Who cares about the baseball BS? I submit that it is of little importance to the overwhelming majority of those participating in the discussions posted here. How about they start posting things that we can really sink our teeth into, for a change?
I'm not so sure what is unusual about this. We are learning that teachers, as in California, that are accused of child sex abuse or other problems stay on the payroll and need to do no work. Many of us are not sure that many in Congress work much, yet they are paid a lot. Several of the CEOs and CFOs that ruined their companies and got a bailout also got huge bonuses – which is also as the music band Dire Straits would say – Money for Nothing and the Checks are free. Some priveleged groups as defined by the government such as illegal immigrants or welfare people can get free college education or free cars, something that will never be available to us. But our problem of course, is that we are supposed to be the working class that supports ALL of these people somehow – government, big business, special interest groups and sports figures. The next problem is that as the non working group grows through more and more government, sports, and special interest group payouts and the private sector falls as the government takes over more of it, how does this smaller and smaller group of us pay for this huge non working population?
Hey, I have a great idea. We should have 2 MLB divisions. One division would be MLB Pumped, all steroids all the time. The players salaries would be lowered because we could mass produce more powerful baseball players with a high rate of turnover, due to a low shelf life. Therefore ticket prices would go down. One division would be MLB Organic, powered by 100 percent man. No growth hormones, antibiotics, just corn fed free ranging men! These players would get paid more because they would have to work harder than MLB Pumped. The downside would be not as many home runs, but when an Organic player jacks one out of the park, its all good! The 9/12 project, solving America's problems one at a time! Isn't that what were all about!
i only got two views.
first …. who cares? it's some overpaid baseball player pumping some of the old "whatever" and he got busted … who cares.
second, hey, let's get all the season ticket holders together and class action sue the doctor??? HUH!?!??! YEAH!!!! it'll be great. I mean all these athletes getting caught with the new acceptable "my doctor gave me something he thought i could have" line. let's start sueing these doctors for defaming our heroes and devalueing our incredibly overpriced tickets. Some lawyer should specialize in this. I mean Doctors of multi million pro athletes not even taking a second to glance over if they are endangering the livlihoods of these athletes whose ONLY asset is their ability to play the sport.
NEG-LEEEEEE-GENT!!!!! and to quote the Umpire "YOU ARE OUT,SIR!!!!!"
That's the problem – it is real. Who out there, regardless of their occupation or salary, would get caught in a drug test, retain their job, salary, and position with no retribution? "I'm suspended from work? With pay? Ok, I'm going on vacation". See you in 2 months.
That's what talent and a real good agent will get you.
This article sucks because now we are starting to sound like the class envy weenies in the (D) column. You can boo hoo all you want, but it will not change a thing. Be honest, which one of us would turn down that kind of guaranteed money. Get Real.
We got took!

What is the obsession with sports in this country. It is only a game. It is only entertainment.
I admit, I like the entertainment myself. On a cold, dreary Saturday afternoon, nothing hits my spot like a good SEC football game on the TV (well maybe one other……that's another post).
If these guys want to wreck their bodies, hey, let them be. If they and their occupation weren't placed on such a high pedestal and worshiped (translated: PAID MULTI-MILLIONS), maybe they would have second thoughts about taking these drugs. Clubs can pay these outrageous salaries because we are willing to buy the tickets and advertisers are willing to pay enormous amounts for ad time.
In that last paragraph I started one sentence with "Clubs can pay these outrageous salaries"…..This is a truth in itself, no law should interfere with that.
These athletes being brought before the Congress of the United States because of their use of legal drugs, whatever they are, is asinine.
Maybe someday things will go myway.
I have had a problem with the way some sports leagues pay the professional athletes for about 15 years. That problem is that players get paid just to show up, or in this case, not show up.
The MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL should pay the athletes the same way the PGA, Pro tennis, and Nascar does–pay for performance.
When I want to see baseball, I'll go to a minor league game.
The players union is probably in Obama hip pocket too. By him continuing to get paid, the unions will keep getting their money as well. Obama will make sure of that.
1. Quarnel. thanks. I don't know much about the MLB, this Manny fellow. I believe that those over him should clamp down if he is judged to be in violation. Statistics show this country takes alot of drugs it should not be on, so clean up where you can make a difference.
2. I did like the the 5/7/2009 show. Do we pray constructionist thinking prevails in all courts vis a vis intracommerce and intercommerce?
The example being set for our upcoming generations is terrible and yet we condone the damage with our silence and continued attendance.
What does this have to do with 9/12? Let's try not to have irrelevant stories to the cause on this site.
CULATR2,
See my post just entered above, It could become relevant.
Maybe. Maybe we should have a league for all the drug freaks and another one for normal people. If you mix it, it puts pressure on the normal people to take the drugs or they lose income. That's relevant, but I think it's on the fringe of the purpose of this site.
I hear BHO wants to be the comissioner. Why are the players bonuses not taxed like the CEO's bonuses? To me this is a bonus-how is earing this money?
Bet he won't be taxed……….
Why do we assume that our athletes should be held to a higher ethical standard ( the HCG was prescribed legally for low testosterone, but MLB had it on the 'banned' list) when the people we choose to run the country, Pelosi, Reid, Rangel, ad nauseam continually conduct themselves unethically. I'd love to see the mainstream media focus on our elected officials with the same fervor that they do on this silly story.
Please! Let's not stink with class envy here. Do we really know what he was taking or are we relying on celebrity gossipmongers? What are we taking ourselves?
As for news, the masses rely on PEOPLE and STAR and Sports Illustrated and USAToday , which are poll driven, star driven, lib spin. I want gravitas news!
,912 website handlers: Could 912 get off the sensational junk?
Let's find some good news about states sovereignty issue. People let's put our energy to better use
LET's DO IT!!
You, my friend, are right.
1) This story doesn't belong on this site, because this in NOT an ethical issue. Manny took a drug prescribed by his Doc. This was not undocumented, so he was not trying to hide anything. Pretty sure, if you know Manny, you know he was not aware at the time he was taking a drug banned by the MLB.
2) Can we have news that builds up our spirits. Something to rally behind would be much appreciated. The TV show last night (5/7/2009) was very optimistic. We need more news like that, here on this site, not more garbage to complain about.
This is not about class envy, to be posted on this site. It has to do with the lies that individuals tell to the public to try to stay in a favorable light instead of telling the truth (can you say ex-governor Blagovitch). It is about the cheating and lying that goes on every day just to try to be the "top dog", and that we as a society reward those that cheat and lie. Do you know why a male would be prescribed HCG? It can be prescribed to counter the withdrawal symptoms from long term steriod use.
This also shows how the baseball unions have protected the players and allowed the denial to continue instead of standing up and flushing the toilet.
I still think there is a bit of envy on here, instead of humility and civility. I think we as a people(even me) lie to make us look better. We need to confess those. But we can be civilly honest. Decency over vulgarity as O'Reilly expanded on 5/7/2009. Why I will not watch CNBC and MSNBC, soaps, etc.
We need God's help to be more 912 every day, as Glenn urged us to do.
Police ourselves despite what the unionized POPular and populace do.
In the end bad behavior will have real consequences.
Stop paying for tickets and/or buying the branded merchandise, and this becomes a non-issue (because it wouldn't happen)
Everyone knows athletes can get away with anything. look at OJ, they can even get away with murder.
It's all about the money…..I no longer partake in any professional sports. Maybe when I was growing up during the heyday of Mantle, Maris, Gibson and others, I was just sheltered and naive. These folks were our idols, we spent our summers playing out their heroics on the ballfield.
Let them all get paid what the average Joe gets……but it's all about the money. Can the owners and sponsors make more money than it costs them to hire these folks.
As far as I am concerned, they can all go away…………and we sure don't need Congress involved in fixing this. We see how they have done with all the other messes.
What a disgrace the sports arenas has become.. The people that are guilty of promoting this type of behavior is ourselves.. We are the ones that pay the ridicules hi prices for tickets and to attend the games in the first place. Also we buy the products that endorse the teams and players on the media. And yes, pay the taxes to put up the stadiums. It is totally ridicules what some baseball players draw down in salaries. No wonder why they will do anything to lower themselves by using drugs to stay on top legally or illegally . Its all about the money, not the sport.. SHAME ON THEM, SHAME ON US.. I personal have been boycotting baseball in the name of principle for many years now..
X Baseball lover
Now that Manny is in the NL West he is a god in the division. His godness is second to only Obama. Of course, he's in LA, so he seems to fit right in. Both #1 and #2 gods are undeserving.
A normal person gets caught using drugs and gets to go to jail (prison if it is repeated). Ramirez gets caught and spends no time in jail, just gets suspended for 50 games.
The way most of these guys live their lives, this could well bankrupt the man. They really don't know how to manage money very well.
Another "superstar" that thinks the rules don't apply to him. Why we even consider these jerks as role models is beyond me.
Gee thats an awfully rough penalty don't you think… I mean how's he gonna survive on 20 million? Good thing we have the welfare system…
Awesome point!
Not interested in this story. Beck could post more important issues which truly concern us.
No you are wrong White_Rose, This IS an important story. It is a clear reflection of what we are doing, and what we are showing our kids. We are basically saying….CHEAT, LIE, Do what you need to do to get what you want…who cares if you get a small punishment, look at what cheating can do for you… This is a CLEAR moral and values issue. I understand we get sick of seeing and hearing these stories about sports stars, movie stars and the like, but it is our fault for letting this happen too. We as a nation have let the left define what is allowed or OK. If we all stopped going to games or stopped watching games, how fast would ALL cheating be gone? This might not be the biggest issue, or the most pressing, but trust me, it is eatting our core values away just as surely as those other issues are.
I just feel the story is not as important as the stories that threaten our freedoms and security. I do agree with how you feel about this story and it is important but is this more important than Russia and China's up incoming war games this summer? Is it more important than China's build up of it's navy fleet and yearly increases of it's military funding? Is more important than the stories of those dissolving our constitution? I just can't prioritize the bread and circuses of this nation above life' liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I love all sports and played football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey and golf so don't get me wrong I love my bread and circuses as much as the next guy this is just my opinion. Thanks for responding.
Who cares which affelets take drugs let them all shoot up whatever they want.
The real problem is outrageous money they make, because we're silly enough to pay to watch them
AMEN !!!
And they say cheaters never win….and its how you play the game….neither are true anymore.
Hey, He's Unemployed !!, He can now qualify for a Free Welfare Car to carry the 20 million around with him while looking for side work.
Whats the big deal? I mean come on, wasn't it fun to watch in wondernent at the freakshow that was major league baseball? Mark McGuire with forearms like popeye, Sammy Sosa with a new zit of the week, and who could forget Barry Bonds' monsterous head! These were anabolic good times and I for one think there should be nothing but an asterisk and a lifetime ban from the hall of fame, thats preventing these guys from sticking needles in each others butts.
I'm not saying this man should be attacked or held up as a symbol of greed or corruption, but I really do wonder why athletes like him, hollywood stars, rock stars, etc. aren't being attacked in the same way a guy who works 15 hours a day and was promised a certain bonus is attacked? At least the corporate guy worked hard and isn't doing drugs. I'm not defending or advocating anything, but I'm just wondering why the corporate guy is pure evil who deserves (according to a lot of people) to be threatened along with his family for making so much money, but these other people who are far richer and don't even work in a traditional sense deserve to be role models. Is it because this segment of society is mostly liberal and they don't want to lose the votes?
Yeah, crap story. But then again this ball player is crap. I used to love baseball, and was pretty good myself. It's sad that I wont take my boys to a pro ballgame because of stuff like this. It seems nothing is fair anymore. You cheat and earn millions. Wonder what he will say when God asks him why?
Why is this news? I prefer not to give this man any press except to make him an example to kids, "HEY! DON'T DO THIS!" Too bad the 20 million will send the wrong message to them.
I ask honestly, are there honorable people still out there? Why are people like this so richly rewarded for such poor behavior? I miss people like Tom Landry. <sigh>
Oh poor guy! At least he can still play wiffleball at home.
My line of thought that this could become relevant was because of the possibility of GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION in yet another private, non-government arena.
I see your point. Kind of like sticking their nose in the college football BCS. Geez, where will it stop. When they do that, that's when you know your government wants power over everything. I am not fooled by the socialist agenda to take care of everybody's everything for them. It is just desire for control and power masquerading as altruism. When you are the source of sustenance for everything, you have all the power.
I see your point.
