Every time the arrogant "UP-Chuck Schumer" opens his mouth I want to gag. Arrogance, smugness, elitist are but a few of the nice words I use to describe this moron. He and Stinky turn my stomach. Congress needs to be given the "bums rush" right out of office.
Of course she is virtually filibuster proof, they already have 59 democrats and only 40 republicans in congress. All it will take is for the white people in congress to reach a worse decision than the minorities in congress and voila you have a new racist judge on the Supreme Court.
The same guy that during the Alito hearings Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) characterized Senator Schumer's questioning as of the "When did you stop beating your wife?" style and remarked that if Senator Schumer can mention in-laws, he can mention a wife.
Who could forget the heavy drinking Ted Kennedy saying "Mr. ALI' – OOTO" trying to mock his name. I bet you he's got his names straight now. Even with a brain tumor and will not make any mistakes when he addresses Ms. Sotomayor when her hearing's start.
Unfortunately he's right, if Republicans in the Senate are gonna go wimpy on this. I agree with other Republicans that we shouldn't get involved in the racial component of this, but that doesn't mean give up. For once the Republicans in the Senate need to be united in opposition to this appointment. If the Republicans in the Senate have a backbone at all they'd come together against Sonia Sotomayor, but I think they threw their backbones in the trash a while ago. Senate Republicans, are you listening?…simply put NO.
If she or Obama is to be stopped it has to come from US calling our senators ,to stop her and him even dems will listen if enough calls are made .
All we need now is A Pelosi, Dodd, Kennedy and Barney endorsement and maybe her nomination will go down the toilet.

2) Soooooooo … immediately we start getting all thsi media talking about a large handful of "candidates in the running". Huge amounts of people become more and more pissed off about reverse racism and someone like her becoming a "Justice"

4) Sooooooooo … immediately we start getting this whole background "bad news bears", "rags to riches" story about her, which i have to say is a whole lot more vague, like Obama's background, than i would ver give people credit for. obviously i was not alone, people continue to question her crednetials even in her current postion or as a judge at all, much less a Justice.

I see Senator Schumer as an expert on one thing, being a career politician living off of the ignorance of his constituency. I hope he gets his walking papers soon.

If you had a questionable call in baseball and you picked 9 umpires to look at the rule book to come up with a decision,I'd say about 95% of the time the vote would be 9-0 one way or the other……Yet when we get the supposed 9 most brilliant minds looking at the constitution to solve an issue,the vote is usually 5-4…….The reason there is a divided result is because some of the justices think they are smarter than the constitution and the result they come up with is obviously,in their mind a better result than the founding fathers intended…..This Sotomayor nomination is just another example of one side wanting to stack the deck in their favor to get the results to change America………..on a related topic,there were some lawyers on TV last night arguing that gay marriage was a constitutional right……I find it odd that that this so called constitutional right did not exist when the people who wrote the constitution were alive……..If it were a known right you would have thought there would have been atleast 1 gay marriage performed back at that time in history…..just curious….maybe someone can answer that for me.
Sotomayor can't be questioned she is a minority. Remember Clarence Thomas, or Byork or Roberts? The left excoriated these men and now are scared to death to question a woman who is not qualified but happens to be a minority. I know there are many minorities out there who are qualified and worthy of this position and they too are wondering why this woman who votes not on law but on her idea of law should get this lifetime appointment while she says one race, one gender is better than another. If people began to vote on experience and ability and not race, we would'nt be in this mess now.!
Chuck Schumer, like all other politician's, needs to be voted out of office. Completely reboot the system. As for Sotomayor, he record speak's for it's self and disqualifies her from the highest court. Everyone please remember that this is a lifetime appointment. Once she's in, she's in for the rest of her life. That's scary. The republican's need to come out her with real, tough questions and viable information, not race related. Once "her compelling story" is out in the public, everyone should see who she really is. Well, everyone except those still drinking the kool-aid.

There is nothing White about Obama, his grandmother , who raised him was dying and he did'nt take any time for her. I think he did go to her funeral when he found time. If the white men Sotomayor refered to had character or backbone she would never be approved. Not so for Sotomayor whose race gives her the ability to judge differently. She won't follow constitutional law she will judge on her upbringing. The real opportunities to substantively oppose Sotomayor are the facts sitting in the Ricci case. If the Senate hearings can be scheduled and not rushed through as Obama wished; her shortcomings in logic will be exposed on the merits. The ruling and it's supporting and dissenting comments will be very useful and likewise the hearings themselves can be used effectively to expose the logic that may end up on the bench.
Conservatives do not gain public support if we provide the left with ANY quotes of thoughts that let them run off at the mouth….."See they're just a bunch of bigots", "they don't understand how it feels to be a minority", yadah, yadah, yadah.
We need to get smart and craft our opposition in the manner that Dick Cheney explained the enhanced interrogation techniques. Just facts, show cause and effect, no names, no labels, just common sense. Obama's explanations and logic where so weak in the head to head comparison.
I know that trying to use common sense is not always successful, but look at another teaching method……the use of the parable. Sunday school was there for a reason; teach & understand the concepts before trying to dive into the King James version of the Bible.

Chuck Schumer is a master of the obvious. There aren't enough true conservatives in the Senate to mount an attempt to filibuster of her nomination. But we can still make our views against her nomination known. We have every right to express our views. The progressive left wants us to shut up and be quiet so as not to make those uninformed citizens aware of the unsuitability of their nominee. To give the appearance of unanimous approval. If our Senators don't take a stand against her, and make the progressives take responsibility for her position, when things start to go bad we are stuck with the decision as ours. Its like Pelosi not expressing her opposition to waterboarding when she knew it was being used – Now it can be claimed she approved through her inaction.

There are two things which I wish to make a point on. The first is that we need to oppose this nomination as much as we can. Through her personal statements and her actions we know this woman is unfit for the Supreme Court. The sad thing is that because of how few Republicans there are, this nomination is almost a certainty. The only good thing I can saw about this is that she is replacing a very liberal judge, so the court is not fundamentally changed.
The second thing is how badly the media is falling itself over trying to tell us how awesome she is. If I hear "such an inspiring story" one more time my head will explode. What is annoying is that the stories of Estrada, Gonzales, and Thomas were all either just as inspiring or even more so, yet the press was more concerned about qualifications and their past judgements. I guess if you have an inspiring story only if you are a liberal. If you are a conservative you abviosuly have problems.
The liberal press takes the liberal view and they play it, and replay it until they program as many young minds as they possibly can. They know they cannot change most of the older peoples minds, we're kinda "set" in our ways, you know? So, they start from the bottom up and they prey on the impressionable young who are still trying to find their way in life, and it's paying off with dividends!! Look at who voted for B.O. !!! Now they will tell her "inspiring story" over and over until her "mistakes" are overlooked by the younger generation as a whole, and our court system will continue to degrade. And they will work on our constitution, slowly but surely, in the same fashion.

Wade decision that legalized child killing across America and cost 50,000,000 children their lives.
Furthermore, Rev. Rob Schenck of The National Clergy Council now reports that Sotomayor was or is an active board member of a group called the "Childbirth Connection" that advocates for "reproductive rights of women," which is generally a code word for abortion on demand, including partial birth abortion, which Sotomayor has never publicly opposed.

What our Senators just don't get is the balance of equal power between all three branches of government. When they appoint judicial activists, they are in fact stripping themselves of the ability to legislate. Judicial activism is eating at the very essence of our form of goverment, and our legislators are either too stupid to understand that, are playing a bad game of politics at the expense of our futures, or both.

What is really interesting about her "compelling history" is how it is no different from anyone else's in this nation. And it all happened while republicans were presidents. (So much for the racism that kept her down). Our country is made of compelling histories. Why should hers carry more weight than any others.

You have made a great list of reasons to oppose Sotomayor. Those posts need to spread faster across the 912 community and beyond. Cliff Brown has a post on vent that asks for reasons to oppose. I think it would be good for our effort if we can use a post like a vote. If a post that opposes that bigot breaks a record for thumbs up, and contains valuable bullets to use against her, we will have a useful tool.

1) SOTOMAYOR: BASEBALL BIAS FOR NEW YORK YANKEES!
As a native of South Bronx, Sotomayor's hidden home-town bias became manifest in her love for the New York Yankees, judicially favoring her "Bronx Bombers" over teams from all other cities. No kidding! When ruling to end the 1995 baseball strike, she sided with the player's union against team owners (who sought parity among all teams with an talent-sharing salary cap). Instead Sotomayor created bias in favor of rich teams who can afford to buy up all the good free agents. So when the New York Yankees hogged 4 titles and 6 pennants in the 8 years after her ruling, with payrolls averaging three times most other team salaries, you can blame Sotomayor for creating that competitive imbalance. I understand why Yankees fans might celebrate her promotion to the Supreme Court, but baseball fans from all other cities should complain loudly against her confirmation!
2) SOTOMAYOR: EVEN THE LIBERALS CALL HER A BULLY
Her own former clerk, liberal Jeffrey Rosen, now legal affairs editor for The New Republic, said she has "has an inflated opinion of herself" and is "kind of a bully on the bench." Another clerk who worked on the 2nd Circuit said she's: "not that smart and kind of a bully on the bench . . .She has an inflated opinion of herself, and is domineering during oral arguments, but her questions aren't penetrating and don't get to the heart of the issue."
3) SOTOMAYOR: FAVORS INTERNATIONAL LAW OVER AMERICAN LAW
Opposing a U.S. Congressional bill that would forbid activist judges from citing international law (instead of applying American law) in their decisions, Sotomayor wrote the controversial introduction for The International Judge, a book that promotes, in her words, "developing an international rule of law and institution-building" and idealizes the "pioneers who work tirelessly to bring these institutions from their incipience to their maturity." No doubt she will vote with Justice Ginsberg, who believes American judges should sometimes look toward international law rather than the U.S. Constitution.
4) SOTOMAYOR: FAVORITISM BY RACE OR GENDER, NOT LAW
Sotomayor told the Berkeley Law School: "Our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging . . .I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life." It is no surprise, therefore, she ruled against white Firefighters of New Haven, throwing out the results of a promotion exam because almost no minorities qualified. She denied promotion for the white firefighters who performed well on the exam, and gave minorities who failed the exam favorable consideration toward promotion. Sotomayor promotes aggressive affirmative action, promoting race or gender, not merit. The U.S. Supreme Court reviewed this case in April 2009, and is expected to overturn her again.
5) SOTOMAYOR: OVERRULED 33 OF 44 VOTES BY SUPREME COURT
Sotomayor has had 5 decisions reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court, 3 of which have been reversed. One of these was her aggressive pro-environmental anti-energy decision, another was her aggressive pro-litigation anti-business decision, which was overturned unanimously. She has carried only 11 of 44 possible votes during those cases. Chief Justice Roberts once stated that her method of reading the statute in question "flies in the face of the statutory language." Dean Mat Staver of Liberty Law School cites these reasons to oppose Sotomayor, saying, "No one ever expected President Barack Obama to nominate someone who respects the original intent of the Constitution."
6) SOTOMAYOR: SAVIOR OF THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF WOMEN
NOW President Kim Gandy quickly endorsed Sotomayor, saying: "This morning we will celebrate, and this afternoon NOW will launch our 'Confirm Her' campaign to ensure the swift confirmation of the next Supreme Court Justice." There's no way this liberal group would endorse Sotomayor unless she were pro-lesbian and pro-abortion, as Gandy openly advocates on the NOW web-site.
7) SOTOMAYOR: ANTI-TEN COMMANDMENTS, BUT PRO-MUSLIM?
ACLJ Attorney Jay Sekulow said of Sotomayor: "She is left in judicial philosophy, ranges much further left than Justice Ginsburg or Justice Souter . . . I just had a case where the Court was unanimous, it was involving the 10 commandments issue, and the court was unanimous 9 to 0, but I would not expect that if Judge Sotomayor was confirmed, that it would probably have been 8 to 1. She has a very, very strict view of church-state separation, and she was aggressive on this idea of a 'living constitution.'" Meanwhile she ruled one Muslim prisoner had a right to receive the Eid ul Fitr feast (a Muslim holiday meal) in his prison cell, and another Muslim prisoner had a right to access a Muslim chaplain, which is fine if she treats other faiths equally. But I personally suspect Sotomayor would rule to disallow public prayers offered "in Jesus name" but allow prayers to Allah, just like Obama's other judicial nominee David Hamilton.
In her ruling to allow government to ban privately owned weapons belonging to New York citizens, Sonia Sotomayor wrote in Maloney v. Cuomo: "The Second Amendment applies only to limitations the federal government seeks to impose on this right . . . not upon that of the state." Since her crazy reading of the 2nd Amendment only forbids Congress from seizing your guns, the New York State Assembly was fully authorized to ban nunchuks, or seize ANY AND ALL of your weapons, according to Sotomayor's anti-liberty reasoning.

I live in Chuckyou Schumer's state, which has recently been rated the 'least free' state in the union. The arrogant Senator from NY is right, she will be confirmed, but not without some hard and searching questions regarding her statement about a latina woman reaching a better conclusion than a white male. Her back peddling on that should be interesting. After all, 'better' means 'superior.' And it is not an off the cuff statement, it was a pre-written and rehearsed speech. So did she mean exactly what she said? Very likely. She's a judicial activist.
Charles Krauthammer said 'rebut, then confirm.' In the 'rebuttal,' the Republicans must go at that issue, that of the New Haven firefighters and the empathy issue (to name a few), and refrain from 'personal attacks.' And hey Chuckyou Schumer – stick it!

I think the current rules on the Senate state that if a nominee does not get at least one vote from the minority party in the Judiciary committee then they can't be brought to the full Senate for a vote. A self-respecting person who claims they are against bigotry will not vote for a someone with racist, bigoted views such as Sotomayor.
That is true. If the Committee Republicans are 100% against they can block. That rule has not applied in a very long time because Specter called himself a Republican and voted with Dems.
I've been watching how the senators on the Jud. committee have been talking and they are saying they will give her a fair shot…they will wait to see how she answers the questions. Whats funny and upsetting at the same time is that I was unfortunately listening to Alan Colmbs (spelling?), and he was soooo upset over Rush and Newts racist comments and said people were blowing her comments out of proportion and taking them out of context- But thats all Alan does to conservatives on his show! I remember on several occasions watching H & C's and Colmes would ask a question, using a the Democratic talking-point in order to trap someone into admitting his point, but people like Newt would just hammer him, proving him wrong, but this wouldn't stop him later from asking the same question.. trying to get an answer that pleases him. Knowing that it wasn't true.
There is one other interesting thought… She seems to have a past similar to Obama. No one really knows the specifics… She seems to have existed, has a American rags to riches story, as with 99% of all Americans. The only evidence or understanding of her in the public domain is; she thinks that white-men are stupid, thinks it is her prerogative to make policy, the Constitution means nothing now, it is out of date and judges should make laws based on empathy.
The major problem with her and Obama's philosophy is that they consider the Constitution an evolving document that needs to be updated to follow with culture changes 21st century America. Either they do not understand its premise, or they are simply lying. The Constitutional is an abstraction that defines the principle and scope of our laws. Without it, our laws would have no guiding principle, no scope in which to constrain it, and most of all would not protect the people from the government.

I'm actually a pretty good shot…just don't have my own gun yet.
When I was younger, my father taught me how to shoot, and I became a very successful hunter, making a few good, long shots on moving targets. I thought I was a good shot, too.
THEN, I started to enter hi-power rifle competitions, I competed with some good Army and Marine boys. I found out I wasn't a bad shot, but I also found out some of those boys COULD shoot!!! Thats why I still practice, practice, practice!!!
Please understand, I'm not saying you aren't as good as you may say, my point is that when I thought I was good, a few Army and Marine boys showed me I could use a bit more practice.
The only one we can count on is Jeff Sessions from Alabama. But can he convince his colleagues? Remember that to block he has to have them all.
well, I'm sure there is always room for improvement! My main concern is gun safety–which comes with the regular use of guns…shooting and just learning about them.
Liberals seem to think that gun safety means scaring people into thinking guns are some kind of esoteric threat to mankind…when the real threat is ignorance and lack of preparation.
It seems that most people who are afraid of guns…hardly use them. The more I use them, the more comfortable I am with arming myself. My little brother (27, so not that little anymore) has a permit to carry a concealed weapon…he showed it to me a couple of weeks ago. I am at ease knowing that when in a potentially harmful situation that my brother not only has a weapon, but knows how to use it safely and effectively.
