Well if anyone out there still wonders why gun sales have spiked so much…Just after the election, I bought a pistol and a shotgun knowing what would come. Really, does this news surprise anybody?
I have never owned a gun, in my life but I intend to join the N.R.A. in order to show my support for our Constitutional right to bear arms. The Constitution of the U.S. is a sacred document that was written with the sacrifice and blood of our forefathers and the first citizens of our country and much blood has been spilled and sacrifices made by every generation of Americans since , to preserve it. Far too many people in this country are now taking it for granted.
They are coming for your guns whether you like it or not. If you are not a multi-millionaire and above…kiss your 2nd Amendment goodbye!
Seriously, I doubt that a terrorist would go to a gun shop or show to purchase a firearm. Since we cant seem to control our borders or keep drugs out, what problem would it be for terrorists to sneak illegal firearms in. The terrorists primary objective is to build or smuggle a WMD into America in order to kill as many citizens as possible. A gun is not going to have the same effect as a WMD. Without question this bill has great potential to abuse American`s constitutional rights. This bill states that you can challenge a denial in federal court. Does anyone realize how much it costs to take a case to federal court? And the government can simply have subpoenas or motions for discovery quashed by making the claim that records are "classified".

gonna be hard to get that new Desert Eagle or .45 1911 being how I am a veteran, lead the children's worship at our church, belong to this site, and usually mock those holding the signs for prochoice rallies. Gonna have to go back to the black market for some more guns of questionable history just to keep my growing family armed with more than pitch forks. p.s. already have a spot to hide them should the need arise.
Our Government is taking steps to ensure that no matter what they do we will be powerless. They are afraid of the citizenry, let alone one that is well armed. I believe it was Jefferson that said something like as long as the government fears the people that is a Republic, if the people fear the government that is tranny. I know that ain't the exact words but I'm willing to bet everyone here understands what I'm getting at. Right now the government doesn't fear the people, we fear the government. They don't worry about what we think because for years we just vote, and they get their pay checks and they are happy. Keep a lookout for the tea parties that happen near you, and try to attend. They may be shunning them right now, but it's catching their attention. Thats why this bill will be the first of many like it, next it will be registration, ammo control, and then confiscation. What do you think will happen then? Will we let it go that far? I don't think so.
Pretty soon i'll become a criminal and the junky on the corner will become a law abiding citizen, when they legalize drugs and outlaw firearms. Of coarse it makes sense a stoned population would be alot easier to control then an armed one. Oh read a post on here about moving to montana i have to say that it sucks here and i don't think we have enough room for anyone else.

The one thing I've noticed time and again in the weapons debate [I come from the "R Lee Ermy School of This is my RIFLE, This is my GUN..."" ] is this:
The Presumption of Guilt.
This is the notion that by wanting, desiring and/or possessing a weapon already denigrates the owner as a "potential" criminal and has been the crux of progressive disarmament of the American citizen practically since the Civil War.
"Anything can be made into a weapon by a criminal" is the tired old statement drug out when the notion of illicit blacksmithing is brought up- and again, it all ties back to the presumption of guilt for manufacturing, possession or desire to have arms deigned for self/familial protection.
This presumption of guilt is no accident- outside the marble walls of the Body Politique it is bandied but never quite spoken and most certainly, unless it's the Feinstein crowds is it even so much as eluded towards- but then, a government that fears it's people- and given the Social Engineering done since just before the radical 60s- would certainly begin to whimper like some schoolyard pup to change the rules in order to favor their "winning" this game.
Note the Keisian & Lackoff tactics used to keep the "Gun Debate" on the side of the "righteous" progressives- you have to 'explain yourself" concerning your possession or desire for arms… You have to exonerate your need for such things…
Like a lion clutch circles it's prey- you're singled out, picked apart, brought down & then munched on.

How much would it cost to appeal the feds if they told you that you can't have a gun? You would have to spend thousands. If they pass this law your rights are gone. They would simply take you to court and in 5 mins tell you that you have been put on a list, and they cannot explain it in court because it is classified. Look at the DHS report where returning military was considered likely terrorists. That one snuck out but you can be sure that they won't let that happen again.

Jesus was a revolutionary man with many beliefs, one of them was that a man must, at all costs, defend his family. He argued in favor of the right to bear, what in his time was the deadliest of arms, the sword.

That is a great article that I whole heartedly agree with. I don't know about your belief system, but I always look for a physical and non-physical meaning with which to place any biblical text into it's proper context. This verse is no different. If having a sword around were a sin, Jesus would not have ordered his followers to buy any. He did, however, order them to not have too many, and to not use them with recklessness or for oppressive purposes.
I believe this would amount to what we today refer to as "responsible gun ownership". I, personally, have a .45 in my bedroom, and since I was a military policeman before I went to college and practice at the range regularly, am properly trained on how to use it. I would not use it unless absolutely necessary, would never be reckless or use it to impose my views on others. But in the instance that someone forcefully entered my home at night in an effort to bring some sort of injury to a member of my family…..I would not hesitate to use it.

All voting Americans need to pay attention to is the attack coming against the U.S. Constitution’s 2nd Amendment from the UN and its gun control supporters.
On Feb. 25, 2009, Attorney General Eric Holder said the Obama administration will reinstate the federal ban on assault weapons and impose additional restrictions. They feel confident they can use the Mexican Drug Cartels as their righteous mandate, using false statistics and miss-information to mislead the American Public. Once again, the so-called socialist left will table thump their cause against the law abiding American Citizen instead of hunting down the real rogues, thugs, and drug gangsters. Once again, the socialist left will demand additional restrictions and more heavy handed regulations all aimed at disarming an American Public as opposed to really getting after the bad guys. Once again, the UN General Assembly is waiting in the background with another special treaty, outlawing all gun-ownership for all private individuals, namely Americans. They have succeeded in Europe and in Australia in disbanding and disarming the general public. Now the UN wants to disarm Americans.
Furthermore U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has announced many times that he is in favor of domestic American gun control, as favored by the International Action Network on Small Arms. Such regulation might require full registration, heavy taxes on ammunition, or declaring a band against ownership of any weapon that is not a single shot. Anti-Gun socialists and the members of the UN even want pump shotguns outlawed under this new concept of small arms gun control.
There is another worry as well. Accordingly, there exists a picture of President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden, all smiling, arm and arm with members of the International Action Network on Small Arms. Such organizations see the Obama Administration as being utterly sympathetic to all gun control causes and as a result, the UN is already demanding that the US Senate ratify their International Arms Treaty outlawing small arms.
Many political analysts think that Obama will try hard to please all of the political groups that supported him. The anti-gun-lobby was a key supporter of the Obama candidacy and they certainly feel that they were a major part of his being elected President. Now, they are clamoring for what they see as their due. Obama will support and lend credence towards the UN International Arms Treaty and push for its U.S. Senate Ratification. That way, he can claim success in taking away from all Americans their 2nd Amendment rights, while at the same time, stating that He personally did nothing against the 2nd Amendment, that he is just honoring the UN Treaty to stop Mexican Drug Lords.
Don't think that can not happen? Guess again.
Americans must remember that when the U.S. Senate ratifies a treaty, it becomes the Law of the Land, and can cause serious situational issues with our own Constitution and our Bill of Rights. The UN and its supporters of gun control are working very hard to usurp the U.S. Constitution’s 2nd Amendment by going under the radar with vague language that will cause our Bill of Rights to be submissive and compliant with a ratified UN Treaty and International Law as stipulated by the UN General Assembly.
Call or write your Senator and Congressmen today, and demand that ratification of any UN Treaty regarding Arms Control be struck down! Do not make the mistake of being silent on this matter….
My feelings on this are, go ahead and pass whatever you want, but if you do, you had better enforce it.To the letter.Enforcing this sort of ignorent, knee-jerk legislation would be enough of a burden to bring these people to their senses.I for one, would like to have every elected official go through an orientation class on the Constitution and be required to read The 5000 Year Leap.With a test at the end of the course.If they don't pass, they cannot propose any legislation until they do.

This new gun control was actually sponsored by a Republican. That's scary. That is also what makes me so mad. No matter what website I am on most of the conservatives side with the Republicans and the liberals most all side with the Democrats. That's the problem. 97% of all politicians in Washington are corrupt. We need to vote out every politician this next election cycle. You can still vote for a Democrat, Republican, or a libretaian. Just get them all out of there. That will send a strong message that we are not listening to lies, promises, or doublespeak anymore..No one in Washington believes in America the way we do. So the answer Congress comes up with to deal with this is more ambiguous gun control laws… Sounds like a prime example of government logic there. We should all naturally deduce from that aforementioned example of flawless logic that we need even more of these quasi-educated idiots managing every aspect of our lives. If we could only have taxes act as a government salary where they could only get a raise in them based on performance, we'd have the problem of government spending solved. However, if they were only spending money based on taxes, and not printing it out of thin air, we'd have a lot less of that problem also.

Another point. Instead of our government trying to legislate ambiguous laws to try to prevent terrorists from obtaining a gun, perhaps they should secure our borders to help prevent them from coming here in the first place. Maybe even enforcing our immigration laws so we can have some idea of who the hell is in our country illegally, and could pose such a threat. That's right congress, focus on preventing them from obtaining a gun, but don't try to stop terrorists from walking across the border with a chemical or biological weapon, or perhaps a suitcase dirty nuke.
You have a very valid point, IF, they were really trying to protect us from terrorists with this bill. This bill has nothing to do with terrorists having guns. It is purely designed in a "stealth" way to keep law abiding Americans from owning guns.

Since I attended a Tea Party protest and fly a Gadsden Flag from my house I could end up on Janet Napolitano's domestic terrorist list and legislation like that mentioned in the article could then potentially restrict my right to own or purchase firearms. To me the Dept of Homeland Security's new list of potential domestic terrorist is really a list of political enemies of the left who are then labeled terrorist. Why is it that they refuse to call terrorists terrorists, but are more than willing to call American conservatives terrorists. Couldn't they at least do us the courtesy of calling us "Domestic Man-Made Disasters?"
I am sick and tired of being, classified as a terrorist or wacko, because I wish to protect myself, family
and my country. I have many guns in my collection, most are for show and display or hobby shooting

Having the permit carries great responsibility, but we have the burden to supporting our constitution

Sounds like our incompetent leaders in washington are pushing us into a full blown revolt .
I doubt there will be any real attempt at true gun control (elimination) although all this talk about who is a terrorist would suggest that the groundwork is being laid to remove many or at the very least some. The old adage "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" is as we all well know a true and effective argument.
I think this is a smoke screen for the real agenda items like national health care and amnesty.
If this passes I guarantee that anybody on the no fly list will not be able to buy a firearm without appeals and what not. Remember everyday innocent people go on that list. Just imagine how long the appeal would take with government.
Yeah, but could we the people in the middle and lower class be able to afford to take an appeal to federal courts. Having the right to do something, and having the means to do it are two different things. If this passes than they have already accomplished what they want. Not to mention that if it was and accident that the DHS report came out an it was supposed to be classified, then the feds could just say no at your supposed appeal claiming reasons that are classified. How are you going to fight that?
The jack booted thugs from the BATF and HRT will not be far behind. The legislators in the states that are trying do take back states rights starting with the guns will be made examples out of by the BHO administration, just like they did with Ruby Ridge and Waco. They will claim these legislators have made terrorist threats against the nation and committed treason and have massive stores of illegal weapons at their homes. After the appropriate hand wringing crying out for massive gun control by the yellow journalist in the mainstream media, they will go in and kill all involved and burn them and their families to death. Does this sound extreme? Ask the man who survived Ruby Ridge, who watched his family murdered by government assassins dressed up as federal law enforcement. Beck and the rest who think that this can and will be handled only in the courts in a civil manner are only fooling themselves and are quite naïve, the government has a long history of using terror and murder to gets its way. Think I am kidding, look it up in the history books starting with the American Indians.
This is just another way the suits in washington and trying to slowly take away our rights thinking we wont know if they word it very cleaverly. However us people that cling to our guns and bibles are pretty darn well educated contrary to what they like to belive. Technically anyone of us 9.12'ers could be classified as a threat. Just another step to banning firearms. Anyone who has attended a church could then be labeled a terrorist, anyone who has attended a tea party or protest a terrorist. Anyone person who has ever argued a with a credit card company over a charge, they may be dangerous also. They don't understand or care to understand terrorist can and will get weapons know matter what any law ever passed says.
They have spent the last few months probing the citizenry. Everytime they tried something that came up against stiff oppostition they backed off. Like Eric Holder wanting to reinstate the assault weapons ban or the gun problem in Mexico being a gun availability problem here. This may just be another learning experience for them. I think they are gathering info to finally get some sort of legislation we can find "common ground" on as Obama has become fond of saying lately. This probably won't go through. But be sure they won't go away! Be vigilant!

Bubba Explains Gun Bans. 2-22-2007
Howdy again partners! I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Things are going great here in the right ventricle of the heart of flyover country. Effin' A Skippy! I've decided to take a look at the issue of gun ownership in today's column. Why? Well, it just seems to me too many people don't understand the role guns play in this world. So I, Bubba, am going to explain it to you. Here it goes.
You may or may not know this, but many cities across the United States have passed laws that ban various forms of gun ownership with some banning gun ownership by private citizens entirely. Ok, fair enough. The various folks of those cities elected people to pass the kind of laws they want passed and I guess that is what happened. I have to ask you this question, though. Have you heard of one of those cities that has also passed a law banning the police from carrying guns? Heck no!. Those police in cities where private gun ownership is banned are armed to the teeth just like the police in cities where gun ownership is allowed. You should ask yourself why. I mean, come on, in cities where gun ownership is banned, no one has guns right? Ha ha! Right…..
Now I know it's cliché, but everyone who has a clue knows that when you ban gun ownership, the only people who don't have guns are law abiding folks. It's the old outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns argument. How can anyone in his or her right mind debate this point? Exactly! Anyone in his or her right mind can't. That is why the politicians in cities that have banned guns allow the police to keep carrying guns. Those politicians know that gun bans only take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens.
What cracks me up even more about the cities that have banned guns are the cities that from time to time offer gun "buyback" programs with no strings attached. In other words, those city officials are admitting in a round about way that the bans don't work. The bans don't work so those city officials offer the illegal gun owners the opportunity to sell their illegal guns to the city. The city is legally buying illegal guns….and the illegal gun owners are selling illegal guns legally to the city. What the hell? It's mind boggling. If the law abiding citizens tried some b.s. scheme like this they'd be locked up so fast there'd only be criminals, police, and government officials left. Everyone else would be in prison.
What does this mean to law abiding citizens who live where guns are banned? It means those law abiding citizens are getting the shaft my friend. The police have guns. The criminals have guns. The government officials either have guns or are guarded by people who have guns. It means those law abiding citizens have surrendered their right and privilege to protect themselves to others who may not always have the best intentions.
Many of you probably believe that the greatest power you have as a citizen is the right to vote and in most cases that is true; however, you must ask yourself one question. Who gave you that right to vote? Effing A Skippy! It was men with guns. Now get this. Do you know who can take that right to vote away? Effing A Double Skippy! Men with guns. Are you catching my drift here? Are you picking up what I'm puttin' down? Let me put it in basic terms.
Whoever controls the weapons controls the power. It's that simple. Currently, there are enough legal gun owners that the politicians, well, most of them, wouldn't think of doing anything that might cause another American revolt. It should always be that way.
Wow, my brain hurts so I'll end with this. Do you want to be a man or woman controlled by criminals, government officials, or police who have guns or do you want to be a law abiding citizen gun owner who keeps criminals, government officials, and police that possess guns under control?

DC take note of the following, I have LEFT the Republican party because they no longer represent me. I consider myself a Conservative Independent and would like a new party, the Conservative Independent Party. Take each candidate based on values and principles. Anything else just allows a new set of partisans to hide behind party ideology when they may not individually espouse our values. The first paradigm I think many of us still need to forget is that there are any party differences at all, basically. Only degrees of the same Progressivism. I like to call them all members of the Opportunist Party.

To those who are for a gun ban. Let me explain something to you from a criminals perspective. I grew up and still have connections with criminals that have lost there right to bear arms. Criminals are for gun bans becuase it would guarantee that they would be the only ones to own one. Which would make it easy as pie to rob, rape, and kill law abiding citizens. Why is this so? As long as the Police and Military have weapons, criminals will have them. I can make a phone call and in 24 hours or less recieve a police or military issued weapon. Lets just say for arguments sake that they do ban all weapons including military and police. All criminals need is a blueprint and machinery to make one. Criminals don't care what law is passed if the want something they will get it. and there is no military or police force big enough to stop them. The only people gun bans unarm are law abiding citizens trying to protect them selfs. There is no law or ban that can stop someone that don't care about law.
I used to work with a man who killed a burglar in his home, at night. I live in Oklahoma and we have had a Make My Day law for years. As a result of the make my day law, burglars here in Oklahoma figured out that it is a bad idea to attempt to burglarize a home during the night so they now attempt to commit their crimes during the day, when they think no one will be home. The criminals fear honest, armed, law abiding citizens. Many politicians fear honest, armed, law abiding citizens. It is ironic isn't it?

Correct. Criminals are looking for the easiest victim to hit. If criminals didn’t know whether a victim was armed or not they would think twice before committing a random crime. Unfortunately being armed only lessens the odds, nothing can give you an absolute guarantee. There are very smart criminals out there, who instead of going to college and getting a degree have instead gotten a degree in crime. They will adapt, but at least a armed law abiding citizen has a chance. As far as politicians they get degrees in how to change opinion or how to maneuver around the majority. If we were unarmed they could pass any law they see fit, because there would be no fear of a revolt or revolution. The citizens would be at the mercy of the government with no way to fight back when the civil means are founding fathers left us to fight with fail.
YOU need to keep educating people. You have a unique perspective that many of us do not and from that perspective people can relate. There are those of us who have never broken a law, yet are rebels in their defiance, there are those who live on the edge of law and then those who refuse to respect it. One can learn a great deal from anyone in any of the groups mentioned. People need to hear your wise advice, so keep speaking it please.
Until the government shuts me down or I breath my last breath I will continue. Fortunately middle class, upper middle class, rich and politicians do not have see what goes on in the neighborhoods of lower classes. Unfortunately this leaves them blind to what happens in the majority of the world, what is the real world to many.
I think that is very true. Most of the worst bad guys these days are way beyond personal weapons and more into WMDs I think and ways to hit with maximum media coverage. Nowadays a solitary shooting is not news. I don't doubt that criminals can easily lay hands on weapons. So can I. So can just about any kid who has ever had an interest in high school.
What I think this legislation is about is not to restrict those within the USA, but rather to curtail the bigtime trade that goes on with folks abroad.
We used to live near a gun broker in NW Indiana who got shut down by the DEMS in IL. He was actively selling, buying and trading all sorts of weapons, including those that are/were banned. What was even more troubling wasn't the stockpiles of weapons in the store, but the tons of ammo that were coming and going from just about everywhere. The ammo was not for single shot hunting weapons, but rather clips of ammo for automatics. Just like the mob traversed in liquor 75 years ago under prohibition, these folks were doing it in fairly plain view, with a Better Business Bureau stamp of approval. All it took is an owner who had the interest and his brother who pursued all legal wranglings. Eventually, they were put out of business by Obama's Krewe of lawyer big shots in Chicago. Are we any safer here because the place was shuttered. No. In fact, quite the contrary. Crime is UP, big time around here. And the gun shop owners just went further away from the big city and is reportedly still in operation about 30 miles from here.

Have you folks read this entire bill? The AG won't even have to give up the information (to you or the court) he used to make his determination. The NRA is pretty much silent on this so far. They should be jumping up and down screaming at the top of their lungs how unconstitutional this bill is, we should as well. How can anyone see this as anything but a fear mongering gun grab?
