Most estimate 2 – 2.5 million jobs lost since Obama has been president. Obama claims to have saved 150,000 jobs. That's only 6-7.5% of the jobs lost. True cost of the stimulus bill? Over 3 trillion. Taking 3 trillion/150000 you get $20 million.
Yup, that's right. We spent $20 million for each job saved (Not counting the fact the true cost is OVER $3 trillion and not counting the fact that Obama wants MORE money). Who says spending helps countries get out of recessions? Who says that tax cuts don't work?
The population of the U.S.A. is, according to google, 304,059,724. Multiply that by 70% (an estimated 30% of Americans don't pay taxes) you get 212,841,807. Take 3 trillion divided by 212,841,807 you get $14,094.98. That's money that Americans can spend in the markets. And it sounds way better than saving a miniscule amount of jobs with amounts of money that these jobs aren't worth. Go figure, if a job's productivity is only $50,000 why spend $20 million to save it? Only in Obamaland.
Add to this Dustyluv's advice: Get rid of the illegals and scale back welfare. Also, reduce government and taxes, we would be in a lot better shape….If only…
Unfortunately, we are not alone. I was not complaining, but just letting those who are still employed know how lucky they are. It's really tough when you want to work and find it is so difficult to find anything. Hang in there louapnormal, as rough as it may be, we have the desire to make our own way, sooner or later we will find something.

What the power financial elite does is to run up the stock market using various means…. then do the opposite. They already bought low, and can sell short on the way down when they crash it. Remember, money never dsiappears, only paper wealth in assessed home values, real estate values and stock values decrease. Money doesn't disappear. The power elite of the world is milking the wealth out of everybody else and amassing all the real money. If you paid $1.2 million, for example to get into some funds, and you shrank to $800K, somebody else got your money. However, if you paid $800 in and it rose to a paper value of $1.2, There was no money created.
So what do they want us all to do now? The power elite wants us all to put real money back in to the market, then they will crash it and achieve a double objective: taking money away from ordinary people with some money, and gaining more money for themselves.
Round two will be to exert their power and control, their will over the people of the earth, to make us dependent slaves. It is carefully orchestrated over time, never doing too many alarming things at once so as not to alarm the public too much, and cause the public to revolt. Only of things start getting out of hand will they cause a crisis or a war to get us all in line or accelerate their plans.
Sorry for the truth, but that's how I see it.
Early last week I put an application, with cover letter, in at a small business in the next (small) town, that advertised they were looking for a maintenance worker (I am a 30+ years experienced Maintenance Machinist). Pay was advertised at $11-$12 per hour. I called earlier this afternoon, the secretary told me they received over 1200 applications already, and the mail hadn't arrived yet today. She also noted that two of the applicants were Penn State Mechanical Engineering graduates. Earlier this spring, a local Amusement Park advertised they had over 250 part time openings, they received over 1400 applications according to the local newspaper. Things are pretty tough around these parts. I haven't given up on looking for work, I check everyday on the internet and read the wanted ads in the paper, but it is tough with many of the companies shutting their doors or moving (5 major employers in the last year). Hopefully something will soon come up. I sure won't quit looking.
I live in Ohio and have been out of work for six months. I have a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, I have resume's out in a 75 mile radius and no bites yet. I to have been looking on the internet for work. Have given up pounding the pavement. To many places you don't even get to the door because there is a sign saying they are not accepting applications. Or you walk into the lobby and there is just a phone with a phone list. Or my favorite one is, is where the lights on the lobby are not in even on. I wonder when the stimulus monry will make it to the manufacturing sector in Ohio.
The private sector is shedding jobs while government hiring continues. This is another example of this admimistrations obsession with ensuring a one party political system (we all know what that is called).
If this behavior continues, we will have this crew of left wing, anti-americans in power for decades to come – paid for by their outrageous theft of anything of value these vultures can snap up.

And Climbing! Don't let the media fool you by stating that things are starting to look up! Really it's time to stop watching television stations that don't report the news. This is unexceptable! I stopped watching Hollywood movies…we are empowering these people to use their millions, thanks to us, against us. I don't watch any television stations who support these actors and who do not report the real news! They lie and lie….why encourage this. We are losing jobs just as fast as we are losing our freedom. Surprise government jobs we up by over 70,000 last month. One reason was because of the Cencus workers that were hired to trespass with their new GPS devices (we bought) invading our privacy or Acorn ensuring the Libs votes…there's always the UNIONS!
Please pray for our nation. I pray for all that are trying to find jobs to support their families. Pray that we turn back before it's too late.
We slip further each day toward judgment – insurmountable debt, worse economic times? Nationalized health care? Loss of freedoms?
This bothers me. First of all, I do not see Obama or the Democratic Congress accepting responsibility for this yet, other than to continue to blame it on Bush. If their solutions worked, then the economy would be better. One indicator was that after some Obama announcements the stock market fell – meaning that investors did not necessarily buy his direction. Since no one in our current government takes responsibility, not Pelosi, not Barney Frank, not Geithner and not Obama, then there will be no solution. And if the Democrats are right that only Bush was responsible, and not the other 535 who were in Washington, then we are now dead – since that means he was the only person working and taking responsibility in Washington, is now gone, and now we have no one willing to work nor take responsibility.
I only expect things to get worse before they begin to get better. We all know that government throwing money at problems never works. So all this talk about stimulus money and handing out more and more money to businesses is only prolonging what we sadly have to go through in order to start our economy in the other direction. I really think the unemployment numbers are higher and will continue to go higher for now.

I'm not sure the numbers are true, or cherry-picked to make Obama look better, but even if they are realistic, Over a half million lost jobs is very bad.
In the not to distant future, there will hundreds of thousands of jobs, due to Obama's meddlling into companes like General Motors, by telling them every thing they must do, that GM has stated they are going offshore to China, Mexaco, and Korea to build their cars. This is a direct response to Obama trying to dictate what GM must do to survive, and with these rules, Obama is forcing GM to move to other countries. Gm is not the only company. there will be hundreds, perhaps thousands of other companies that will tell Obama just where to go, and leave!
This is very serious for our country's ability to ever get out of this Resession-Depression! We have only Obama, and his Democrats to blame! Of course, the Dems will blame the conservatives for their stupidity!
21,000 jobs are going to be outsourced after GM restructures. Just think in 2011 GM will be importing cars from China into the U.S.

Everytime they spew a jobless rate I cringe. People tend to forget that a near 10% jobless rate is excessively high for our time. We have a majority on welfare who do not work, we have millions upon millions in nursing homes who do not work, we have a couple million in prisons (even after letting some out due to the economy) who do not work, we have one income families that one spouse has never worked, we have a very large percentage of retirees from all job sectors that no longer work and we have people who cannot find a job right out of college who are not working . This percent if of working people no longer working, we have only about of 40% if that much, of America working right now. The coffers will thin and the high taxes on businesses and the wealthy will soon not be enough, more job loses, then the only employer will be the government. Things better turn soon or depression, inflation and seriously hard times will be upon us all.
Lets look at reallity BHO said that he would use the TARP money to SAVE or create 3.xx milion jobs..
So at the end of his term if 3.xx million of us are still working he has spoken the truth (he saved that many jobs) also he will have the rest of us out of work counting on the Government to eat and pay our bills. Sounds like a win win situation for him and his cronies.

The increase in jobs in not from an increase in enterprise. Money taked from some given to others to do non valued added jobs. The real core economy is not adding jobs.

It is not the job of government to ensure everyone has a job. However, it is the job of government to get out of the way, keep taxes low so businesses can grow and hire people. Something so basic as this concept seems to elude the present administration. Why is it that government has to complicate things? I don't get it. I scratch my head over this every day. The cure for unemployment is simple: government get out of the way.
Unemployed 1 year, 1 month, 9 days. Sigh.
What would Reagan do? He cut taxes and got government out of our way. It worked last time and it would work again if it were tried. Anyone who thinks that creating more debt will magically make the economy recover should hit themselves in the head with a hammer.

I could not find your reply to my post. So I thought I would reply to you here. Obama would fit right in over there as he was born and raised a muslim and I believe still is. That is why I believe he refused to participate in National Prayer Day. Past Presidents have taken part and are proud to-the ones that are Christian. All have been so far except for Obama.

At least my husbands employer is telling their employees to add back that so called tax break to their W4 form so they will not have to pay extra later. You have to watch out for yourselves. Jobs or no jobs is right. Who cares about jobs or job loss. We need to focus on the health of the economy. Lower taxes to support business creation and growth will created the jobs we need. Stopping illegal aliens and unfair trade practices with foreign nations will creates wealth and job growth. We need to focus on our governemtn practices and policies and not on job loss or growth for the future of this nation.
Jobs or no jobs, the taxpayer is about to get clobbered again. The government is gearing up for the PPIP (Public Private Investment Partnership) auction that is going to enable the banks to sell off their toxic assets to each other at an out of (bank) pocket cost of about 5-7% of their original value. This is their big chance to get out from under these toxic assets and still come out smelling like a rose.
So who's on the hook for the difference? You guessed it – it's us, the taxpayers!! We (via the Feds) get to pick up 93-95% of the cost of the banks' bad judgment (and outright corruption!) through matching funds and 'non-recoverable' loans.
This is going to cost the taxpayer TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS and makes TARP look like a drop in the ocean. But since it is getting no coverage, the public remains in blissful ignorance.
Every one of us needs to be calling our congressmen and DEMANDING that this be stopped! Otherwise we will be paying for this for generations.

The economy may have a little more of an uptrend in the next month or two, But I see a major down move after that, and the market will at least touch its low of about 6500 on the Dow 30, with no end in sight for troubling news on the horizon with the environment laws, Unions, Freedom of speech, and many other Socialist programs!
One of the biggest issues for me, is that some of this jobless stuff is on purpose by the Obama administration. A Hannity Fox News show showed that 80,000 current jobs are being lost since the California government refuses to give water to inland California farmers since it might endanger a 2 inch fish. Personally, it always bothers me when some humans do not worry about their own species first. And then there was the Republican proposal that one could create as many jobs as Obama claimed to for zero dollars – by just letting Americans drill their own oil or build nuclear plants as even France has done. But Obama has elected to create offshore oil jobs more, send more dollars overseas and put Americans out of work rather than offend a caribou, or something like that.
I saw that, and that rep. was rather irate, as he should be. It was nice to see him stick up for the hard working farmers in his district., instead of the government leaches out there. I also saw a while back that the wildlife up north hang around the oil pipeline for the heat, so at least those animals won't freeze to death. I agree, drill where there is oil in the U.S. so we can become more self sufficient, and use coal. Obama himself preached about using coal, but that was before he was elected.
Some humans don't put their "species" first because they don't understand the possibility of personal starvation. They "feel" that the government will always be their salvation or they don't believe they should be alive in the first place.
Are those the ones who are too stupid to take care of that pesky 'alive' thing themselves?
This is a great post Marine. I graduated in Economics, and we had Keynesianism shoved down our throats as accepted truth. But what always bothered me about it is exactly what you're saying here, and liberals just don't seem to understand. It's so simple. EVERY DOLLAR THAT THE GOVERNMENT PUTS IN TO THE ECONOMY WAS ALREADY TAKEN OUT OF THE ECONOMY IN A DIFFERENT FORM. That form is either taxes, debt (manifest as future taxes) or inflation (manifest when they just print money). The government can do nothing but transfer wealth. Production, innovation and wealth comes from the individual, and from government staying out of the way.
I am struck by the positive spin the Obama-controlled Media places on the job hemorrahage. ONLY half a million private sector jobs lost people! Lets all jump up and down and wave the Flag! Can you imagine what the same Lame-stream Media would be saying if a GOP were at the helm? "Another half-million Americans have lost their paychecks with (fill in the blank) sitting in the WH ordering $100 a lb beef and wasting precious tax-dollars on useless, terrifying fly-bys of NYC as well as spending $500 on sneakers when many go shoeless! At best, experts say MAYBE some of those without paychecks now may have them by the END OF THE YEAR…that should give them "comfort" implies the WH.

Since I don't believe anything that comes out of the mouths of anyone in the Federal Government, I don't see a silver lining anywhere. Ohio has a jobless rate over 9 % right now, with more jobs going down the tubes daily. I've been out of work for almost two years now because no one wants to hire someone my age (62) except Walmart and they don't have any openings right now. My husband just got layed off two weeks ago. He's not going to have any easy time finding work either. We'll be fine because we were prepared for this and took precautions, but there are many here that are losing homes and everything they have because of the lack of jobs. Hard to see any improvement here, but there's always hope that things will eventually get better.
Yes, there is always hope. However, hope without action is just, hope. Have you thought of what it is that you can do? Have you thought of anything other than hope?

Yes acheyjake I have thought of what I CAN do and I'm doing it. Like I said, we were prepared for this and we'll come through it fine. I'll keep hanging on to that "hope" though because it's something I never want to lose.

In what I said before only goes to show you that there are alot more people out of work than what is reported. For they only report the number on those that are getting the benefits.
I have been out of work for a yr now but thank God my spouse has a job with a good company. I worked for a Canadian Bank here in the New England Area and have not been able to find work here in Maine. You have to fight hard to get the unemployment for alot of the emploers are stateing to the unemployment office that you left the job at your own will, which in alot of cases was not true. But once they state it you can't get what is rightfully yours in unemployment. You can walk in with a copy of the pink slip but they call and go by what they are told .
Where are they hiring? Not around where we live! Not even WALMART is hiring here. Almost all the males in my family are out of work. And about half of the women are under employed or are barely hanging in there. My daughter is going to borrow the money to continue her education right now. Smart move. At least she has the ability to do that. Our son doesn't. I am glad your wife is hanging in there with you. My mother in law said that struggle made life worth living. I think she may be right to a degree.
We live in Columbia, SC. I do understand it is very difficult to find work in Michigan and the mid-west area. I found a few temp jobs on <a href=”http://www.craigslist.org” target=”_blank”>www.craigslist.org The job I started on Thursday I found on this site. Worth a look.
We have already tried Craigs and Monster. No one has replied to online apps etc.
This does not surprise me. I think this unemployment both hurts and helps Obama. But the ball is in his court now. My two kids are out of jobs (daughter's last day is June 1 and she is taking her vacation now). Our son has lost his job in construction last November. Last year was a very bad year anyway—he was barely making ends meet. His wife decided to divorce rather than get strong. They had to file a chapter 7 and he has lost everything. EVERYTHING. He quit depending on his union to find him work (he is about 200 back in the line). He is putting applications and resumes EVERYWHERE and will take whatever job there is anymore. He will probably end up coming to live with us once he is evicted. 15 years of work and equity gone. I keep waiting for the magic stimulus to kick in. Looks like it isn't.
NancyNurse, I understand what your son is going through. Last November the builder I was working with stopped building new homes. I have found a few odd jobs here and there. It has been tough for my wife and me. Tell your son not to give up. Employers are hiring. It just takes time and effort to find the right one.
I went through the same thing your son is going through in 2003, Two days after the divorce settlement, I got laid off, after refinancing my home for $20,000.00 more than I paid for it 20 years ago just to keep it. I cashed in my retirement plans to save my house, finally found a job and pulled out of it. Now I am laid off again, and I am barely making it. There aren't even any part time jobs around here, much less full time jobs, but something will come up. Tell your son to keep the faith, things will turn around, they did for me back then, and I have faith they will again.

Where in Oklahoma? We have friends in Jay and Shawnee. I will check with them. Pretty hard to move for our son. He has a child who lives here and he doesn't want to leave him. No money and no credit–he doesn't know where he might be able to relocate, only if we do and he comes along. Our daughter was in banking and I am sure she can find something. She's a very hard worker and her credit is fine (so far). Our son has boxed himself into a bad corner. My brother (in chicago) is laid off with no hope of getting another job (at age 50, it is pretty hard to start again with bad credit). My nephew is doing odd jobs. Fortunately his wife owns a shop and they are treading water. They live near Elkhart, Indiana where Huckabee appeared a few weeks ago. The economy here has been in a downward trek ever since the 60's. I would say it is a depression here. Will pray all your family finds provision miracles. And that God strengthens you. Our family saw miracles in layoff, but we had to learn humility to receive them. Could any of your family do those census jobs? I hear the government has lots of jobs, sigh.

Hi Nancy, sorry to hear this. I am afraid you have lots of company. My brother is out of work (construction), my employer just reduced my hours and dropped my health care. My small business is shrinking due to the businesses I provide service to are shrinking and reducing their hours to part time too.
We need industry to return to this country. Our country cannot prosper as a consumer driven economy. Without manufacturing and actually producing goods in this country we cannot survive. Hey everyone, stop buying imported crap. Our wallets are shrinking anyway so how hard can it be to stop buying stuff except what is needed like groceries?
I agree, but buying American might be pretty hard to do. There is no incentive for manufacturers to stay in America. I am told (by an exec at New Balance Shoes) that you cannot even buy an American made shoe lace in the USA anymore. Sad, isn't it? Trade agreements only work if equal amounts of good go out as what comes in—in tonnage and in monetary value.
Only TWO things to start with…
1. Remove everyone who is not here legally. This will open up millions of jobs for Americans and cure the unemployment problem very quickly.
2. Give welfare and assistance to only the TRULY needy. If you have a cell phone a big screen television or do drugs you have no business getting assitance from the American people.
You can fill those jobs that suggestion #1 cures….No more freebies…

I understand and agree with #1. However, how many techies from silicon valley do you think will go to the farm lands in, for example, San Juaquin valley and pick them fields? Zero. Sorry to say, but most of the illegals are needed here to do the stuff WE Americans refuse to do. Yeah, we will stand on our box and scream that we will do it, but when the time comes, the most we may do is a weeks worth. After that, we will all complain about being tooo tired, this work is humilating to me, etc etc. I was laid off once and tried to perform a job that I haven't done in 15 years which was for minimum wage. I have 4 sons and knew needed to make ends meet, but at what price? The life we have become accustomed to needs the slaves, ooops sorry, illegals (which IMO is the current word for slaves).
What we need to do about them is to control the bleeding heart organizations out there that are for them. They are the problem, not the illegals themselves. Also, we need to get off our azzes more often and start doing some of that work, or start accepting pay cuts, or just start working for lower wages, don't buy anymore movies or cd's download all of them, etc. Maybe then the price of life can go down a lil because people can no longer afford the high life.
#2 I agree only for the big screens and drugs part. Cel phone is more necessary due to the idiots at the phone company.

Wait.. Wait…. Job Rates will go down as Obama Promised. The stimulus monies are there waiting for the Census Workers to be hiried. Now after ACORN Fills Most of these positions, the Few jobs left will be passed down to the American Citizens previous layed off (Thanks to Policial Correctness) who paid their taxes & paid their bills. Then after the Census are complete those Temporary jobs, the " few" will be layed off again while those Chosen will continue working for the Government of our Country, "THE NEW AMERICA".
The so called silver lining in this story is the drop in the rate of unemployment rate compared to months earlier. The 2010 census program is the biggest reason they increased Government jobs (75,000). I don't think that these jobs should be counted as any kind of silver lining. More government jobs=more taxes. Think about it. If we all worked for the government, where the heck are they going to get the money from? Tax us 100%? Then what….no growth, no nothing. These government jobs are supposed to be temporary, but BO will find a way to generate some more government jobs to replace them. This is insane.
Obama smiles every time the unemployment numbers go up as this gives him another opportunity to never let a crisis go to waste. He knows at least his job is safe through 2012. So I am sure we will see more of NBC's news coverage of Obama out and about at burger joints spending more of taxpayer money. That's why he put $5.00 in the tip jar because it was not his money. He and Biden watch their money like a hawk.

I didn't see anything positive. Are the markets still watching the dead cat bounce? Mr. Bernake's (sp) T-bill sale didn't seem to go as planned. I think it's tough to be optimistic about the direction we are heading.
You're absolutely right. Obviously I was being a bit facetious in my comment. I find it hilarious that the mainstream media are reporting the fact that this is the lowest monthly job loss number in six months as a sign that the economy is turning around. It's still half a million jobs. Such a figure was unheard of only a year ago, and now it's some kind of victory? No my friend, I fear we have nothing to be optimistic about at this point.

Remember that this info comes from the same group of prevaricators that told us that "95% of the American people would get a tax cut" and failed to mention that you would 1) pay taxes on the tax cut and 2) even people not paying taxes would get a tax cut! Add to that the fact that the Bush tax cuts will be allowed to expire and you see a trend! If it comes from the government, Dem or Repub, it's very suspect.
If you add back in the 66,000 Temporary hires for the Census Workers (probably mostly ACORN people) the rate of job loss is not declining. Only two growth industries remain government workers and the medical industry. However the President bragged this week that they had already created or saved 150,000 jobs with the Stimulus Funds distribtuted todate. Let's see 6.7 million jobs lost in the last six months less 150,000. Man we have only lost a net of 6.6 Million jobs. How do they know which jobs are saved? God save America from this evil.
I question the percentage. I live in an area of the Country that has 16.2% unemployment. I have read other news sources that state similar statistics from many areas of the Country. Like other information that the government provides, I wonder if they are doing funny math to make it look less critical? Since companies pay unemployment taxes to the State on our wages, there should be a fund that will sustain the unemployment payments to those out of work? Or is this going to be another area that in a few months the US government will spend more taxpayer dollars to cover State UI payments. Any one know how this system is holding up?
I don't know how other states do it, but in PA. they take a percentage (not sure how much) deduction of your wages. Weather it goes to the state, or fed. govt., I do not know.
I think I heard yesterday (its hard to keep it organized, he has something new everyday) that The One, is letting the people on unemployment continue to draw while they go to school. That it should be a time for the unemployed to not only look for work but to prepare for a better job. Now don't that sound rosy. I can hear the excuses already. " I cant get a job, I'm going to school". And how long will the extensions continue? Until they finish school?

Friend, of course the federal government will spend more money taken from working taxpayers. Think about it, it is an idea that cannibalizes its self.
A group of people in one state vote for politicians that lead that state down the road to ruin. The politicians that lead that state down the road to ruin then tell their constituents they will take care of them by asking for money from the federal government, money taken from other states, and those constituents are happy with that because, even though they can't find jobs, they are being taken care of by the politicians who lead the state down the road to ruin. This in turn leads those who actually work in that to state to quit working because they see their neighbors not working and living ok just the same.
Do you get my point? Your area of the country has a 16.2% unemployment rate because of the people in your area of the country. Don't tell me, you live in the rust belt or you live in some region heavily controlled by progressive democrats.

I spoke with a retired 71 year old woman today who is working a part-time job. She started talking about the economy and bumper stickers that she has on her car. She said that she was told by he daughter that she should remove the right wing stickers. She said she'd go to jail first. Said if the government thought she was a terrorist then we were in bigger trouble than she thought. I politely corrected her from terrorist to extremist. I think a lot of people are having a tough time controlling feelings of doubt, confusion, and down right concern for where we are heading as a Nation. God Bless and keep the Faith.
