How long before some Alex Jones following, infowars nut job starts accusing the government of using Air Force one to spray the virus onto New York and that the photo-op explanation was merely a ruse? I bet it won't be much longer. I am not afraid of this flu at all. In fact, I'm laughing about it more and more every day. I think this is just one more distraction being used to corral us into thinking we 'need' socialized medicine. More people die from swimming pool accidents every year in this county than have gotten sick world wide from this virus! Talk about panic and hype! Fear and boredom are tools used most frequently by the devil himself.

If you use the government's logic, there is no reason to stay home from work or school because you have already infected your co-workers and other students. Staying home is like "closing the barn door after the horse gets out". If KWilliams is correct, maybe that's why they aren't closing the borders – so the Mexican people can get over here to get our meds. Whatever, our government is asking us to "contain" the flu but our government isn't doing anything to "contain" the flu. This is not about illegal immigration. They probably don't cross at the legal areas anyway. It's about Americans and Mexicans crossing back and forth every day for shopping, work etc… People that are infected are coming in and people are going over getting infected and returning. They have already said it's a 6-7 day incubation period so you can't tell if individuals are infected or not.

Here is what I can't figure out, and maybe KWilliams has the answer. Napalitano and the President says there is no need to close the borders because the flu is already here in the U.S. I heard Napalitano state, no need to close the borders now because "people could be crossing right now that are infected." Also, she and the President has said it is like closing the barn after the horse gets out and there is a 6-7 day incubation period. Then they say "we" should contain it. How? By washing hands, see a dr. if you get ill, don't go to work or school and close the schools if the flu breaks out. REALLY? cont.

Today member of CDC was talking about border closure and replied with the Standard Obama line it is too late. He said they at the CDC had made the decision to let it come across then attack the virus as they find it in the communities and try to contain it at the local levels???? Now that one made alot of sense didn't it. The first response by the CDC about school closures was they wanted as few schools to close as possible because it was a effective way to monitor the outbreak in the U.S. . In other words our children are being used as test strips to see what communities are being infected and how widespread it is. So far as closing the border goes here is what I do not understand.
They knew a week ago that this virus was wide spread in Mexico. Yet they allowed over 60-70 thousand people to move across the border a day on border crossings, They allowed more than 60 thousand people to fly into Mexico from the US every day. Now in my humble opinion this flu is probably no more deadly than the regular flu. But, you must realize the infection ratio on this one is going to be outrageous because it is highly contagious and no one has been vaccinated for it. Plus it does hit younger healthier people harder than a normal flu so you will see a bit of a higher mortality rate. So for example if the mortality rate is just 1 percent. and 40 percent of U.S. citizens catch it. Then you are looking at 1.2 million deaths here in the United States. But that death rate will be five to ten times that in undeveloped countries. Now lets look at the economics. Already you have half the world banning meat products from us. Then you have a complete travel ban from just about every nation in the world on Mexico city. Imagine when that travel ban is placed on us. Then you have other coming side effects. You will soon see a closure of all public venues and eventually Food service industry. You will soon see employees staying home in quarantine to take care of family members or themselves. You see cities such as New York under complete shut down for days if not even weeks. Economically speaking I do not see how we will survive this one. Unemployment alone in many states is almost bankrupt. Imagine what the claims will be. Imagine what the medical claims will be on our insurance companies. The hospital's alone will be swamped. Uninsured and insured both will flood the system. All during a period of time when we have a avid socialist as a president. Imagine what our New country will look like after we emerge from all this. Should they have shut down the borders. You bet. It will at the very least slow the spread and make it more manageable for our health care system. I hate to paint doom and gloom but I am looking at worst case possible. Frankly mate I think the future just got a lot more scarier. Good luck.

It may be bad (especially for the ones that are sick or dying, but other posts I have read are correct. More people die from swimming pool accidents and probably nail fungus than they do from swine flu. Follow sensible hygiene habits, like not smoking cigarrette butts you find on the ground, and you'll be okay.

The media, along with our government (never let a crisis go to waste) are spreading panic faster than they are spreading our wealth! This is the FLU. Every year 36,000 americans die from it, mostly the young and old, and people who are in generally poor health. Do we ever hear about those deaths? NO, we don't. They like to remind us of the 1918 Spanish flu, which was a very nasty strain of influenza. However, at that time in history medicine was still very poor. We had many deadly outbreaks in the late 19th & early 20th century. WE had a Cholera epidemic from 1910-1911, we had Small Pox throughout the 19th century, we had Typhoid in 1906…… we pulled through just fine. My point is, modern medicine has advanced astronomically since then, people have running water in their homes to wash with, People are healthier these days which iswhy we live longer than ever before. The doctor is only a phone call away. So don't let the media and the government statements make you panic.

After clicking on the map tabs, there are a few cases in Spain, Bogota and other countries, whose citizens had visited Mexico. I would like to know if these folks visited Mexico before or AFTER Hillary Clinton and Obama's visit there. Clinton visited first a couple weeks prior to Obama but both were there with many agents in tow. Are any of them ill, have they or were they vaccinated. The odds of this flu manifesting from multiple/spearate flu strains means a perfect storm occured, unless it was man made in a lab and unsuspectantly released on the Mexican population, which would and has easily spread to the United States. Travelers to Mexico would then and have carried the strain to multiple countries. An easily manipulated pan-demic. My question is what bills are being voted on while we're all busy keeping tabs on it and could this be the crisis that Biden said Obama would face and we might not agree with his actions, but he would be doing the right thing. (Of course it would be a first).
Hey friends. Time for a little perspective. The second post I ever made to the 912Project.com concerned the topic of the irradiation of food and people were quite freaked out about the topic at the time. That was FIVE weeks ago. FIVE. FIVE weeks ago. That post follows:
I am an industrial radiographer with extensive training in the safe handling and use of radioactive materials such as Ir-192 and Co-60. I work with these materials daily. The first thing a person should understand is the difference between being exposed to radiation and actually being contaminated with radioactive material. They are two completely different things. If you are exposed to the radiation of a radioactive material, once you remove that material, there is no longer any radioactivity present. This is what they do with food. However, if you actually have the radioactive material present on your skin, clothes, or if you ingest it somehow, or if your environment is contaminated with radioactive material, that's a problem.
I find this topic pretty funny actually and here is why: How many of you own microwave ovens? HELLO! Microwave RADIATION! Most of you probably NUKE your food on a daily basis. It's a different type of radiation but it is still radiation. Why do you think the instructions on microwaveable foods always tell you to let the food stand for a few minutes in the microwave oven? It's to allow the radioactivity to stop.
Also, let's talk about Ultra Violet rays….HELLO again! Ultra Violet radiation…hhmmm. Our food can't grow with out sunlight. Sunlight contains UV rays or UV RADIATION. Again I know, a different type of radiation, but radiation just the same. Do you people know that when you get a sun burn, it is a form of radiation burn? Let me illustrate this. As a trained radiographer, I know that if I accidentally expose myself to an excessive dose of radiation from a source such as Ir-192 very close to my body, the radiation burns will not show up for hours or possibly even days depending on the dose received. Sound familiar? When you get a sun burn, you may not feel the full effects of it for hours or maybe even until the next day. That is why most people get sunburns in the first place, they don't realize they are being burned until it is too late.
Anyone reading this ever heard of X-ray? Again, a form of radiation used daily by humans. What? People being irradiated by radiologists in our hospitals and clinics??

This whole thread is ridiculous. This is one of the things that hacks me off about the left. The left has everyone so freaked out about radiation and nuclear power that we can't build nuclear power plants. Do some research and you will discover that thousands have been killed throughout the history of coal mining and very few have been killed or have died from nuclear power in the United States. I bet many of you can't remember the last time someone was harmed by nuclear power in the United States. I challenge all of you to invest some time to learn more about nuclear power and radiation. There was only ONE phone in the control room of the reactor and someone was on it constantly so no one could call into the control room. Humbug! I think this is a whole bunch of malarkey on a slow news week. The folks that are dying are probably in the slums. The numbers keep swinging back and forth. I'm definately not buying much of what the WHO says and not the French and the rest of the EU quaking in their knickers. This stinks, and it stinks of that look over here misdirection. p.s. did anyone else hear a report on CNN that had some virus stolen from a military base on April 12th. The story was pulled and never reported again. Funny how right after the virus (later stated as flu) was missing, the outbreak starts. Hmmmmmm.

Ok all, I did some investigating…..info hot off the presses from CDC, WHO and Medline. concerning the 1976 vaccination. 40 million of us got that shot in '76 (about 24% of the US Population). There was one death and 500 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). That gives a rate of .0000125 chance of getting sick– from the vaccine in '76. Only 25 cases were considered 'serious' of GBS. The current death rate in mexico is 2,500 infected (confirmed) and 159 deaths. That give a MORTALITY RATE of 0.06 chance of dying from this flu if you infected from the same bug and treated the same way. So if I have done the math right and they can get that vaccine prepared ASAP, you can see which one provides the best odds. THE VACCINE! Now do the math for yourself and make your own decisions. But again, this chick will not be messing around.

According to a healthcare worker in a Denver hospital, it's here in Colorado, just not confirmed yet.
Here is another little fact that is not being shared by the media or govt. As the migrant camps are being populated many of the new arrivals are showing up at the free clinics for health care with flu like symptoms. They are showing up with no shoes and sometimes no shirts so these workers are probably not carrying green cards. Is this going to be another "Like you, I'm just finding out by watching the news" obama moments?
I think it's called "Evolution". It can happen randomly, and at any point in time. It just so happens that a virus has more potential to spontaniously evolve than a normal organism. Which makes it far more likely to gain the ability to attack multiple hosts from different species, and then evolve more abilities into it.
Ironically, the democrats (PARTY, not the people, I have so say this as I was verbally attacked on my college due to a mixup) like the darwinism theory more than the creationism theory. But they don't want to see anything fail or go extinct. Which is funny, because then you are STOPPING evolution, and actually harming the environment more (look at the economy as an easy example. There is also an island that had something like that happen with rabbits and a virus).
It sounds to me like the pigs are getting back at us for using pig parts in humans. We are testing on pigs and experimenting on pigs and this is their way of paying us back. Get real it's the flue and the flue can kill ya, so take the necessary precautions and stay away from sick people and wash your hands with soap. Watch your kids close and keep them out of school if they are sick.
I am already there with that advice. Have enough to last about a year, but less if my kids come home to roost. Then all things might change. No one is asking you to trust anything but your own eyes and ears here, not tabloid journalism or msm hype. I don't trust Obama, but I do trust the CDC. They are disease's equivalent of our military. They won't lie because their own lives are on the line. Keep tuned to what they are saying. And yes, I have considered that someone had anulteriormotive to 'cause' this disease–might have been some sort of assassination attempt, but I am sure we will never know. I cantellyou that when I worked with the public health services, we knew that there are a lot of bad bugs out there—and that at any time a flu strain could mutate. They even predicted it to be h1N1 back when our politicians had some integrity and did put America first. Just stay tuned, as I know you are and be ready……be VERY ready!
Hmmm maybe this flu was intentionally let go so the government could come out and say no organized gatherings to stop the flu, but in reality its to stop the T-Party's. Hmm does this sound paranoid? And why are we not closing the southern border? Yes it would mean more damage to the economy but it seems to me that the first and foremost obligation of the president is to protect the people.

Democrats (the party, not the people) tend to love immigrants, illegal or not. They see them as a potentially easy group for free votes. Which is probably true, but for that reason, they will continue to leave the border open.
But I'd expect to see a massive shutdown of the border once a bunch of deaths hit on the borders of California and Texas. Once that happens, it won't be the Federal Government, but the local and state government that quickly moves to lock everything down. Then expect to see a massive overrun of people from south the border try to quickly get here while there is still time. I'm talking HUGE amounts of people, in the hundreds of thousands, maybe a few million…

Well take it for what its worth, I am not waiting on Tamiflu as there may not be enough around if I get sick so I am doing the following: storing elderberry syrup, Vit D, Vit B12 liquid and selinium. I will hold these in reserves in the event my family comes down with the illness. I will also take the B12 and put it under my tongue for thirty seconds. I am homeopathic so my family and I will use this. I still wonder if this was an attack of some kind as I believe they have studied this virus from the past an now they attribute this virus as combination bird flu, swine and ordinary flu combined, so it sounds like someone has been in the terrorist kitchen cooking up something.

A homeopathic approach is terrific, but unless someone has spent the time to become informed about the cause/effect and dosages that are safe, there can be unintended problems. Not everyone is going to be able to do for themselves safely.
As for the origins of this particular strain, I think it's a bit early to have declared an origin. Speculation doesn't generally help in a crisis and usually does more harm than good. We need to encourage people to study and cross check facts as a first course of action; with politics and health issues.
You are right have to take it in the proper proportions. I have been a cancer survivor now for twenty years and I chose macrobiotic over chemotherapy and radiation. I will chose homeopathic over drugs created by manufacturing companies that sent many people in the 70's to their deaths and paralyzed.

Most of Mexico is infected now. This is why you are seeing a rapid spread from so many provinces of Mexico. The death toll and the infection ratios are skewed. These numbers are only confirmed cases from labs. But like in the U.S. For every case that test positive there are ten that are sick that they are not bothering to test because it would over flow the labs.
Mexico city — What they have not told you all supplies in Mexico City have been wiped out. Food and water in most stores cannot be found. A city of 20 million people is now on the verge of mass chaos. Meanwhile Mexican nationals are buying supplies in the states to send down. Which is wiping out supplies of Tamiflu which will not be available for the American public when it goes full blown. I have read from many that there is little to worry about and frankly I truly hope you are correct. But, you must realize that when they throw out that number of normal flu cases every year they forget to mention that a majority of the population is vaccinated against that flu. No one and I repeat no one is vaccinated against this flu.
I was checking out the BBC blogs a couple days ago. The blogs from Mexico were saying the same thing you posted. One Mexican M.D. said he was confused as to why the media was not putting out more realistic numbers and truths. He also said a colleague and nurse had been given the vaccine but only to die. He had also said it was pretty dire situation.
Notice if you search for independent videos from Mexico outside the Normal news agencies you can barely find anything. You have a city of 20 million people many of whom speak English. How many posts on google video would you see.
From where did you get this information? To say most of Mexico is infected is pretty wild. Not saying it's not true, I would just like to see the information.
Actually mate just follow the cases from the US and where they have contracted it from. The cases have been from just about every province in Mexico. Plus see the reporters reports including CNN. Entire towns have been sick:(

Houston Reporting: This sanctuary city has at least 1,000,000 (ONE MILLION) ILLEGALS that don't know how to wash their hands or take a bath. Took a friend to an emergency room 2 years ago & we were the only Gringos out of maybe 50-75 people. We paid – nobody else had insurance. DON'T go near an emergency room in Texas – illegals everywhere.
Look closely at the map. I don't see trails of people traveling on the ground. From the dispersion of the clusters, I suspect that the initially infected groups may traveled by plane.
On that basis, then you would see case numbers increase adjacent to those clusters.
Because people are able to travel so far, so fast in comparison to the 1918 flu pandemic, the containment mechanisms are not quite the same.
Getting people to NOT TRAVEL (or go into crowded areas) if they are sick is a more effective strategy now. They may get o travel restrictions, but a physical border closing may not help very much.
I lived in Texas for 13 years, and if there is one thing I learned there is that you folks are big enough to defend the border without Uncle Sam's help. Pick up a gun and stand a post; and if you need help, call. I'll come with my guns and we'll defend this nation even if the D.C. idiots won't.
I've been watching all news organinzations very closely and no one has asked any of the "experts": the question I want answered….."What are the odds that a swine influenza will combine with avian and human influenza naturally?" Sorry, I hate consipiracies, but this thing stinks to high heaven. Is this strain engineered? Why isn't anyone asking? Are we under a bio terroristic attack? The only ones asking are conspiracy web sites and I want to hear the answer from a legit source.

Contaminated animal feeds is a common method for one species to become infected with a disease that originated in another species. Good feed, good stock and good fences has always been the best way to raise healthy livestock. As much as people laughed about odor and manure management when it came to government spending, these are real topics of concern for all of us. Just because you don't live or work in the barn doesn't mean it's not important.
Any time you work in a farm, there is always the risk/concern to take care of cuts, scrapes and to pay attention to who is & isn't sick working with the animals. On some farms, indoor plumbing arrives in barns first to make sure that people leaving to go back to the house weren't taking contaminants into the house. Diseases can and do combine when different species are together and sick or injured at the same time. Tracking down absolute sources takes the cooperation of people doctors, veterinarians, biologists and public health professionals to define the origins and then formulate process that handle containment and treatments.
Right now, I'm praying that the folks who can help are not being impeded by politics.

Years ago I used to be proud to be a Californian. We had sunshine, clean surf, deep snow, a country first attitude and Reagan. Now we have a state with 2 languages, curly lightbulbs, air you can see, unleaded fuel, a decade without a balanced budget, 9 circuit court of appeals, 55 electoral votes for the libs and Sean Penn. At this point, swine influenza seems to be the least of my concerns, and I dont want get too excited yet. I'll withhold my excitement pending the infestation of Hollywood!

You are right. We are in dire need of a congressional delegation for Mexico to make sure they are taking the proper steps to treat their people. And check out the health care system there. Maybe we should send them a couple billion to help out. We are printing out enough money. Our great grand children can afford it.

We have been waiting for an outbreak of this for sometime. But there might be a political connection. Hopefully there is no evidence of bio-terrorism by either the right or left extremists internally or our many enemies abroad. The people of Mexico might just be paying a big price for their hospitality toward Obama. They surely don't need this crisis. And neither does the rest of the world. That said, we have to use logic and reason about these matters and try not to speculate and spread rumors.
We are going to have some bad things happen as a result of this, and I already see some fallout here. People are staying home—avoiding each other. Which is understandable, but we must keep working and 'keeping on' too. The cost to our economy will be enormous and right now, with the ridiculous spending that has been thrown onto the table, we have little left in the piggy bank.
We need to mobilize information quickly (as soon as it is available) and allow people as much time as possible to decide their own course of action.
And don't forget there are still other viruses out there, rhino, etc. So don't start getting too worried about every cough or sniffle. Don't overwhelm the system with minor health problems. Use common sense.

The situation in Mexico is another indictment that nationalized healthcare doesn't work. People in Mexico are not getting the basic healthcare they need to deal with this flu and that is the reason there have been so many deaths there. There are going to be many people here with real and imagined symptoms but it no reason to panic. Common sense and basic hygiene will help avoid getting it. We have medications to deal with it here. What we need to do is close the border if this continues to grow in numbers and limit or halt all travel to Mexico.
But we have to ask what 'common sense' and hygiene measures work? Taking a bath? Wearing a filthy paper mask for two weeks on end? No, I can guarantee that won't work. Gloves? Maybe. HEPA mask? Better. Staying away from each other? Probably impossible for very long. special air filtration systems? Maybe—-use 'em if you got 'em. Keep tuned to the CDC—there info is not as politically tainted as that coming from the WH.
Use bleach to clean bathroom and kitchen surfaces in your home often; wash your hands often–especially immediately after touching something someone else has touched. Carry those little disinfectant wipes with you. Avoid tight enclosed spaces as much as possible–elevators, movies or plays, sports arenas, concerts, cover your mouth when you cough—if sick, keep away from others as much as possible and wash your own hands a great deal. Throw tissues where they belong. If sick, call the doctor and ask for instructions about being seen— during a couple viral outbreaks when I worked in ambulatory care, we went out to the car to check people rather than having them come inside. Make use of drive up windows. Eat at home as much as possible. Dress, eat and drink appropriately. Get enough sleep and rest. Avoid stress. Don't over-do exercise but do keep moving around. Get fresh air, but away from others. Walking outdoors would be ok just try to maintain about 6 feet of distance between you and others. In worship services, instead of shaking hands or passing the peace or hugging, perhaps offering a gesture like a thumbs up or peace sign would be better for those a little phobic. We will get through this and be better for it. It just takes some good communication and a little smart action. In the next few days, we will know way more. Rest assured there are good, competent people working on this night and day and we will get the fruit of their best efforts. Thanks to all those caring for sick people today. You are the great example of true courage on the front lines of this fight. Another example of the best of the best!
They have no national health care system. They have no health care system available to the poor. That's one of the reasons why they come here.

Residents in certain towns in Connecticut received phone calls warning them of potential cases in they're towns. Greenwich, Stamford, Newtown, Southbury and Danbury are the only ones that I know of for sure. This isn't nearly as bad as the Gov't is hyping it up to be. People are dying in Mexico because of the poor health care system they have and the Obama administration is using this whole thing to prop up socialized medicine. Don't fall for it!
How do you know what people in Mexico are dying from? That is only your opinion. Mexico does not have a true nationalized health care system–just a very poor one, full of problems. Cuba has nationalized health care. Watch what happens to them!
Cuba is basically a very big island and they have already cut off flights to and from Mexico. They are communist and can shut down whenever and whatvever they want.

I am one of those who thinks this Flu scare is being hyped.

I don't. And I am a true 9-12er. I have no political motives to believe what I do. This is going to be very, very bad I think. I base my opinion on the comparisons between the 1918 flu pandemic and this one—it is remarkably similar. Same patterns of onset, incubation, effected ages, spread. What we do not know are the demographics of those who've died in Mexico—do they have other conditions making them weaker to begin with? Did they seek medical care at all? If so, how were they treated? What was the general course of the illness from onset to death. Is there a pattern. How close were these cases geographically—could there be a sub-set or a strong virulence going on in Mexico? How old were these folks who died? Have any received flu vaccine before? If so, when?How are the other immediate family/friends/co-workers/contacts? Any idea where the source case can be traced to? These are the kinds of questions WHO will be asking.
I agree Nancy this is so parallel to 1918 it bothers me. The true test will be in the fall if this flu erupts again we can count on another pandemic. In the US in 1918 over 650,000 reported cased died but those are the one reported deaths. Even in little old Idaho people between 25 and 45 were dying and the old folks continued to live. This seems to be the same kind of flu today. Now the question is? Did someone intentionally release it?

According the WHO there are only 7 deaths from the flu.
I read that too, this morning. But now we are at WHO level 5. If this were an ordinary flu, it would not even be mentioned. Strange dontcha think? There must be a lot more that we dont know.

That is a good question. Hopefully it was not intentional but we will probably NEVER know. And yes, young/healthy/able bodied died of that flu. All I know is that 2 year olds don't usually die of flu. Thisanomalyis very troubling. Again, we will know more in the next few days. MOST flu deaths are in the very very young and very, very old. From what I know of the 1918 flu, many got so sick so suddenly, they couldn't even get to the doctor let alone a hospital. Our mobility today is both an asset and a liability. We can get to help quicker and easier, but the disease can infect way more people much more quickly, too.
We are always at war with this microscopic pathogens. Sometimes we lose a few battles, but so far, we as human beings have always won the war. Hopefully that will hold true.

Someone who claimed to work for the CDC was on the radio saying that they compair all flu strains to the Spainish flu of 1918. According to him, the swine flu was genetically engineered by China, and that China has been working on weaponizing a flu strain for over five years.
Now this could be a nut job making stuff up, or not. One fact is that China has been sending over tainted products to America for years. Lead based paints in toys and plastics, to poisionus drywall. Should our government issue a warning about the use of Chinese products?
I think it's odd that two vials of flu virus come up missing from a research facility in Maryland right before Obama takes a trip to Mexico.
