would do absolutely anything to undermine a potential opponent….wonder how many more will come out of the woodwork with "affair" stories?

  24. It's the weirdness of it all that is making it such a hot topic. He said he'd spent the last five days crying. I'd like to know what he was crying about? Because he was so tired? Because he had to sneak off and knew he'd be caught? Because he loves her so much and can't be with her because he has to be the governor of a state in another country? Because he may have destroyed his family?

Either way, he sort of melted down, committed career suicide. It was really stupid what he did. He left his state without telling anyone where he was going or leaving anyone in control. He left the country for several days! How on earth did he think he could get away with that? I think he's lost it. He's over the edge emotionally. I feel bad for him in a way, but then the wife in me really doesn't feel bad for him at all, and the rational, responsible worker/ owner is feeling rather contemptuous.

  25. RockyMtn1776 says:

This make me wonder ,when do our elected officals have time to do any actual work in Washington. They are always off on a " fact finding" mission aka vacation, or having an affair They are in DC long enough to get our economy in a shambles and blame everyone except themselves. The wives of these dishonest, lying, scumbags know what their husbands really are and STILL many of them stay. They and us, deserve better. If they can't be true to their wives, they sure arn;t going to be with us. Most don't even have the decency ro resign, they still crave the power and the benefits.

  26. discouraged says:

I have to give the man props for what he has done in the past (resisting "bailout" money for his state etc.) We have to give him credit for realizing that what he did wrong (although isn't it funny how people tend to only realize that after they have been caught) On the same note if we held other politicians to the same standard we wouldn't have a bunch of cheaters (the tax kind) being hired by Obama. I am going to have to look more closely at the candidates the next election and vote out all the swine. There are some real tools out there and unfortunately they disguise themselves as good guys.

  27. htrn says:

Does anyone else find it ironic that Sanford said he was "seeking the wisdom of Solomon"? I certainly find that an irony worthy of note.

    • george48 says:

He was seeking it in Argentina!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • 1776time says:

Not at all. Many great men of God in the Bible would fail and continue to seek God's wisdom. Even though these men failed God, He would still use them for great purposes. Read about David, a man after God's heart. Lets not forget about his affair. As far as Solomon's wisdom, I read the book of Ecclesiastes, which was written by Solomon, once and awhile to keep everything in perspective.

      • htrn says:

David made a mistake by the affair, but his critical mistake was not the affair. It was the attempted cover-up by putting the husband directly in harms way. As for Solomon, his critical mistake was turning his back to God when his heart was turned to idolatry. Keep in mind that in both cases they start by turning away from that which God approves of.

  28. SharoninPhx says:

Why am I not surprised? And shouldn't I be outraged at my lack of surprise.
    Wow.

  29. The Republican Party is splitting from it's conservative origins. It has become an auxiliary outlet for the Democratic party and its ideals. You can no longer equate Republican with Conservative. Look at ex-Republican Arlen Specter – same guy, same ideals, new party. Every registered Republican needs to
    A) re-register as a Democrat. Then close your eyes and vote for every tree hugging, peace-nik Democrat on the ticket in the primary.
    B) support anyone running against the incumbent Republican.
This will clear the room of the RINO's and then we can start to realign the Conservative base. This is not going to happen overnight, and it will be painful. Sort of like the current environment we are currently in.

  30. 1776time says:

Down thru history some our good leaders were guilty of infidelity, which included some our Founding Fathers. I admire the work Gov. Sanford has done for the conserative party. Did he fail in his personal life? Yes. I haven't heard of him spending tax dollars to have this affair. I'm not justifying what he has done and there will be personal consequences for what he has done. If were looking for the perfect person to serve as a conserative, well good luck with all of that! I am not a perfect person, in fact, far from it. I try to do the right things and sometimes I fail. Don't we all? Unless he has spent a good some of tax dollars to have this affair, then he should not step down. "Thee without sin cast the first stone".

If we r going down with political correctness crap then every one has failed.
No i DO NOT condone the Govs actions…

    • beckgether says:

Just how many "get-aways" without telling anyone does one give a governor before it crosses the line??

    • FreeFlight says:

Perfection is not expected for all have sinned. But I would argue that no oath is as solemn as marriage vows. People that have lost a spouse will tell you that they feel like they have been cut in half, that they are no longer a whole person. Actually that is the way it is supposed to be, the two becoming one.

If a person will violate the most solemn oath that they would ever take, then how can we trust them when they say that they will protect and defend. It places a doubt in our minds as to whether they will live up to their oath of office. If they will cheat on their family then they will betray us as well. Or at least their betrayal of us seems much more likely.

Also, those who deceive like he did, open themselves up for outside pressure. Not that they would agree to not respond to a terror attack so that their affair isn't revealed, but maybe they will signoff on some bill that is bad, but they can keep their secret.

It is a character issue and conservatives care about character more than liberals.

    • LesIsmore says:

The problem is the hypocracy and yes, he did spend tax payer dollars to visit his mistress, at least 4 trips that we know of. He should follow the advice he gave to Bill Clinton, resign.

    • 357ben says:

      There is an old saying.

"let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
Of course Jesus Christ was the one who said that.

Unless your perfect, and never made any mistakes, you really shouldn't judge a man for a mistake! When you come to grips with the fact, that no man is perfect, you then look at the whole of his life! When you do that, and judge him on ALL that he has done, good and bad, then you can truly see what kind of man he is.

From looking at his entire life, Gov. Sanford, has shown me that he is a good and honorable man. I think he still has a very bright future, and may be one of the brighter stars in the GOP today. Over the next few days and weeks, I hope we pray for him, instead of excoriating him!!

I was probably one of Mark sanfords biggest supporters. The whole purpose of this movement is values and priciples. Everybody makes mistakes but….. we cannot accept this kind of detour from our values from our leaders. To do so would take us farther down the wrong path. So with that being said, I personally no longer stand beghind any GOP canidates and am now going to go back to pursuing an alt. way to take our country back.

  32. Goo says:

The issue isn't his infidelity…the issue is he left the State without informing even his Lieutenant Governor of his whereabouts. That is a dereliction of duty. He should be removed from his position, and quickly. If this had just been his own indiscretion, that would have been different. He left the government without a leader for 4 days. That is inexcusable.

    • gsteinbacher says:

Now that the media has both parts of the story which do you think they will run with Infidelity or dereliction of duty? My money is on the infidelity.

  33. lnbarnes says:

What is wrong with the Republican Party, as it seems to be dissolving before our eyes. I remain a committed conservative, but I can not support the Republican Party as it stands now. It is pretty clear to me that Obama will get EVERYTHING he wants, because the "other side" has collapsed. Ron Paul is looking pretty good right now, but I do not support all of his positions and I doubt that he could realistically mount a significant campaign against the Obama juggernaut.

  34. TaraKeane says:

I saw this coming and it made me so upset … I really like Mark Sanford, and I was so happy to see him say that he would not accept any bailout money. I saw some hope in this man, and I'm so annoyed that this happened becuase now he will neer be seen in the same way … He was wrong and it was the worst time for him to do something like that.

  35. magnificent says:

Why was that girl in the background of the speech smiling so gleefully? Anyone notice that? I thought it strange to see someone smiling in the background at a speech like this. Very strange.

  36. acheyjake says:

Friend, two wrongs do not equal right. I ask you to consider that it is an issue of integrity, no matter which side of the aisle on which you reside, or even if you reside in the middle. Even though personal accountability went out the door with the democrats long before it did with the republicans, the republicans have closed the gap.

There was a caller from South Carolina today on a national radio talk show who said she didn't think she really had a choice anymore when it came to the dems and repubs. She is correct in that thinking.

    Take care, friend.

  38. kenoshax says:

Gov. Mark Sanford, you sir, let me down. i have had a lot of respect for you and i had high hopes for your future. i thought you could be part of a movement in the right direction. sadly, you chose to break that trust and now you will have to face the consequences of your actions. thank you for being man enough to admit your faults and resigning from your position of governors, i believe you did the right thing. for disappointing me, i forgive you. i hope that you are able to get your personal affairs in order and do not re injure those affected by this behavior. i hope your family, friends and constituents will find it in their hearts to forgive you if you continue to face up to your responsibility in this matter. please do the right thing and earn back the trust of those who put their faith in you.

  39. Governor Mark Sanford admitted today to having an affair over the past year. His statement was honest, repentant and to the point. I will continue to support Gov. Sanford, who made a mistake. I hope that those who judge him on what he has done will judge him on EVERYTHING he has done. If that is the case I am confident that he will come out ahead.
God bless his wife, family, and all those hurt by his very poor decision(s). God bless the residents of S. Carolina and the USA, the loss of the leadership of men such as this will be a loss to us all.

    • Goo says:

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree, kursten. By this act alone, he was in dereliction of his duty. He needs to step down.

    • TEX says:

Yes everyone makes mistakes, but he lied to the people of SC not to mention his own family mutiple times. How can a man lead others if morals and values do not lead him. I had hoped to see him on a 2012 ticket as someones VP, but if he will mislead and deceive his own family and State, for his own selfish reasons, what will he do to his Country? I hope he and his family recover and move on but in my option he's no longer fit to lead. In a time where morals, values, and honesty are fading daily, we need leaders who lead by example.

  40. weezo says:

    Fande, We agree on something!

I have little compassion for a man who caries on such a lengthy affair while giving his wife the impression he is trying to mend fences. His wife gave him four, count 'em, four, beautiful sons. What more could he have wanted in "exotic" land?

  41. Boopster says:

charliechatbox, yes they did and would not acknowledge them when they did re-open the doors.

    • What!? Do you have a link or reference? What were they voting on?

    • I would like to know what freedoms that have stripped this time! To go behind closed doors and lock other out, then ignore them = What self serving cowards.

Perhaps we should think about how brave those in Iran are. They are putting their life on the line for just a shred of freedom.

  42. Boopster says:

Cannot speak for the people of S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford on his record or fulfilling his obligations and responsibilities to his constituents, and State(he is not my States Governor)But under these circumstances, if my Gov. ( male or female) was unfaithful to their spouse as long as the Governor was serving the public and office they are elected to it is none of my business. Under no circumstances do I approve of the indiscretion. But this is their private problem to work through.

Thank goodness, he did not drag his wife or mistress to endure the media and public onslaught on their private lives.

    • Vindex22 says:

business is business, his private life is his private life. they shouldn't mix. i am in no way condoning his private actions but none of us nor the world knew what is going on behind closed doors. he is manning up to his actions, on a professional level lets cut him some slack, he has got enough to deal with at home.

    • gsteinbacher says:

He won't have to drag them in, the media will do it for him. We all know they love a good blood bath and they don't care who it hurts as long as it sells. Never watched the news for a long time because of that, but with everything going on now I feel I must endure to keep informed.

    • beckgether says:

He very much did drag his wife into it! What the heck did he think would happen being governor? Duh!

  43. beckgether says:

Within 24 hours I went from thinking he was an American hero to thinking he is a real jerk. He did try do the right thing for his state even though all of our states never really had a chance..er..choice. But as far as him letting down his party…OH REALLY!!!!! How about ALL the conservatives that are very important to the country right now. His being so self centered at this time is hard to understand. He is politically done, what a shame. Only greater shame is what he did to four fine boys.

  44. Resign governor, I don't care if there is a (R) after your name, you can't be trusted anymore. If you can't keep your family life in check, how can you run the state of South Carolina.

  45. Shadrach says:

    I thought I had been banished!! *~*

  46. Ohiowoman says:

I'm saddened by this news, but Mark Sanford is human and subject to all the foibles and temptations the rest of us are faced with in our lives. I feel sympathy for his wife and children for having to face this private business in a public arena. Unfortunately, that is the price that seems to get paid for being in public life. I truly hope they can reconcile, if that is what they both want.

  47. Shadrach says:

I was really disappointed in hearing about the Governor, and I hope that he and his wife can work their problems out as a family. The children need a stable life in which to grow, in my opinion, hopefully they will focus their energy on them and move forward as a family.

  48. LadyIzShy says:

say what you mean and mean what you say. one more person who didnt stand for what he said he did. yes I know people fail and I do think he did the right thing by admiting it al be it too late. I do not think he will stay in office. his word means nothing now.. sadly

  49. tehee says:

I am very sad to hear of this story.

  50. fande3rls says:

Good bye sanford Your history buddy, YOU failed YOUr state and fail us. good bye good luck my your wife forgive you .

  51. Goo says:

No, and that is why I expect Stanford to do the right thing here, not the politically expedient thing. He needs to step down.

  52. beckgether says:

Most men are better men than Clinton. What kind of a bar is that?

  53. gsteinbacher says:

For me it is enough that he stepped away from the republican party leadership. He is still a great governor and he has a job to finish. Do you want him to just walk away from that too?

  54. hiatttn says:

    because I like to party!!!

  55. thebarbarian says:

hia .. then drink a beer and since weezy is greeny and spread the wealth type send it some recycled beer.

  56. gsteinbacher says:

    You got me there

  57. 1776time says:

htrn, David had many consequences for both sins. Let us remember that they both turned back to God. Thought I was answering your first question. Solomon wrote about all of this and what mattered most. I guess I don't want pick apart what a humbled man,(Sanford), has said.

  58. FreeFlight says:

David's first mistake was in standing there and watching a married woman bathe and letting his mind wander rather than turning and walking away. Small mental wandering can lead to some really bad consequences. David was guilty of lust, adultery, lying and murder. He paid for it, the woman paid for it, her dead husband had nothing to do with it and he was murdered for it and the child from this tryst died.

Pretty heady consequences for letting your mind wander. Should stand as a warning that small indiscretions can lead to great evil.

Reminds me that Jesus said that if you have lusted after a woman it is same as committing adultery with her. Our thoughts precede our actions.

  59. 1776time says:

I didn't want to get into a theological discussion. Just want to make the point that a good conservative can be used for the good of country in these desperate times. As result of this, Sanford could even come out a better and stronger man for the cause.

  60. RNHunter says:

Good comment. I agree. Even though I am religious, I for one would like more separation of church and state here. I totally believe in religious freedom, but religion running countries has never worked well as shown by Saudi Arabia, Iran and the Spanish Inquisition. This is his private issue between him and his family. As for my fairness, I thought the Clinton thing was also off base. We humans are very odd. There is an outcry that the government should stay out of our bedrooms, likely started by George Orwell's "Big Brother" book 1984, but then we just can't wait to grade the politicians in THEIR bedroom. Odd.

  61. I thought about this all night, and I still agree with myself. BEFORE we knew he was involved in this we saw his leadership as valuable. Knowing this doesn't change that. As far as this being Clintonesque, Clinton was with a subordinate, and this guy was not. I don't feel that it his duty to perform penance by losing EVERYTHING. This guy is going to lose enough.
Besides, from a Christian perspective (mine) God uses the analogy of his people as adulterous a LOT. So while I have never been unfaithful to my husband, I feel like I am no better than this guy. We're all hypocrites in one way or another.

  62. OldMarine says:

You're part of a fine group with a long heritage. Yes, I feel we are under attack at all times, the reason, I feel is we friegthen them, the left is afraid of us, that's why we a demonized. They can't beat us in a fair fight/debate so they have resort to other tactics, can you guess what would happen if all of 912 fought the same way to Move On Puffinton and the others.

  63. stang289 says:

i cant figure out why they even come to this site . i mean i know its just to disrupt and egg us on untill we say something stupid ! but i would never want to even be seen on the puffington move off or media doesnt matter ! they are either payed or just losers or both to do so ! thanks old marine for sticking up for glenn and the elves they deserve our respect ! and i also thank glenn and the elves for this site !!!
