I guess I'm old fashion, I like the original, it was closer to the actual radio broadcast and the book.

It is the DUTY of elected officals to secure and ensure the safety of our country, our people and PREVENT a drain on any possible medical needs till the event is OVER,,and verifed,,,if any Mayor,Govenor, elected offical or Org such as ACLU will adopt and care for at thier expence,,,they must sign for the responcibility,,,The economy of the USA is BROKEN to the stand point of recent debts/loans as refered to in the Stim package,Bail out,,,budgets,,the taxpayers can ill afford 100s of BILLIONS of US Dollars to feed, cloth, shelter, medical attention of Mex nationals,,,

Would Mex do this to us,,,you bet,,,and they would ask for Texas back if we were hit with such a claimity,,,,,PROTECT our people, our country,Put troops on the border to stop the possible flood,it you wait,,and certain cheritable/or paid smugglers,,, groups smuggle illegals we may no longer enjoy the milder verison,,who knows what level this will go too,,,CLOSE THE BORDER,,,

  3. Dave48763 says:

I would very stronly suggest that our goverment place the national guard/or reg troops on the border with mex,,,,as it is only a matter of time that the ECONOMY collapses in that country ,to say the least a great influx of Mex citzens seeking safe harbor in the USA,,,as Mex was certianly NOT forth coming in advising our country of the out break,,,and with the rapid spead in the short time,,,it would be VERY prudent to at least SCREEN entry,,,for of course will come those who can afford trans,,,than on foot,,,claiming to be simple tourists,,,much of Mex economy comes from the AMERICAN dollar,,,and it will only be a short time before NATIONAL HEALTH CARE there will fail,,,

Swine Flu And Taking Advantage Of The Next Crisis: Will we now hear how Universal Health care is the answer?

How will Universal Health care be the answer?

We will be told that the data base to be used by hospitals will generate a data bank tracking the spread of the illness? Patients with the illness that visit a hospital will have their information entered into nationwide health computer system. The illness can be tracked through this computer system and outbreaks will be identified nationally. Sounds good right?
That will be one aspect of the Universal Health Care program that will be propagated to us. We will soon hear how only a program like universal health care could stop, track, and contain health hazards that threaten the country. Will this will be the selling point of universal health care? It could be the next Trojan Horse.
What they wont tell us is how Universal Health Care will have the Government make medical decisions based on cost benefit analysis. They wont tell us that universal health care will not do procedures that will out live the patients life expectancy. If you need a procedure and the procedure would last longer than your expected time to live than you would be denied that procedure. Also the program will not do newer, less proven, more expensive procedures even in life threatening situations when other procedures fail.
So will we hear Congress or the White house use scare tactics and tell us universal health care is the answer to outbreaks like swine flu? Is this the next crisis to take advantage of by passing controversial legislation? If the threat dies down and passes perhaps this will not happen.

What do you think the next crisis will be that the government says we must rush to solve?

    • you might be right there I was think of the oppressive farm bill my wife said health care this is great for them its two fold.they can kill two birds with this stone . I have got to give it to them this was a shrude move thye are smart than I gave them credit for being hell maybe three fold if it takes out some boomers it could get them off the hook for all the S.S. that is comming due .maybe 4 fold the can send the sick to the fema camps and get that started to. 5 fold the strong youn kids could start their public service taking care of the sick .

  5. swine flu sounds like they are trying to get suport for the farm bill house hr 875 and senate bill s425. so the can control the food and every body knows if you control the food you control the people. rember the clip Glenn showed from water world where the war lords where giving out canned ham and smokes .sorry I don't trust or belive anything. Washington is so full of crooks and dog wagging I dont trust them

  6. DarkestWish says:

I agree we have to take this to the next step and get better organized. Tho most of us don't like activest groups we must become one. Our local groups must work together to forum state groups which then must establish a national group. These groups must work together.

As my Grandfather used to say "If your not part of the solution, then your part of the problem." lets not be part of the problem, let us join together to be part of the solution.

Glenn I know you don't want to lead but I for one belive in you more then anyone. I know you can help us, so I am asking you Glenn Beck, well you help lead us?

    “UNITE OR DIE”

  7. Unite or Die
It is time to take the next step. We have started a movement with no clear action plan or leadership. We have become a series of factions:

    Local tea party groups
    State tea party groups
    National tea party groups
Google “912 Project” and you get 6,940,000 hits
    TheNational912Project.com/TheNational912Project.org
    Meetup.com 912 local groups
    Official 912 groups (Huh?)
    American Solutions

The Columbus, Georgia tea party and 912 groups have split. Michael Leahy is no longer associated with the National Tea Party. We need to put our country first.

I have the greatest respect for the 912 movement and the work that Glenn Beck has started. So where are we? I want one place to go that is organized to save our country that is offering tangible solutions. Mr. Beck, are you listening? We are READY for the next step. Please don’t let this movement die. Give us the next step or endorse one organization to lead us.

If you agree with me, please add a post here “UNITE OR DIE”.

    • I have received several responses concerning this post. I am not looking for a leader, I am looking for leadership and direction for all of the groups that have formed. We need to organize so that something can be accomplished other that posting messages on blogs and fighting over who is in control of random, small groups. This is not going to save this country. Unite these groups or watch them die.

As I am listening to Obama speak on swine flu, I realize ……. we are on our own. You can't fight a pandemic with campaign speeches. God help us all.

We all have to realize that these kind of things are predicted in the Bible. Unfortunately, it's only going to get worse and more often, that is my opinion. My only answer is we all better make sure our eternal insurance policy is up to date. I'm praying that everyone realizes GOD is still in control, and no matter how bad we hate to see our country, lives, and world turned upside down, we are going to come out on the other side better off. GOD is going to put us all through the refiners fire and burn away the chaff, and whatever is left will be useful for GOD and His purposes.

    Got some questions,,,,
When was the swine flu first reported,,,,

    Who reported it,,,,and to whom,,

Why was it that young people in the spring break were exposed, when the POTUS was in that counrty,,,

What is the time line from first reports to Mex goverment to anyone,,

Why are countries like Russia,,,etc,,,not affected at the levels of the USA,,,

What is the first connection to a human being ,who, where, when, why,,,,

When did the US goverment first know, and what steps did it take,,,

why is it that Calif,Texas,New York first show up,,,a normal infestation would be more localized near the border as the outbreak,,,

How many cases if any were illegal aliens first,,,,

What is the common point of infection ,or point of first contact that all had in common,,,

Yes,,,so many unanswered questions,,alot of unanswered questions,,,yet wondering why the goverment has not made any attempt to discover and report to us,,,

  10. Ratchell says:

because i have exposure to Mexicans in my laundromat I am planning to go to my local health department and keep my vitamin C handy. standard flu procedure. just a heads up.

however if you pay attention to Mexico, wouldnt this be the ideal time to CLOSE THE BORDERS?! o wait nobody here is dead yet.

! will probably be berated to no end for what I am about to say, but I will say it anyways. I believe we lost our way when our wife's and mothers to our children, put themselves above the needs of the child by taking a job that pays $350 a week, when they spend $150 of that on child care. The need to get out of the house has cost us not just one, but several generations. We need to get back to the belief that our children are more important than any job or need to get out of the house. If we can get back to America raising our own children, than the grip our govt has influencing them will be relinquished. We have lost our families, and the government is more than willing to substitute. There is a choice. Common sense. If it hurts, stop doing that which is painful.

    • Think back when I was growing up, I road horses, camped, hunted, worked gardens (not willingly) Helped my dad work on the farm in the summer, and in the fall to harvest. I fished on the Mississippi and ran with friends that rivaled Huck Finn. We had TV for sure but that was a few hours at night or Cartoons on Saturday.

      But now.
Common sense is now the most of uncommon virtues; we lost our way when we started watching TV. We gave our children over to the machine to raise them, to teach them and to entertain them. And the makers of the trash they show are the WOREST OF US.
How many of you would allow some of the perverts that run Hollywood to baby-sit your kids in person, but you do it every day.

We are at fault no way around it,

  18. "Feb. 6, 2004: Researchers working separately at the Scripps Institute in La Jolla, California and at Britain's Medical Research Council discover that the 1918 virus may have jumped directly from birds to humans rather than going from birds to pigs and then infecting humans. They say it explains why the 1918 strain was so deadly, since human immune systems aren't prepared for viruses coming directly from birds" This strain of virus seems to have been an airborne contagion as well

The swine flu connection to the pandemic of 1918 is at best tenuous. The issue with pigs during that epidemic is that they may have served as virus reserviors, allowing it to move in waves into the population. While not advocating this, some of the approaches were somewhat effective – wearing masks and no mass public assemblies. Of course they didn't have the range of medical science that we have today to cope with it.

  19. RockyMtn1776 says:

How bad do things have to get before Napolitano will finally close our borders ? She and the others took an oath ((not that it means anything) to protect the U.S.. Our immigration policy is a hopeless mess thanks to this and many other administrations. Since both Presidential candidates said they would pass an anmesty bill if elected, it's payback time for the Latino votes Obama received. Wide open borders may well be the downfall of us yet, in one form or another.

    • tvlgds says:

We have an entire school district shut down for the week here in the San Antonio area due to a few cases of this flu. As long as the borders are open and the PTB aren't taking this seriously, there will be many more. We shouldn't overreact, but we shouldn't be complacent, either.

  20. mspeed says:

Interesting that the swine flu news pops up just after Obama does a meet and greet with Calderon. The immediate result of their meeting was more bogus information on how U.S. sporting goods stores are arming the Mexican drug lords (funny, I can't find any fully automatic weapons in any of the gun stores I frequent). When that doesn't cause any groundswell of support for anti-gun legislation, they move on to a story that may very well be designed to drum up support for socialized medicine just as the Dems' health care bill, the next item on their agenda, gets to the top of the Congressional calendar.

  21. Nomarxism says:

This is the latest "crisis" they can use for their political and economic advantage. Can you image how this could relate to the "national healthcare" debate?

  22. If you've every read anything about epidemiology and the history of outbreaks, it's already too late. This strain is in our country. As well traveled as we all are, there are also multiple ports of entry from more than just Mexico that this virus will follow. CBP taking "passive" measures is behind the curve on this one. I think the press conference this morning was a show of confidence for us to take reassurance from. I take a measured approach to this, and my only cause for concern at this time is that there is little that they can do for us – and attempts to sound confident ring pretty hollow to me. This will run it's course, whatever that may be.

If you also listened to Napolitano, et al, speak this morning, you'll also note that they are in reaction mode only. The best that they can do at this point is report and monitor – there is no vaccine. The treatment that may be administered at this point is for treatment of symptoms, not prevention.

Just watch and listen, take normal precautions and don't panic.

    • alcade says:

Yes, the best thing you can do is simply keep yourself healthy and practice good hygeine. Keep your nutrition and exercise going which boosts immunity, and wash your hands frequently to stop the spread of infection.

From what I've heard on the news, it isn't exactly as if this is a killer bug (when you consider only a dozen or so "confirmed" deaths in a thousand plus infections…), its just that our bodies haven't built up any immunities to it yet. Once again, common sense prevails, if you're sick, take care of yourself and stay away from those with weaker immune systems, i.e. the elderly, young children, chronically sick.

When they label it as racism and we allow that false allegation to grow then we have failed. It is about the law, we are supposed to be a nation of laws and when we continue to ignore the laws we are a nation thrown into chaos. The question we should be asking is if we need this low cost labor so badly then why can we not establish guidelines so they can enter our country, work, pay taxes, and return back to their native land. I moved down here in 1986, they have never hid in the shadows, the illegal’s have always been out on the street corners looking for work. Here is an organization right near downtown Houston that o has openly provided illegal’s shelter, assistance, free medical care paid for by us taxpayers and all types of free stuff again paid for by us taxpayers. They have a web site and proclaim their great work for the illegal’s to everyone, and our local, state, and federal government not only will not shut them down but actually support their work with our tax money.

  27. NancyNurse says:

It is really too late to close the border, probably. And I believe that a pandemic is any disease outbreak that effects more than one continent—so I think we may have hit that mark today with New Zealand. This will spread, in all probability and we will all probably get exposed, although many won't even get sick. Try to eat and drink normally and try not to panic. We will all get through this together somehow. All our borders any more are porous. Air travel really makes these things spread like wild fire. I know the CDC has to be a beehive of activity. They will probably have a vaccine developed as soon as they can get someone to take on the manufacture and distribution. And as soon as they do, I'd advise everyone to check with your primary care provider about getting one.

  28. ISEEU says:

"Can't let a good crisis go to waste!" And, only the government can protect you…"Yeah that's the ticket."
The government will only tell you about things they can protect you from. That's why they still will not address the UFO issues.

    • Marine4EVR says:

Ditto, I totally agree with you. I personally think that they are making more of this so that they can shove through Health Care in time for the President's 100 day teleprompter press conference. Watch! and it will be over soon, and they will pat themselves on the back that they saved the World.

  29. jsekula says:

Again, where is that damn fence! It could not have hurt in quarantining Mexico…

  30. ISEEU says:

Now this really wouldn't surprise me from these backdoor politicians. What if now they announce they have to get rid of pigs from the U.S? What if they announce they have to get rid of them from Mexico? What if this is a backdoor agenda to get rid of pork because pork offends Muslims? Judging by the appeasement I've seen going on…I think I've hit that one right on the mark!

  31. bamaboy says:

The only two pigs I know is Nancy Pelosi and Hiiary Clinton they are sure to carry the swine flu.Oink!

  32. ISEEU says:

Well if massive amounts of Mexicans won't come to the U.S on their own, maybe the corrupt can scare them into a mass migration to the U.S.

  33. nlb says:

People, what do I do? oink oink. I feel odd and my gruntgrunt nose is turning upwards. Does anyone oink oink
know of a mud grunt oink pile around here? I have a strong oink urge to roll around in dirt. Can someone
please gosh, my nose is really piggylike now. Grunt, oinkoink.
Can someone send me some corncobs?

  34. Marine4EVR says:

This crisis, which they are playing now as a National Emergency, could be another diversion. Watch the hand over here…..watch the hand over here, while Congress is voting on Health Care. Bammm! Now we have Government run health care. If this really is a crisis, and it may well be, how can we possibly believe it considering our Government has cried "wolf" too many times already. Right now Congress is going to use a Reconciliation process to push Government Healthcare trough. This process was designed for reconciling budget issues and prevents a Senate philibuster. It was not designed for new policy. Oh how convenient! Don't waste another crisis to jam some more policy on us.

  35. ISEEU says:

Swine influenza has been around for many many years. Why are they so worried about it? What if it is that they are actually worried about a different more harmful disease, which has similar symptoms? Or, the one that is easiest for me to believe is make a situation that has an easy fix seem like a crisis, and after they fix it everyone will think the government is the hero. My favorite thing about government is that it always ends up having to fix problems it creates from its' initial meddling.

  36. Normav says:

IndyHoosier I am just so suspicious of so many things going on right now and everything that they may or may not be behind. But who are they who might be behind things? Could (they) want to further escalate tensions between the people from south of the border who might be north of the boarder and a lot of Americans with out jobs? Could (they) want to limit people gathering in large groups (tea Partys)?

  37. Normav says:

Rumar has it that OB is going to announce his health care thing on his 100Th day ….. humm just about the time Americans are very concerned about there health and that any one who is sick be able to get medical treatment Hummmm…

    • bawnyfwank says:

that is very interesting. The swine flu scaring the crap out of people, and they rush this healthcare bill through because 'it's an emergency. '
Like Rohm Emanuel says "Never let a good crisis go to waste". They aare behind it or they are the luckiest people ever! You watch, a solar storm or 'something' will knock out a huge chunk of the power grid and they will have their reason for the 'smart grid'

    Dire Warning About This Pandemic

Laws have been put in place to allow the mere utterance of the word "Pandemic" by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to close the trap on anyone inside, entering or leaving the US, compelling vaccination or internment via martial law and other "emergency measures":

We have continually raised the warning about the potential for a “weaponized” or “engineered” pandemic. See for example the following postings on this blog:

There was a movie (the name of which I don't remember) which dealt with aliens invading earth and beginning its systematic destruction — until some mundane earth microbe exterminated them all within a week's time.

The moral of the story, as the narrator of the story said at the end of the movie, was that by going through millennia of epidemiological cycles, humankind had earned its right to living on earth — whereas the aliens had not.

In this cycle of life, continued the narrator, no sacrifice, no death had ever been in vain.

    • OldMarine says:

The movie was the 1954, \”War of Worlds\”, based on an H.G. Wells novel (Remade badly a few years ago). People can make what they want of this current out break, but the real problem is the fear that is being spread by TASS.

OK, there are a few weird things going on here…

3 missing vials of swine flu from the Army Lab at Fort Detrick, MD. and the fact that CNN reports this story on their website and NEVER ONCE mentions the words "swine flue" in the article! Why is that? Are they trying to cover something up?

UMDNJ facility loses two plague-infected dead lab mice
by Ted Sherman and Josh Margolin/The Star-Ledger
    Saturday February 07, 2009, 11:20 AM

The frozen remains of two lab mice infected with deadly strains of plague were lost at a bio-terror research facility at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark — the same high security lab where three infected mice went missing four years ago.

The latest incident, which led to an FBI investigation, occurred in December but was never disclosed to the public.

  41. Whenever ANYTHING questionable happened, the Bush Administration would be out there
IMMEDIATELY, easing people's fears, about an incident being related to terrorism! I have heard NOTHING,
out of this Administration, regarding this outbreak, and a potential link, or not, to terrorism!

  42. wildthing61 says:

Twenty-two students from Auckland's Rangitoto College, may have been infected with the Swine Flu, which the World Health Organisation warn could start a global epidemic.

The students, believed to be senior students, arrived back to New Zealand via Los Angeles on Saturday, after a language trip to Mexico.

Up to six have been showing flu like symptoms, but the test results won't be confirmed until Monday.

Three teachers also accompanied the students on the three week trip.

The group of students and teachers are remaining in home isolation until preliminary test results are known and advice has been given to the families regarding infection control precautions.

Clinical Director of Auckland Regional Public Health Service, Dr Julia Peters says "We are taking this very seriously and doing everything necessary to manage this situation in Auckland. The Ministry of Health is managing the response to this issue at a national level."

The Ministry of Health issued an alert following an outbreak of swine flu in Mexico and the US.

More than 80 people in Mexico are believed to have died and over 1300 are sick as a result of catching swine flu which has led to the closure of schools in Mexico City.

Public health authorities are warning people who have returned to New Zealand from the United States and Mexico to check with their doctors if they have symptoms of respiratory illness.

  43. wildthing61 says:

OBAMA MAY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO DEADLY SWINE FLU

The outbreak coincided with the President Barack Obama’s trip to Mexico City on April 16. Obama was received at Mexico’s anthropology museum in Mexico City by Felipe Solis, a distinguished archeologist who died the following day from symptoms similar to flu, Reforma newspaper reported.

The newspaper didn’t confirm if Solis had swine flu or not.

  44. Now on the bright side of the situation, we can eat bacon and pork chops without feeling guilty. We cannot seem to close our southern borders but we can watch Guatemala close their northern borders with amazement. We can test the DNA of swine flu in 24 hours from a school in New York to the strain of flu in Mexico but we can’t come up with a treatment/cure in several weeks. The man who shook Obama’s hand in Mexico died the following day and the White House is not asking people to stay home to limit the spread of this flu in case it is here, but instead the government is busy buying banks, car companies and starting healthcare initiatives. I haven’t heard it yet but we know that this a plot by Bush Cheney to take over the world.

  45. I will not worry about this yet. For all of you making light of it, I highly suggest you read the history of the swine flu and its effect on the rest of the world. Thousands of people were not killed but millions. After a little research th total is estimated to be 50 – 100 million in 1918! The death toll would be exponentially higher because our population is now global in nature. In 1918 you had to take a boat to Europe that took a week or so, now you can take a plane which takes 6 hours. If the swine flu broke out on a boat the government could place it in quarantine. That option is not possible for us now. The virus could have spread across multiple continents before we would know about it. If other cases start popping up elsewhere and we see the frequency become more common I think I will stay home for awhile.

    • Gregory says:

Richard, would it be fair to say that the medical community in 1918 pales in comparison to today's advances in medicine?

      • jpehrlich says:

Actually I would say NO to that Gregory.
A very interesting book has been recently written about the medical community in St.Louis' battle during the 1918 pandemic. They made many fantastic decisions and sacrifices.
As a member of the medical profession I have always believed that the best providers practice an intuitive science known as the medical arts.

      • Not really. Our ability to combat bacteria has increased exponentially. Since Fleming forgot to clean his lab up and discovered Penicillin in 1928 we have made great strides to combat those little buggers. In fact, we have were so good that World War II was the first war since man began fighting that men killed more people than disease. Almost all of the bacteria that are left are the really nasty ones which are resistant to anti-biotics.

Viruses, on the other hand, are entirely different animals. They technically aren't even alive. In order to be alive they have to carry on certain life functions, and the only thing they do is replicate.. Think of them more as floating DNA strands. They invade your cells, insert their DNA into your DNA and then use your cells mechanisms to make more copies of themselves. Because of how they act it is amazingly difficult for us to eradicate them. They mutate almost every single time they infect someone into a new form because everyone's DNA is different.

The only difference between us and the medical community of 1918 is that we know how it works. The quest to cure the common cold is the most researched and well funded operation by far in the medical community, but we still can't cure it. I do believe our survivability will be greater in the US and Europe, but the rest of the world would be in a heap of trouble.

      • MR2 says:

I would agree with you Gregory.

Medicine and public health has come a long, long way this past century. Most of the people who died during the flu pandemic died from what we now call ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome). Something that we did not figure out how to combat until the traumas from the Vietnam conflict. It is still a killer today, up to 50% in many cases. But modern medicine prevents most from going into full blown ARDS. ARDS patients require Intensive Care for at least a week and another week in hospital recovery.

Now if we have another pandemic, the casualties could overload the system, and medicine will not be able to cope with the numbers. There are only so many respirators to go around. Public health will do much better to manage the crisis, but depending on the scope, the breath and depth of the crisis; at some point all Public Health and Medicine will be able to provide is palliative support.

Prevention is key. Personal responsibility is, well that's why we're here aren't we! During any flu season, stay healthy, stay away from the hospital, get flu shots, good hand washing, good hand washing, good hand washing.have a established relationship with a health care provider.

In a pandemic situation, as above, stay away from people, mask if you cannot. Go to your health care provider to get your scripts of Tamiflu.

As for preventing or "curing" the cold or the flu – there is no magic bullet yet.

It had been 50 years when I talked to my Grandmother it was so painful for her to relive the nightmare in talking about it I can only imagine

  46. winecup says:

Wait… what? How are we supposed to take anything seriously with two sentences such as the following excerpted from the report?

"The CDC's Besser said it was probably too late to contain the outbreak. "There are things that we see that suggest that containment is not very likely," he said. Once it has spread beyond a limited geographical area it would be difficult to control.

But there is no reason to avoid Mexico, CDC and the WHO said. "CDC is not recommending any additional recommendations for travelers to California, Texas and Mexico," Besser said."

What the heck are we supposed to deduce from such insane reports? Anyone else find that these stories seem to add up to something's missing in the picture?

    • Gregory says:

Good question. It does contradict itself doesn't it? Kinda like the life guard telling everyone it's OK to go swimming, when he can see a school of hammerheads just off shore.

  47. IndyHoosier says:

Ut oh, more ammunition for the Obama Deception crowd! Where were you people when the bird flu was popular during the last administration? No, I'm not an Obama supporter, just a realist. Why would this "man made" flu hit Mexico of all nations? Some say to make the sickness travel up north to the US and that is their best explanation. Hmmm, so why not just release the sickness in the US? This sickness isn't even as powerful as the bird flu so why is this a major story?

    • KWilliams says:

Well it is a major story because first off it is more powerful than the normal flu which will raise the mortality rate. Second off it is a variant of flu that has never been seen by us before. Thirdly the rate of spread makes it News Worthy in itself. Started on Thursday and now you have it in Mexico, NewYork, California, Texas, Kansas, and New Zealand, Around the world in four days is pretty impressive.

  48. Normav says:

Kwilliams This is just what I was thinking Marshall law or no more big meet ups (Tea Partys).

Good information, and you are right, stupid jokes are not appropriate, except for the occasional gallows humor. What kind of info can you give us on how to avoid exposure (besides the usual cover your mouth, avoid crowds, etc.)

    • jpehrlich says:

Proper hand washing after contact with people and unclean surfaces.
Avoid rubbing your eyes. The tear ducts are a prime entry point for viruses.
If at all possible avoid airplane travel. The air is recycled and easily spreads bacteria and viruses.
Avoid hospital emergency rooms. (not kidding). If you do not have an easily accessible family physician/internist. NOW is the time to develop that relationship. If you suspect you have been exposed and are developing symptoms contact your MD. Tamiflu can help if given in a timely manner.

      • Smarkin says:

If you work in an industry, such as the tourism industry, that deals with travelers, take extra precautions when handling money. It is really a nasty place to pick up viruses. I work in a state park that has visitors from all over. We wipe our counters, door knobs and use antibacterial gels often to avoid those nasty bugs. With today's global travelers, viruses and bacterias travel from person to person quickly. I would also recommend wiping down groceries and, especially, produce as soon as you get them home. I watched a gal at our grocery store stocking produce. She had a cold and boy, was it disgusting! Sneezing, coughing …although she covered her mouth with her hand, she used that hand to continue on with her stocking. Eye-opening!!

  50. jpehrlich says:

Whoa there folks! I lurk over at the Huff Po and the leftist wing-nuts are going wild with insults, disgusting "jokes" and total mis-information regarding the swine flu.
I come back here to one of my fav websites only to find half the comments here are off the deep end. What gives??!!

I have spent the majority of my career as a health care professional with a specialty in infectious disease and here is what I know:
Three strains mutating into one virus is NOT UNUSUAL nor is it a man-made weaponized disease. It happens in nature. One non-viral example you may be familiar with: MRSA "super bug" that has evolved in our hospitals..a staph-strep mutations that is antibiotic resistant.
Pandemic flu hits the 25 to 45 year old hardest because their immune systems OVER react and the mortality rate soars. . Actually children and the healthy elderly recover in greater percentages.
It takes approximately 14 to 18 months to develope flu vaccine.
This is NOT flu season. If this is truly going to be a pandemic the time line will most likely be that the virus will cause sickness at a steady pace over the summer then beginning next November it will go into over drive.

Conspiracy theories are NOT helpful to anyone with a concern for their families. Now is the time to educate yourselves to precaution and prevention should this ramp up.

    • Smarkin says:

Thanks for the positive and educational response. Now is definitely the time to be educated and not to over-react although wi th all that is going on, it is easy to do. My imagination has been going wild the past 3 months…

    • Southerngrl says:

I agree…however, they tried a vaccine in the 1970's at an Army base…which I believe was given to quite a few people, if I recall. Those people came down with something else wrong with them…So, I'm wondering just how long it will take to develope a vaccine for this one. They didn't get it right the first time…Right? If this is going to be a pandemic…I'd rather prepare now, than wait and possibly regret it. This isn't something I consider a light subject. Neither did the CDC…Mexico cancelled all class in Mexico City….quite a few people…I don't believe in the whole conspiracy thing….however, Mexico City is taking it quite seriously…

      • jpehrlich says:

I am pretty old Southerngrl (LOL) and got the vaccine you are talking about. A few got sick from a batch that was improperly prepared. The majority was OK. The epidemic never materialized then.
Sadly it takes 14 to 18 months to develop a flu vaccine. It is too late at this point which is why the CDC is saying not much we can do now.
The company that manufactures Tamiflu is gearing up to increase the number of doses available.

    • Southerngrl says:

      An Advanced Biowar Event
That Will Be Bigger Than 9/11

On 23 rd April 2009 the world began to become aware of a very strange new version of swine flu H1N1 in Mexico with limited cases in Texas and California. By the morning of the 24th of April, we began hear that there were hundreds of sick and 20 or so dead. By late in the day, we have learned that over 1,000 are now reported ill and over 60 are reported dead. There are solid reasons to suspect that this new Mexican Swine Flu is NOT a naturally occurring event but instead is an Advanced Biological Warfare recombination DNA genetically engineered virus.

      • Southerngrl says:

Here is what we know of the virus so far. This virus has already gone international having crossed the border from Mexico to America. All schools in Mexico City have been canceled, millions of students told to stay home due to Mexican Swine Flu. Sick victims of this strange new virus are currently reported in California and Texas. Over 60 deaths reported in Mexico (could be substantially higher considering the state of Mexican health care and reporting).

Young healthy adults seem to be the most at risk. This is similar to the deadest killer flu in history, Spanish Flu in 1918. Most if not all nations with advanced biological warfare programs have been interested in recreating the Spanish Flu DNA sequence and several are reported to have done so.

      • Southerngrl says:

By MARK STEVENSON, Associated Press Writer Mark Stevenson, Associated Press Writer – Fri Apr 24, 12:20 pm ET
MEXICO CITY – Mexico City closed schools across the metropolis of 20 million Friday after at least 16 people died and more than 900 others fall ill from what health officials suspect is a new strain of swine flu. World health officials worried that it could mark the start of a flu pandemic.

The World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland said at least 57 have died in the outbreak, although it wasn't yet clear if this larger number of deaths was due to swine flu.

Have any cases been diagnosed in your area?
I would also call the county health dept. and any agency that deals with the welfare of the migrants.

Seems they are not trying to start a panic. For example when referring to New York they just use the eight students that have been tested. What they are not saying is that more than 200 students fell ill. Not including the day care which was shut down with the same problem.

  52. KWilliams says:

Well here is the good the bad and the ugly all rolled into one. Today on a positive note swine flu was found in the two states of the union that most people would not mind vanishing off the face of the earth. The ugly part is that due to lax rules at the border it has been allowed across our border. The bad part is it will probably spread across the rest of the country eventually giving Obama the ability to declare Marshall law. OOPS forgot the stupid part of this story. In Mexico they have declared a health Emergency closing all business basically and keeping everyone at home. But here in the United States we are to dumb to put out even a travel Alert. To you liberals out there I just have this to say. AND you expect the government to run socialized medicine. Trust them with Trillions of dollars of your money in bailouts and loans and these guys cannot even issue a travel alert to a country under basically Marshall law at this point. You guys are truly brain dead.

  71. So this strain has Swine, bird and human flu. My question is, who is messing around? This has to be genetically altared. I do not believe for a second this could mutate with three different strands. I believe they are doing this in hopes of a massive breakout. That way they can fast track the "universal healthcare". If millions become sick, they would be forced to give treatment on a large scale. Who knows what else could be in this shot. Our own government is trying to kill us.

    • TNRebelgirl says:

I don't know about kill…but it sure would give them a reason to quarantine a lot of people…

    • DMN says:

We already know that the liberals are afraid the planet is dying. I'm sure it would save some extra air and nutrition for them if a few of us died. How convenient for them. There have been so many deaths in Mexico, I believe, because of their universal health care. It's not easy to get to doctors if you have to schedule appointments far in advance.

    • Gregory says:

As I have said before. We do not need to worry about mother nature. When she has had enough, she will shake the fleas from her crust.
As far as the universal health care thing….I doubt it. It's been posted before by one of the flaming leftists named Chuck, that the elderly should not be given long term care since they are a burden on society. And what majority of the population is most affected with the flu? The elderly and young ones. Remember how upset you felt when those on the left said aids was brought here to kill blacks and homos? Imagine now how we sound if we say our own govt is going to kill us.
Killing slaves serves no purpose, and I believe that is exactly how our own govt views us.

I am not afraid. Whatever happens will happen whether or not my head is in the sand, above ground or six feet under. I am tired of being afraid of what can happen, but I will act accordingly when the time arises without fear dictating my actions. If that means stacking up bodies, than so be it. If I am stacking them up, I am still alive. If I am in the pile, my worries are over anyways.
