  1. A hipocrit is a hipocrit is a hipocrit. If his wife cannot trust him then we cannot either, to me nothing he says now holds any water, just another scumbag in the grand parade of scumbags. All Republicans and Democrats included. I just hope Sarah Palin does not go off the deep end along with the Govenor of Texas. If you say you are for something then you had damn well live the talk and walk the walk otherwise you are a scumbag hipocrit! Nuff Said.

This is the EXACT reason why the leader of the GOP is not evident at this time. One minute you have a rising star and the next they're in Argentina with a mistress. Now Gov Sanford for the forseeable future will be ineffective in towing the conservative line, and that's a shame because he had a good message. I see a lot of talk on this site about 2012, that a long way off and really at this time it's compleatly up to us to be getting our message out, because nobody can speak for us better than ourselves. Bug the crap out of your congressmen and senators and get your friends to join in. I feel the tide turning a very little and our reps are getting worried about the mid-term elections so hopefully we can stop healthcare and crap and trade. If those two can be stopped we still have a chance to save our country.

  3. tvlgds says:

What amazes me is that the press villifies Republicans who cheat, but when it's Democrats "it's a personal family matter." They're all slimeballs, and if they can't honor their vows to their spouses, how in the world can we trust them to uphold their vows to we, the people??? Character DOES matter. While we're all seeing endless news about zipper impaired Governors and dead celebrities, Congress is liable to pass the largest tax in history–we better all hammer our Congress critters to vote HELL NO on Crap and Trade!

  4. OldMarine says:

Frankly, I'm fed up with the scandles on both sides, the media cicuses and the countless hours of analysis. We have developed into a country of looky loos. A country where the people know more about American Idol then American History. Sex and politicians have been inter related since the Bible. It hasn't changed and probalby never will. Why are we wasting our time condemning, analyzing or whatever. In my opinion, he violated the trust that his wife, family and the people of the state placed in him. Let's move on, our country is in danger of being destroyed from within and without….THIS is what we should be concerned about.
"Ninety percent of the politicians give the other ten percent a bad reputation."…..Henry A. Kissinger
    LETS FIND THE 10 PERCENT

    This is off subject
We have to watch what the left hand is doing now with all the coverage of the three stars passing away in California
Goverment is tring to sneak threw cap and trade as well as the health care and now not many are paying attention BE ALERT

    • OldMarine says:

Flood your congress people with emails, I all ready did. Email all your reps. Do it tonight, do it first thing in the morning, but do it. We have to stop Crap and Tax.

What makes us think there are no consequences for selfish, private acts? What we do selfishly in private redounds its selfish mess into general society. Our addictions to behaviors so wrong for our children to copy, our secret sins still hurt others. Yet from politician to parent we linger over magazines, movies, HBO, and adult books that glamorize health-risks!
Kids don't have to be in the room to sniff hypocrisy or worse yet copy the adult model. Kids are selfish like we, only they break into tantrums. In the end no one can save him or herself from self-absorption.

We can't break the addictions on our own, President, Senator, Governor, citizen. Time to be humble and echo Reinhold Niebuhr's words . .
    "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;and wisdom to know the difference.

    Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
    Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it;
    Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen."

Glenn…Glenn…Glenn…watched the beginning of your show today…Governor Sanford is someone you have interviewed a couple times…and somehow I figured you would not stoop to reading one of THE e-mails on the air..complete with a violin playing prop…I would have expected this from Paul Begala, or David Letterman, or a host of other liberal mouthpieces…but you?? We get it, character does matter..not only for politicians..but media types as well….I lost a little respect for all this today…I guess conservatives that screw up today are tomorrows roadkill.

  8. OldMarine says:

    Part 2
Are you willing to stand strong, trust in each, and trust your leaders (In this case the Head elf and his helpers) or are you going to just quit. Well, if you are the latter, please don't let us stop you.

BUT if you a the PATRIOT, then take the "bad" with the good and though we don't trust the politicans, I feel Glenn has earned ours, so trust in him and each other. This is just one battle of many, the war to save America contnues, with or without you. It's your choice.

  9. OldMarine says:

I tried to post this this morning on all topis, but I guess the elves were still working.
    Off Topic but:
912 editor and LOYAL members of 912:
I have another 912er I share emails with and was alerted to the problem, I came on as usual, knowing damn well that the elves were working on it, and it occurred to me that this is similar to 1776, you all remember, the year of the Revolution when things were going downhill and the cause of Freedom looked bleak, after all we had just declared independence five months earlier. Thomas Paine wrote ""These are the times to try men's souls:The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it NOW, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."(The American Crisis 1).
Now, I will ask all 912ers, are you the sunshine patriot, the summer soldier who gets upset, jumps to the wrong conclusion because things don't go the way you feel it should OR are you the patriot, who will continue to fight no matter what.
Please see reply for part 2

So nice of those private emails getting out.. another lesson in politics 101 we are past the age of secret photos.

  12. TNRebelgirl says:

I posted this on vent but I think it pertains to this section too. People have questions about how the emails were leaked etc….I don't necessarily believe in conspiracy theories however, I found something very strange while looking through the you-tube videos this morning. Don't ask me why this woman's face stuck in my mind…perhaps it was because she was laughing and smiling while Mark Sanford was giving his press conference yesterday. But you can take a look and come to your own conclusions. Notice the Af-Am woman on the left in the tape of the news conference.

    http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html?playerId=...

Now take a look at the you-tube video that is a recruiting tool for the red jackets…A closer look city year-a new world order..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0NxgN84ZFk&eu...

Is this the same woman? And I would like to know, if it is, why she was there. Does she work in the Sanford administration? What's the deal with this woman?

    • SheriS says:

You are right they do like very much alike! I agree with your comment about how the emails were obtained as from something I heard this morning stated that a newspaper in the SC capital had been sitting on them waiting to release them! Sounds like someone on the inside in the Govs office released them to me. VERY FISHY I WOULD SAY!

  13. Freedom2010 says:

As a former "cheatee" let me just say this: it is better to know now about a politician's character before we get into bed with him or her. As to moral rectitude attacks by libs: which is worse? Cheating with a friend, an intern, a prostitute or running a Franke's House of Whorrors out of one's basement thereby supplying the "cheators"?

  14. gk4freedom says:

Well…I'm going to take a different road here…many of our posters are readily condemning Gov. Sanford, calling for his resignation, making comments about the public trust being compromised, loose moral values, thinking with the wrong head, etc…..there is not a one of us…if WE are truly honest with ourselves who have not compromised ourselves in one way or another. Just because he (Gov Sanford) was in the public eye doesn't exclude him from those same immoral feelings ( which sometimes morph into actions) that we have. He just happens to have been caught…maybe some of us haven't yet. Sitting on my computer blogging about another person's shortcomings, I could make myself (as well as some of you) out to be God's gift to morality…and none of you would know the difference. Let's all have a spirit of yes…sadness for the family, and forgiveness for the man. And then let us move on.

    • SheriS says:

Great comment. It gets a little tiring to see all those who are casting stones while they sit at their computers and can say anything they want. Perhaps they have never made mistakes. I know I have and have asked for forgiveness when I did. Thank you for "speaking something sane" in this insanity we all find outselves in these days!

    • dikurt2 says:

So do you feel then that former President Clinton should have been/ should be forgiven for his actions?

      • gk4freedom says:

I was appalled by former President Clinton's behavior in office….and yes…I forgive him..because my Bible tells me that "by what measure I forgive others will be the measure given me"…I have made mistakes, also.

    • beckgether says:

IT WAS WRONG THAT HE USED HIS STATE MONEY FOR HIS TRIPS!!!

      • gk4freedom says:

If he did, I totally agree…but if we want this to morph into all that is 'wrong' with this country, time and space will not allow it. I think the $300,000 price tag for the photo of the Statue of Liberty was excessive as well…the $400,000 price tag for the President to fly to Iowa to sign the stimulus bill was out of line too
…since we, as a country are operating on borrowed money…and this list is endless…no one in government asks me for my permission to spend audaciously…do they you??

    • lifelibhappi says:

Well said, gk4freedom. We are all sinners in need of a Savior ~ Jesus. I'm glad that the Governor didn't continue the lies, and that he came out and told the truth. But what he did was totally wrong. I feel bad for his family. I believe our country is under great attack. By things both seen and unseen. God have mercy on us all.

  15. TJwasright says:

While I agree with those who have called for forgiveness of Governor's Sanford actions it also needs to be pointed out that he just made it even more difficult for those of us who want to restore an abiding sense of personal integrity and responsibility to government. Whether it's Sanford, Ensign, Spitzer, Blagojevich, or Clinton doesn't matter; it's the fact that they seem to believe it's ok to flaunt the mores of our society. They have no concern for the horrific shame it brings upon their children and wives, not to mention the people who entrusted them with their vote. Imagine the ridicule Sanford's sons will encounter from their classmates once they return to school. Whenever an elected official does something to disgrace himself, it diminishes us all. Parents know that you get the kind of behavior you reward; it's no different for politicians.

  16. C_Marie says:

Gov. Stanford is the epitome is a man who will never be trusted again. Not only was he disloyal to his wife, his state and his nation by puliing the disappearing act, he has dishonored his entire family. Leaving the state with nobody in charge or even knowing where his worthless ass was if unforgiveable. So many of the political wives stay with these worthless men even thought they know what they really are. Certainly not a good example for the children. The Gov. should have the decency to resign but he hates to give up the money, benefits and power that comes with the job. Shame !

    • SheriS says:

Seems Bill Clinton was trusted enough to complete his term as president and guess what, he is still married to his wife as well. He is also considered a trusted man who is making millions!

    • dominke says:

Should we hold all people to the same standard or be selective? Clinton cheated and lied under oath and congress let him stay in office. In our systemof justice all should be treated the same.

  18. tehee says:

I didn't like Clinton, however, I didn't agree then with every juicy little detail coming out and I don't agree now. The fact that he committed adultry is bad enough. While yes I feel it is morally wrong, I agree with others that it serves no purpose to release these emails. It is disturbing that our journalists have lost all sense of ethics and it only hurts his family further.

With that said it is nothing more than a distraction of what is going on up on the hill. We have serious issues that need to be address I don't feel this is front page news, but instead, a private matter for his family to deal with. We need to stay focused on the pending Univ. Health, the possiblity of Stimulus III and now our government passing legal immigration reform at the same time. This is crazy, too many things to address all at once.

    • Zymogene says:

Don't forget the cap and trade, being pushed through at this very moment. I dispise adultry, it's a broken bond of trust and right now, this government is giving us nothing but the shaft, making everything a catastrophe, and out right lying about what they are doing. This man broke the oath between himself, his wife and his God….our government is breaking an oath with them, us and God. His personal transgressions hurt his family, the governments transgressions effect each and every one of us. His wife could throw his sorry butt out and they can either work it out or not…….we can't immediatly throw the government out to stop additional problems, we may never be able to repair or recover from. I'm far more concerned about the government.

  19. Barb66 says:

I really feel sorry for the family the kids most of all. At least they are out of school for the summer and hopefully this will blow over by the school starts in the late summer. This governor should resign and try to pull his family back together.

  20. jpehrlich says:

When did adultery become an enhancement to an elected official's resume?
Jenny Sanford gets my vote for kicking the bum out two weeks ago and NOT standing by "her man" at the presser.
Hmmm….it may be that the wrong Sanford was voted Governor.

It is VERY disturbing that some one hacked his emails however it reminds me of my late Mom's admonishment: "Be sure your sins will find you out."

  21. DodgerDog says:

I'm curious about the girl standing over the shoulder of Gov Sanford during the press conference. She had a big smile on her face like this was the best thing she's ever heard. There was another woman standing next to this girl who looked somewhat amused as well.

I do believe Sanford should step down for the good of his family which should be more important right now than being Gov.

    • beckgether says:

I think he should serve out his term and be voted out. I am very upset with him to say the least but actually what Pelosi and team have and are doing really is much worse and somehow they seem to be super glued. What is with that? A democrat thrives no matter what and a republican is so OUT OF THERE. That is the way it should be with all of them, I just don't want to hear that there isn't any difference between the two.

    • Freedom2010 says:

I was curious about those young women as well.

  22. Texan2 says:

"Sanford's woman is alive and well….I wasn't so lucky". Mary Jo Koepencke.

  23. recovery24 says:

Our leaders throughout history seem to have a tendency toward affairs..From King David, a man after God's own heart, to our founding fathers, and more recently, JFK and Bill Clinton..I have even heard rumors about FDR…None perhaps handled it quite as clumsy as Gov Sanford however..I do think it would be best for the Gov to step down, but I have no room to judge..Do you..?

  24. revll09 says:

How did the press got hold of his EMAILS???????

Welcome, to a new era of Big Brother!

There is no more privacy. Personal liberties are been violated.

  25. gragar says:

I too prefer to go back to the days where these transgressions were kept secret. That would still not excuse the behavior but at least we all didn't have to know the details. We can thank Bill Clinton for lowering the bar for this to be accepted by the public and making these things common knowledge. I applaud Jenny Sanford for not "standing by her man" yesterday. She is hurting and why should she show support to him at this time.

Yes, Mr. Sanford you didn't help the GOP by this but the person you really hurt was yourself and your family. Your political career is now over and you should step down.

  26. GKR says:

    FATHER's DAY- perfect timing.

GET OUT, so we can move on- you lying creep. Just another Clinton, Spitzer, the list goes on and on.

  27. GodHelpUsAll says:

What he did may be wrong, however I don't feel destroying his innocent family is right. Especially when you have a whole congress full of criminals that still have their jobs. It's hard to come out and admit to wrong doings to the media, he said he was stepping down, so let's give him credit for that and move on to things we know are much worse, behind closed doors. DC is full of them. I see pelosi didn't have the guts to step down for her evilness. How about barney, biden, and of course obama, and on and on and on?

    • Zymogene says:

It's truely amazing at how impure so many in Congress are. A good majority couldn't pass a background check for McDonalds, or aren't held to the same standards they are making laws for us to abide by. Many don't even seem to think there's anything WRONG with it….it's just status quo and way government runs.

      • SheriS says:

No, is is not just Congress–it is today's society. I believes it stems from parents who enable their children to expect everything will be handed to them regardless of whether it is a necessity in the child's mind or the friends have it. Everyone expects to get what they want! If there are problems at home, it is scooped under the rug instead of being dealth with on the spot. Nanny government and entitlements have condemned this society to expect all needs will be met–come hell or high water!

    • dikurt2 says:

He's not stepping down as governor, he's leaving his position as leader of the Republican Governors Association, or Society, or whatever it's called.

Also, he is a criminal. Breaking your marital vows is a crime, against the state, and against God.

    • dominke says:

The liberals want justice for everyone but themselves. All the crooks should be aborted for the thing they have done to our country.

  28. MerNJ says:

Though I think what Sanford did was despicable and it does speak to character and he didn't respect the office in terms of misleading people about his whereabouts, I'd prefer to go back to the days where affairs were kept secret. I'm so tired of all these politican's sex scandals and what disturbs me more is that those who are halfway decent leaders are pushed out of office while the real problems are allowed to stay (Barney Frank). I would not have a problem with pushing them out of office if it were done consistantly.

  29. wacveteran says:

His actions were for self-gratification; it's obvious he has no concern for the Republican party or Americans.
I would rather have seen him stay in Argentina.

  30. NancyNurse says:

Disgusting! Why can't our public officials keep their pants zipped until their term is over? Cheating on a spouse, lying, and sneaking around are as sinful as murder in my book.

    • beckgether says:

Ohhh Nancy not that bad! I think I get your point though. I do think our leaders will meet the bar we set for them. If we don't expect much out of them, we won't get much out of them. Right now it seems like most Americans think they can't be trusted and trust a stranger on the street more any day of the week. Our leaders are living up to it. WOW, disgusting isn't it?

    • OldMarine says:

Remember: " Power is the great aphrodisiac. "…Henry A. Kissinger

  31. GKR says:

    He said WAY TOO MUCH.

I think he is in fantasy land.

  32. bawnyfwank says:

I like the Judge's take on this yesterday while filling in for Glenn.
He said does the fact that Thomas Jefferson had children with his slaves tarnish the good that he did. Of course it does not. The Governor is a good Governor. He's just not a good Husband.

The Republicans are their own worst enemy. They should have learned by now to put the gun away and quit firing it into their own feet.

    • gk4freedom says:

You are absolutely right. Many of our past Presidents had affairs, both Democratic and Republican. We should take our lesson on this from King David, and Bathsheeba in the Bible…yes, David confessed and asked forgiveness but still paid dearly, (as will Gov Sanford) but he was still a friend of God, and his people loved him in spite of his infidelity. Great post bawnyfwank.

      • SheriS says:

The last great marriage hypocrite was John F. Kennedy who spent his life with other women. Yet he was loved and adored by most of America. To top it all off, it was always blamed on Jackie who seemed to have been preggers most of her married life all while JFK was out having his good times. Seems men with brains also have self esteem problems that are only met with a mistress. We see it over and over–adored by the public, but not happy with their wives or their relationship but don't have the guts to get a divorce. Take a look at Teddy Kennedy–his life has been nothing but affairs with other women and one got killed because of her affair with him–Teddy got off scott free and went on to become a Senator–guess those things don't matter to the public who elect these people in spite of their flaws!

  33. Jerseygal says:

Sanford's actions have compromised his integrity, and our country cannot afford this just now. The Democrat double standard will destroy the man further if he does not step down as Gov.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone…………..

No stones cast here, just suggestions for what is best for our country, and for the Gov.'s family. The sooner he is out of the spotlight, the faster the healing can begin.

    • Shadrach says:

I agree with you Jerseygal. Things are happening fast and furious in our country and putting salt in the wound doesn't help anything!!

      • Jerseygal says:

Thank you. The media will feed on this as long as there is any public interest, and the left will use that public interest as just another distraction, and try to paint the entire party with the Sanford brush. Sanford's family needs to begin healing, SC needs to begin healing, the GOP needs to move on and away from this. It happened, he confessed (finally), so let's move forward.

  34. Jaopfer says:

I feel sorry for his wife and sons, but he is a low life and a hyprocrite. He is not doing the job properly, and he has to go!

  35. RNHunter says:

I know people wont like what I say here, and certainly not the ladies, but I just dont care much what politicians do in their spare time. I care how they lead when at work or when pressed into work. And no I am not being poltiical. I thought the Bill Clinton thing was a waste of time as well, as was Watergate. Political parties spying on each other, Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My !! While many say they want separation of Church and State, they lie. Even though I am religious, I would like there to be that seperation. That seperation also means, however, that the ACLU should not sue religious people – the government should say – not my job, religion is outside of the law.

  36. knutjb says:

It's time for him to go, the right does have some scruples. If he were a Dem the left would be tripping over themselves to defend the poor guy, just look at their caucus.

I really don't care about the details, it's for him and his wife. Historically there have been many cases like this with great leaders. This doesn't make him a bad Governor, just a screwed up husband. For the Left to cry wolf is well beyond hypocritical, he certainly is no Blago…

  37. Eric_LHC_AZ says:

I'm tired of anyone in either party accepting lack of moral character in their government officials. Why do we have to compromise? The problem is anyone with strong moral character would have to have their head examined if they decide to get into that political cage match .

  38. Dustyluv says:

I loved what he stood for…But go away. We need people of integrity. We need people who say what they mean and mean what they say. We don't need Bill Clintons and we don't need Barney Franks. I understand the frailty of man, but I also know you can keep it in your pants too. If you can't, be a lousey Lib Dem where it does not matter. Stay out of the conservative movement.

Goodbye Mr Sanford. You gave the Conservative movement another black eye as well as killing the spirit of your wife and kids. We will survive. I hope they can…They deserve better than you..

  39. What is the point of printing this 'dime novel' for the entire world to read? I watched this man bare his ugly story today. I couldn’t make up my mind if we were witness to a brag session or a completely broken man. He rambled on and on, telling the story with what, at times, appeared to be a need for everyone to know the details, as though he wanted to share something very special and wonderful ..so that we could understand how he came to this end. On the other hand, perhaps he was simply looking for a lifeline. I agree with all here who grieve for the children and their mother. The pain has to be unbearable.

  40. Rahthrae says:

If these emails were sent using state computers perhaps it is news that correspndence took place on them. I really do not appreciate a paper or news station publicizing this type of crap for the sake of ratings or any other business profit via sensationalizing another's tragedy. Good God. You think people could extend at least some compassion to his wife and kids that will now have to live with this kind of detailed information being forever open to public scrutiny and comment. It is bad enough they have to suffer with the public indignities their father forced upon them. His wife and kids will now see these words, and perhaps hear these words spoken in the news as if they didn't already have enough personal problems to contend with. The media now punishes and emotionally tortures his family which deserved none of this, and did nothing wrong. Utterly despicable. I feel so sorry for his family.

  41. Jerseygal says:

Well, other 'stars' in the Republican party can now shine even brighter.

At least he did not have his wife standing there beside and slightly behind him while he was addressing the issue to the public, as Elliott Spitzer (Spitzonya) did.

For the benefit of his family, he should step down as SC Governor.

  42. pslwd says:

I am very disappointed in yet another politician with shaky or maybe no moral values. My heart goes out to his wife and children.

  43. dikurt2 says:

Governor Sanford had better be impeached, on the grounds of dereliction of duty.

  44. floridagal says:

    Okay. enough already…. he's done. NEXT….. ?????

  45. Torquemada9 says:

I am always amazed by the forgiving nature of people regarding extra-marital affairs from politicians. In the realm of private business between a husband and wife we have zero business commenting on the affair. From a philosophical standpoint this is a great indicator of a person and their ethics. When a politician is caught cheating on a spouse they should resign as their true character has been recognized and compromised. A man who betrays the sanctity of his own vows and disregards the effects of his own behavior on those he is closest to and cares most for is not someone who should be in charge of the welfare of any constituency. The trait exhibited is selfishness. Rest assured, public perception aside, that the motives for any action enacted by a selfish person are for personal gain. Regardless of political affiliation any politician caught in such a scandal deserves to be thrown out of office if no resignation is tendered. Anything else represents acceptance of this trait, selfish self interest, and the consequent condoning of any repercussions upon the constituency stemming from it.

I agree. Gov. Sanford, when you lie and cheat in your private life, you are bound to be held suspect in your public one. No one will ever trust you again. Resign!

    • Jerseygal says:

It would appear that the Republican Party is the party that takes a dim view of this sort of behavior among its own members. The Democrats are all-forgiving, and say it does not matter – it's personal and has nothing to do with the offender's ability to conduct gov't business. Just goes to show that the Dems have much lower standards.

      • Torquemada9 says:

Absolutely. I am originally from NJ and was visiting family when the McGreevey scandal broke. They didn't care at all that the guy misrepresented who he was and lied to and cheated on his family. Amazingly enough, I just got back from visiting NJ again and was there when both the Ensign and Sanford scandals broke. My relatives, life long Dimwitcrats did not care about the cheating at all. They all considered it inconsequential as long as the politician is doing " a good job". Insane. They all need to go when caught.

    • dominke says:

Bill Clinton cheated in the white house and congress did nothing. Do we have a double standard in our society? What sanford did was wrong but should we force him out when Clinton did the same thing and lied about it?

      • Katrinka says:

That is moral relativism, and it is one of our country's more virulent plagues. If we really want our politicians to represent us, we have to expect (and demand) more of our public servants.

  46. weezo says:

Yes, think of the boys who now have a failure for a father. Oh, I'm sure he will provide monetary support – the court will make him. But, how can he again look in their eyes and tell them he knows what is best. How can he share with them the virtues of fidelity and standing for what you say? And, he did it on Father's Day – a day when boys should connect with their fathers and learn what it is to be a man. This man is teaching all the wrong things to his sons.

Unfortunately, after his show of tears for the press, he will probably get down and dirty with his sons and tell them all about the thrills involved. Just what we need in this country is four more adolescent boys without a moral compass!

Way to go, Sanford and Sons!

  47. Kontora says:

Wow. I'm not even sure if this has to do with anything at all. Elliot Spitzer is kind of old news so why bring his name up? I think let's focus on the SC governor and ask the tough questions, like why didn't he appoint an Lt. governor on his leave and who's money spent on the vacation!

This is what's more important than the affair.

    • Torquemada9 says:

The affair does show a lack of trust to his family first and his actions show a lack of trust to his constituents. Glaring ethical indicators. The affair matters as well. He needs to resign, just as former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey resigned and my current Senator John Ensign(NV), who let me down tremendously, needs to resign. Sanford should be held accountable on the money and leave as well. Like your train of thought though.

      • SheriS says:

It seems you have left out a very important word. The Senator apologized to his family and the citizens of his state. Somewhere for those Bible quoters that seem to be "throwing stones", there is also a great deal about forgiveness. Admit your sin and you will be forgiven! Perhaps the people of South Carolina need to live up to the standards they are applying to the Governor!

    • GKR says:

      WHO CARES about the details?

He lied, he cheated, GET HIM OUT OF THERE, NOW!

Character matters-we need to hold all of these creeps accountable.

    • GodHelpUsAll says:

He already said he's stepping down. However the crooks on the hill spending our money every single day, still have their jobs. They spend money on things we DO know, and much on things we don't. I think we should focus our attention on those liars on the hill, rather than one who already admitted it. That's the difference in this governor….he has guts. Let's move on people….geesh!

    • Katrinka says:

He is only stepping down as the chairman of the Republican Governors' Association.

He butt should be kicked from the Office of Governor. That's a break not only with his family, but the public trust. The people of SC deserve answers to those questions.

      • SheriS says:

Gee, I guess you are perfect and have never committed anything that would be embarrassing to your family! Perfection must be a lonely place.

    • OldMarine says:

The difference is normally a conservative messes up, he steps down. When a Dem does something its career enhancer. Double standard at its best from the left.

  48. Boopster says:

Publishing theses emails serves no purpose. Gov. Sanford’s children will someday read about their Father and his history, why continue to hurt the innocent. It is not necessary to read or hear all the details.

    • A voice of reason amidst the condemnation. He made some grievous errors in judgment for certain. Publishing the e-mails and anything else with regard to this is counter for any healing the family may require. To sit in judgment of him falls to only one. We do not know everything with regard to his relationship with his family and we do not need to.

    • Zymogene says:

I was shocked about the e-mails being released as well. I mean in one breath there were those saying too much detail when he said them, yet even with all the details, there's those who still have to dig deeper. I mean for what purpose? He was honest enough to the public and exposing the e-mails serves nothing except additional things to hurt his wife and kids with.

    • DodgerDog says:

Publishing the emails feeds our TMZ nation. Our country wants to read all the little details. I don't like it but that seems to be how it is. It's just a matter of time before pictures of his mistress start popping up. Reporters have already found her house and spoken to her even though she refuses to speak with them. The pressure is going to start building on the mistress and she may eventually feel compelled to have to say something.

I do agree with Boopster. His kids will someday read those emails. Hopefully they will be able to handle what they read. This will do some serious damage to them for years to come.

      • SheriS says:

You obviously chose to read those emails which makes you no better then Fox or the SC newspaper that printed them. This is the most disgusting thing I've heard since yesterday morning. Voyeurism abounds in this society. I keep thinking of the pain his wife and children are going thru right now. The Governor is in a lot of pain as well, but he is at fault and has to live with that.

  49. Boojer says:

Does this ever stop?? This just shows the lack of moral values in this country!

    • detestObama says:

Boojer; I concur. The United States is falling from grace with each generation that passes. Our children, by an alarming rate, by a high percentage, are not brought to church by their parents anymore, and are not taught about the Bible, and its meaning in life. The Bible teaches all of us to be just, and moral living people, and to understand that we, by ourselves can not conquer sin of any form, be it sex, power, greed, feeling better then others, etc. without the teachings from the Bible.
I read a survey a couple of days ago, that the younger people are leaving the church by a 2 out of every 3 ratio!
This is very disturbing, we are becoming a country of athists. People are in a me, my, I world, that only center on ourselves, leaving our children to fend for themselves. What would you expect?

      • 1776time says:

detestObama, I left the church because I use to believe it was supposed to be like a hospital where we went to get healed
and lift each other up when we fall. Most of the churches I went to were filled with perfect saints. Got tired of feeling like I was the only one that failed sometimes. Sort of like the attitude that some of these critical 912ers have. We all have skeletons in our closets. It would be interesting what one would see if we held some of these critical 912ers up to God's light.

    • knutjb says:

We are all flawed, there are NO perfect people on this planet. We always think our generation is falling into the abyss faster and harder than any other in history. It's not, I have seen atheist go to church and return their life to equilibrium. I expect church's to grow during this troubled time. Few things bring people back to the things that really matter, motivated by a miserable economy.

    • NancyNurse says:

I agree! Our morals in this country (both parties) are in the gutter.

  50. Travelover says:

I'm totally convinced ALL politicians think with what's in their pants. Get some power, prestige and celebrity and it goes right to their libido. It happens to Democrats, Republicans and Independents. And it's NOT just in America. Bad enough the affairs and the neglect of their duties, but must we be subjected to their tearful "confessions" and sickening apologies too? Once someone runs for office, it should be manditory something is attached to his body that will give him an electric JOLT should he even THINK of straying. It is NOT about YOU and your URGES – you dolts! It's about us and our kids and our country!

  51. With all the things that will destroy our country, this is not one of them, lets get down to work on real problems.

    • beckgether says:

If people are in a position of leadership, then they need to "lead." Or get the heck out of the way and let someone do it that is willing to dedicate a few years of their life to their country. Which is why it should not be a career job. Perhaps it is asking too much of a person to put the country first for that long. Step the heck down!!! If you are in a position of power and you set yourself up for blackmail, YES that does involve the rest of the country. You bet it does. Good thing John Edwards never made president, he probably would of sold us all out.

      • I do agree with you on that but, this is a state issue, Not a national issue, I don’t care if someone has an affair. If the state has a problem with him he will be thrown out of office.

    • Torquemada9 says:

Respectful disagreement. Politicians lacking in a strong moral and ethical foundation are an enormous threat from within. As long as politicians act in accordance with primacy to self-interest as opposed to the interests of their constituencies we will continue to suffer as a nation.

      • (Politicians lacking in a strong moral and ethical foundation are an enormous threat from within.)

You got that right but show me one that only stands on principle, I pray for an honest politician but they are run out of DC in short order. It has been said “The only thing worst than a politician is a child molester”

    • I guess I would not take issue with your comment, but…he ran on conservative principles. He also used his family as a "selling" point, and that's part of what the voters "bought". If he is morally compromised, then what else might he be compromised on?

From a perspective of morality, today's relative morals continue their slide, and we've become jaded. Jokes about Clintons womainzing didn't stop him from the presidency, nor did it prevent him from being reelected. The guy may be smart, but he is also human trash. I would hate to lump Sanford in with him. To compare Spitzer to Sanford, as the headline does is unfair. Spitzer…..sigh. The differences btwn these 3 is that Sanford admitted it, was heartbroken, whereas Clinton and Spitzer… I can't cast stones.

A commonly defined morality as it stands today is a key issue, but one that the government, nor the politicians are able to live to. It's why Roe v Wade is the law of the land, why there is great debate on gay "marriage", why drugs usage is mostly decriminalized…..and on and on

      • Jerseygal says:

lunarman, the comparison you make between 2 Dems and 1 Repub illustrates the double standard. Repubs want the moral order that made this country great, and Dems do not care about that, as you reference Clinton's reelection. So we should all ask ourselves – do we want a civil moral order in our nation as our founders crafted, or do we want the feel-good lib amoral society? And vote accordingly. We are still a largely moral nation.

    • waitaminute says:

I understand your point but at the center of all our problems is the moral decline of our nation. I am very disappointed in this man. As soon as you see someone you think you can get behind and support, something like this comes to the surface.

Do the liberals send gorgeous women out just to trip these guys up or what?

      • tehee says:

Did you see the movie "The Firm"? LOL That was kind of the premise of the movie. Thats how they locked politicians in to their pockets. Blackmail……

    • gk4freedom says:

I agree with you DennisCPO, there are 525 people at the top of the food chain in Washington whom we trust to get things done. My guess is…many of those could not pass the 'morality' or 'principle' test here. Many more most likely are having an aduterous affair akin to Gov. Sanfords'….they just haven't been caught yet…don't think that the lack of morality in the general population somehow does not find it's way to the Governor's mansion, congress….or even the White House. This is a problem that we, as a nation, helped to foment when we took God, prayer, and the Ten Commandments out of the public arena…what do we expect?

  52. gk4freedom says:

Well….this obviously was not the R@R I was hoping the Governor was taking…having said that, you just never REALLY know another person until you have walked in their shoes. This type of infidelity has been going on since Genesis; I am not condoning this behavior, merely saying that we are human beings, who make mistakes from time to time. I for one, cannot throw my stone, as I have made many myself. May God heal their family, I have three sons of my own, and I feel for them (the four Sanford boys).

  53. beckgether says:

As I'm sure they will. He did step down today as chairman of some "national" organization of governors! Also, wasn't he considering running for president? At least his name was being tossed around. Now it is tossed out.

  54. Jerseygal says:

He likely will be 'pressed' to step down. Republicans tend to be quite a bit tougher than the Dems on their own members.

  55. gsteinbacher says:

He said he never counted anything out as far as a run for the presidency goes but he was looking forward to retiring and getting back into the buisiness world. I believe he never would have run for president because of this, he knew it would all come out in the long run. This could also be one of the reasons he was not picked as McCains running mate, he declined knowing that he had already commited political suicide and did not want to hurt McCains chance.

  56. My point is that South Carolina voted him in office, I don’t live there so, I don’t have a dog in the hunt. We have national issues that may destroy our lives with in months look around we are in trouble and this is a state issue.
I do find his action totally unacceptable but he is not responsible to me, my home is Florida, leave it to the state.

  57. SheriS says:

There is one little flaw that jumps out to me as I read your post. Dems didn't condemn Clinton for his escapades in the White House, but harrassed Republicans for thinking it was morally wrong. Dems can do anything–remember John F. Kennedy and all his mistresses in the White House, Teddy Kennedy and all his crap that was public–he is still in office! DOUBLE STANDARDS ABOUND IN THE DEM PARTY, BUT THEY WANT TO CRUCIFY REPUBLICANS WHEN SOMEONE APPEARS IN PRINT CONCERNING REPUBLICAN MORALS!

  58. Jerseygal says:

Thanks for further illustrating the double standard – moral conduct does not matter to Dems, and it does (or is supposed to) to Repubs. Dems will defend the amoral conduct of their own, yet seize on any Repub who strays because the Repubs have a moral order foundation to their party. Dems seize on this and politicize it by saying Rs are hypocritical. Rs do not want to be hypocritical, so the amoral R is 'pressed' to resign, or is voted out. Dems seem to not only cover for, but actually reward their members who stray. Just one more stark difference.

  59. beckgether says:

This is begining to sound like the teenager that says "but" all the time. But… all my friends are doing it…but at least I'm not smoking..but..but.. Forgive Clinton? Oh please. When did he ask for it? I missed it. You are right about forgiveness. We do it for ourself as much as the other person. It is very healing. But being sorry is much more than a word, it is the action that follows. Time will tell.

  60. detestObama says:

1776time; Where you went to get healed "Spirtually". You have to look around, and "shop" sometimes for a church that will fill your needs. We all fail from time to time, you are just one of us, that needs the word of God, so keep going to other churches, there is one that will fill your needs!
Christians have flaws just like everyone. I know what you are talking about, when you say people think they are perfect saints. I personally think a Christian would be a humbling Individual, that understand the needs of fellow Christians, and I am upset when one thinks they are pure with out sin, because that is a sin in itself! We should not feel superior to another, just feel blessed that by the grace of God, I am a true Christian! Remember, we all fail from time to time, it is human nature.

  61. jpehrlich says:

Erhhh..it is God who forgives our sins….it is also God who gave us the 10 Commandments not the 10 Suggestions. He gave us the basis for order not chaos. Sins have consequences in real life. Apologizing is a necessary step but it does NOT short circuit the aftermath. Sadly the victim here firstly is Gov. Sanford's family. However he also mis-used his office by using public vehicles and funds during his "peccadillos".

  62. Jerseygal says:

We all witness the Dems double standard, either close up or from afar, yet the Dems will deny it vehemently. If it weren't for their gov't give-away programs, the party would be nowhere.

  63. Katrinka says:

No one is perfect, as you are so astute at pointing out.
I'm not looking for perfection, I'm looking for someone who upholds the standards that they claim to believe. He actually used public money to go down there last year.
This guy is a dirtbag. Clinton was a dirtbag, Gingrich was a dirtbag, Hart was a dirtbag, along with all the other dorks who couldn't keep their pants zipped. Moral relativism doesn't work on me with either party.
It all a part of their belief that they're entitled to do things that the 'little people' should know or care about.
You may be a cheerleader of his, and he may be 'repentant', but that's between his family and God. Part of repentance is reparation for the wrong done. Is going to pay back the money? How will he rebuild the public trust?

  64. Katrinka says:

You are right on target. This is a state issue, we are fighting for the survival of the Country.

  66. gsteinbacher says:

I am from SC and I say let him finish out his term and disapear into the night. He is a great leader but his morals have been corupted

  67. bawnyfwank says:

Yep. It's all about who is doing what at the moment. I know that Glenn thinks that it does matter. And to a point it does. But does that mean he is a bad Governor. I dont think so. But he is done. Too bad really
