I watched GB's program last night (Wednesday, 5/13). I was horrified that the Obama administration wants to allow a monopoly in health insurance to form. This is so wrong! I wish the people would care about the transparency of Obama's idea of universal healthcare. It has been a nightmare that there hasn't been any checks and balances during the last four months. We are going to wish that this was a dream, but it is not. We will pay dearly in many ways.
I still want to know why they haven't found a cure/vaccination for cancer. They have come up with a whole lot of treatments, and treatment centers, and treatment specialists, but no obliteration of the disease, inspite of the trillions sunk into research over several decades. The paranoid side of me says it's because there's too much money changing hands in cancer treatment to develop a cancer vaccine.
I just got a glance at the Obama & Pelocie show and I about fell out on her comment that the health care reform is a great Rally call or some Insane coment like that. Are they all totally nuts or what? America rejoice, let the pigons loose, have a toast, we are takong away your Freedom, Liberty, Pride and Destroying the economy isn't this a fantastic? The American People have no say in what the Government is doing that is the bottum line. Congress has no morals or backbone so America has no chance in hell of surviving unless we remove the entire administration and bring the Government to its knees. Then we can rebuild it according to the way our forefathers fought and died for.
you know very well why industry is "on board". the instant the "obama" medical plan is announced, the industries will QUIT carrying or offering it's' employees insurance. just wait and see, anything to balance the costs that they will be saddled with when the union is insconced in the plants. unoins had their place when the industrial age started but now they are only for more wages so they can claim bigger union dues for their leaders.
Has anybody seen the Obama Deception??? It is scary!!!!!!!
i've already seen the Obama deception he has been in office for over 100 really long over taxing days!
Rb, are you currently needing medical care? Have you called the local clinics and asked if they would refuse to see you? Have you tried the local hospital for care? Most hospitals will help you sign up for programs to cover things if you have need.
When you worked you paid into the system, I'd rather you use some funds under existing programs than have a centrally planned system use money for illegal immigrants.
Thank you for your service.
I hope each of us is contacting our Representatives and Senators to express the outrage seen on this site. We can stop this just like we did with Immigration "Reform" awhile back. I know, I know, it's not really stopped, but maybe slowed down. In any case, write to your congress critters and let them know you are watching their votes VERY, VERY carefully!!!
IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO REACH THEM GO TO CONGRESS.ORG! Enter your zipcode and you will be informed!
Please don't feed the troll! Talking to chucky is like talking to a wall. He spouts what he spouts because all fo his experiences in life are thru his mommy's basement window. when you "talk" to him, you only encourage his preteen behavior. Just a thought!
If the government controls our health care, THEY will decide if you are "research" or "curable". THEY will decide if you are worthy or undesirable. YOUR LIFE will depend on wealth, age, race, gender, intellectual status, political stance, social status, and etc. Guidelines will be set just as DHS has recently set for those deemed a "threat" to national security.
If the government controls health care they will in effect own our bodies.
There is NO freedom that would be immune from their regulations then because ultimately EVERYTHING can somehow be traced to "health care costs".
Banning trans-fats, sugar, coffee, guns, motorcycles, video games, etc can ALL be covered by the "health care costs" the ban will lower.
I can no longer believe the naivety in this country today. I say this because so many people are incapable of learning from the past. Even if those lessons were as recent as the last couple months. The big banks, AIG, General Motors, and Chrysler were all eager to welcome the government when the writing was on the wall. I would bet my next paycheck that their opinions would be far different today than the hour in which they welcomed the government with open arms. Now the Healthcare industry with all the short term memory one could muster is welcoming the same thing. I would say let them get what is coming to them for the shortsidedness they are displaying if it wasn't going to effect the rest of us so adversely. It seems our business holds the same value as our opinion and they want to reduce us to having no choice and being forced into total government corruption.
I'd like to recommend that our representatives in DC receive the SAME healthcare that our veterans are receiving.
That's right, just the same as our men & women who served in uniform.
No "special treatment" and no "cutting in line" for the Reps!
What's that?
You say the VA hospitals don't have the proper equipment to serve the Reps?
That's okay we'll set you up an appointment for a month from now at another VA hospital in another state.
Having served in the Army, I DO appreciate the work the military healthcare workers provided however,
if you put OUR representatives on the "military plan", I'll bet they'd update the care to those who fought to
preserve our freedom.
If OUR representatives "got a taste" of what our Vets have to go through
(which is far better care than you'll get on a "national system"),
I bet they'd re-think trying to nationalize (but of course, OUR Reps already have their own "special
healthcare" so they won't have to worry about the "nationalized plan".
Kind of like retirement.
If OUR Reps didn't have their own "special retirement system" and HAD to depend on Social Security,
I'll bet they'd work REAL HARD to get that straightened out as well!!!!!!
Amen to all of this ksvit, you are so right. If the people of this country knew, I mean really knew all the perks that our reps get they would vote them all out. People just don't realize what all those in the government get. If you serve for more than 4 years in a senate or congressional seat, you get that pay for the rest of your life. They don't pay into social security, yet they take from it. They have the best medical around. If they had the same medical as some of us, maybe they would do something to change it. They vote in their own raises. Ludacris!! These people make too much money, that is all that most of them are in it for.
You hit it spot on. Everycare is what the Gov says it will provide and it'll be like a 9.75 shoe triple wide at the toe and extra narrow at the heel, one size fits all…
If you talk to insurance company employees and people in the Healthcare field you find that NONE of them agree with Obama's plan!! If any of the media wanted to look into this to find the real story; I bet that you would find that people are afraid of the President and talk to him like they would talk to a parent when they were kids. Which is to say if my father asked me if I was having fun doing something I would say, "Yes". Even if I hated what I was doing. Obama has ZERO tolerance for anyone who does not agree with him. I am willing to bet that there are several medical industries and providers that are scared because no matter what they decide to do the outcome is not looking pretty for them.
Congress and the president will always have superior coverage, so they don't need to worry. Where do they propose to get all of this money from? I have worked many years to get health care for a benefit. Now, I have to pay for others to get the same care for free?
What I see with this national plan is death. The committee will choose who is worthy of life. Young and old, disabled or able. The committee will decide.
Then you havent' dealt with the healthcare system. There are mountains of paperwork on the simplest things.
Just as medicare has the billings and statements sent out by indepent contractors, there is going to be huge volumes of cases to be followed and who better to step in and take care of that than insurance companies with UR (utilization review) staff ready and waiting? And no customers to keep happy, just the thought of spiralling backlogs and overtime paid for with no questions asked. And no competition if you get in the good graces of O.
I know this is off subject, but I think we're getting to congress:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/05/12/house-...
Chucky, read the polls again. People approve of Obama, but not his policies.
Also, Obama is not on the ballot in 18 months, it's congress and the senate people not covered by Obama's teflon coloring.
Senators consider taxing employer provided benefits. Hmmm, I thought President Obama was against taxing employer provided health benefits. I wonder where he'll come down with the chips on the table.
Yes, this was a big deal during the election. Obama criticized McCain for suggesting this, stating this "would be the biggest tax on families ever."
i want to know where the man or woman is that will stand up and i am an american, with no party affilitates and run for the country and the people. as far as health care many people do not have because they chose not to have it, they have the money to pay for their health care on their on. any who that is all i have to say on the subject.
Ok, gonna do it here too. Just to engage Chuck and push his post to the bottom. Chuck, feel free to respond if you dare. You want a plan? Here’s one for ya. Let’s take a good look at malpractice insurance hmmm? Doctors and hospitals pay very large premiums to cover against claims. Medicine is not an exact science and therefore human doctors and nurses make mistakes in treatment. However, there are some unscrupulous ones out there, most are dedicated and caring. Now, couple that with the cost of their education, and they have a whopping debt to repay. There are far too many frivolous claims so I support loser pays legislation. What say you?
I think his sponge bob show is on, he'll need to wait until station break to respond.
I attended a lecture where Michael Leavitt was speaking. He said that it is important to always have choices and diversification, and competition is key. This is true about everything from health care to education. I think that it is necessary to keep health care as separate from government control as possible–just like our economy!
Will the "industry" still be on board when they can't even use the bathroom without Obama's permission?
I wonder if his health care plan will work as well as his stimulus plan?
Millions of Americans on Social Security are receiving $250 checks as part of the president’s stimulus plan — including an Anne Arundel woman who died more than 40 years ago.
The woman’s son, 83-year-old James Hagner, said he got the surprise when he checked his mailbox late last week.
“It shocked me and I laughed all at the same time,” Hagner said. “I don’t even expect to get one for myself, and I get one for my mother from 43 years ago?”
His mother, Rose, died on Memorial Day in 1967.
Social Security representatives said there is a good explanation. Of the about 52 million checks that have been mailed out, about 10,000 of those have been sent to people who are deceased.
OMG….talk about falling through the cracks.
I'm curious why the healthcare companies are so willing to concede to the white house on this one. I have the distinct impression that they are not really conceding anything but instead are moving toward a power grab. Even the article states that these are big stakes the companies are giving up, "the medical and insurance sectors are offering unprecedented concessions to the Obama administration"
Always remember, these are businesses. Their sole purpose is to do business. What is the carrot that they see on the end of the string? I don't trust them.
One possible explanation is that this is a pure fascist move. The companies want to join the government in carving up the business into guaranteed markets and eliminate the need for competition. They know something is going to be done and this is a move to attempt to control their future.
I see this a a preemptive strike on the insurance and provider side. Say they are going to cut costs and drop prices to sway the government away from either A.) Taking over them completely or B.) Offering a similar version but much cheaper than private insurance (effectively forcing them out of business). By cutting this amount of money they are attempting to stay in business. And staying in business makes a lot more money than being squeezed out by the government.
I agree. Not a power grab, just trying to hang in until a new admin comes along.
Are you sure that 'all' of health care has conceded to Obama? No one has queried me! I think a few providers who are calling themselves industry leaders want to make an early move to circumvent Obama's thirst for MD's blood. They are offering something they cannot back up. It is a bluff and he is bluffing, too, while taxpayer's chips sit in the pot waiting for someone else to ante up.
Let's stop the game playing. Offer a simple fee for service payment scheme. Quit trying to cover all losses–it is not possible. Let government allow providers to compete and let the market place and consumers have choice.
Say what you like folks but Universal Health care is simply the tail waggin the dog. Put some caps on health care costs & the cost of health care coverage will drop like a rock. It's called competition. There is no real competition in the health care insurance industry because the costs are unknown. Reform health care-not helath care coverage
Oh, and RB60, if someone said you were an unproductive part of society for being laid off-write them off as a moron and forget about it–Good luck to ya!!)
How do people retain their leadership posts when they have presided over the destruction of this party? I agree some people need to go, and Boehner would be a good start.

Ask yourself if we had exhausted the avenues to reform first. I believe tort reform is necessary to get a hold on cost. Loser pays would be a good start. Also that trial lawyers, as John Edwards, should be liable for the junk science used in the court room to win big suits or settlements. You also have to examine the government's role in health care currently. My doctor told me that Medicare doesn't cover his expenses. He said that he might as well see the patient and pay them $10 for showing up. I contend that we are headed for more of the same, except with a societal control aspect.
I'll come clean, I'm an individualist and it almost sounds as if you are replacing quality of life for quantity. I'm sorry, but I'd rather live to be 60 and lived than to be 85 and micromanaged. I promise that I wouldn't complain about the system later if you'd leave me be.
I am waiting for the administration to tell us how they plan to pay for this massive new entitlement. They are broke. Maybe the media could do their job and ask some important questions. The postal service is broke. The medicare system is broke. The social security system is broke…. I believe we are currently playing with monopoly money and our lives are in the balance. My son and his wife are doctors in Detroit. Every day people who need lifesaving cardiac care cross the border from Ontario. The window for successful intervention is 25-30 minutes and Detroit is their only option. Anyone who believes that a government who cannot efficiently run anything, is going to run a health care system without losing quality is deluding themselves. Those of us with chronic diseases will be out on the iceberg right after the elderly are floated out to die. Aristotle61 speaks about the health care lie in great detail. It's similar to all of the other lies that the left and the media perpetuate from global warming to abortion to the decline of conservatism….you name it. They've focus grouped the lingo and they run with it. Maybe we are too naive to compete. Maybe we are too honest to engage them with their own tactics. Maybe we are incapable of winning, but I am fairly certain that is another lie in the making. Bush won two terms. Congress turned over for Bush before the Dems took over in 2006. The Dems have had congressional control for 2 years. Obama has been in for a little more than 100 days. Why are we letting them talk about conservatism as if it is a dinosaur? It seems to me that conserative ideas win. In fact they are so popular that Obama lied about his liberal views while campaigning. Maybe we need to stop accepting the premise and press forward with the truth. Nationalized health care will cost lives. It will produce less qualified medical professionals, fewer medical professionals, less medical research, a decline in drug company profits which inevitably lead to fewer medical advances. Let them run with this and we are all screwed. It is time to CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES SCREAMING! WE ARE ALL BEING DUPED!
the more they straddle you with, the more you and yours will have to work for them. Can work camps be far behind?
Only for those that need to be re-educated.
I matters not what the health care industry is willing to do. They are only there because they are intimidated by this administration. Remember the banks? The two auto companies? AIG? The health care industry is trying to hold on to any little bit of free market operation that they can. They see what is coming when BH0 announces what is coming next, and health care is in the crosshairs.
Let's not forget Obama's suit makers.
Great they want to tax soda , energy drinks, sports drinks and ready to drink teas even some fruit juices to the tune of .3 cents for 12 oz, to help fund health care.
How about we tax Kool-Aid since this is their drink of choice!
Good one!
Libs are so anti-big business, isn't that what this is? It's just a government monopoly of the healthcare system with Obama as the leader. There are going to many so many scandals coming out of this. The health companies are going to be bribing left and right for profits. He nationalized banks and the auto industry and now healthcare.
Yes, healthcare needs to be more affordable but Chicago-style thugging to get the companies in your lap and letting them bribe you isn't how to do it. Neither is universal healthcare (as Canada and UK can tell you). But giving incentives (read: tax cuts) to newly formed health insurance companies will allow other companies to start up and drive costs down.
Thank you, sir.
Please folks, let's be civil to one another. RB60, being laid off does not, in and of itself, make you an "unproductive product of society". It makes you laid off. Period. Here's hoping you are able to get back to work soon.
The healthcare industry is offering to slow down the cost increase by 1.5% per year. Cost are going up each year by far more than the inflation rate. What a scam, they are just as bad as the oil industry. Anyone notice that when the price per barrel was at $50 dollar we were paying 1.50 per gallon, now the price per barrel is at $58 and we are paying 2.25 per gallon?
If the government wants to get involved, they should do so by protecting our interest by going after price gouging not by trying to run the business. Wishful thinking, I know….
The interesting thing about this article is PRICES HAVE BEEN SET BY MEDICARE and the insurance pays the same as Medicare! In order for a Dr. to get $45 per office visit, they have to charge $125! That is because of Medicare! Love that the goverment and the so called president want to blame the industry when it is Medicare, a goverment sets the prices that health care industry can receive! ISN'T THAT A LITTLE "THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK!"

Do the math. Do you think Big Hospital and Insurance group CEOs are going to take a cut? Do you think the Neurosurgeons and Transplant MDs and Oncologists will line up to reduce their pay? Of course not! The cost 'containment' will come out of the hides of providers without a big lobby and when they begin to scream bloody murder or quit, in will step union labor organizers and the SEIU. Very neatly planned and orchestrated. Here swallow this pill, US CITIZEN and when you are done, bend over. I have a big tax enema and an IV solution of Union activists waiting for you…….
Another "reform" eh? Sounds like someone doesn't have the gonads to Nationalize healthcare! I knew it! I knew we couldn't afford it! They know it too. The amount of money that would have to be printed / borrowed / stolen in taxes, is insurmountable and they know it. We will continue down the same road as before but they will most likely rename a few things and call it reform. Kind of like the economy … they are not getting rid of what caused these problems in the first place. They are bailing out a failed system of Socialism / Capitalism in order to keep it working. This is the vote getting machine. I believe that with all that money that was printed making it's way into the economy will cause inflation like we haven't seen since the late 70s. If they don't control it or try to fight it off, we will have no choice but to go through an inflationary recession just in time for the next election. Convenient? Maybe.
I wish we could force congress & the president to "test" out these plans on themselves and their families for 5 years… then I think they would put real thought into what ever it is that they propose. I say leave it alone! Govt. involvement in anything only screws it up worse.
What government plan that has been put into effect has ever been a success? NONE THAT I KNOW OF!
Socail Security was & is a fiscally sound prgram that for years took in billions more than it paid out. The reason it is in trouble today is the government, both Republicans & Democrats, couldn't keep their grubby little paws off of the surplus. They started taking the money & leaving IOU's. This is typical of any government that is handpicked & bought & left in power for lifetimes (Senators & Congressmen). They forced us into funding social security (while at the same time excluding themselves from having to particiapte) and then helped themselves to the surpluses. I guarantee you that the Federal employees retitrement fund has never been "borrowed" from. There is much more wrong with our political system today than just Rep's & Dem's. Unfortunately, short of an all out revolution it cannot be changed. Do you think that you'll ever get a Senator & Congressman to ever vote for term limits? They have set this system up to be self-serving & self perpetuating for themselves.
I wrote my local 'conservative' republican congressman involved in this. I suggested that they start with a healthy population to treat medically. The federal employees in DC, then when certain benchmarks are met move the coverage area outward. Based on customer satisfaction/cost ratios.
I was politely brushed off. But I cannot forget that Ted Kennedy made HMO's possible, but never had to deal with that during his illness. Why should they be above our standards of care?
Well lets see if someone had a gun to your head you would be on board too. All I can say is 18 months until midterm:)
All I can say is 18 months until bigger Democratic majorities. Obama's approval rating is sky high and the party of no, your party, is in the toilet. Good luck there moron.
18 months from now, this becomes Obama's depression and with all this spending and the hyper inflation that will be happening, it is not going to be good for the Dems.
There’s Chuck again with his inverted vision. Honestly Chuck, do you really believe what you post? Care to engage? I would, just lost a proposal so I’m feeling a little edgy.
Especially with the new census, Chucky. Only thing I've seen is your crooks are better at it than ours. But I'm not giving up hope that ours will become educated by watching this Obamajoke. GES chucky
So far, I get like a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs every time this administration gets a bright idea. This health care issue has the potential to completely destroy the industry. It may turn out that Mexico will have better and cheaper health care. God forbid!
We best be saying a lot of prayers that the Medical Industry wakes up and does do their own policing as the socalled president's plan is a disaster for our country! WHY DO PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD COME HERE FOR THEIR SURGERIES AND EVEN REGULAR HEALTH CARE! They can't get it in their own countries!
Something fishy is going on here. I don't see why the industry would be on board for this knowing their profits will go down. Maybe the healthcare industry needs to have a meeting with the automakers and bankers and see how much they enjoy working for the government.
They probably think that by getting out in front of this, they will have the opportunity to help shape the policy which will directly impact their business. Little do they know, they will only get what the 'Great Leader" personally decides they deserve. They say they will save $2T over the next 10 years and what does the administration say? " We re not sure how this will help our efforts as these savings will be primarily realized by private individuals and not the Govt." People, don't be duped! With this bunch it's socialized medicine or nothing.
That thought should get legs among the insurance, banking, auto manufacturing AND healthcare sectors. Maybe they can lead their own little rev ol ution! Great post!
2 reasons come to mind quickly
1 they will give up now to be able to keep more later, or not get hurt worse later socialized health care means bye bye private insurance their jobs
2 they have a long term plan to make more money be it ethical or not
A national HMO, that is exactly somebody's idea of progress, some sick, deranged, and confused idea. The same government that has given us great confidence in such programs as Social Security, Medicare/ Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credit, bail-outs, stimulus, etc. is going to fix the health care industry like the banking and car industry. They will be able to reduce costs without addressing the fraud issue. Can you imagine the sell job we will have to endure after the government implements this plan? I'm certain that this will be the ONE thing the government can do efficiently.
But the private industry is not very efficient at all on health care. Americans spend more per capita on health care than any other developed nation but are one of the unhealthiest. Americans are shorter, have shorter life spans and have more chronic illnesses than other countries with universal health care. (the Dutch, French, Germans, Canadians and the Scandinavians are all taller and live longer healthier lives) It is estimated that 40% of health care dollars go to administration in the US where in other developed countries it is around 10 to 20%.
Irongirl I'm thinking that most chronically ill people in other countries with universal health care are DEAD.
You don't know about this if you believe that. There is a quality of care here found no where around the world.
We do more to damage our health and still get put back together for a longer life expectancy than we've had here in the past.
Google waiting lists, canadian healthcare.
It's the California plan, Stan. The only state in the union which has a heavily unionized health care labor force is behind this…..the California Nurses Association. They had ANA 'reach a consensus' on this years ago without even a small bit of discussion. It was like 'anyone opposed to the idea of universal health care is depraved and inhuman. Almost the same argument the gay rights activitst take. I oppose it because it won't work, it will deliver poor and inefficient care to whoever is buddy buddy to the gatekeepters, and the rest can take a number. It is not the American way and will in the long run end up costing all of us 10Xs more than what we all pay now. Add your costs up, America…..look at what you spent out of pocket in 2008 and then let's see what the end cost will be per family once Obama's team gets done with their dream scheming. Mark my words….10Xs more.
And you won't be able to practice your craft as you will. The trial lawyers will be able to, though.

Obama Care is coming and we have to face what it will really be:
Their first principal is outcomes must be equal. Redistribution is the basis of their morality.
Blacks do not live as long as whites because of their life style. The initial claim will be Obama Care will improve their life span. It will not. Medical access is not the problem. Life style is.
But out comes must be equal
The only answer is to shorten white life span.
This will be accomplished by setting priorities for care with the use of “non racial” criteria except for the “Victim” classes who will get higher priority as in all quota programs.
We are entering the age of state euthanasia and Obama Care will provide it with a happy face.
I can see it! It's what they did in our school systems… lower the standard for everyone.
The phrase President Obama uses is "social justice" or "economic equality". The only problem is that he hasn't clearly defined the injustice or the inequality. So, the spin would be to not look at this as euthanasia, rather to view it as a late abortion. Had the mother had known what kind of racist, greedy, enviroterrorist she'd given birth to, she'd aborted the offspring of the "white" devil. See, justice has been served.
You are absolutely right!
Paranoia and racism all in the same place! How convenient! You sound like a Micheal Savage fan. Perhaps you should go take your psychotic rantings there.
And you would be the one to point this out? You sound like a Olberman fan, but if you stick to facts and ideas people will still pay attention to it long enough to figure out if you might have a point.
You could be very right.
Shorten white life span eh … what do you think Gun Control is for?
"Republicans want to work with Democrats to ensure every American has access to affordable, high quality health coverage," Boehner said in a written statement, voicing support for the "voluntary reforms."
Boehner needs to be removed from office….
Hey dumba– We want no part of paying for other people's health plan! What the hell is wrong with you?
This is one of the main problems, as I see it from the cheap seats, the Repubs want to play nice with the Dems while us hard-working Americans get sold down the river. The Dems, well they don't care for anyone who doesn't carry their water or swallow their BS!
That's why come the midterm elections, vote them ALL out and start over with people who will actually work for us. No more partie vote, just vote for those who represent you and I, CONSERVATIVES.
With the hugh majority the Dems have, it is a little difficult to find anything the Republicans can do! They can't even filibuster! WHERE ARE YOUR BRAINS! Rep. Boehner has been a great Republican leader in the House and does stand up for the people!
Republican purity uber alles! I completely agree. The way back to a majority is to ever dwindle the current minority.
Chuck, I realize you will never study facts and adjust to meet them. But, for the sake of other people reading this, I'll explain it slowly. Customers know what they want, and when customers leave a business they are forced to adjust. Some can't like Kmart, GM, and Washington Mutual. But most adjust and come out stronger and more focused, look at the next generation Ford Taurus.
When customers are taken out of the loop, business gets lazy, look at the post office. Look at any government office and how people are treated. Look at the federal immigration building in Los Angeles with people lined up around the block. Do you want to wait like that for rationed health care? They do in the UK.
In the past healthcare was affordable. Babies and a 3 day stay in the early sixties were just under $100 in pre-inflation dollars. That worked, and was affordable. If Obama really wanted to fix the system the easiest way is to let patients become more involved in how their money is spent. Back out of the situation with general oversite at the most.
It's clear he has no idea about medicine, this isn't about healthcare, it's about state control over everything.
We should call for the removal of ANY Repubican (spelled that way on purpose) who says s/he wants to work with Dems. Republicans must offer the alternative and demand the Dems work with them!
Has access doesn't mean provision. That just means getting in the door somehow, either through charities or IOUs or medical savings accounts or whatever. Getting in the door doesn't mean that whoever is on the providing end can't say no, sorry—no can do!
To me, everyone already has ACCESS to health care–at least acute care. But that isn't what is most expensive. It is long term care for the chronically ill, mental health services and other care provided by poorly covered care that some Americans do not have access. It would be dandy if all people were working and all employers wanted a healthy stable workforce and happy retirees, but that just isn't the case anymore.
Our people are too diverse to cover all. We have too many extremes and a one size fits all health plan might help some, but would probably be poor at best in quality. And what good would it do? Help people live to be 110 and in constant pain from 'old age?' Become bionic to work into our 90s? To have a zero infant mortality rate (can you imagine the population explosion?). What is the end goal of having more access to some care that is of dubious quality and gives a terrible outcome?
We have folks that have not taken a bath in years, do not ever go to a doctor until they are in rot, and refuse every known health care suggestion made to them on one extreme and we have people who do not just present for care at the sign of disease or injury, but want the VERY BEST care even when no care is even needed and all variables in between these two extremes. We cannot force people into care and we cannot please everyone so why is the government trying so hard?
And just what will be the next target of BIG BROTHER—free food and energy rations to all? (of course all will get EXACTLY only the amount BIG BROTHER ALLOCATES)!
Yes! You speak with the voice of experience. Something sadly lacking on those 'experts' that have a degree from some ivy league college but no real world experience, and more importantly real world success.
It looks like DEAR LEADER has now scared the health care industry into giving him what ever his communist azz wants. I just love the way it becomes the responsibility of the hard working American to pay for everything the stupid slugs in this country want. It is time to tell Americas first dictator NO NO NO if you want more of my money bring your simple minded azz to me personally & get it. Enough of your personal rape of the American worker.
I can't get past this massive lie that we are all being told, and even though we have been informed of this lie several times in the past couple of years, people have stopped talking about it and ALL appear to have accepted it as truth. Why?
Time and time again we have been told by almost all sources of the media that tries to indoctrinate us daily that there are 47 million Americans without health insurance. This is one HUGE and disgraceful lie. I can't think of a bigger lie that has been told and accepted by the American public, other than the lie that Bush lied to the American people about the intelligence indicating that Saddam Hussein had chemical weapons, etc.
The census bureau report that the left has been peddling as their source and proof of this lie was deliberately distorted and lied about. The census bureau reported that approximately 47 million PEOPLE were without health insurance. The left turned this into the lie that 47 million AMERICANS were without health insurance. 10 million of these people are illegal aliens and NOT Americans. Why would we feel compelled to insure people who sneak into the country illegally? I wonder why we have a problem with illegal immigration when we leave are borders virtually unprotected and advertise free health insurance and college for all who sneak into the country and violate our law!
If that was all that was wrong with these figures it would be bad enough but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Another approximately 8.5 million uninsured make over $50,000 a year. Another 8.5 million make over $75,000 a year. These 17 million people can easily afford to purchase excellent health insurance but choose not to. I can't say that I blame them. They could probably purchase great insurance for around $10,000 a year but probably feel that they would be better off setting aside the money it would cost them for health insurance to pay for health care needs as they arise. That way any unused money comes back to them instead of being gone forever even though they may never even have had any health problems. These people we are told are "rich" and are making health care expensive for the working class and poor! Subtract these people and this brings the real total of uninsured down to 20 million people. Let's just say that this is all that's wrong with the 47 million figure being used as the reason to destroy our health care system well beyond it's current problems and make us children of the government. (It has been said that the census report underestimated the number of people who have health insurance, and also that about 45% of the uninsured are only uninsured on average for about four months while making job transitions.) Letting the 20 million figure stand, that means we are about to completely ruin what's left of our health care system, and ignore most of the problems the health care system faces, just so corrupt politicians can claim free health insurance for all and lock in the votes. When the devastating consequences come to bear they will have moved on so no worries for them.
There's a second part of this issue that also seems to be go unnoticed. Even if this fairy tale of free health care for all wasn't based on a lie, and was economically feasible, how many people will want the horrible health care system that will be the result of this "great" plan? People act like this hasn't been done before. The results of such plans are evident all around the world. Socialized health care is a joke! (Yes, even compared with the mess that we have now.) The real number of people without health insurance is less than 7% of the population, and even this may be an exaggeration. I sympathize with those people but does it really make sense to ruin the whole system to help that small a number of people? I'm sure we can come up with a solution better than this for those people! Besides, if this is our criteria for letting the government take over or "overhauling" something that doesn't work, what is next? Since our government's politicians are so corrupt, why not overhaul that? How many of our government representatives desperately need to be replaced, 80%, 90%? If we overhauled this group we might be able to address a LOT of the problems facing the nation.
like every other industry this administration is trying to strong arm into submission, the Obamanator will make them an offer they cannot refuse. its time to be afraid, very afraid
To add another goverment PONZI scheme like nationalized healthcare, is on par with the failed programs of Medicaid , Medicare and Social Security. This certain debacle will add another nail to the coffin of BH0's presidency. It's just a feeling I have, but I think we can do better than this guy.
It's amazing that when you put a gun to someones head, just how accommodating they can be. Obama is using ACORN tactics against the health care industry. "Either you come on board, or I'll find someone else that can, then put you out of business". It's Chicago politics on a national level, and something Obama can do in his sleep.
Obama using ACORN tactics? My GOD, Obama worked for ACORN in the 1990's, and early 2000's teaching, and training ACORN people how to manipulate the system, and as a new lawyer represented ACORN several times. ACORN had a big thank you for Obama's leadership posted on their website!
They're just going along with the program to save their own butts in the future…..they, like everybody else realizes that there is h ell to pay for bucking the new system……what a shame…..
No…instead let's burden the taxpayer even further by requiring everyone to pay for the needs of the many. I do not want to pay the costs for all the people who do not take care of their own health, yet complain about the state of health care. Maybe if people actually cared enough about their health when they are healthy as opposed to when their lifestyles catch up to them health care costs would not be so astronomical. I know this would not eliminate all the problems, but would go a long way toward cutting costs. You know…strong immune systems from eating fruits and vegetables, exercising, getting enough rest. Personal responsibility. Staying away from cigarettes, mass consumption of alcohol, drugs, leading sedentary lifestyles. These things might reduce the massive cost of health care. Oh, how about tort reform? Limiting the amount lawyers can bilk doctors for in frivolous lawsuits. If malpractice insurance cost less maybe health care costs would come down. No, instead Creaky, let's shift the burden to the taxpayer and let the government run and destroy another industry. They have been doing a bang up job since the mid-80's. Let's give them more influence and control over our lives as we fast track to totalitarianism.
When gov't proposes a solution, it is usually worse than the problem.
The industry is taking note of the actions of this administration with regards to banks and the auto industry and doesn't want to get burned. They are starting to make decisions based on fear rather than ones based on good, common sense and business acumen. That is NOT a good way to revamp an industry.
My biggest frustration with this whole thing is that I'm having to use the health care system more and more with all the blood that's shooting out of my eyes.
the only reason these guys are talking like this is so they dont wake up with horse heads in their beds. Please someone name one time (just 1) where getting the government involved actually lowered the cost of anything. I just do see how adding the cost of a bloated government agency will lower the cost of anything.
This is of course leaving out the whole moral ethical and constitutional aspects of the conversation.
This is the best course of action for health care groups at this point.(especially non-union) The Democrats have already said they would use the plan of only (51) votes needed to push nationalized healthcare through which also prevents the Republicans from filibuster. With the health care groups coming to the table to help remedy the problems it will make this a bit more difficult for the Dems to push this agenda if more citizens become aware of what is exactly at stake here.
With the government's idea of universal health care the administration has proposed a feasibility commission to ascertain the ability to manage this new bureaucracy. The new commission will develop a database known as the American Medical Operational Knowledge. The acronym for this group will be known as A.M.O.K. Much time and finances will be brought into this study to find out if the agencies involved will be able to run A.M.O.K. It is important to know the strategy will be used and to assure the government's ability to run A.M.O.K. But past history tends to instill confidence that the government is quite able to run A.M.O.K.
Sadly we can't afford to run A.M.O.K. it costs too much…
That was awesome. Thank you.
I forgot to add that this think tank would consist of highly qualified individuals from many fields of academia with the exception of medicine.
Isn't it great what acronyms can do? The effort to stave off taxation of soda pop to help combat obesity should prompt the emergence of a new (somewhat passive) activist group. Fatsos United. Now let's shorten that to a gov't acronym.
Now that's funny. So was Jersey Girl's response. Thanks, I needed a good laugh today
Seems we just had this news article with some different words. Again I will say, be careful. The medical industry is not promising to lower its prices. It is saying it is raising them less than they wanted to. And Obama will add to those rising (yes rising) costs by new buildings he wants to build and masses of bureaucrats he wants in order to tell you why you cannot have medical attention this week. And when that is done he will spend more money for statues of himself in his new Health Moderator Bureaucrat buildings and will need to buy some more teleprompters to tell you how great this all is. So when it is all done, he is saying that medical costs with his additions and raises for the medical people will now only double your overall costs for medical instead of tripling as he and the medical industry had planned. And I do expect that as always, he will see that we will not catch what he is really doing.
Statues!? OH NO!
Industry is only on board to keep from being lynched by the WH and to try to get a little say in this downward spiral of nationalized health care.
What?
INDUSTRY IS ONLY ON BOARD TO KEEP FROM BEING PUBLICLY LYNCHED BY THE WHITE HOUSE AND TO GET A LITTLE SAY IN THIS SPIRAL OF NATIONAL HEALTH CARE.
If the industry blows off this ridiculous plan from the White House they will be publicly ridiculed just like those who opposed the White House's plan for the Chrysler bankruptcy. They will be intimidated into submission or risk protesters magically showing up on their door steps, thank you ACORN and Unions. This WH is playing hardball to force any opposing ideas off the table so they can invoke a highly dependent nanny state upon society.
Health care on the horizon!? That's ludicrous! Let people who can't afford healthcare beg on the streets! This is getting absolutely ridiculous!!!
I cannot afford health care because I am currently laid off. Don't think for one damn minute you will find me begging for anything!
You only can't afford health care because you're an unproductive member of society!
Your removed post stated that I was an "unproductive product of society" leading me to becoming currently unemployed. I have worked since the age of 12, delivering papers, worked after school since I was 14, took a full time job at age 17 upon graduation from both a trade school and high school. I have never asked anyone, including my parents for anything, ANYTHING!! My nice, clean (not extravagant) home, my 3 automobiles, etc. have been purchased with over 30 years of hard work.. I've paid all my taxes, my bills are all current, and I am looking for re-employment every day.
I will let my peers, the people on this site, pass judgment on me, weather I am, as you said, an "unproductive product of society"…..Certainly not you.
Heaven forbid, Somebody pay for services rendered?
There are a lot of people in RB60's position. My family was in the same position a few years ago. I had a 1 year old and 2 stepkids who went without insurance for almost 2 years. Cobra at $800 plus a month was a joke! We could afford to go to the doctor for general things but if we would have had anything major happen like my husband's sister's family (14 yr old nephew lost his hand in an auto accident thanks to 2 idiots racing each other down the freeway) We would have been in huge trouble!!! You never know what health issues may come your way.
Now don't get me wrong. I AM NOT for government controlling health care. But because of greed, insurance costs and health care have gone through the roof. Greed and dishonesty is what has gotten this country in the huge mess that it's in. Like my father said once "Someday the balloon is gonna pop in everyones face."
Health care and insurance just needs to be made affordable!!!! How to do so, well, I wished like hell I had the right answer. The only one I can come up with would be for all people in the industry to grow a conscious and actually try to make it affordable. What's the chance?
I DO know without a doubt that Socializing health care is NOT the ANSWER!!!!!!
I feel exactly the way you do delu2qtkds. The insurance companies, the lawyers (on frivolous lawsuits), and not to mention here in California the hospitals are going bankrupt because they are required by law to admit anyone whether they have insurance or not. Now we have a large community of illegals that just walk in and take, while we have United States Citzens who can't even afford to get the sniffles. This government is so backward it's unbelievable. I don't want healthcare like in Canada, Britain or France, but I do believe that if you are a vital citizen you should be able to afford healthcare for your family.
Creaky, You may find yourself in this very same scenario some day, and IF you do I hope God calls this comment back into your mind. As someone who has lived through cancer for six years now and has to get screening twice a year to keep a handle on it, I would not wish begging in the streets for health care on anyone!! Making life saving medical treatment more difficult for someone who needs it is cruel in any society. People who have worked hard all their lives and contributed to this great nation, and pay for their health care insurance, then be told it will be downgraded so those who don't want to work and get their own health care can have it is ludicrous. My wife is laid off and had to take the Cobra insurance for both of us to be covered, she is paying that and going to school too. I had to have a PET scan for my cancer treatment, if a Health Czar in D.C. had to decide if I was worthy of this or not, my life could be on the line with his/her decision, this wrong on so many levels.
I love that all of the events have 'and so on' listed when it comes to locations for you. That's some grade A organizing for you. What a joke. Your tea parties were a failure. This site is a failure. Your movement is a failure. Your Republican party is failure. Your leaders are failures. Your policies failed. And you are the 'party of no'. Why don't you just face it. Conservatism has failed.
Paranoia is when it is not true. The big O is going to do it. We lost the country to bureaucrats because we were to busy earning a living and did not appreciate the arrogance and drive for power over us that the left has.
Chuck,
How about yes to capping how much trial lawyers make on medical claims?
How about yes to recovering legal claims made based on junk science, like John Edward's and channelling of autistic children?
How about yes to less paperwork with more room for "cash only" customers?
How about yes to the insurance industry and the trial lawyers union open their books under penalty of purjury?
How about yes to we reduce fraud and paperwrangling in the Medicare/Medicaid programs before we open up a new program to abuse?
How about yes to insurance and government doing their jobs before taking on extra responsibility?
You are right. The "you guys" failed in the "small government" department. They got caught up in the yes, yes yes that grew the government. Those "morons" should have said NO a long time ago.
Here are two examples. NO government mandate requiring banks make unrealistic loans to folks who could never meet their financial obligations: we probably wouldn't even be in this mess. No TARP: the greedy/poorly managed banks and companies would be bankrupt and gone and the honorable banks and companies would be thriving. That's competition and capitalism.
Sometimes NO is the CORRECT answer, so don't dis it. I'd prefer the government to do NOthing rather than throw non-existent money at problems that will work themselves out if we just let them alone.
Chucky, just roll over and let The Government rub you on the belly, and when they put the collar and leash on you, be a good little boy and walk, run and play where they tell you to. And when they put your food out, eat it whether you like it or not, or you'll eat it when you get hungry enough. They'll play ball with you and take you on long walks and give you a nice little house to keep you out of the weather, stay in your yard and play nice. Then when you get unproductive or decrepit they'll take you to Dr. Feelgood and he will give you a shot that will make you sleep for a long time
Isn't that nice of them??
Here is the plan, Stan. Let the providers and the consumers come to terms and keep government OUT! Those who can pay will get the service. Those who cannot won't or will need family or charity connections. This is the way that all businesses run best.
And BTW. Some of us gave very good, comprehensive plans to 'higher ups' to present to Hillary in the 90's and these suggestions were completely ignored. That was not the progressive thing to do….let America fix itself. No, better to let our smart Uncle Sam (who's been to Harvard, by gum) fix it! He can't even read a five minute speech and we are supposed to believe he knows all there is to know about health care in 115 days??? I think not! I think he knows a lot about communism from his mama, that's what he knows and that is what is getting 'counter-proposed' to those industry leaders. They have to deal…… he has their lives and livelihoods in his hands, quite literally. Expect any dissenters to run into some huge regulation and inspection problems.
And by the way, if someone wants to oppose something, they have every right to do so here as long as they speak plainly and mean what they say. I think your type are the ones so busy talking out of both sides or your mouth and with those great big, forked tongue that no one hears more than spin and rhetoric and a lot of wishful thinking…….
Be careful Chuck, you may well get the health care you want. Then when they reject you for a transplant because it is more economical to give the organ to someone that will live longer or who can pay cash, it will be too late to change your mind. What about new innovations in medicines? Do you really think drug companies find new drugs because the are altrustic?
Unfortunately, the companies that provide health care insurance are trying to provide coverage for and industry that has an even bigger license to steal. The medical industry. Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Health Care, John Hancock, etc are all in the business to make a profit. Unfortunately there is no regulation on the health care industry & they have some extremely powerful lobbies. I had to have three MRI's within 6 months in 1999. Every time I had one the cost had increased by $250.00 ($500.00, %750.00 & finally $1,000.00). My personal doctor purchased a "lung capcity" machine which in 2001 was supposedly to become a routine part of my physical. In 2002 he did not even bring out the machine. He simply used it on every patient who had a physical until he billed enough insurance companies to get it paid for and now only uses it on hispatients that smoke. That is a direct quote form his PA. (This really sucks–see next reply).
chuckflynn,go crawl back under your rock and drink your kool-aide you demon troll!
You wish it was a faillure. It did a lot, but for me it made me realize I am not alone. I have other neighbors in my area that feel just as I do. I left feeling like I should not be disappointed when my elected republican idiot doesn't stand up for me, but to remember until next primary election!
Conservatism has not failed, it's simply not being tried. We did fire a lot of our republican servants, but not for any other reason than they let us down. Ask Spector how much support he was getting…? I guess it's his version of conservatism that's failed. Not the conservatism of the heartland.
Ah yes, the old "conservatism can't fail, it can only be failed". Conservatism has never worked in America. Conservatives are always corrupt. Conservatives always break laws, lie, cheat and steal. Conservatives are what is wrong with America.
you once again refuse to face facts and would rather choose to conveniently re-write history. Reagan turned double digit inflation and unemployement around and a period of economic growth began that has lifted our country up to the only super power in the world. I don't know what you've been drinking, but my guess is it's some flavor of coolaide.

On who breaks laws, why don't you address two cases, Congressman Jefferson from La, with his cold cash/corruption case and the case against Tom Delay that has cleared him at every turn. Who was more or a lying cheating stealing corrupt 'wrong with america' kind of guy?
When the Dems or Repubs tell you they are interested in what you have to say and think your input is valuable, they are just trying to shut you up. they could give a rat's behind LESS what you and I, the serfs of this kingdom have to say. You and I couldn't be dumber , in their minds!
It's time for the torches and pitchforks!
I said the revolution started on April 15 and they do only care about us when we are not paying precious taxes, the oil that greases our entire way of life anymore.
