“The misguided polices of previous administrations have let North Korea to take the actions it currently has taken. We can’t go around bullying the world and not expect some countries to be so frightened of us that they pursue nuclear weapons and missile technology. Chew on this for a sec. If the reserves are called up and sent to Korea, there will be a huge void of military people in this country. Most will be overseas, so in comes Obamas new security force. That is truly scary. Maybe BO should take the criminals in prisons, take them to the middle of the desert in Iraq for their training (so they can't escape), then plop their worthless butts in S Korea. Bring home our brave, courageous men and women that will and can protect America. The criminals in the prisons have life pretty easy at the sacrifice of our military; you know cable t.v., ready access to pc's, and they can sit on their lazy butts and plan more carnage. Make them pay this society back.
Ah yes the mighty UN to the rescue or as I like to call them the un- (successful plus un = unsuccessful). Now the leader of NK, what's his name, Ding Dong? Anyway he knows that nothing is going to happen over this other than him getting his jollies by taunting the great power of the US. The un- is nothing but a bag of wind and sanctions mean nothing to Ding Dong, that's been quite obvious for a decade or so and we're already involved in two wars that should be over and done with by now, but add in the un and they're both undone.
My point is as long as the un- exists there will be idiots like Ding Dong taunting the world. Get rid of the un- and bring back the threat of war being a rare but devastating consequence, instead of a common inconvenience.
North Korea is testing our President and the rest of the world. North Korea would love to bomb the United States. They don't view human life as we do. Look at North Korea and the people that lives there. People are straving. But their leaders don't care about his own people.
I just read in the Wall Street Journal that "Analysts say the rapid succession of weapons tests and fiery statements MAY mark a CHANGE from a longtime pattern in which North Korea made a provocative
action and then sought economic aid or security concessions not to do it again." Kim's with his in your face firing of missles frankly isn't normal and he may be looking to go out with a big bang which wouldn't surprise me in the least. This story certainly isn't good news from a NK leader who may have cried Uncle one too many times – only this time he might NOT be kidding. His ego is big and his brain is fried hotter than a piece of chicken and like the saying says "Payback is HELL."
I wonder why his own people won't water board that little turd…
Are we? I believe China has taken over the number one spot. We could be second, then again, we could be 3rd, fourth, and even sixth… behind North and South Korea. I have no doubt we are a force to reckon with but without those nukes to back us up …… could get very ugly!

The President opened the door wide when he presented the world with a "New America" guilty , guilty, so sorry, my appologies, ect. ect. We are now looked uppon as less than a 3rd world nobody to listen too. He threw away our Honor, Respect, and Freedom in one swell stump ride to Europe. I pray that we do not have to go to war with NK, for it would be one of the bloodiest wars this nation has ever fought. Sure, we could wipe the whole nation out with nukes, but we all know that will never happen unless we are attacked. I firmly believe our nation will never use nukes again, except as a deterrant. If NK invades the South or attacks Japan, then yes war may be neccessary. NK is very prepared for war. In the event we do go to war, be prepared for a reinstatement of the draft. I am mainly for airstrikes to "contain" the NKs. However I do not think this would work and ultimately boots would have to be on the ground. This war would probably result in the death of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of soldiers and civilians. Oh yeah i forgot..how would we pay for it?
I agree with you but N. Korea is out to provoke the US and I am starting to see that Iran, North Korea, and Russia are playing a major part in collaborating the provocation of the third world war. I believe Obama is so busy hobnobbing and has little clue as to what to do because he was run up such a huge deficit that we have no power and we are at the will of the tyrannical regimes. I also think Obama is not taking this threat seriously and unfortunately Americans will pay the price. I think Obama will turn out to be the most incompetent President in United States History and I predict that after we are attacked by some rogue nation and thousands die people will finally wake up to Obama's lack of concern for our safety. Chenney is 100% correct despite his popularity rating. Sometimes the people who tells us straight are not always well liked but they care for our safety and are not motivated by popularity. Obama only cares about popularity that is why he checks the polls on a regular basis. This kind of leadership is dangerous and ineffective. So we must be on guard for when the ball drops, because it will.
Kim Jong Ill is like a child who has never been punished for his acts like a Dr. Spock raised child. He is throwing a tantrum and he is starting to try a war and he will go nuclear. No one knows who he will hit but its a damn good bet that he will go after the US. The Hawaiian Islands are within his range. Doesn't he have submarines that could bring missles to continent? China is supporting him and always has. If we get hit I have to wonder what our response would be. Our current administration is not going to respond militarily for fear they would be labled war criminals. So that leaves us with diplomacy AKA. She will send them a stern letter. Did you notice in the backdrop behind Kim there was a US submarine being blown in half. And we shouldn't worry??
The thing that worries me about NK and Kim Jong Ill is not that he will use the weapons himself, but he will sell them to anyone with money. He needs money to feed his people and such. If he nukes anyone, he slits his own throat. Now if he sells his nukes and rockets to terrorists and they use them, well nobody is going to nuke him for that. Well George Sorros might, after all Sorros believes that the maker of a weapon should be libel for any crimes caused with that weapon. Anyway, that is what worries me about NK, they aren't showing off for the global community, they just might be showing off for potential buyers.

It would be nice if the President would have a news conference on important issues such as North Korea! Obama spends more time wasting our time saying absolutely nothing on his many press conferences….instead of using the tools we have to protect us against our real enemies he is using some of the patriot act against Governor's who just happen to come from Chicago! Use the tools we gave you against our enemies…not the American People. Get to work Mr. President…you did say you would protect us…did you Change your mind?
My greatest fear is that we will enter into an armed conflict with North Korea (not that we couldn't take them out in a three day weekend) due to the cultural brainwashing that they have been subject to for 5 decades. The people of North Korea litterally have no idea what is transpiring outside their borders. An invasion will be akin to those of the allied forces on Japanese islands in WWII.
That being said, we must act. An evil is growing that must be quashed which no diplomacy can irradicate. Kim Jung Il's has shown that sabre rattling is the only language he understands. I would call on small surgical strikes on the launch sites of the missles as well as a surface bombing of the nuclear test site.
This is the time for Mr. Obamma to stand up as the President of the UNITED STATES and show his mettle or follow in the footsteps of our weakest president who contributed to this fiasco, Jimmy Carter.

Normally we have North Korea’s rattle swords – get goodies – period of peace cycle. Some differences are:
1.The rising political power of the NOKO military.
2.The missile and nuclear technologies have advanced to sellable products.
3.Kim Jong-il’s health.
This could cause real danger rather then the normal cycle. I remember serving in Korea during the reign of Kim’s father Kim Il-sung. We were worried about Il-sungs pronouncement that Korea will be one country before Kim Il-sung’s death. He was old and sick and we expected an attack at any time. This puts the citizens and government of South Korea under intense stress. There are many things that happen on a day to day basis that is not reported in the States. Things like NOKO special forces coming south and killing people. We often joked that we were in South Korea to prevent South Korea from attacking North Korea rather then the other way around. The South Koreans may be close to cracking and the South Koreans could attack North Korea if we do nothing.
This is one possibility I haven’t heard reported.
There are connections between Iran and N. Korea. There are also connections between Iran and Venezuela. All countries Obama wants to talk with. These are also countries that have each talked down about Obama and fought against the United States since Obama came into office. The President of Iran has stated that it is not diplomacy that will change the middle east but by force much like in Russia. He said this to Larry King on his show so many months ago. Obama needs to show strength or they will walk all over him.

America was based on god and the constitution, not that everything is OK, there is no evil. There is such a thing as being wrong realist, so are you on the right or in the wrong? Today's wrongists (lib left) has broken down the moral fabric of our nation to the point that people are now having difficulties distinguishing the difference between the two. This is causing most of the problems we have today because we are no longer choosing leaders with integrity & honor, we instead choose lying, cheating, thieves, then look up to them as if they are honorable. As a conservative christian, I do have to ask, would God want us to go to war with North Korea? After all, Jesus did tell us to love our enemies. But, I don't think he meant for us to let ourselves be destroyed by them. What is sad, is that at this rate we may destroy ourselves.

Yeah, I rember reading in the bible somewhere- can't find the verese at the moment- that God would exault those who defend Israel. I just thought that I'd pose that question about God wanting us to wage war with Nk, because I don't want us to turn blindfully hatefull torward them, and maybe rush into another war. I deployed to Iraq in 2005, and I am no fan of war now, although I do understand that at times there just isn't any other way. Ya know?

BAck in the day, we had a strong defense, we were civil with most countries, and we helped around the world. There were mistakes, like Ruwanda, but we've done very well for this great big world of His.
There is a time for defending yourself and fighting for whats right, like in Mark chapter 11 when Jesus went into the temple and threw over the tables on the moneychangers for using the temple as a place of buying and selling instead of a house of worship. Jesus was perfect and this proves that even in perfection you can get angry and basically lay some justifiable smack down.
We love our enemies, and pray for those the persecute us PERSONALLY. The government bears the sword to protect it's citizenry, that is also Biblical. The US is the only superpower, and one the few nations on the Earth that is free. This simple fact dictates that we must help other nations attain their freedom, if they truly desire it.
We will not go to war with North Korea, simply because we have a weak-kneed President and Congress.

We were already saying to world would test the president. I don't think it is as much about them testing him as much as they aren't afraid of him like they were of Bush and Cheney. It's like mommy and daddy left them with the babysitter. And if we don't do something about it they are going to continue with this. It has already been said this is not something new for North Korea but they have been work, pushing, planning for these missiles. They can just psuh forward with it now Obama is president. We are going to get into a hole if we don't do something now.
We will all wake up one morning and turn on the news to see that someone has been hit with a nuclear missile. Iran and North Korea are leading the pack as loose cannons. Who will get hit? What impacts will it have beyond loss of life? Will it stop the flow of oil out of the mid east crippling the Worlds energy supply? Will Japan get hit crippling trade? Can a little more advanced rocket reach Hawaii or Alaska? Do we stop them before they can hit LA or NY? Will Israel launch theirs when they are hit making the entire region a useless waste land for decades? These things and more are what is at risk, We are the only nation that can decide, no one else could launch and support action without our support, so in the end it is up to US, What are we gonna do…
BO won't act alone. He is too much into the 'international community' so us acting along is out. If the oil supply chain is delayed, damaged or cut for any legnth of time, then the west is at best put on pause, at worst, crippled. Imagine what a great crisis this would be! BO would nationalize EVERYTHING and he would run the gas stations, news outlets–oh,wait, he already does that (except Fox and I question that too!) and the internet. The 'net is or maybe has become the last outlet of uncensored communication. Anyway, for him to act alone would probably mean a nuke in downtown L.A.!

These were not and are not the problems on my end. Have notified them of these facts and they are attempting to resolve the problem.

Obama in his frenzy to apologize to every other country forgot to apologize to Kim Jung Il and the North Koreans! Now we know why the North Koreans tested the nukes.
Yeah, Kim Jung Il must really be frightened because B. Hussein "strongly condemned" the actions of N. Korea. Maybe B. Hussein can convince the UN security council to send them a strongly worded letter. That should make the N. Koreans think twice about another nuke test.

He will accelerate his plans for our unilateral disarmament, and cutting our missile defense program despite the N. Korean desire to provoke the world. Not only that but he strongly condemned their actions and I bet he is trying to convince the UN to send a strongly worded letter to the N. Koreans. They will really be frightened once they get that letter in bold print from the UN.

Thanks. My sister actually inspired this little rant. It was something she said while watching the Amazing Race where they were in India. She was startled by the poverty and didn't realize that was the majority of the population.
I believe that crazy man that N Korea worships, is going to nuke not only S Korea, but Japan as a legacy to himself. He knows he will die soon, so he wants to go out this way, and take everyone in Korea with him. Then it is a stand off between America, Russia and China.
Now that is someone who is really afraid of death and meeting His Maker! Someone should tell him it's a one on one deal…. no matter how many go with you.

Finally someone is testing him. Now, i know the whole nuke thing could send the world down the toliet, the idea of obama being tested is what counts. We need to see how Obama deals with the disrespectful North Koreans, from this we can see how he might deal with other situations. This is vital information.
He won't do anything except issue a strong condemnation and maybe a strongly worded letter, but he failed to know about these tests. They were a surprise to our intelligence agencies and that only shows Obama is not ready for prime time. He has failed already.
It's just astonishing to see over and over again how absolutely NAIVE the Obama Administration is on foreign policy.

And they seriously expect to resolve anything meaningful?
I think it's the usual delay tactics, after which they will punt the problem to a new administration.
The problem is that Iran & N. Korea are deliberately interested in talking, so that they can have time to complete their WMD programs. Then they'll sell the technology to the highest bidder.
And if someone like Osama Bin Laden isn't the highest bidder, then they'll bump him to the head of the line anyway.

It wasn't that long ago that they had the nerve to suggest Bush's policy with North Korea was a failure and were bragging about how they had dealt with the situation using diplomacy! If you can call allowing yourself to be blackmailed and paying someone to not do something while they go ahead and do it anyway. Yes, Clinton's presidency had great success dealing with Kim Il Ding Dong. It was their administration that allowed North Korea to build the bomb, and even paid them for it. They could have been stopped then, but now since Clinton let them go ahead and build it everyone sits around and says there's nothing we can do they have the bomb! Now the "Idiotic One" wants to repeat that "success"! He's going to wait until Iran has a bomb built and then say "There's nothing we can do, they have a bomb!" Then we can have two nations threatening us with nuclear weapons. Just keep on talking while they keep on laughing.

I do believe the US did mess this up, and somehow the words Jimmy Carter come to mind. However, the thought also occurs to me that this is way over on the other side of the world. I would like to see some closer allies of ours, such as Japan and Australia stand up to this. We would of course stand behind them. It is hard for the US always to be the dominant police keeper of the world, since it has given so many countries the crazy idea that that can allow them to hate us. I would love to see Japan or Australia take the lead on this, and we support them. The country that should worry the most is Japan. Japan and Korea have a long history of hatred and attacking each other in past centuries, and the people in both of those countries have long memories – unlike the very short memories Americans have.
RNHunter, it is the responsibility of the US to protect Japan, and has been since WWII. I spent 3 years stationed there. Japan abolished its military after WWII because they considered themselves too warlike and were afraid that they would not be able to control their imperialistic impulses in the future. The SOFA agreement between Japan and the US specifies that the US will provide this protection to Japan – one of the reasons we have so many military bases there – and Japan maintains Self Defense forces specifically for the purpose of defending their home soil. There is a lot of bad blood between Japan and both Koreas, and, after the lessons of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan is VERY concerned about nuclear weapons in North Korea's hands. They are the only country who has experienced an actual attack by nuclear weapons, and, having visited Peace Park and studied the results of the weapons used, I can understand their fear and concern.

Having lived in Asia for 4 years, I can tell you their memory is extremely short. Here in the USA we still remember WWI and WWII but there they cannot even know the reason for the Vietnam War. Stereotyping Americans for short memories and lack of languages is just disgusting. Americans remember and speak as eloquent as any other nationality. Note: I was not born here and only lived 25% of my life here.
While Australia is about the size of the Continental US, their population is only around 21 Million. Compare that with the 304 Million of the US and 24 Million in Texas. You want them to step up and take the lead against Korea like they are a powerful country. Like Japan, their military is very defensive. They just don't have enough people to afford building a policing military. Yes, they were in Saudi when I served there to help fight Iraq (Gulf 1), but they aren't that well equipped to lead. Their military members are high caliber people all, but how much defense budget do you think 21 Million people can pay? If the US buys an $18 Million piece of equipment, that equates to less than 6 cents per person. In Australia, it costs each person almost 86 cents. Just because we can afford a big military, doesn't mean all our allies can.

North Korea tested an ICBM in mid April of this year. It just happened to fly over Japan. How convenient. It is no mistake by NK the nuke was tested on our Memorial Day. We (the U.S.) needs China to buy our debt. China needs us to buy their goods. This does cause serious concern for the U.S. What will TOTUS (Teleprompter of THE U.S.) tell obama to say? bho has his first serious test of foreign policy. He has received his first 3 AM call. What will TOTUS tell bho to do? Don't waste a crisis barry. What's funny about this crisis is bho didn't fabricate it and doesn't control it, but must deal with it.

I think the most important thing to take away, here, is that North Korea did this under the OBAMA administration. The article says that they've been warning to do it for quite a while (meaning for longer than Obama has been the executive) but they chose to do this now.
Barrack has continually showed his submission to other nations, including those that want us destroyed. There is no coincidence that:
a) this occurred close to Memorial Day, which I find to be an insult to the US and it's soldiers – "You're honoring those who have fallen for your country, we're going to test a bomb that could cause countless more to fall."

b) this occurred close to Memorial Day while Obama was president. Kim Jong Il wouldn't have had the cojones to pull this stunt while Bush was president. If he had, he would have done it last year.
More than anything, we absolutely must be aware of the minutia. These seemingly small things indicate a much larger, more universal view of what is happening in our world toady in regards to our safety and our standing among the other countries.

We only have two options in our treatment of North Korea, well actually 3. We have to cut off ALL aid, including humanitarian to North Korea. We have to put pressure on China to also put sanctions on this rogue nation and also cut them off (probably won't happen). Lastly, and this will be the most difficult, we have to do everything possible to bring the government down, which means subversive, under cover, whatever you want to call it. Remember, Iran is watching to see how O'Bama responds, if he responds less than forcefully, then Iran will have a field day. The UN is absolutely hopeless and the only reason to stay in the UN is, "to keep our enemies closer."
North Korea is surrounded by 2 countries that have embraced democracy and capitalism – South Korea and Japan, and a third that is starting to trend that way – China. These countries have good or improving standands of living and quality of life for its citizens. N. Korea persists in a policy of government control of everything and intimidation of its population. It is spending it's meager resources on bombs, missles, and military parades, while its citizens have one of the lowest standards of living in the world. Where is the focus?
Beware of countries whose leaders appoint themselves as "Gods", and rule over the citizens as if they were their children.
The people of North Korea must initiate change from within and take control over the tyrants.
They need to make the change from the inside, if anyone was to try and take over from the out side it would be a blunder, just think how you would feel if another country invaded and told you how to run it, this is whats happening in Iraq and what happened in Vietnam, occupations don't work, another good example would be The U.S. I.E. revolutionary war, the War of 1812….
Funny, all the Iraqis I've met are damned glad to have us there, and I'll bet you a bunch that I've met a lot more than you have! It's the insurgents (who are NOT Iraqis) who are causing the problems.
