    Well…..

    Didn't see THAT one coming….!

What is it with politicians, anyway?

  2. the difference between a republican and a democrat is the republicans wish it was the fourth of July all year and the democrats wish it was April 15 all year long. which one do you want to be?

  3. dikurt2 says:

He's really not that great after all.

What a shame that he's been cheating on his wife, and he left her and his four sons at home on Father's Day to be with his mistress.

  4. jl43 says:

Well, it's now June 24. And the governor has now admitted to an affair with a woman from Argentina.
I must say… it IS his business. But I am disappointed in him. Personally, I rate his "political values" high. But his "moral values" low.

  5. Tracer says:

In an earlier post, I said that I thought this was a smear; unfortunately I was wrong — or was I? The Gov. was clearly doing something wrong, but I also find it odd the way the press hammered him before supposedly knowing what was going on. I believe his extra marital activities were leaked and that is why there was this frantic search for him. I feel sorry for his family and I hope that the press will leave them alone at least. I do not excuse his behavior, but the press should leave his wife and kids alone.

  6. Goo says:

Looks as though the Governor has been involved in an affair, which his family has known about for the past 5 months. Does the weirdness ever end in this country?

  7. dikurt2 says:

Governor Sanford left his wife and four children–over Father's Day, of all days–to fly to South America without telling anyone. The governor was in Argentina, not on the AT, as was incorrectly reported by his own staff. The thing that people should really think about, is: How does the Chief Executive of an American state leave the country, completely unnoticed?

These actions are reprehensible. Not because he took a vacation, but because he told no one of his plans. Remember folks, this is an elected official; he must answer to his constituency. The people of South Carolina have every right to know of their governor's whereabouts–or, at the very least, his agenda. Governor Sanford was essentially AWOL. I don't know about you, but where I work, if you don't show up to the job for several days, then you may as well not come back.

Also, I'm not married, but if I were, I can guarantee that I wouldn't be able to take a 17 hour flight to the southern hemisphere over Father's Day weekend, without my wife knowing.

  8. Tntsgram says:

How very sad that Governor Sanford got caught up in an affair. Sad for him, his family, and his constituents. It is unfortunate that he did not put the Lt Gov in charge before he left to go to Argentina, that was possibly his biggest mistake. I am not surprised that he has been under so much scrutiny and pressure, that he would make such a disasterous decision. Hopefully, things will get back on track for him, however, the Dems and people against him will not let this go, ever….

  9. tehee says:

Texan here living in the North for many years now. The one thing I notice that is different is in the south we like to ponder on it for a time before we act. In the North we act and then we think about it:O)

But in the end I think everyone everywhere is sick of the same thing and the same old politics.

    • OldMarine says:

Believe me, I never thought I'd ever feel the way I've been feeling about the government, both sides, as I am now. I never suspected that our Great Country and its sheeple would ever elect a president based on race and class warfare. I would never believe that an elected President and officials would work so hard to destroy the American way of life, and the sheeple say nothing, do nothing. Sometimes, I wonder why I spent 14 years of my life defending these ungrateful, self centered, selfish sheeple.

  10. detestObama says:

Gov. Mark Sanford is an avid hiker, and loves getting out by himself for a short time, and be with nature for a while to clear his head of all the politics that surrounds him constantly. Good for him! If he told where he was, he could be hounded by the people that he wants to get away from for a little time!
Obama goes all over the earth, and says slanderous things about America, and his predecessor, and on the taxpayers dime ( More like hundreds-of-millions of dollars), and no one seems to care, because we are trying to figure how pay for it!

  11. The New Regime Is having the Country to play with and we are letting it happen. People say we can't do anything about it. The answer is, " Yes we can". We need to support TEA parties, We need to move the Voting Base from all parties to see the Truth that the Socialist Liberals are destorying this country by using our own system and getting away with it. The real Sons and Daughters of Constitutional Liberty need to look beyond talk and mobilize in action to defeat the current Regime by defeating them in the 2010 Elections and taking back our freedoms established by the Founding Fathers. We have Czars appointed by leftist thinking people who think America is not the nation of Freedom for all peoplebut that it has come at a price set by patriots. The Truth is that the Younger generations have missed the true value of the God, Morality and ethics, Working hard and having pride in the American flag. I call to all true Americans to fight now using the present system to change the balance of our nation in the political area that makes our nation great.

  12. TJwasright says:

If Gov. Sanford was a Democrat, the environmentalists would be cheering him on for taking a "green" mini-vacation instead of jetting to a far away destination. Will we ever get rid of the media's double-standard???

  13. Tntsgram says:

Like I said earlier; he probably has a personal phone for his family only, and knew exactly what was going on in the office. His wife wasn't worried because she knew where he was and why he was there; he deserves and has earned a break and some time off.

  14. OldMarine says:

    Part 2:
Also, a big deal is being that he did it on Father's Day, did it dawn on anyone, that maybe his family, pitched in and THIS was his Father's Day gift. Alot of wives know their husbands better then the husbands know themselves, and realized that he needed a break, so this is your Father's Day present, "Get out, get away, relax, and behavior yourself. Have Fun and be careful" But what do I know, if I was suppose to have a wife, the Corps would have issued me one out of Boot Camp.

  15. OldMarine says:

Well, frankly WTHC. If he wanted to take some time off, let him. If he is meeting a mistress, well hope his wife finds out. If he can take a vacation, and be available if needed, he is doing his job, let TASS do what TASS does, demonize a conservative. At least he isn't costing the people of SC a couple hundred thousand dollars by flying to NY and having a "date night" with his wife. I bet he isn't holding up a broadway show for an hour. But, I guess its different for Democrats and their chosen one. If the Governor was meeting with Jesus, then TASS would demonize it, and the ACLU would be suing, face it America, if a Republican does something its demonized, if a Dem does it, it is ok so why worry about it, the pendelum will swing back, one way or another, and the shoe will be on the other foot. People of SC, this is your discission, you all make up you minds on what you want to do about this and your Governor.
    See part 2 Please

  16. Gary_Shaw says:

I wish that the President would take a long two or three day hike on a nice trail and stop and think about what he is doing to this country. Sometimes a person is served well by down time and introspection to sort things out. Of course for that to work one must be honest with themselves if no one else.

  17. RNHunter says:

Mark Twain once remarked about a man with two sons: One went to sea, the other became vice president, and neither was heard of again. If he were a vice president, we still would not know his whereabouts.

  18. CarolEWash says:

O.K. 912er's. Now you know what you will be up against when you run for office. Are you going to be able to with stand this crap? I applaude both Sanford and Palin for what they have had to endure so far. We have to think Congress also not just 2012 but we need to get elected in 2010 to start with. This has to be turned around.

  19. Boopster says:

Good grief! After 5 months of this Administration. Who doesn’t need, a little physical and mental break. Of course, they attack Gov. Sandford , even though he advised his staff and family he would be unavailable, but in touch. State Senate Minority Leader John Land, a Democrat, accused Sanford of engaging in "erratic" behavior.
"We've been concerned by the governor's erratic behavior for some time," Land said in a prepared statement. "We're praying for him and his family. I hope he is safe and that he contacts the first lady and his family soon."

  20. Fox News just reported that the Governor has been hiking on the Appalachian Trail for a few days to clear his head and that he is cutting his trip short. I have to admit I did find it odd that he went away during Father's Day and that no one knew where he was. In hind-sight he really should have informed the Lieutenant-Gov that he would be away for a few days and that he would be in charge until he got back. It also appears that there is no love lost between the Governor and his Lieutenant-Gov and it was the LT.-Gov who made a big deal about this whole thing. Maybe the No.-2 guy is trying to make some political hay out of this for the next election. I can see the TV commercial now; "Where was Gov Sanford when we needed him most? Out hiking while people lost their jobs, putting his needs before the people of SC…….blah, blah, blah". You can't even take a few days off anymore without someone trying to use it against you.

    • OldMarine says:

Did it ever dawn on you, that his family may have pitched in the money and this WAS his Father's Day gift.

      • No it didn't dawn on me because reports said his wife didn't know where he was. It stands to reason that if you are pitching in to send someone somewhere that you would know where that person was going.

    • Tntsgram says:

Oh I will betcha' the Lt Gov knew where he was; but then politicians will slit each other's throats in a NY heartbeat. You are right on believing the LT Gov made the big deal; he is also probably behind the talking about the Gov using a car.

    • TJinVa says:

Someone on the radio today said they wished the media would try as hard to find Obama's birth certificate as they have been trying to find Gov. Sanford.

    • beckgether says:

Sounds like the LT.-Gov. sure isn't up to the job of being Governor. Best they know that now I guess since a cry baby would not be in anyone's best interest.

  21. I think the Govenor deserve's time to get away and introspect, as does everyone else. I am a resident of South Carolina and along time supporter of the Govenor.

  22. Tntsgram says:

The dems and MSM have spent so much time beating up on the good politicians, such as Palin and Sanford and others, trying to eliminate the bigger threats to their party and policies. They (the dems and MSM) have wasted much time and effort to discredit these folks, all because they were able to say no to BO. They managed to discredit them with their own constituents in a lot of cases. Personally, I did donate to Governor Palin's defense fund, now the dems and leftists are trying to take that money away from her, saying she is accepting gifts of money for personal gain. How do we stop this madness??? I don't know, but I do know it just makes me sick.

    • uuuggh says:

whos msm? So many are just shaking our heads & wondering what we do to stop this. I've been writing & calling legislators but if I hear anything from Democrats, it's nonresponsive–"spending" my money is "good" and boot licking for Obama.

  23. AuntieJ says:

Why is it ok for B.O. to take time away from his very important job to continue to "campaign" all over the country and the world? Does he not realize that he won the election? Leave it to the biased media to turn some necessary "down time" into something sinister….Mark Sanford is one of the up and coming strong Republicans, so the B.O. bought media is trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Conservatives need to take a page from the liberal play book…..start slamming prominent liberals with every misstep, or imagined misstep….Conservatives need a network now to promote our causes. Glad the site is back! Thanks for everything the 912ers are doing!

  24. scgirl says:

The man was just getting away after all he's had to fight against. I am sure he needed to think and wanted quiet. Maybe he was spending some time praying. You know there are still some politicians that do that. CNN and many news outlets are going to make him look like a weirdo or mentally incompetent. Gov. Sanford has more sense in his pinky than the whole bunch in Washington. His wife probably knew exactly where he was and just because she was asked does not mean she had to tell. I hope to see him run in 2012, if we make it that far.

  25. Jackjr60 says:

I think this man is so sick of what he is seeing Obama do that he had to get away or go mad. I am not in politics but I am about to go mad from seeing what Obama is doing to our country. How much worse it must be, to be close to this political nightmare every day. The MSM will try their best to ruin this man. It is up to folks like us to make sure that they do not.

  26. TJinVa says:

Ah, the good 'ol drive-by media is at it again. They are making something out of nothing, they are going to "George Allen" Governor Sanford, they are trying to take him out early.

    • uuuggh says:

Yep but when Jesse jackson used kikes, stole Rainbow Coalition money, vacationed (on stolen $$) with his bimbo & called Obama n & wanted his "balls cut off" all was hushed & what did get out was forgiven.

  27. lisale says:

Most gifted, serious people I know do need time away from others to decompress. It's a requirement for them to process the insanity around them and stay sane themselves. I worry about politicians who don't need to shut down from time to time. That tells me they thrive on the corruption, deceit, self-interest and pragmatism that surrounds them. I much prefer this very human "erratic" response to political life over a self-promoting 24/7 career politician–don't you?

  28. Ohiowoman says:

Why is this anyone's business? The man took a much needed break from the stress he's been under from the legislature and the Lt Gov, who has his own agenda. It really is ridiculous to think that we have the right to know what this guy is doing 24/7. He's entitled to some private time.

  29. gk4freedom says:

My guess is the Governor is getting some much needed R@R…something we all need from time to time. What better way than taking in the quiet solitude of a nature hike along the beautiful Appalachian Trail. How would you like to stand by your convictions against the onslaught of Obama's administration, the MSM, and the left-wing of the Governor's state? Men of conviction are hard to find these days.

    • Zymogene says:

I agree. I don't blame him one bit, to need to step out of the public eye and have some quite time to reflect. For the life of me, I think it would be horrid, to just want one a moments peace and have someone hiding in the bushes to take a pic to see if I pick my nose or not, in order to prove I'm accessable. I think he's a great man and just needed a break…..and the opposition is trying to make it "strange or irratic behavior", and something out of nothing.

  30. Freedom2010 says:

I wonder what the consequences are for saying "NO" to Obama?Let's review: The Alinsky method: ""Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

  31. Rahthrae says:

Wow, if you are a conservative going on a hike to just get away for a bit, you are exhibiting erratic behavior. They try to imply he is illegally using state vehicles for personal use. The legislature is exasperated because the safety of the people is at risk! They act like this guy needs to carry his office with him in his rucksack for a hike. The legislature out there apparently 'doesn't know' the chain of command if the governor can't be reached. The man goes on a hike, and these people use it as an opportunity to do a hack job on him in the media who seems very happy to help because he dared say no to…THE ONE! These are the people that are representing the people's interest, and deciding how to spend that stimulus money they circumvented the governor's wishes to get. These morons are pathetic. Our republic is very sick folks. It's sad. We've got a lot of work to do to get it fixed.

  32. beckgether says:

Governor Sanford is an American hero. God bless him.

  33. Tracer says:

It seems like a weak attempt to smear the Gov. to me.

    • Zymogene says:

Agreed. He's rocking the boat and we must find something "wrong" with him. After-all…..if you don't comply as directed, something must be wrong with you.

    • Tntsgram says:

Oh and believe me, the smear campaign will get all the press, just to sully the Governor's reputation.

  34. allanhitch says:

Maybe I'm losing my mind but I don't really see anything "erratic" about his behavior….

So what if the guy drops off radar for a few hours, or a few days, on a regular basis? Somehow, I think this is a non-story. So the guy bugs-out every so often to get away from the public eye. Big deal….

I think his wife did a good job of not ratting him out! Looks more like the media's ticked off that they didn't have their thumb on him…

    • Tntsgram says:

Nope you're not losing your mind, I'm certain his wife knew exactly where he was. He probably has another cell phone just for family; something he is entitled to.

  35. lisboncaine says:

    With regard to Rogers_Sense comment.

You know, I understand a person's desire to couch the conflict in the the traditional terms of North and South. For those of us from the South…that tradition is still alive in many ways.

But you must come to terms with what Reconstruction accomplished….#1, it guaranteed that there would always be a degree of malevolence for the North by the South…and #2, it guaranteed that no such regional, cultural nor political movement could ever be repeated….anywhere. Quite simply and frankly…it erased our political culture and our political heritage and was, in large part responsible for the Progressive movement that was to come.

    It opened the door.

There are progressives from the South, now , just as well. They are the sons and daughters of who we know as the "carpetbaggers".

The problem with regionalizing this in our own dialogue is that it tends to charge the conversation racially, and it plays into the hands of the other side. While it is true that the South sought secession for as many economic reasons as cultural….it cannot be ignored…the gross hypocrisy of demanding freedom.for some…while withholding it, forcefully from others. It tends to invalidate every other reason and right the South had to secede, many of which were valid…and Constitutionally correct.

Revisionist history and television and movies have simply erased the finer points of the Calhoun – Webster debates…those whose motives were not pure damned the cause from the beginning….further I can find no way a thinking man desirous of freedom could have been so cheap as to simply not remove the slavery issue….from the beginning and for good.

It's weak ground from which to argue…weaker ground from which to comment. It generally tends to have the affect of justifying the other side's argument that we're all just a "bucha stupid rednecks".

I am not a stupid redneck….I doubt, sir that your are either….however why make it easy for them to dismiss us as if we were?

If our true tradition is freedom and independence from the Federal Government to the extent the Constitution outlines…would it not be far better to stand on the shoulders of our intellectual giants?…than to grovel at the feet of our knee jerk reactionaries?

It is for this that I admire the Good Governor of your state. I will be interested to see what he has to say in the coming 18 months…and I would expect to hear from him with a cogent and forceful argument for freedom…freedom for all.

I believe it is time to look at what has happened to us. Quite simply…the other side has out-thought us. Which is necessary, of course…since their arguments hold no water, they necessarily require a complex and strained logic that can only be pieced together through statistical quilt making, clever device…and the discrediting of competing ideas through the coloration of those that offer them.

Why make it easier for them?

Those that stand as giants in their movement refrain from operating on emotion….but instead they foment support for their disease by stirring it up.

It is simple….whether you want to acknowledge it or not….people tend to act in self interest….or what they are told is self interest. Socialism depends on that, actually….it is not the other way around.

The other side has simple made an intellectual argument that their method is in those voters interest. While it is intellectual clap trap….they have successfully made the argument.

You simply have to make a better one. And yours….is easier to make. Stand on the shoulders of your intellectual giants…be worthy of your heritage as free thinkers….free men and women. Refrain from vulgar talk and antagonism…not only is it useless to you…but you are loading the intellectual guns of your adversary.

Stand on the shoulders of Thomas Jefferson, John Jay, Alex de Tocqueville, Sir Edmund Burke, James Madison….read your heritage, read your ideas from the pages from which they sprung.

If you do that…not only will the South rise again, but free men and women EVERYWHERE will. Our brothers and sisters are in Columbia, SC….Detroit, MI….Redwood, CA….and yes, if we can make the argument….even on the Upper East Side of New York City.

Make the argument….don't be the argument.

….and God Bless Governor Sanford….please let us hear from you sir.

  36. mwb1951 says:

When I was working full time as a business owner, I often felt, at the end of the day, "If you're a human being and breathing, I don't like you". I didn't go incognito but I understand anyone who does! SHEESH! some people (media) sure do jump to conclusions.

  37. Brian says:

I would bet money that the Governers 4 day walk did not cost taxpayers what one night in NYC did for bho. Everyone needs to get away.

  38. bunnyma5 says:

For his stand, the Governor rises far above many in the political field today…

  39. amendment1 says:

The man went for a walk for crying out loud, albeit a long walk and he probably should have at least let his wife know. (He probably did let her know and told her to tell everyone she has no idea where he is) He was entrusted with running his state and doing what he thought was best for his state and once again the heavy hand of the federal government slammed down with yet another assault on states rights. He's pissed as well he should be! The stimulis $ is BS. The state where I come from has had to cut back repaving of roads by 2/3 because of a lack of money while our social community action programs receive millions in stimulis funds. This money was supposed to benifit all Americans and create jobs, not to little pet projects on the liberal wish list. We were promised that infrastructure projects would be a top priority of the stimulis money. Ah the old Washington 2 step, ya gotta love it.

  40. I am not even a politician and just watching the news every night I need to go for a hike on my property to clear my head. If I were in his position I would "disappear" for a while myself.

  41. Bcoultry says:

With his legislature, I'd be in the woods as well, hoping to make friends with a bear I can sick on them.

  42. Rogers_Sense says:

I have real concerns that if the northern progressives keep pushing their big spending and taxing ways the south will revolt in a few years, this country needs to get back to the old values.

    • 357ben says:

It would be more than just the south revolting!! There are many here in the mid-west. And more in the west, and south-west! Can you name the state, that DOES NOT have a growing desire for less government intervention?

    • Jerseygal says:

Do you think all 'Yankees' are tax and spend liberals? I have never lived in the south, and I have never been a liberal, nor a progressive. Even California voters defeated tax and spend programs a short time ago. The south may have many of the red states, but they have not cornered the market on conservatism.

Perhaps you did not make your position clear?

      • OldMarine says:

Yankees are big tax and spenders, particularly those living on farms in NY.

        LOL

        Just Kidding

      • 357ben says:

No I don't think all those in the North East, are tax and spend libs! But, you do have a serious infestation of them there!! And, just like roaches and locusts they strip an area of it's resources and then move on! Someone break out the bug spray!!

    • Zymogene says:

I'm a "northerner", and far from a progressive, who is sick and tired of the taxes and such….the "South" doesn't have the corner market on this, or old values or Christian values or common sense or anything else.

    • I understand what you are saying Rogers_Sense. I am originally from Massachusetts (hard to get more liberal than that outside of CA) and I have lived in Western WA since 1993 (also very liberal), but I myself have always been conservative and never believed in any part of liberalism and have never voted for a Dem in my life. I think your point is that the southern states are more conservative in numbers of people as opposed to northern states that have conservatives who are grossly outnumbered. I personally am trying to flee socialism here in WA by trying to sell my house so I can move to Oklahoma where in the first time in my life my vote may actually count for something. I also want to be in the south if a revolution does come because I will be fighting for freedom in the south where conservative numbers are strong.

  43. MerNJ says:

The man has been alone in the wilderness. Even though other governors have talked down the stimulus, they didn't have the kahunas to say NO. I guess after losing the big battle he figured it would be appropriate to actually be alone in the wilderness. Solitude in nature can be rejuvinating. Perhaps it's time he saw he has more support than he thought. I just sent an email of support to his office.

  44. Shadrach says:

Gov. Sanford had better be careful, B.O. will say he is incapable of executing his duty as Gov. and replace him, much like Inspector General Walpin!!!!

  45. Dave48763 says:

I think those that in SC should have be very, very proud of the Governor they have,,,a lot more than those who think they got free money,,,,as we all know once one looks past the amounts,,and see the COSTS,,,,as he did,,,those that opposed him will be sorry,,,very sorry if they are only elected OUT of office,,,so many jump at the easy decisions,,,without even asking WHAT IS THE COST today and a year from now,,,HISTORY will be based on facts,,,events,,,The Governor of SC has a great decision that will be upon him,,,those that opposed,,,guess who will live in history in SHAME and discrased, unemployed,,

I think Obama,Pelosi,Reid,DEMS,REPBS,,etc,, should look at what history has for them,,,,based upon fact,,,not political rhetoric,,,

  46. Bighollander says:

The Governor told his wife that he had to get away from the kids for a while so he could do some writing. I wouldn't be suprised if he comes back with some news shaking legislation!

  47. gsteinbacher says:

After finding out how hard it is to fight the BHO machine, because of the brain washed idiots in our SC government and since his term is ending. He is probably looking for a good hiding place to escape to when the country finally colapses under the BHO regime. Him and Palin would make a good match for the 2012 election not particularly sure which I would put first, more then likly Palin

  48. Barb66 says:

I think this governor sees the BHO plan for what it really is. It is a plan to spend money on programs that will become a state problem after the fed money ends. He has decided that the long term health of his state dictates that he not accept this money. I however believe this is a moot point as his legislature is forcing him to accept this money. He is doing the right thing and his legislature has forced the state the wrong way.

  49. ChrisTyd says:

Wow… is this really the first comment? FIRST!

  50. ChrisTyd says:

Wow is this really the first comment? FIRST!

  51. ChrisTyd says:

Wow is this really the first comment?

  52. 357ben says:

A vast majority of Americans, DON'T want the government in every facet of their lives. Yet, those in government seem to want to be in EVERY facet of our lives! Sooner or later, that will result in a push back! Hopefully that push back is at the ballot box. But, considering BOTH parties seem to want to control some aspect of our lives, simply voting for the other party WILL NOT CHANGE A DARN THING!!! What we really need, is for government to return to the Constitution!! If they did that, 90% of the problems we have, WOULD NOT EXIST!!!!
