I must ask all of you to check out http://www.infowars.com a real eye opener, the swine flu vaccination causing brain damage and even death 25 already died that recieved vaccination. government ring to force youth vaccination already refused by police, fire departments, nurses union. You must go to your schools and put a letter in their files demanding no medical care without your athority or consent. do not let them vaccinate with out your knowledge. THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU VACCINATE OUR CHILDREN DEPEND ON US FOR THEIR SAFETY AND WELLBEING AFTER ALL CAN YOU REALLY TRUST YOUR GOVERNMENT HOWS THAT HOPE AND CHANGE WORKING OUT FOR YOU

although we sit here and attack the Obama agenda he is nothing more than a puppet. The heart of the problems we face today is a entity known as the builderberg group. this group consist of the most powerful rich bankers in the world. they are not new they were around in power when Abraham lincoln warned us about them. They have had a vision of a new world order in which they will controll all. Obama has filled the white house with nothing but wallstreet tycoons and hyjacked all the major banks and big corprate buisnesses.all presidents starting with bush senior have said we are seeing a new world emerging before us, bush said we are army of one and a new world order, obama said we are going to have a new world order. The wars we rage are not for the reasons given by the media our government is raising the new rome power to controll the world under its fist.i know it sounds like a conspiracy theory but look at where we are headed and how the government is tring to devide us into hating eachother and the total run to controll all we do by taking over energy, health, banks, private sector buisnesses, wallstreet what is left your freedoms and your liberties stripped away wake up america the outlook is grim if they get what you fear they are after.

  3. I think People need to STOP with the panic.
Check the facts on swine flu.
-100-150 people infected in this country out of 300+ million? The media is blowing this thing up for ratings. pure and simple. the same way they did with the "killer" staff infection. I would'nt be suprised if this is an attempt by some to take the spotlight off of the us govt. Please everyone keep focused on the "Other Hand".

  4. sailing5660 says:

Thanks. I hope everyone is calling, emailing or faxing their Senators. This is the only way we can possibly stop this.

The only crisis for them is if they didn't have one.

Pretty funny. Someone dinged me down for horseradish. Ha! Who'd ever think horseradish would be controversial!

I wasn't trying to be funny. It's an old family remedy for stuff. Guess someone doesn't understand family traditions. Too bad.

MY MESSAGE WAS NOT RUDE OR CRUDE OR NASTY…

Happens a lot my friends. Certain words, I guess, cause review. Although, I had one comment 2 days ago that had, as far as I'm aware of, no problems but it also went into "space" for review. The review process does ruin the continuity of responses and makes this site a bit difficult and maddening.

It just happened to me too; never did before. I don't know why.

  11. mike9351 says:

This playdo admin and thief will have a crisis everyday until they have evry bit of control over us, we cannot wait until all our money is in their control and we are unable to do anything. Because i am saying it now it will not be to long before the worst mistake in american history lets the boogyman sneek in our back door and were really in a fight, WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING NOW!

  12. samadams66 says:

My gut tells me this is too good of a crisis to let go to waste. I laid in some extra food yesterday just in case our CIC (chicken little in chief) declares a quarantine in a major metro area (I live in a big city with lots of travel). He and Dead Fish Rahm can use this as the first steps in controlling his sheeple. If not this crisis maybe the next one….

The Romans used bread and circuses to keep the masses fed and entertained while they laid waste to Rome. BO is using fear and chaos to lead the lemmings off the cliff after him.

  13. I sound so cocky because I've coughed of a lung before when I was about ten. The doctor had no idea why and said if it continues I might die….pretty danm scary for a ten year old.

As far as the other things, no, I haven't and I pray I never have to see it

    • NancyNurse says:

What did you have? TB? When I say cough up a lung, I mean big chunks about the size of stew meat. It is very alarming to even see, let alone experience and most folks who get that bad don't live. The other things that A-h1n1 can cause is lung consolidation—- where your lungs fill completely up with fluid and you literally drown in your own fluid. With that you get short of breath, very, very weak, and produce frothy pink sputum. The cough eventually gets weaker and weaker, because your muscles get too tired from the respiratory effort. I have had that before and was about 10 miutes away from needing a vent. They pumped me full of solu-cortef to control the over reaction and aminophylline that gives you one of the worst headaches known to man.

Another week another crisis. Let's hope that the "one" is satisfied when this is finished playing out.

  18. Juls says:

Seems like a reason for the admin to push their health care agenda. All these sick people and so many without health care…."O" says, don't worry, the government will take care of you, but first you have to submit to my health care plan…

  19. KZ1776 says:

The 1976 flu. I remember that well. I ended up getting the flu that year because I wouldn't get the shot. It was a horrible experience that kept you running from both ends, and that was a mild case I'm told.

We have nothing to fear but fear itself. The Obama administration has nothing to offer us but crisis with a heaping helping of fear. Notice how there has to be a crisis almost every week to keep Obama's poll numbers up? Every time he, r his administration hits a gaffe, a new crisis springs up to rescue him from a polling disaster. Anyone else notice that besides me?

    • Dojochick says:

YES! Hence the birth (rebirth actually) of the phrase,"never let a crisis go to waste". I am generally not a paranoic but I honestly think this flu outbreak is the vehicle Pres.B.O. will use to usher in his socialist healthcare as well as the crisis that he will use to usher in A-mex-ica..One Unity Against Disaster….as that country will need our vaccine, funding, military support, relaxed immigration, etc. Does ANYONE else see a TREND here?

Personally I will avoid crowded places unless I can't but I won't run from them.It is common sense that a politician try to ease peoples fears no exasperate them.

  21. MeJane says:

I like how when the Gov't. was asked "should we close the border?" the answer was "No, it's too soon. Now they are asked again and we're told, "Oh its too late, it could have been contained in the first 48 hours". What is the matter with these people? Are they crazy, incompetent, evil, what? If this becomes a major pandemic, and thousands die Janet Nap. and Obama's whole administration should be brought up on murder charges!

    • KWilliams says:

No Not murder charges. Crimes against humanity charges.

    • acheyjake says:

Nothing the matter with these people, MeJane, there is something the matter with us people.

      Get your mind around that.

    • Hobbes says:

I suppose by not closing the border, our hospitals will now have to take care of the sick people fleeing from the closed or unwilling to treat hospitals in Mexico.

      • MeJane says:

Looks to me like they are trying to take it all from us: body, country, spirit, mind, home, job, and money. I can't think of one thing that has not been assaulted!

    • patriotmom61 says:

The decision to not close the border and the reasoning behind it is absolutely criminal! Is it not obvious that this means one of 2 things: either Obama is the dumbest, most naieve person ever to hold the office of the presidency, or he actually wants this health crisis to cripple our country so he can swoop in and save us (just heard today on FOX about the stockpiles of flu meds in guarded locations throughout the country.) Lest we forget the warning Biden gave during the campaign about the testing of Obama within 6 months of his taking office. I think this whole swine flu thing was orchestrated by the administration and they are perplexed and discouraged that it has not taken the deadly toll on us as was predicted at its onset. I am fully convinced that they WANT this flu to spread as far and wide as possible. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but this is so obvious. Obama wants us to turn to him (big gov't) to save us, and this is the way he plans to force his socialist health care program on us.

    • JSL55 says:

My vote is that they're incompetent and evil.

  22. KWilliams says:

Just a side note. When you go to your emergency room on a normal night. How crowded is it???? Good I know what most of your answer's are already. Now imagine 40 to 50 million people going to the emergency room. Or better yet imagine 10 to 15 million people being hospitalized. Those of you who are in Texas , New York and California please post what you see as this progresses. Will help the rest of us.

    • Hobbes says:

Even if there's not a "panic" most people in the ER are not speaking English.

    • TXTJ says:

Just got an email from my previous secretary so she is a reputable source in my view, the email was from a relative who works at a school system near San Antonio. They have closed a few schools and are removing all desks, window blinds, etc. and sanitizing them (not sure with what) and expect the school to be closed for two weeks. Confirmed cases from that school were three with none having traveled to Mexico. Another email attached to the one above, came from a forward ,a doctor is worried panic has already set in as emergency rooms are full, and the two day wait for the test to confirm Swine Flu leaves many on the "suspected" list so he feels the count is off by at least 10-15%. He stated that if you have to go out in public wash your hands after touching anything, a gropcery cart, food, etc. as the virus can live for up to two hours for example on a table in a fast food restaurant. Sounds like if you keep your hands very clean and keep them away from your face you run a less likely risk of catching it.

    • Harrison11 says:

You know I went to the social security office the other day to do a name change. The federal government has been running that since the mid 30's. That took me 2.5 hrs to show them paperwork and send me on my way with the promise that the new card was "in the mail".
How the HELL does anyone in their right mind think that the government can manage this crisis or all of universal health care if they cant get social security right after 75 years?

  23. swine flu, swine poo(or at least the research of the odor of), it doesnt matter they will just find more reasons to spend our tax dollars!!!!!!

    • TimR says:

Where did you get the idea it is not airborne ? Coughing and sneezing spews saliva out into the air. That is airborne. Don't believe anything they are telling you. They are talking out of both sides of there mouth. Just wait a few more weeks and suddenly Obama will say that things are dire and we must immediately pass a national healthcare plan or millions of people will die. The flu is real, but they will no doubt exploit it get there agena passed.Go to the appropriate healthcare related website that has no political agenda and read what the real facts are.

The Senate Judiciary Immigration Subcommittee had a hearing yesterday. The Senators have made it clear that the only thing that will stop the Senate from passing an amnesty for illegal foreign workers this year is if regular citizens mount immediate and sustained protests. Everyone needs to call their Senators and tell them not to vote for amnesty. During the hearing nothing was even mentioned about the 13 million unemployed US workers. The Senators think that the American people will let them pass the amnesty bill that was blocked in 2007. They seem to really think we have become resigned to amnesty for illegals.

Swine Flu – OVERBLOWN HYPE for sensationalism when
20,000 to 36,000 people die every year in the United States alone from
regular plain garden variety flu. PLEASE READ the Press Release from CDC:

    Press Release

    Tuesday, January 7, 2003

    Center for Disease Control

CDC Finds Annual Flu Deaths Higher Than Previously Estimated

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today released data indicating that the estimated number of people who die from influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) per year in the United States is substantially higher than previous estimates. The data are published in the January 8 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

Using new and improved statistical models, CDC scientists estimate that an average of 36,000 people (up from 20,000 in previous estimates) die from influenza-related complications each year in the United States. In addition, about 11,000 people die per year from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a virus that causes upper and lower respiratory tract infections primarily in young children and older adults. The study demonstrates that most deaths caused by RSV occur in the elderly.

    • KWilliams says:

Well there Elroy, and what is the number of flu vaccines per year there. Even better what is the infection rate of the flu. You are not comparing apples to apples . More like apples to oranges.

  30. rrd724 says:

I wonder if they are going to use this as an excuse to suspend passport issuance ? I wouldn't doubt it, looks like they don't want anyone travelling yet they won't CLOSE the borders are stop ILLEGAL immigration.

  31. C_Marie says:

Really why is this web site airing so many articles on the flu? Every year influenza hits. This just hypes the hype.

We don't need the President to help us to the bathroom sink. We don't need to let the government tell us it's okay to eat pork. Though my heritage loves, you know da kind, luau roast and crackling skin, I have had enough of government pork. I've had enough of photo-op freak outs.

Please, GB 912 Project article Poster, could we have articles on the progressive bills pumping through Congress? And sometimes add some great news?

    • beckgether says:

Agree. We need to dig deeper. However if it wasn't talked about I guess we wouldn't learn that EVERY year 30,000 people die from the flu. That seems just outrages!!

    • cowlord9985 says:

If you need some information to comment on, the wall street journal mentioned today that congress just passed a $3.5 trillion dollar outline of projects to spend on. There's something. If you need something else, I'm not paying for that when I grow up. That should do. And no I am not the article poster. Just an American Cow.

  32. floridagal says:

What ever happened to WEST NILE disease? That was very big around here (the South) I even had a blue-jay drop dead in my back yard from it (I took it to animal disease control lab) But in the last year or so, haven't heard a word about it. Hmmmmm……. just sayin..

  33. STRIKER47 says:

Worried about the flu outbreak, start eating local honey, not the stuff sold in the stores. Natural honey will kill bacteria. In WWI one company commander gave all his men, at his expense, a small amount of Rum each day. None of his men came down with the flu. My father had to carry bodies away in WWI while in France, healthy men died within hours after coming down with the "Spanish Flu" – If I remember correctly, Rum is made different now . Use honey as a natural preventive, but if you become ill take medication.

    • think what kept them well was the alcohol (which we all know kills germs)not the honey, pediatricians actually recomend that children under 4 years old should NOT ingest honey due to its capability to support bacteria for long periods of time.

      • STRIKER47 says:

Yes, I am aware doctors now tell parents not to give their children honey, and it is a good thing my dad and mom were unware of the knowledge because they fed all of us natural honey as Dad had his own Apiaries and lets see, I think there were eleven of us. I wonder how many times the Bible uses the word Honey?
        Does anyone know the answer?

    • mrcitizen says:

Honey may kill bacteria….but the flu is a virus. So, drink lots of fluids, rest and keep to yourself. The side effects of the flu are what are deadly. beware a super high temperature and dehydration.

    • Hobbes says:

Horseradish is suppose to be good too.

    • TXTJ says:

I thought the Spanish Flu was also in this Swine Flu mix, maybe I need to research more but it has three different human types of the flu virus, the Spanish flu virus, avain flu virus and a swine virus. This is why everyone is perplexed as to how a perfect storm came about to create this particular "swine flu"? Anyone know?

    • Campstove1 says:

So a Hot Toddy is in order if I get sick? What a revolutionary Idea!

  34. MacTheKnight says:

You know its so easy for the Government to sit back and not worry about closing the Border. They don't live on the Border. But Texans do. And Texans should be very upset about all of the traffic coming in and out of Mexico every minute of every hour.
    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/04/15/govern...
In this article it says That Texans just don't have a reason . And maybe this isn't the one.
BUT, just a thought here. What if Texans just showed up in force, and blocked off the roads comming in and out of Mexico. And I wonder how many more Americans would show up to support the people of Texas.

  35. chris912 says:

Here are two articles well worth reading. Don't buy into the fear people…just practice common sense. Remember this, just as flies don't cause garbage, healthy people rarely get sick.

There are 36 cases of Foot & Mouth disease…suprisingly none in the Washington DC area. Oh…wait…that would be Foot IN Mouth disease.

  37. rcalogeroglo says:

I am more worried about this Gov't killing me than I am about Swine flu. Again, what is it with this bait and switch? Keep the public thinking about something else while we are bent over a desk or other stationary object and ^&%$#*where the sun don't shine!!!

  38. winecup says:

So I did look at the map. I know that cholera has killed thousands in Zimbabwe, yet the map shows merely a handful of cases. Look at the swine flu numbers. The above comparison alone might raise some eyebrows, especially when one hears that CDC numbers lag behind reports that we hear from media. Or did I not use the map correctly?

  39. BarbeRouge says:

That's my take too. It's not enough for something to be virulent. It has to be likewise deadly to accomplish the kind of disaster scenario listed in the Humble Opinion.

  40. Boopster says:

Holy cow, I woke up feeling pretty good this morning! Now the hypochondria has taken over. Never heard of some of these diseases.

  41. Mcubed says:

Pay No Attention to that Man behind the Curtain! Or The Huge Budget We Just Past! Or that we just keep printing cash, eventually devaluing our own currency.

Ignore the fact that we are closing Gitmo.

Ignore our reduction in offensives against Terrorism (oops I said “that word”).

Ignore those silly pirates. Forget about those Al-Queso and Taliban insurgents that are attacking in Pakistan trying to secure, I don't know maybe a Nuclear Weapon.

Ignore Iran’s pursuit of a Nuclear weapon to wipe Israel of the Globe.

Pay no attention to the Fact that Commercial Lending Failure is around the corner and it will be more expensive to bail out then the Residential Crisis.

Can somebody tell me how this distraction is supposed to take precedence over the other concerns we have in this nation? We get the flu every year and unfortunately, there are fatalities or are we really facing a plague like Stephen King's "The Stand" this time.
I better stock up on Theraflu.

  42. Mugwump says:

The Mexican Flu has cost 9 lives in Mexico, as corrected and one Mexican inside the USA…

Yesterday in the USA hundreds of people died of cancer.
Hundreds of people died from heart disease.
About a hundred US citizens died of other kinds of flu.

More people have died on US roads than all the wars combined.

So why don't we get real and take better care of ourselves??

If the Mexican Flu was a real danger, would janet close the border??

Is this a scam in order for chicken little to cry out for FREE health care??

    • Marylou says:

Mugwump you are so right. There is an average of 36,000 Americans that die from the seasonal flu each year and I don't hear a panic over that. Let God do his work and let us do ours which is to really watch what our so-called government is doing to us behind closed doors while they are screaming the sky is falling.

    • fastfacts says:

Interesting how the WHO has now raised the Pendemic level to 5 out of 6, though it has not killed that many people. I have been listening to the news and the one reporter I like to listen to always likes to stress the fact that hundreds of people die every winter from the "normal" flu.

    • Oldbikefixer says:

You just hit on something there, Mugwump… We need to start referring to this as "The Mexican Flu"! Think about it — In Egypt, they killed every hog in the country, even though no cases have even been reported there. If we can rename this so-called crisis as "The Mexican Flu", just maybe we can get that damn border fence built!

    • Oldbikefixer says:

"Uhhhhh….The sky is falling, and, uhhhh, it's raining pigs. Oh, damn, my teleprompter guy went to lunch. Anyway, we better get the gub'nint in there to fix everything!"

    • renuhope says:

I agree.. so far there aren't enough people in this country affected that would fill a 737 for a charter flight to Cancun, and I guess that we're supposed to go out and by plastic and duct tape and hide under our sofas.

    • cowlord9985 says:

Criminals and bad drivers kill per year more people than the flu kills in way longer. Which is more important? A puny microorganism that our body is unfamiliar with? Or the Al-Quaeda nutjobs who are plotting our imminent demise? A virus that will burn itself out after a while? Or an organization of sociopaths trying to obtain nuclear weapons with no regard for the concequences? Who/What should we be more afraid of? Just food for thought.

    • HazMatguy says:

Janet wouldn't close the border because she doesn't know where Canada or Mexico is at, if she did she would close the Canadian border, because don't you know, the terrorists came across the Canadian border so it naturally follows that the dangerous swine flu would come across the northern border too! (Sarcasm)

Surely Pelosi would almost ORDER or DEMAND the borders be kept open, because to secure them and lock them down would be oh so horribly Un-American…

I wouldn't trust this administration to pour pee out of a boot with the instructions written on the bottom, let alone save me from terrorism or Infectious diseases…

HEY, I know, we can all pretend we're like Reverend Wright and start accusing Obama of creating the Swine Flu virus… that's a good idea!

I can hear it now…. "Obama LIED about creatin' da Swine Flu virus and infectin' da peoples!"

    • pandabeads says:

Mugwump. Get the progressives off this site.

    • 911Patriot says:

We under this administration would never close the border or do anything in time to protect US! But we would declare "Martial Law" with all its implications after it is to late.

  43. KWilliams says:

Never Let a good Crisis Go to Waste.

I have seen many of your post that say the government is overplaying this. I frankly think they have underplayed this. They have been slow to react to the coming flu and have still to this moment have not closed the border to Mexico. Many of you might disagree but I will post my humble reason and let you judge for yourself.

Today a member of the CDC was once again posed the question of closing the border. Once again he reverberated the standard government line. The Barn door is open. But , this time he said it with a twist. His comment was that they had decided to let it come across the border and attack the problem in communities and try to contain it at the local levels to slow the transmission rate. Key word there is slow. I have been posting Close the Border now for several days not to contain the virus but to slow it down. In my humble opinion that if not slowed down and allowed to hit on a widespread basis it would be economically a disaster for this country. Here has been my reasoning all along.
If you study the transmission in this virus it is highly contagious. As more and more travelers from Mexico are allowed to enter the country it speeds up the transmission rate in the general population of the U.S. Now because they are allowing it to enter all across the border where you could have fought it at local levels more effectively and with small outbreaks here and there could have been more manageable. But , now they are leaving the barn door open for Mass outbreak. A mass outbreak all across the nation will be the proverbial last nail in the coffin for us. Hospitals will be flooded beyond their ability to handle the cases. Health insurance companies will be devastated. As the virus spreads across the U.S. entire towns and cities will experience what Mexico City is going through not necessarily on a death ratio. But on a financial ratio. As a business owner imagine 12 to 16 weeks of little or no income level. Imagine the financial cost of unemployment to the states as business is forced to close down to contain the virus. Imagine the economic impact as travel bans from the world are placed on the U.S. Heath care system will collapse. The insurance companies will collapse. Local and state Governments already under a heavy financial toll will be forced into bankruptcy. All this with President Obama and his good buddies left to reshape the country into a so-ci-alist country when Humpty Dumpty is put back together again. I agree with Glenn always keep your eye on the other hand. I think that they made a decision not to let a good crisis go to waste. I believe that they know what is coming and have if anything acted with gross negligence at the very least and at the most have weighed what is coming with what they can use it for and decided the pain was worth the gain.

That is why I say it is very important as your businesses collapse, your states collapse and your loved ones get sick and yes some die, to hold this president responsible for his lack of leadership and for him leaving the Barn door open. This is his crisis and his irresponsibility to close the borders in a timely fashion will created mass infections that will economically change the country forever. What can we do as individual. Scream out Close the Borders. If I was Perry I would send the National guard down there right now and close the border to my state myself. The more infected people you let in the faster and more mass this becomes. Simple as that.

    My Humble Opinion.

    • wildthing61 says:

I respect your opinion, but as I read it, I can't help thinking "but this is still really just a flu". I mean there are a bunch of people in the US that have it, have not needed to be hospitalized, and have recovered. There have been interviews on TV with the students from New York that had it. They are fine now. This does not seem to be the plaque, it;s a flu. And that's why I don't understand the hysteria from the government in certain areas, but the complacency in other areas such as closing the borders. I mean, is it REALLY that dangerous? From what I have seen, NO. The one death that occurred in the US was a Mexican child who was already in poor health with other issues, prior to BEING BROUGHT INTO THE US, for treatment. My humble opinion as well, but wanted to give you another viewpoint to consider, I think a lot of this has to do with politics-not medicine.

      • winecup says:

Both valid points. My thought is that CDC's announcements are protocol-driven, responding to triggers agreed by a multi-national epidemiological experts. Just the fact that there is a level 5 pandemic alert, does not mean that the virus is more lethal. What is sinister about this flu is that it is not "just a flu" as wildthing61 stated. If there are annually tens of thousands of deaths in the US related to the flu, then if this thing is allowed to run its course, there are potentially hundreds of thousands of deaths in a year from this thing.

The fact that the death in Houston was a Mexican national is noteworthy on a political level, but not on a human level. The child's death is no less tragic because he is not American. I am sure you did not mean to imply that though.

We do not know the exact number of H1n1 infections in Mexico to know the mortality percentages; It's just getting started here; There may be better resistance in the US population infected so far. In any case, this is reminder to use common sense, be prepared, don't panic.

      • KWilliams says:

Oh I think it is politics, But more importantly money. So far as the regular flu folks one point here. The Regular flu we have a vaccine for so the infection ratio is low in comparison to what this one will be. My point to close the border call originally was to slow this thing as much as possible so a vaccine can be put into production. So far as Mortality rate. Well even if it is 1 percent and a 40 percent infection rate you are looking at 1.2 million deaths in the U.S. Frankly I am a bit curious about the 1 million coffins ordered by FEMA a bit back capable of holding six bodies each. Will seem a bit strange if that is about the exact number of deaths we have.

    • tll116 says:

I agree with you!!! I am not a conspiracy theorist, just an ER nurse turned housewife! The flu is dangerous to anyone because you don't know who will die from it and who won't. Lots of people die from complications related to the flu every year! They should have closed the border! This President is either truly incompitant or truly evil!!!!

      • tehee says:

tll116, Thank you. I have a child who was born extremely premature and was lifeflighted back to a high level hospital in Toledo from "the flu" several years ago. Needless to say I am extremely worried so anytime we get something that attacks the respratory system back on breathing treatments we go. This is why I have posed the question about the border as well. We live in a farming community our rush of farming migrants are getting ready to come into the area. The potential is there that they may not show symptoms for a week AFTER they arrive. Their children will be enrolled for the last month of school so again the potential is there for them to get an entire school system sick. If my children get sick do I have the right to sue those responsible for Derelict of duty or public endangerment? Or is "O" going to pay my medical bills for their incompetence? I mean why should I be responsible for a medical bill due to them and the people that don't have to pay, right? Yes it is only a flu, but other countries are restricting travel to contain this thing why aren't we?

    • wildthing61 says:

You might want to read: http://www.healthfreedomusa.org/?p=2433 for another perspective…

    • pandabeads says:

Closing the boarder will do little because what about people coming from planes. Mail shipped here from Mexico, and food being imported. It will do little to contain this. The CDC in may opinion has been appropriate actually overplaying this because more people die from influenza per year. 36,000 approximately. i also believe you are seeing so many deaths in Mexico because the health care their is substandard and people don't go when they are deathly ill and vaccinations are not implemented like you see in America. Plus they don't utilize proper cleaning and handling while handling food, children, and other who are affected which is why this has spread so rapidly in Mexico. But the fact that it has already spread here closing the boarders won't help now. I would just say wash hands after handling anything foreign like the mail things like that. Wash, wash, wash hands. Don't delay seeing a doctor if you become sick. They have a vaccine the shortens the life span of the virus. So just take precautions and you should be good. i honestly don't think this will become a pandemic. So please don't let the press scare you . Thanks I hope I helped.

      • KWilliams says:

Hand washing is wonderful but it is airborne. Once again I say it will not contain the flu but will slow it down where there is not a Mass outbreak that will overwhelm the Country. So I still stand by closing the borders.

      • TJwasright says:

Pandabeads I couldn't disagree with you more. Imagine being in Mexico with your family members sick and nothing available but substandard healthcare and probably very little medicine. I don't know what you would do, but if I had a very sick loved one and couldn't get appropriate care the first thing I'd do is head north of the border to the best health care system in the world, and the most abundant pharmacies in the world. And of course if I did that, I would be probably infecting many times more people. Imagine if hordes of others did the same. We truly would have a pandemic. Mexican people love their families no less than we do and will do whatever it takes to save them. The question is, are you willing to risk your own family's health because the horse is out of the barn?

    • Goober says:

Take another look at the map… it is TOO late. Now we each have a responsibility to each other to protect ourselves as best we can. Get ready… have plenty of food and supplies then we all will have to go on lock down so that those who are not yet afftected will emerge after it peters out. I am more worried about the death toll we may or may not be hearing about. Tough times ahead kids. I will be praying for all of us!

    • The border even when closed is a lot like a barn door it only realy 1/2 shuts look at all the "undocumented Immigrants" (just wanted to be pc.)The truth is this is just a flu period it is treated successfully with tamiflu and is no more harmful than the regular flu.Every year aprx. 36000 americans die of the flu most of these are the elderly and infirmed just as the deaths that occured in mexico from this flu. This is just another excuse by this administration to spend tax payers money.I have zero respect for the CDC or the board of doctors and physicians ever since the jointly claimed gun violence as an epidemic and wanted their input on laws to be passed as part of the attn. generals department.

  45. SnowDogMom says:

There has always been more out there that we never have known about in other countries. Think of this people. How did the Swine Flu spread so fast. Well all the planes that people coming out of Mexico were on landed in all different places then continued on . The planes have never been disinfected and are still out there travelling along and spreading more. This to me is a set up for the Healthcare Plan. You know they will never admit to us that they should of grounded all the planes that people had travelled on from Mexico that would disrupt travel and the airlines would loose money. Now they will loose more cause people will not travel till this is over.

Summary of notes from Stats 101: 1) The size of the graph matters. When a single point on the graph covers New Hampshire, one must wonder if the point represents every person living in New Hampshire, or one person in New Hampshire, or one person in Boston and New Hampshire is just unfortunate enough to be north of Boston and under the point? 2) "Reported" cases. Not substantiated, not diagnosed, not verified, "reported." And, we all know what a stellar job the media does "reporting." Who here is just so sick and tired of being manipulated? I have enough drama in my life that is REAL…I don't need the dems and, now the WHO, creating more, thanks.

Here is an article on this latest Swine Flu outbreak that is well worth reading: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archiv...

  50. htrn says:

This is exactly why I believe we could be going way overboard on the swine flu. It is real, it is here, this is true. It is good to be prepared, but the media is treating this as the next black plague and I just can't see this going on.

The flu could be nasty this year but there have been other years where it is nasty. There are so many other things going on that we cannot spend all of our time focused on this particular issue. While we are doing this we take our eyes off the ball in other places where we need to take our country back. Keep pressure on the clowns in Washington. They're getting room to breathe which will make them think they can either pass legislation that damages the country or they need to before the eyes come back.

Let's keep our eyes on the ball. Be prepared, but don't loose focus!

    God Bless America!

  51. NancyNurse says:

Actually this map is very reassuring. You would not believe what goes on in most hospitals. Ask any infection control nurse in the USA. And yes, these lists of diseases are very carefully monitored and checked/cross referenced by case, contacts, strain, and source case. This map is really very, very good news. The more developed the country and health care system, the more likely that the country has a bunch of spots on the map. And yes, there is still plague in the world. In fact, I know that during Vietnam or soldiers were immunized against that one and given preventative for malaria (which didn't always work) and leprosy. Yes, leprosy. I imagine that our troops today have been given similar innoculations. Better to get a shot in basic training than to spend days in the field with a 106 degree temp and no effective treatment.

Been there, but never worked there. All over the rest of the continental USA, though. As you know, TB is a condition that is found in portal cities, especially those connected to large Asian, African and Latino populations. I did a lot of work on TB, HIV/Aids, Malaria, flu, and mosquito vectored conditions such as elephantiasis, filarial lymphadenopathy, etc., many conditions that are seen in the tropical regions of the world, including Hawaii. I love Maui. My daughter is planning a visit there in a week. I hope she will be able to go and be safe. She probably will be fine on Maui, as it is not densely populated, but going through the airport in Chicago might be bad. I am doing a lot of praying these days. On my knees praying.

  54. fastfacts says:

Okay, so this morning a report comes out on http://www.AmericanParchment.com that the President of Mexico is telling everyone to stay home. When I looked at the site I didn't see a link but said it was a developing story. Interesting though. If the President of Mexico tells everyone to stay home, that would mean less people should be going across the boarder by walking, flying, or driving, right. So in his own efforts, he has tried to close the border. Something our administration wasn't even willing to do. How can they say it would be ineffective. If you had a cold wouldn't you try every way to keep from getting sick, like taking Zicam, Cold-Ease, drinking a lot of water, etc. Wouldn't closing the border and/or allowing only American Citizens to cross the border after a thorough check help cut down on the possibility of keeping the cold or spreading it to others???

    • NancyNurse says:

Not when it is spreading among us here. He won't have the resources to close the borders. If this thing packs a punch, he might be putting down riots outside our ER facilities and people clamoring for tamiflu and immunizations when they are made available. We are seeing the very beginning of this thing. We have about a year and a half left to go on it.

    • beckgether says:

Afterall this is a crisis, shame to let it go to waste.

  56. Jerseygal says:

The very name (common one, that is) of this strain has provided the WH with a distraction of huge proportions. What better to distract folks that a flu with an animal name? When it's all over with the statistics will likely indicate that we should have been more concerned with the normal seasonal flu strains than this one.

While this, and the photo op/fly over, and the SpecterDefector stunt are taking up our time and our thoughts, they pass the budget. Another point for the master of distraction.

    • fastfacts says:

Interestingly enough, I thought the PC world was back a few years ago, around Clinton's era but seriously it is scary what is going on in his administration, especially when it comes to homeland security. It is almost as if he thinks he can make the extremists happy by changing a few words. Let us look at a few: Swine Flu… Mexican Flu… H1N1, Terrorist's Attacks… Man-Made Disasters, and I just read another one. Napolitano just apologized for saying something about "surveillance." I can't remember what she is calling it now, another thing I read on http://www.americanparchment.com, I think yesterday. This is getting ridiculous.

    • NancyNurse says:

I hope you are right, but I think you may be wrong about the flu being minor and garden variety. The stats don't lie. right now they are showing about a 6% mortality rate and that is double what it should be in Mexico. This thing has just begun…….And actually, because of this flu, Obama may be FORCED to allow a private provider system for a while longer. Right now, no matter what he has no system in place to provide care for millions of people without the private sector's involvement. Furthermore, stats from regions of the world that are under socialism will probably bear out that their system might be better at caring for communicable disease than a private cares system, but it sure is not as good as ours in taking care of chronic disease or the diseases of aging, which is what most Americans do die from. The key will be during this outbreak is to see rises in mortality and morbidity rates in England, Sweden, France compared with the mortality rates for this time last year in communicable diseases and chronic diseases/accidents, etc. I predict that the socialized med places will show better M&M rates for the flu than ours here and in Mexico, but a much worse ability to care for the other 'usual' problems that will also continue. And of course, in the hard core Communist nations, like in China, Cuba, etc. we will not EVER know how many have been affected or died. If anything, Obama might be cursing this. Not because he has to 'manage' another world event, but because this might just derail his attempt to take over yet another industry.

This Tuesday May 5th is Cinco De Mayo, keep you children home from school that day to protest our Governments refusal to protect Texans by not restricting travel across our southern border. Do not participate in any Cinco De Mayo celebrations, including eating out. Governor Perry has declared a state of emergency in Texas because of the swine flu and many public events have been cancelled, so how do we know our kids a safe in their daily public event of attending school?? If school districts a closing down then why are we not restricting entrance into Texas to limit the amount of new cases of the swine flu?

In addition to the potential deaths how much is this going to cost the taxpayers of Texas for the free medical care we will be providing to citizens of Mexico because they will run over the border and they will receive the best medical care we can provide for free. It is time to wake up, stop whining and bitchin, and call the Governors office and demand he immediately restrict traffic into Texas from Mexico. Not close the border, but reduce the traffic across the established crossing areas and eliminate as much as possible the illegal entry through the rest of the border. The numbers are on http://www.TheVoiceofTexas.com, it is time to shut up or take action.

It is time for the tea party organizers to get on this issue and encourage people to call Perry, they should post it on their web site and email everyone. This is a chance for them to show whatever political power they have or time for them to admit it is nothing more then a few days of protest.

    • NancyNurse says:

Not communicable. Those are chronic conditions. Try alcoholism, addictions, mental health conditions etc. Those things on the map are things spread from person to person. It is produced several times a year and is not overtly political (although politicians might use stats from it to persuade folks to do whatever is in their bag of tricks). Every time you go to your doctor's office and have one of the conditions on the map, you are counted and have been since they started keep track of these things. But this is just a snap shot and has no meaning unless you compare it to another snapshot (another year) and note the statistical differences. The statistical tests do not lie and cannot be manipulated even by master politicians. These maps help our health services to know where to put the supplies and care needed for any possible 'big' problem. And right now, I guarantee you, the CDC and our health system is scrambling the fighter jets and all out resources. I am surprised no one has been knocking on my door telling me where to report to work.

Not sure how to think about it jwjcc. But if you look at the reported cholera cases for Zimbabwe, for example, the map only shows a handful, yet we know what happened in that country in the past six months to a year. So contrast that with the reported number of H1n1 cases. See anything? Which then raises others' questions about is this "just a flu," or is it as potentially devastating as if it were a pandemic cholera outbreak?

I do agree with those who have noted that we are obsessing (in different words) about the swine flu, when there is still so much of significance going on. But the significance to this group of like-minded individuals is that US policies in responding to a pandemic are as relevant as other national defence and economic policies.

We need to be focused in many directions at once. We have already been gang raped by this administration and they have told us in their own words that they will let no crisis go to waste.

First of all, I would like to thank you up front for following Obama and the Administrations lead on referring to the "Swine Flu" as "H1n1". That in itself if very telling. They fact is that many strains of the flu contain H1n1, so this reference is truly misleading.

Second, understanding that PC is of the utmost importance to you, re-read my message and the context in which the part about the Mexican child was written. I will not insult your intelligence by explaining it to you, I'm sure that you eventually will be able to figure it out. And no I did not mean to imply that, but obviously, you did.

And third, a flu is "just a flu". Right now it looks like it is not killing a lot of people and medication is available. SO where do you get your data that "potentially hundreds of thousands of deaths" could occur in a year from this thing? I would love to know…

Woah there! I apologise for putting words into your mouth that you did not say! And I forgive you for your direct, mistaken implications regarding my own beliefs and intentions. If you read other posts that I have made, I think you will see that I have no ulterior motive than to keep my feet on the ground, be useful to my community, stay informed, and attempt to not be fooled by deceivers, liars and cheats.

I have merely extrapolated from numerous articles and reports over the years. None of these can be pinpoint accurate. Nobody really knows what we're dealing with yet. Since the H1n1 is not a regular flu but a mutation more closely related to the 1918 flu than a regular flu (a very unscientific paraphrase) one extrapolation comes from that. I did not use anything but an arbitrary figure for illustration.

One report today said that a Mexican official "thinks" that the spread may have slowed down from the rate a week ago. That would be great news. These sorts of anecdotal stories are all I have to go on in making my own deductions. If there is something you know that I don't, please feel free to educate.

  77. pandabeads says:

I just said not to close the boarder.  Look I have a bachelor’s degree in science from UC Davis.  The virus has already spread and there is little you can do other than not go out in public if sick and get the vaccination that shortens the life span of this virus.  Virus infections are funny little nonliving anomalies that spread and then become extinct by running out of hosts.  But once it is in a host it spreads.  If this was a real pandemic I would agree.   This is not a pandemic by any standards.  Mexican citizens are dying because of their substandard care and hygienic methods. So closing the boarder would not stop the virus from spreading.  They have tried this in the past with little efficacy. So it won’t help but only make Americans feel better. So if you want it for that reason then that is fine but it would be an effort that would cost more than getting any benefit from.  So I respectfully dis agree.  Look HIV pandemic,  Avian flu pandemic, influenza pandemic,  bubonic plague pandemic (perfect example of why containment never works. Read the history)  leprosy endemic (another example of why containment did not work) So in my opinion the press is great at spreading  fear with little substance.  The child that died was from Mexico city.   The cat is out of the bag and there is little you can do to keep it from spreading other than use hygienic methods to contain it and if sick stay home and get medical attention to obtain a vaccine to shorten the virus’s life cycle.  This itself with stop it from spreading.  And if a Mexican family came to America looking for care for their little 2 year old would you turn them away and let them die?  Just seems cold to me.

  78. KWilliams says:

Ah yes you are right Panda , we should allow all the sick Mexicans up here and give them free medical care . It is great to have a big heart but there comes a point where you have to look after your own and their safety. Once again I said closing the border wont stop it but will slow it down to where it could be more manageable for our health care system and our communities.

  79. TJwasright says:

I totally disagree with you that containment won't work. By your own admission viruses are nonliving anomalies which become extinct by running out of hosts. If you have 10 people spreading the virus, they will infect others-but not nearly as many others as 10,000 people would infect (remember arithmetic vs. exponential from geometry?) and therefore it wouldn't take as long for the virus to become extinct. And I've got news for you, while I would certainly sympathize with ANY family no matter where they are from who lose a little 2 year old why should I needlessly risk my own family's health just because the government wants to be politically correct? And by the way you might be interested to know that a doctor in Texas is telling his patients that the word the medical community is getting from the CDC and other government health care agencies is different from the word they are putting out to the public. According to this doctor the information they are being given privately is that this flu is far worse than is being reported. It has a 4-5 times higher "clinical attack rate" than a typical flu does and there are approximately 10-25 times more actual cases than have been reported because there is a 3 day lag time for the CDC to confirm each case. They have advised President Obama to declare an emergency within 72-96 hours. We won't know whether for a while whether he takes their advice or not.

  80. pandabeads says:

I was not saying to help all of the Mexicans.  You are singing to the choir it is just if it was me having to turn away a 2 year old as a mother with a two year old I could not turn them away.  You are right about safety and helping American citizens, however the virus has already spread to most states so the damage is done and closing the boarder would do little to help contain it now. That is all I was saying.  I think we should close the boarders for other reasons and feel that our government has turn its back on the citizens of America and wants to help illegal aliens for their own political agenda and they are not upholding public safety.  But with a virus it is hard to contain because it has been done before and it has never worked. In fact most of the people we contracted it from were American citizens coming from Mexico including Obama and his administration.  So if you want to contain him that would be ok with me.

  81. TJwasright says:

By the way, my daughter who is in her final semester of college as a biology graduate just informed that viruses don't go extinct. The scientists who died after excavating King Tut's tomb in the 1920's died from contracting a virus that had been in the tomb for several thousand years.

  82. pandabeads says:

That is not at all what I meant. I was referring to the virus becoming dormant.  In fact my son who is in college was asking me about virus’s and how they mutate. So don’t try to make me feel stupid.  I am not.  I have had many genetics classes,  microbiology, physiology, anatomy 1 full year each (was planning to go to medical school but ended up with a master’s in psychology).  Organic chemistry, nutrition, embryonic nutrition, chemistry,  and more.  So I did not mean extinct.  I meant dormant.  Virus’s become dormant.   Viruses are not living and don’t become extinct. So sorry for the mistake in wording. But that is not what I meant.  But the CDC and the government won’t close the boarder because the virus has spread to most states anyway and it would do little good at this point.  Besides historically most containments don’t work unless exercised early by the CDC.  And it has already spread to thousands of people.  So stop trying to make me feel stupid when I am not.  I did not mean extinct.  I meant dormant.  I just told my son that.  If you can tell me how a virus works in the body then stop making me feel stupid.  You sound like a progressive attack when I don’t agree with you.    You are parsing words.

  83. pandabeads says:

Most influenza viral infection are contracted by your hands. Yes airborne too but that is why they tell you to wash your hands frequently. It decreases the likelihood of infection and the spread of the disease. So yes it is airborne but washing your hands are the best defense from contraction. And covering you mouth when coughing.

  84. TJwasright says:

You didn't use the word dormant, you used the word extinct. You may have slipped up but with your training in science you should know just how important substituting a word like "dormant" with "extinct" is. As of this afternoon there are only 12 states out of 50 that have confirmed cases. And no, I wasn't implying you are stupid; I was just pointing out that you were spreading inaccurate information to people who otherwise wouldn't know better. I lived for 17 years in Washington DC and frankly don't have much patience when people allow their compassion to over-ride their common sense. On 9/11 the media attention was directed for the most part on New York and the twin towers (and rightly so) but many people in this country are unfamiliar with the horrific burns suffered by many of the personnel who were in the Pentagon or were first responders. Some of the firemen are still in mental hospitals from the ptsd they continue to suffer. Having also worked side by side with colleagues whose family members rode the plane into the Pentagon, I'm just a little touchy when people seem to place the welfare of people in other countries above those in our own country. Perhaps that is not what you meant and I don't mean to sound be-littling. I am also more than a little miffed that the present administration fails to understand that the first and foremost duty of the office of the president is to protect the people. As I said before, I have a lot of compassion for anyone who loses a child or other loved one to this flu. But I refuse to allow my compassion to over-ride what common-sense says is the wiser thing to do. And for the record, I am life-long conservative Independent.

  85. pandabeads says:

You definitely have issues that have nothing to do with me.  I am not a epidemiologist and was not acting as an expert. But do have a science background and feel people are in panic over this that is not a pandemic.  More people die from food poisoning than this swine flu.  So closing boarders only adds to the hysteria when there has not been one death in America yet other than the 2 year old that was from Mexico City.  I  am sorry you are angry with me but feel that you are jumping all over me about one word.  I even explained to my son today who asked me about viral infection and what happens when they are not contracted and I told him they become dormant until the next exposure.  They also mutate because they have a high fecundity, as a way to find news hosts.  This what is so interesting to the CDC.  But it is very common. That is why you can’t cure viral infections.  You can only shorten their proliferation in the body buy suppression.  Anyway.  You don’t know me from atom and I had not sleep last night because I have a 2 year old so I was tired. But you don’t care and you are one of those rip someone a new one over parsing of words. I really don’t know why you chose me to attack but it is obvious you are upset over 911. I was in no way putting the citizens of Mexico above others by stating that closing the boarders would not be efficacious at this time.  It would not because it has already spread worldwide. So containment will do little at this point and that is why the government won’t consider it.  But I do think the boarders should be closed anyway just not for this reason.  If we would have closed the boarders the spread would may have been limited but I doubt it most of the cases came from New York due to travelers coming back from vacation.  So I am sorry you are angry but the word extinction and dormant have little to do with why you are angry. People even doctors make mistakes.   And there are more than 12 states.  I saw it today.  And I am just for your information I am a conservative as well.  I don’t know how you could turn away a family with a 2 year old who is dying.  But that is what makes America unique. We all have different opinions.

  86. Tell me, why should I be scared? I'm healthy, I'm fit…why should I be scared?

  87. Greenland!
Its got geothermal power so you won't get cold, and I do believe you can get Fox News and FBC on satellite there. And the people are pretty nice.

  88. NancyNurse says:

Because microbes don't care too much about your history and your level of fitness—all it takes is an infected source and a susceptible host within close proximity. All it takes is touching viral spew (a fomite, look it up) and you putting that hand near a mucous membrane—your nose, eyes, mouth. But now that the Mexican mortality numbers may have been fudged, You have my permission not to be scared. Hopefully this flu will not mutate to something else as it does spread. We are in the herald wave, so who knows. I will still be taking an innoculation when they get one.

  89. I wasn't looking for your permission

Seriously, this just hype. Until it mutates and starts killing millions (not thousands) then I'll be scared. But until then I'll just pray

  90. alluh won't answer your prayers.

  91. DebFlores says:

I've heard it's beautiful, too. I just re-checked the map, and it looks to be germ-free, and hopefully free of the deadly archeobacteria cowlord discovered in Antartica!

  92. Hobbes says:

Oh, and that comment which was reviewed didn't show up until yesterday.
