  1. I think Lynard Skynard said it best in their song, "Things Goin On" "…They're going to ruin us all by and by. I'm tellin' all of you beware, I don't think they really care. I think they just sit up there and just get high…" .

As Glenn pointed out on his TV show yesterday, it's only a matter of time before they come after YOUR little subgroup and annihilate it through taxation. Call it what you will, it's nothing short of theft of liberty and personal choice.

  2. JansKid says:

So how is this NOT raising "even one dime" taxes on people making less than $250,000 per year?

  3. savage1701 says:

Here's something the liberal eco-frreaks MAY understand. The economy is a delicate ecosystem. All things start and end with zero. It's about balance. Too many fish in the pond and they'll start eating eachother! Hmmm…any coincidence that crime is up?

This country didn't rocket to prosperity through socialism. This country didn't become a super power because the egalitarians tied the hands of capitolism. The United States, through reason and common sense – via our Founding Fathers, recognized that – in short – liberty leads to prosperity.
Obama and the liberal democrates, even if through "good intentions", are erroding our freedoms. They are stealing from the next generation through outrageous taxes. Worse yet, those up and coming generations wont know what freedom is (was) because they wont have grown up with it. If you raise a child locked in a room and slide food under the door every day, well, that is all they'll know of life. They wont know to question, "Is there something more?"
Texas, Utah, and Montana, I am here if you need me….for ANYTHING!
    Freedom isn't free….

  4. dianak says:

Let me try some logic here…
    1. We the people give bailout money to banks –they charge us higher fees and give away our money to CEOs(criminal??)
    2. We the people give bailout money to auto companies — they close down dealerships and lay off workers (great for the jobless ratings????)
    3. We the people are expected to pay bailout money to California because they can't figure it out themselves (hey- let Oprah, and the movie stars take care of their own business…they can afford more than we the people of SC)
4.. We the people pay higher taxes to smoke, drink – ??what?? We can't tax the Bonuses of CEO's because that would unfairly single out a certain group of people…..???confusing and not logical

  5. RowaneT says:

I think its about pitchfork time. Or maybe, perhaps, baseball bat time. The worthless congress-critters quit listening to their constituents YEARS ago.
Heck, every time I call my "representative" or "senator" I'm put on hold for about 5 minutes and then the line goes dead. Same thing happens with the Governor's office and all the way down to the "City "select men".
    NO ONE LISTENS ANY MORE!

  6. adnap1 says:

I am old enough to remember what we fought for during WWII. It was not a nanny state! For the first 40 years of my life I could not afford all the things that everone says not to do now, because of "carbon offsets" Well I feel I have earned the right to use paper towels, klenex, paper plates, and plastic glasses for the next 40 years.

  7. RowaneT says:

You folks seem to be missing the point. No matter if these things DO cause death, its not the right, or responsibility, of the Feds to level a punitive tax on these things.
This is all part of that "slippery slope" everyone talks about. once they start punitive taxation they'll just keep finding more and more to tax.

    • tvlgds says:

Actually, I didn't miss the point. I just get my knickers in a knot when people claim THEIR vices don't cause death when, indeed, they do. Just to show some of the stupidity in taxation….before I left CA they had passed a \”junk food\” tax. Muffins were not taxed, yet cupcakes were. The ingredients could be exactly the same, but if it was shaped and marketed as a muffin instead of a cupcake, it wasn't taxed. I ate many a chocolate/chocolate chip \”muffin!\”

  8. RowaneT says:

I'll volunteer to work any conservative politician's campaign if they promise to end this crap by executive order on the first day in office.

  9. swtVabreez says:

as long as i pay for my own health care (and pay dearly for it i might add) it's my business if i choose to smoke, drink,or drink coke, bottom line is i'm already paying for all that.what they need to start doing is eliminate welfare period or make it like unemployment, temporary.

this country and the politics of this administration has gotten so out of hand that it's scarey beyond belief.i never thought i'd see the day when alot of this crap would actually happen.

  10. OKTroy says:

HEY APPEASER-IN-CHIEF, IF YOU'RE GONNA TAX SOMETHING WHY DON'T YOU START WITH PORN?

HOW MANY LIVES HAS THAT CRAP RUINED? HUH?

CAN I GET AN AMEN FROM THE WOMEN OUT THERE?

  11. Great ideas and I think it's only fair to tax the pres and his family for those things.
I also think he should be taxed for unnecessary trips on Air Force 1.
Does he really need to fly to different states every time he wants to give a speech.
He could save money and the environment by giving those speeches at the white house.

    • tbethh says:

But you have to understand….the rules that apply to us are not meant for him. He's Super Obama Man!!
      From: another Angry White Woman…

  12. OldNFO says:

Funny thing about all those "settlement" $$ from the tabacco lawsuits that were supposed to go to state health care systems, guess what, most of them didn't! $6.50 a carton tax will cause some to quit, but really that tax hits those LEAST able to afford it, the poor and working class, who tend to smoke because they have nothing else to do. I'm betting this is just the first of the taxes, according to some of the reports, Cap and Trade will drive my heating and electric bill up over $3500/yr. AND I'm NOT one of the "lucky" ones that got the $13 a pay day rebate… sigh…

    • TXTJ says:

Cap and Trade is just ONE area that is going to cost people when it comes to oil and gas, which is a NEW sin tax. Remember the Bush tax cuts, well Bush actually put those in place for the oil and gas industry to pass on to the consumer. WHEN those stop, you're really going to see prices soar. So everyone who complained about the mean ol oil and gas companies are going to see how useful those tax cuts really were. Trust me, oil and gas is my industry and we've been beaten with a stick for too many years. Sin tax, well turn that thermostat under 80 and you'll really feel the sin tax. Pull out that checkbook and hand it over to Obama cause he has his pen ready.

      • TXTJ says:

P.s. I may have to start drinking to forget about all this mess.

      • Don says:

I am already paying $2.49.9 per gallon for gas now. I pay between 200-300 dollars per month for A/C during the summer. I live on SS and Military retired pay (enlisted, which means not much) and I work part time to put food on the table. Where am I supposed to get all this extra money. Smoking is my only extra expense. If I give that up and sit at home, I will still need money for food. Where is that coming from?? I do NOT want government bail outs.

Somehow, I will support my family. Thanks obama and congress. You really know how to take care of the American citizens!!

    • OldNFO says:

TXTJ- I know- My family has been in the "oil bidness" since the 1920s… I'm the poor cousin since I did a military career :-) Don, I feel your pain also, I'm a retired Navy Mustang, and I'm still working for the same reason. I can't draw SS for another 4 years, and quite honestly, I'm not sure it will be there when I need it. Thanks for your service Sir!

  13. TXNSarge says:

Smoke and drink? What about cussing? Why don't they tax cussing dam it? Remeber the old joke? I don't cuss, smoke or drink………..dam, I left my cigarette in the bar! Tax me dam it, tax me more…I wanna be a good patrtiotic tax payer!! Dam it to hell!!

  14. TXNSarge says:

Whoa, I guess Nobama and Uncle *hic* Teddy are in trouble now. Money outta their deep pockets.

  15. Walt1 says:

I like your spirit American Only but in an age of "Relativism" there is no such thing as a lie, just ask BJ Clinton what the meaning of is, is. I think trying to collect a lie tax would be just about as efficient as the IRS. With a bastard child tax you have DNA proof, with educational malpractice you have physical truth, with the democrat tax you have evidence of class envy, and so on, but lying…lying is a word in metamorphisis towards functional obsolecence.

  16. TexasT says:

It is not the People's fault for our polluted air.
Does anyone realize the quantity of pollution left in the atmosphere from Rockets and Jet Engines???? Astonishing.

I remember when diesel was half (1/2) the price of gas. The came the Jet and Rocket age.
But, of course, we the people are to blame and must pay the price. $$$$$

So the Fed wants to TAX us for our "bad habits". Watch out people, this is a "smoke screen" to hide what
Government is really really messing up.

Is smoking good for you??? — NO—. It will probably kill me when I'm about 85. But there are DRUGS available
in this little one horse town I live in that would kill me in 6 months were I using them. Guess there are too many Politicians making money off Drugs to get serious about stopping it.
Most doctors say a moderate glass of red wine each day is good for your health. I think they are right.

Do you guys realize we are paying TAX for the air be breath and have been for 50 years??????

It's my life not theirs. If I've got the money and don't bother anyone else, guess what part of my body they can KISS.

  17. Minuteman79 says:

We need to stop the debate about how to pay for healthcare, and return to the debate on public vs. private healthcare…As for taxing my alcohol…I know how to brew my own…you gonna tax that too? Good luck. This would be a great time for a real tea party…Instead of throwing tea over board a ship, perhaps we should fill the streets with nasty sticky soda pop, and let the flys do the talking for us…hmmmm? What say you patriots?

    • ArmyMama says:

Home brew, a great solution. The problem is: they will need something ELSE to tax when we stop smoking, start home-brewing and quit drinking soda. WHAT WILL IT BE?

      • Donuts, Snickers, M&Ms, Milky Way, Almond Joy, Mounds, Twix, Blizzards and the infamous Twinkie. Brace yourself comrade. It is only fair, our children are too obese, they can't even burn off a bag of M&Ms while playing their computer games. Our glorious leader will punitively tax sweets in a loving effort to get our kids off their duffs and exercise. Remember comrade, we're doing it for the children.

    • I like your idea of brewing your own but will skip the soda party. I guess we will have to be more like the founding fathers who brewed their own beer.

    • tbethh says:

hey, can u give me let me in on how to brew my own?? lol

    • Don says:

Remember, the sugar for your home brew will be highly taxed. So, yes they will tax your home brew. Just wait, ATF will be raiding the home stills too.

  18. Minuteman79 says:

We need to stop the debate about how to pay for healthcare, and return to the debate on public vs. private healthcare…As for taxing my alcohol…I know how to brew my own…you gonna tax that too? Good luck.

  19. bawnyfwank says:

I remember on the campaign trail Obama telling us all that 95% of Americans would recieve a tax CUT.
So he is making good on that, I have a whole $13 per week more. It's no longer being taxed when we make it but they are taxing the hell out of it when we spend it.

You know how you can tell when a politician is lying? When their lips are moving. He would have made a great car salesmen.

  20. klucka says:

What happens when the government achieves what it wants and controls the decisions we make to the point where no one smokes, drinks alcohol or sugared drinks, eats at McDonalds because of the punishing taxes? Oh, I know- health care costs will go down because we are all engaging in healthier activities so the loss of tax revenue will be made up for by lower healthcare costs… win-win for everyone right?

So here is the question that no one will ask…. what about the jobs of the liquor store clerks, soft drink bottlers, fast food employees…. how much will it cost me to support them while they are on welfare/ unemployment?

  21. Don't forget the carbon tax. Guess we need to figure out a way to exhale something else.
Also love the way you can't smoke in California but they want to legalize pot so they can tax that. It's NUTS !!

  22. Endstatism says:

This idea of raising taxes on alcohol, tobacco, sugar, caffeine, salt and anything else deemed "unhealthy" has been floating around leftist circles for years. Then First Lady Hillary Clinton stated in 1993 that it would be a good thing if taxes were imposed and increased on all those previously named food items in testimony given before a House committee. And guess who is going to get hit hard with all these taxes, the very poor and working families that Obama supposedly fights for.

  23. OldMarine says:

    Congress = Power + Money = America $cewed

  24. medgirl says:

Are we going to be allowed to keep any of our hard earned dollars or does the Tyrant in Chief have to have every damn penny we make so that he can do anything he wants and run anything he wants because he thinks he is better than all of us. I wish all the producers and people of value could disappear and leave no money for Obama

  25. 1776time says:

This is about more than taxes and health. It's about the government controlling every aspect of our personal lives by taking away our rights and freedoms, first by over taxation, then by law. Sounds like it's time for stills and personal tobacco farms. I suppose this will help organized crime become larger than ever. They can blackmarket cigarettes and alcohol and we can have a 1930's era again, with "speak easy " rooms and all.
Wait to they come around and want the 2010 Census information this year. There will be NO COOPERATION from me. I've had enough of the pinheads and crooks in Washington.

  26. MattFaub42 says:

This is complete hypocrisy on the side of liberals. They claim they want health care for all because every person deserves health care, which is right in some aspects. However, to tax those who do have health care to fund a system to provide health care to those who don't is simply wrong. It vilifies and demonizes those who are fortunate enough to have health care, and who have rightfully earned it through HARD WORK. This is how the statist passes these social programs, by turning those who are wealthy into the enemy. You look at the oil companies, the banks, the tobacco companies…etc etc the list goes on. Liberals have turned these people into the enemy because they are wealthy. They turn public opinion against these companies who have been able to capitalize in the free-market in amassing wealth, and suddenly making money and becoming rich is bad in America. America was built on opportunity. Opportunity to create wealth for yourself, but nowadays it seems like those who do create, invent, and innovate are vilified for their hard work in living the American Dream. Now our government is attacking people for their healthcare… their livelihood, and they claim to say that they represent the people and their best interest. No sir, they are out for their agenda… they will push the constitution until it breaks, or until we break them. It's your call America.

  27. Hobbes says:

I like goldnhorde's comment on luxury tax. Tried replying to his post 3 times without it showing up. Going to try it it this way. Maybe, it'll get in:

I like that goldnhorde. Good idea. I haven't been to a movie theatre in years. So, since I don't "movie go", I'm the same as people who "don't smoke". And, since people who don't smoke think it's a good idea to tax smokers. I think it's a good idea to tax movie goers.
It's a twofer for me, I get to make judgments about movie goers and see them taxed. Also, non-smokers and Hollywood will understand what it's like to lose freedoms. Just a GREAT idea!

  30. Last week I sent in my taxes for the year, over 15k, from the time I sent the check to
the time the IRS cleared the check 4 days. I am sure it took about .00000001 of a second
for our government to spend my taxes, its all gone and all the money everyone sent in
this month and last is also gone.

We are broke you all need to understand that point

  31. Texan2 says:

Patriots, this is ONLY THE START. ANYTHING that MIGHT increase your chances of needing health care will be regulated by the Government. Smoke? Pay more taxes, drink? Pay more taxes. Eat fried food? Pay more taxes. Ride a motorcycle? Pay more taxes. Work with powertools? Pay more taxes. Own a backyard pool? Pay more taxes. Buying a ladder? Pay more taxes. Ski? Pay more taxes. Own a boat? Pay more taxes. Mow your own lawn? Pay more taxes. You get my drift, we are marching down a path to total facism where any and all your actions and activities can be classified as needing regulation, limitation or prohibiton by an out-of control Government. In a quest to keep us healthy and alive, FREEDOM sickens and dies.

  32. what are all ya'll worried about , don't ya'll know only people making $250,000 sin. I heard Obama say no one making under $250,000 will pay 1 cent in taxes. so you see only rich people sin and the rest of us have nothing to worry about.

  33. NJIAGirl says:

I've said it before and I will say it again, it is NOT my responsibility to pay for health care for children that don't have it in this country. I am a Smoker and I will continue to smoke, because it's my choice. I don't have kids, because I cannot afford to have kids. My choice was easy, can't pay to feed them, can't pay to house them, can't give them healthcare- then I have no business bringing them into this world. Why can't anyone just say it, it's not my problem. I should NOT and will NOT be held responsible for someone else's choice to have kids-if you cannot afford to have them-Don't Have Any. By the way, I don't have HealthCare for myself either, & can't afford to get it, but since my Health Issue of Smoking is being exploited to pay for children's Healthcare, shouldn't I and all the smokers who are supporting these children with the Taxes on our Bad Health Choice be given Free Healthcare also? Where does this end? This is Stupid and No one wants to say it, but I will.

    • MissR says:

You are not alone in your sentiments. i also do not have children and am quite tired of paying to take care of others kids!

  34. stang289 says:

i guess after 17 years of not smoking i should start again so i can pay my fare share !! NOT!!!!!!!!!

    • 6655321 says:

However, smoking has now become a viable form of protest….boycotting no longer works because of 'too big to fail'. Just a thought.

  35. Gregory says:

They make govt work seem like a lifetime of goodies. Wait a sec, it is. I would love to see them start to pay like everyone else. You can't "feel our pain" if they are numbed by freebies.

    • OldMarine says:

You know what's sad, Our military get's paid only if congress passes a budget and gives themselves raises, they get 5-10%, military 1-3%, They get pay retirement pay after only 2 or 6 yrs, the military after 20. Now, the way I figure it, the military has a harder job, but I might be a little biais.

  36. Here's an idea:
So this plan is going to cost over a trillion dollars that you don't have.
And you are having a difficult time finding something to tax to raise the money.
Maybe that's a sign that this plan shouldn't happen.
STOP LOOKING FOR MORE THINGS TO TAX
    AND
DON'T SPEND MONEY YOU DON'T HAVE.
The government should set an example for us all and work within the budget they have.
Obama told the public that credit cards aren't free money.
Well, my hard-earned money isn't free money for the government to take and use.

    • LARBO says:

i feel that all local srate and federal elected officals should take a pay cut pay for there benys and if cut get caught lyling or somthing illeagel u shouls be fired

    • hoedaddy says:

Thats to lodgical. They don't think that way. They [Obamaites] want total control over every aspect of our lives which is a deffinition of tyranny.

  37. hiatttn says:

I always thought it would be fun to run liquor and be a bootlegger. Of course I probably couldn't make it pay good enouph to pay for the fuel these days.

  38. hiatttn says:

Our founding fathers were blowing peoples heads off because they had to pay a tax on tea. Think about it.

  39. hiatttn says:

I work hard, I've served my country, and I contribute to society by taking care of myself and providing a product that people need to survive. I like to drink a beer and smoke a cigarette every day after work. After all that I have done I dont think its to much to ask for. I just want to be left alone.

  40. hiatttn says:

This will turn into an illegal enterprise. High vice taxes are almost the same as prohibition. People will distill thier own liqouer or buy it from criminals which will cause crime to rise, which will be a burden to our tax system. It's like california wants to legalize mary J because they can collect taxes off of it. I dont think this will work for them and I'll tell you why. If they get it through they will overreach and restrictions on the new industry will burden it to where it will be cheaper to buy it from criminals. Then they will overtax it. Then they will have to spend more money trying to control it.

  41. TaxiDude says:

In this state, NM, we have an illegitimate birth rate around 50%, a high school dropout rate near 50%, kids with crack pipes and automatic weapons and these fools want to talk about taxing beer and cigars ! America.. .we've got a problem.

  42. Nomarxism says:

Lets heavily tax everything. You can see how well it worked in California. They are on the brink of bankruptcy.

    • I live in CA and if we could relocate, we would. Hopefully, the special election (1A-1F) this tues 5/19 will go down in flames. The state and local governments could balance the budget, but they continue to spend too much, tax too much, too many state employees(300, 000 +) and of course the good old entitlement class that lives in this state. For example, you can get disability if you are an alcoholic. Illegals are encouraged when they come to this state to get welfare benefits. It goes on and on. On the flipside, CA is a beautiful state with much to do and a great layed back west coast lifestyle.

      • New Taxes for you folks out in sunny California.

Let's introduce the next Cabinet appointees.. The Wonder Pets.. Why not? "What's gonna work? TEAMWORK"….. Sadly they would probably do a better job.. and all for a stick of celery..

  43. Anyone know what a case of beer is Canada costs? I was told today a case of beer in Canada is $43. She said we were lucky. Get ready, coming to a store near you. Maybe not this week or next, but one day. Of course it will only be for our own good. Think first…..if your thoughts are clear and pure you should act. You will not be alone.

  44. Dave48763 says:

When I see the taxs we are yet to get ,and Congress,Obama does NOTHING,,,look at real facts:,,

This year over 40% of our GDP will be the cost of the debit we are UNDER,,not the balance, just what we OWE 40% of 1 years production as a nation,( yearly national income),,

Next year and expected to be even higher is 60% of our nations total year income,,,yes,,expected under the most pos outlook,,the worse is 80% and thats with a safe margin,,,Our nations credit rating of 3 stars right now is of concern,,,yet next year if things are spent as they plan, and raise the taxs as Obama is requestiong to increase the goverment size 16% larger,,,LOOK OUT INFLATION,LOOK out ART INFLATED STOCK MARKET,,,( yes,,,a shot of tax dollars injected into the STOCK MARKET to create a false sence of its GETTING BETTER is only fooling OBAMA,as Wall st and investers are smarter than elected officals in gov any day,,why do you think Sec Treas GIETNER was on hand and working so cheap,,,Wall st does not even truts him,,,

Pleas ebe careful in investing,,,our nation will over come this,,as we are AMERICANS,,,but our corrupt gov is only worried about the PARTY LINE,and IINTER PARTY FIGHTING more than the needs of AMERICA,,other wise they would be honest with us,,,look for more Obama TOWN MEETINGS as hes still tring to sell a car that is used and only driven to sunday school,by a littleold lady,,,yea right Obama,,,CONGRESS,,,

  45. Tntsgram says:

Alcohol should be taxed as much as cigs, people have been brainwashed for years about smoking, however, maybe other pollutants (i.e., exhaust from cars, trucks and buses; chemicals spewing from factories, etc.) are the real cause of the deaths that have been attributed to smoking. People who are grossly obese cannot sit back and say 'I don't smoke' so 'my illnesses are not my fault.' There are so many people that live on t.v. dinners, fast food, etc., that are overweight. Believe me, they cost all of us dearly with their heart disease, strokes, and diabetes as well. One group (smokers) should not be singled out to pay for all of it. Junk food is allowable on food stamps, go figure. In fact, things that make you obese (colas, candy bars, potato chips) should also be taxed as much as cigs, if the point is truly to make people tow a tight line on what is or is not good for them. Gluttony, sloth, lust (smut magazines and movies), drunkeness (sp) are also 'sins' so, if government is going to tax 'sins' then tax them all fairly.

  46. jm2387 says:

It's a good thing Glenn taught me how to wrap my head in duct tape. There is so much going on by the minute that I think my head is going to explode. There is so much that Glenn and Fox News isn't commenting about. I heard about a Congresswoman (didn't catch the name) who prepared a letter protesting the water boarding. She asked Pelosi to sign it and Pelosi refused.

I think the car company reorganizations are an abomination. Obama is putting more people out of work. My daughter-in-law works for Chrysler Financial. They wouldn't take bailout money so they are being pushed out. Obama is closing 3,000 dealers. Each dealer employs an average of 50 people. You do the math. Of course they are not UNION employees. The Chicago Thug, Illegitimate President, is in the UNION's pocket. Are you a Union Member. Where does your weekly union dues go? Do you pay Union Dues so you can back Political Campaigns? Wake up before it's too late. Obama is intentionally bankrupting our country. A reasonable individual cannot draw any other conclusion. I gotta go. I need to reinforce my duct tape.

PS. Yes. That is a Cross on my hat. I am a God Fearing Christian. I am looking for shirts and other items to emphasize that fact when I am in public. Only two individuals died for you. Jesus died for your sins and the American Soldier died for your FREEDOM! GOD BLESS AMERICA.

  47. nlb says:

Bouttogo, how I agree with you. There is someone pulling the strings and the chosen one is the
puppet. How many times has he changed his mind over something he said before? That's because
bho got the information wrong the first time, and had to correct himself per the puppeteer.

  48. I am going to DEMAND "Health Care Offsets"!!!!! ;)

I have been a vegetarian for 30, out of my 41 years… I do not smoke, or drink… have never used drugs… and, somehow… I have still managed to have a lot of fun!!!!! ;)

I WANT MY DANG OFFSETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

    • crazycheftx says:

GOD BLESS YOU CITY GIRL, i want you to have all the offsets you deserve. you can have mine too.
as i said before, i think you should have all the carbon credits from which ever congressperson represents you. you see, that person gives off more CO2 than 3 really big bovines

    • 6655321 says:

You are getting offsets…you don't have to pay any of the sin taxes. None of the new age saints do. Hitler also was a vegetarian, and did not smoke or drink (and was equally proud of it) He was also in favor of 'sin taxes'.

      • IvoryGate says:

What, like not smoking or doing drugs is NOT something to be proud of? Your use of the hitler comparison is digressive and highly offensive – as if his vegetarianism had anything to do with genocide. The biggest sin is not smoking, drinking, or taking drugs – it would be doing those things and then expecting people like ShiningCityGirl to pay the price for the repercussions.

      • Oh my!!! Wouldn't my mother be so proud, that you just promoted this Jewish Princess
        to "Sainthood"!!! ;)

        God bless you!!! ;)

  49. There Has to be a Stop put to this B.S going on ,Who in the Hell does this guy think he is ,It dont make a darn bit of difference to me He is My President ..This Crap his Insane ..What we have here folks is A huge Problem ,and this guy thinks he his doing us any good with all his POLICES ,not just a ciggarette tax but ALL of his absolutly insane tricks him and his Felon freinds are pulling on our country ,How in the world did this happen!! They say his approvale numbers are strong ,Just were are they Polling ..The People that are going to benefit from him..im truly starting to think He is working for alqueda or Iran or the taliban ,!!!

    • Gregory says:

I listened to his comments yesterday, and my jaw dropped to my chest when he said "the stars are in alignment"!! Does anyone remember how he kidded when he said he didn't need an astrologer (a swipe at Nancy Reagan), and as it turns out……….he is one. Where is the outrage that our president is ruling via astrology? This man continues to astonish me, and even more, the media confounds me because they say nothing of this, but when Reagan used them, he was persecuted. Jeezzzz, talk about the blind allegiance by those of the news media (poparotzy). Seriously, he is fawned over everywhere he goes and it is disgusting.

    • tbethh says:

Iv'e been agreeing with your last sentence for over 100 days.

    • chevy400 says:

ive said it before HE is the next attack. ( check my profile ) has everyone forgot his bow to saudie king?

  50. Are moonshine and black market cigarette sales going to start profiting if taxes keep rising on our supposed sins?
Why pay full price for sin when you can buy it at a bargain? Of course, you then add to your sins by sinning against our new god spelled g-o-v-e-r-n-m-e-n-t.

  51. nlb says:

I think we are going backwards, everyone, to the mid 1770's. We may have to have a revolution to get our
country back from those who wish us harm. Start getting a survival kit ready for the long days ahead. Don't
forget to arm yourselves. This country has gone absolutely crazy since the chosen one took the "lead"
Everyday and I mean everyday something else happens that makes my blood boil. This country is
greatly divided like never before. We have compulsive liars in the government, who wouldn't even know
how to tell the truth. I see nothing good happening in the next couple of months/years.

  52. RageforOrder says:

Would our founders stand for this?If they saw our country today, they would roll over in their graves. They would say what was the point of the American Revolution? We are in a country today that taxes and is more opressive than the America under Britain. The only thing that is keeping me back is the slight hope that this can be reversed in the 2010 election. If we lose that election,I don't know what I am going to do,all I know is it won't be good.

  53. tehee says:

I have had it! I have reached my end…are they talking another $2 above the increase they just made?

Then theres alcohol, next is coke. And I am sorry if we are offered health insurance through my husbands company that we PAY for! We don't get for free, and the flex spending account we USE to pay for all the out of pocket stuff! Excuse me, WERE on this green earth where any of these buttheads when my husband lost his job! No one was reachin across the isle to help my children, one of which has special medical needs. But above that I don't think anyone is responsible for my family but me. I am not talking about not helping people who have never asked for it. I am talking about all those people that I have seen LIVE off the system. Those clever individuals I have watched even when my own family struggled play the game and get every last dime they could for free while they sat at home drinking and having a gay ol time. NO not my responsiblitly! Also what did our founders think of taxation….

  54. Taxes are needed to pay for all the pensions in our Government workers.
You know, work 20 years and get paid for life 90% of your base salary of which is @80,000.00 per year by the time you retire at age 50 and collect $72,000.00 pension plus benefits, and then take another job in some cozy position with the State of Federal Government and start at some rate say $85,000.00 per year and since you already have benefits, the state of federal government saves $30,000.00 a year because benefits are not needed by you and then work on your second pension program.
The Bubble has broken people and to stop the bleeding by States and Federal Governments, they need to raise taxes on everything to pay for all the pensions and don’t forget the Benefits.
WAKE UP AMERICA, IT CAN’T GO ON FOREVER.
Write your state and federal elected officials and tell them to stop all this madness of tax increases and passing bill that are bankrupting this country.

  55. Comrades! Rejoice! Our glorious Fuhrer has finally delivered our Womb-to-the-Tomb utopia! Comrade Clinton couldn't do it, but the Anointed One has! Tobacco and Alcohol are totally legal product, but they are a strain on our health care system. The Obomination will SUBJECT them with punitive taxes; he'll make sure that these people will pay their fair share of the burden.

He will also tax Big Sugar. Sugar is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil, I don't need to remind you of that comrades; it causes obesity! Cookies, donuts, Coca-Cola, Snickers, M&Ms will be heavily taxed. Our kids are too big, they don't exercise enough. Instead of enjoying the outdoors they sit in front of their TV's playing video games or they surf the dangerous web. We don't want them to acquire diabetes.

Thus we will tax all video game systems as well as computers of all kinds! Our children will be forced to go outside and enjoy the outdoors and burn off that bag of M&Ms that they couldn't before; providing their parents can afford to buy them that bag after the Sugar tax is passed.

Again, comrades, rejoice! Isn't he wonderful?

  56. OKTroy says:

Looks like the Appeaser-In-Chief won't be on the cover of Cigar Aficianado any time soon.

  57. Heather777 says:

Doesn't Obama smoke? Anyway, I am a smoker and have been for too long. I'm just going to cut them off! I've been wanting to quit for a while and since my brand is already over $5 a pack this is just more motivation for me to quit. What really chaps me is the proposed sugar tax. That's just going to tick people off! They must really want a revolution! The way they are stripping us of our freedoms one by one shows me that they want us to revolt! To me this is what is to be expected with their wonderful (sarcasm) government health care plan. If they are paying for our health, we better not get sick! So, they have to protect us from what can be harmful. Ya know, since the government knows what is best for each and every one of us! Well, I didn't have a big brother growing up, and I still don't need one!

  58. goldnhorde says:

hold on. paying taxes is patriotic. smoking and drinking makes me pay lots of taxes. does that mean drinking and smoking make me more patriotic?

how about this? since it is this luxury tax, how about we hit the movie theatres with some hard and heavy taxes. how about like $4 fedeal tax per ticket. 4.9 million tickets were sold for wolverine. there's 19.6 million right there in one weekend. and that's just domestic. we'll charge this for export too. world wide that has to at least double.

I bet lord of the rings would have raised 500 million tax dollars like this world wide …. and that's just "Return of the King". same for Dark Knight.

I mean if it is about luxury, then let's start talking about luxury.

Or are some hollywood types getting a little scared of how that might hit their wallets?

    • SandraEileen says:

Yes! Thank you, I agree. The movie and sports industry is a luxury. A 50 percent tax should be charged per ticket. Going to a sports game or movie is not a necessary part of life. Hollywood and the Sports industry of course would not like this. It's the do as I say not as I do mentality out in Hollywood. I always ask myself, do I want to give my hard earned money to a celebrity to further causes I don't agree with or let them buy luxuries to pamper themselves or would I like to save that money for myself and treat myself to a luxury. I choose to enrich my life and the lives of those who care about me.

  59. Bouttogo says:

    Scary stuff.
Obama and his wad are quickly gaining control over the banking industry and the automotive industry (Pray for Ford).

Collapse the auto industry and, domino, you eventually knock over most all other industry. If we in the manufacturing sector have no job (read no income), the service industry and eventually the government industry, yes, industry eventually fall.

Obama's puppeteer (one who controls the puppet for you folks on the left) wants total control over all. The government, through their banks, will foreclose on you and me when we can no longer pay our debts and mortgages. Once they have it all, we will beckon their every wish to receive our fair portion of food and shelter.

Once they own your "Fine Home", it may be decided that it is time for someone else to live there. After all, there are many who, through no fault of their own, have never had the "Fine Life".

Enjoy the moment, it is fleeting.

  60. OldMarine says:

Does anyone rember when the passed SCHIP awhile back? It was for the kids and to pay for it they raised the taxes on the mean, nasty smokers and others that use tobacco. Well, someone did a study and it was on Special Report, that the government has to create roughly 200,000 new smokers per year to pay the cost based on taxes. Ironic isn't it, they cry how smoking is so bad, yet they need smokers to fund their health costs. True Catch 22!
"The only difference between death and taxes is that death doesn't get worse every time Congress meets."

  61. If i get a new dog his name will be TAX!!! Here boy!!

  62. glg46 says:

As a history buff I always understood the issues that caused the Civil war but could never understand the helpless feeling that would drive the South to war. I do now…..I'm seeing the country so deeply divided and unwilling to compromise. A government unwilling to litsen to the people, dictating unpopular laws and taking away our constitutional rights. I'm beginning to believe that the only way to get the US back on track may be , God forbid, a civil war

    • RowaneT says:

      let's pray that never comes.
But I know exactly what you mean. I fought communism in the eighties and I hate to see it come here.

  63. OldMarine says:

They did the same thing here in KY. An article in the Communist Journal said that smoking has dropped about 3% in a year. The tax was suppose to pay for health care….I guess you can see where this is going.

  64. powerrc says:

Time to start growing your own tabacco and brewing your own booze. Guess they will have to tax seeds and hops and yeast too. tax, tax, tax and no representation sounds familar don't it
