This is all a vast leftist conspiracy…They are just making room for Obama Day or Karl Marx day or Antonio Gramschi day or Saul Alinski day or even worse God forbid UNIFICATION DAY the day the world became one

  2. Ian_Spohn says:

Why stop at Columbus Day? George Washington owned slaves, we may as well rename DC, the Washington monument, Washington State, and every school, road, town, mountain, library, etc. that we've named after a cruel oppressor. Doesn't anyone feel bad referring to the black inventor George Washington Carver by the name of a hateful, oppressive slave owner? Maybe if History could somehow forget his real name and all of the other painful references to George Washington then all of the injustices committed against African Americans throughout the years would magically be reversed.

  3. Ivy league institutions are struggling with the recession good for them look who they produce Harvard produced Barney Frank, FDR, George w.Bush and Obama with his law degree not only that Columbia Okay Dick Morris is an exception. However, these colleges are going to go under this would be the best time to apply and maybe when a Republican corrects the problems left by the Obama mess, these schools will become conservative.

  4. Mugwump says:

Maybe if we ask Sal from East Providence or Mickey from the Boston North End to do us a 'favor' and go talk with the slope headed skulls of Brown, then we may read of a very effective history lesson…

    Guido said that!!!

  5. acheyjake says:

Acorn doesn't exist where I live friend. All 77 counties of Oklahoma went for McCain this last election. Oklahoma was the only state in the union to go all McCain. I'm not exactly proud of that but if you don't know Oklahoma, I'll tell you we have a lot of conservative democrats here.

Don;t give up the fight people , Liberty, Freedom , the Constitution , America. Love it or leave it!

It is maddening and frustrating to hear things like this, not only because the arguments against Columbus day are morally and historically wrong. But it is a good thing as we are learning easily who are enemies are in this struggle for America's soul. Things like this are like them flying their flags that they will come after our traditions and beliefs. We know just what they believe, and who they are so we can take the good fight to them.

I would love to see Italian heritage groups from all over the nation rise up to protest the utter nonsense of renaming the Columbus Day weekend. I don't approve of what the native Americans have had to endure, but the very people protesting are the same people enjoying the land that Columbus made known.

    • I do agree even though he didn't discover America if he did he would have used his name and claimed it for Spain. In south America there is a Columbus and he did discover Tobacco, which in my opinion Tobacco is the back bone of this nation. I don't smoke I hate it, but if we lost the industry do you know how much money this nation would lose! I still stay it is an Italian holiday and it should be celebrated but Amerigo should get the credit. you can hate me now if you like and give me a minus I'm only saying this because I love history.

  11. This is just the start to all canceling of holidays!!! There is a movement to change every holiday one at a time. So don't back down to these time wasters

  12. NancyNurse says:

Brown has a lot of nerve to talk about the treatment of 'others.' I was once interviewed by a person sent by Brown to the University on which I was on faculty (in the Midwest near Chicago) to find out why our community was not better "integrated." I was interviewed because, not only was I on faculty, but because I was also a landlady. I told the interviewer (who quickly revealed herself as a liberal aiming to bring about radical change to our area) that our area is complex and that racism that was holding back 'diversity' was more because those of color chose not to integrate rather than some plot to keep them in certain areas. I have rented houses for over 30 years and have never turned down or steered people away from making an application to rent on of our homes. This person immediately expressed an opposite view, even though she was an outside observer. She got my input and we ended the interview mutually disgusted with each other. Afterward, I found out that this 'study' was being commissioned by the university to increase their own community standards of diversity—to gain a better standing in published ratings of universities, not for some noble unselfish cause. Well, long story short, our area has significantly changed–going from 94% white to 88% in less than 10 years. And that shift was certainly felt in last year's election outcomes. And with that shift, the FBI crime stats for our county show a significant if not alarming jump in violent crime. Public assistance needs and requests have more than tripled. The university got their diversity claims supported but was the community served? I don't think so. Brown U was instrumental in dismantling our way of life here. And when I went out east earlier this decade and saw the Brown U community, I was shocked at how segregated and undiverse that community is. Our academic elitist tax dollars at work again!

  13. Robbiemama says:

Oh, well, to hear all the elite talking, the only reason Columbus came here was so he could give the Indians smallpox. Funniest thing, little was understood about the spread of disease at that time, but we JUST KNOW he came here for that reason and that reason only!

  14. Oldbikefixer says:

Okay, I'll go along with getting rid of Columbus Day, but only if it's replaced with another Federal holiday…. say, perhaps, St. Patricks' day? We could celebrate it on the FRIDAY before March 17th, if the 17th doesn't fall on a Friday. Banks and the Post Office would be closed, and Federal law could mandate that everybody has to get stupidly drunk on Guiness Stout and/or Jameson whiskey while chasing snakes around. Of course, socialist healthcare would take care of all the snakebites and hangovers.

  15. Runningamuck says:

Dont you believe that this is an example of appling modern day ethics, to a historical figure. Blaming a historical figure for his actions with out understanding the social sets of the time. I am not going defend his actions, but history is full of figures that have made poor decsions. America is about overcomming those issues and creating a country that we can be proud of now. When we degrade our history, we are degrading what we have accomplished and how far we have come as a society.

    • Jacob says:

I see where you are coming from. However, I thought it was good to share light on both the good and bad aspects of Columbus. No sense in ignoring his faults completely. Show his flaws along with his success and I think you give a deeper understanding of your history. It can get ugly.

      • Runningamuck says:

Jacob, I agree that history can get ugly and very often has and does. But it is that understanding of that history that allows us to overcome the mistakes made. It all goes back to the "those that dont konw are doom to repeat them," mantra. Learning those mistakes made is the responibility of all us, so that we dont repeat them. That is why when we learn of their mistakes, we also need to learn what were the conditions or the pressures placed on them that created those historical events. Ganining the understanding of each historical figures allows us to walk a few steps in thier boots (as it is) and imagine the decsions that we would make if we were in their place. For all of the flaws of our historical figures, they are part of the family that has made our country. For good or bad.

  16. acheyjake says:

Ok Ion01, if you are so smart and intelligent, you should tell EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD WHY YOU don't teach what you say is true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fact that YOU don't teach what you preach is a REFLECTION OF YOUR LACK OF TEACHING COMPETENCY!!!!

You are condemning yourself for your lack of ability. You are condemning yourself for your inability to teach accurate history Ion01.

Good luck with that, fool. In case you can't figure out the premise of my reply, refer to the last question in your post…..you asked: Why don't we teach that!

Ion01, you asked a question and ended that question with an exclamation point. You also have many grammatical errors in your post, but I assume that doesn't matter to you because you are a teacher.

I'm sure you are a great "teacher".

    Good luck with that!

  17. DMN says:

Why are we all in here? Are we here to discuss the topic of the day, or are we in here to try to save our country? Why are we wasting time chatting about trivial crap as our country is being taken from us?

      try the decaf friend, gggeeeesshhzzz

      • DMN says:

I'm sorry if I'm disturbing your chatting. I'll try to encourage others to save our country in a less offensive way. Go on back to sleep.

    • stang289 says:

this is not trivia news maybe to you it is trivial ! so now only two people have there own holiday martin luther king and jesus , maybe colombus day can be fidel castro day or obama day!!there taken everything american away from us dont you get it thats why this is relevant!!

      • DMN says:

I'm sorry if I offended you,stang289. Thanks for being patient with me. We are in this together. I didn't mean to belittle your feelings.

  18. mad_as_h says:

If the students want a substitute day off for Columbus Day, I suggest Erickson day. No on second thought that would only confuse them.

  19. Lap1 says:

Colleges, they educate you and suck all the common sense out of you all at the same time. Just like the schools in some muslim countries are brainwashing their kids to hate america, we are doing it here as well. Damaging generation after generation.

Notice how someone is always trying to dig something negative up on individuals who accomplished great things in our past. No one is or was perfect…except Christ.

  20. go stang ..wow i finally found out how to comment ..this was tricky ,,so i will try to follow and reply ..as soon as i get some more experience .. Hey want a history lesson ..the liars told us columbus discovered the americas.. why then are we named from an italin PROPHET america vaspuci..??? take that to change the holiday..to my day ,,and give us a day for ebveryone and no work will get done ,,we have enough days of 52 weeks a year two days every weekend ..abolish all of days and go to rest on the sabbath…7 th day..7 days without prayer makes 1 weak..

  21. OldMarine says:

And just how were they killed? From the readings I have done, it was because of simple dieases that the natives were not immune to. The same way indians from south America killed North American indians when they met, besides battles. So to say that Columbus killed the Natives is like saying the Europeans started the slave trade. By the way, the friendly Muslims captured and sold africians into slavery to surpaise other Muslims. Also in case they didn't include this in your briefing notes, Other Africians sold Africians into slavery to Muslims.
Frankly, if I was Italian decent, I'd be marching on the university, if any donors are italian, no more money. Screw them!

    • comradeobama says:

No way, the Indian Ocean slave trade began before the Atlantic and involved Africans selling Africans to Muslims!?!?!?!? I never knew that!

And bringing disease to America is not a good thing. Probably doesn't deserve a holiday.

      • OldMarine says:

Well, atleast you learned something, now the Columbus day is not just a celebration of Columbus or the discovery of America, it is a celebration for the Italian-American that also worked so hard to help grow this country. I don't want to hear about the criminal element, there are bad people in every group. Columbus was used because he was ITALIAN, did explore and did land in the western hemishere. It is a day to honor the Italian Americans, just as St. Patric's day is to honor the Irish, there is only one day that is used to honor one man, MLK day, and then there is a Black History month! Can't we get the hell over the PC bull______! I mean if we want to be PC then get rid of all them and rename them. This crap of why should we honor him because of this, Maybe if people knew that MLK was a REPUBLICIAN, then maybe he wouldn't have his very own day!
By the way, I'm sure that back in 1492, Columbus knew that he was carrying germs that would be harmful to the Indians, I'm sure he went out of his way to pick crew members that were sick. GET A GRIP!

  22. watman43 says:

Hey comradobama you are wrong hitler killed moore people than columbus and further moore comrad obama you are no friend to me and comradobama is no friend to the united states of america. (maybee the UN )

  23. watman43 says:

we should buy a pitch fork ,and a can of roofing tar and send the reciepts to 1600 Pennsylvania ave..

  24. Morgue says:

They know how we feel, but consider the facts: Congress had approval numbers in the single-digits, and almost 100% of incumbants were re-elected … that's the problem.
We need term limits, and the end of the 2 party system. Letters, phone calls and tea parties won't change anything.

  25. Jerseygal says:

From what I remember about history, the native Americans, prior to Columbus or whoever was here first, lived a life off the land, mostly nomadic. The tribes probably traded with each other and we know they fought with each other. Then came, let's say, the European with a shipload of stuff to trade – like cloth and knives. It was and is human nature to want this stuff, so they offered their furs and shells and whatever in trade, thereby encouraging the 'white man' to return with more goods to trade. Throughout the world, for centuries the more efficient and sometimes more aggressive society prevailed in the region of his choice. This leads to another issue, but five centuries later perhaps the Native Americans of today wish their ancestors had closed their borders.

    • Jerseygal says:

Anyway, the lefty-loons want to take every bit of our heritage and dismantle it. Will we next be expected to abandon July 4th celebrations because some British were killed? Easter because it involves Jesus? Veterans Day and Memorial Day (would have to be both because BHO doesn't know the difference between the two) because our military killed our enemies? Mother's Day because not all moms are nice? Father's Day because too many fathers actually work for a living? Thanksgiving Day only if changed to ThankObama Day? Groundhog Day because it wakes up a rodent for entertainment? Labor Day may stay because it might make some think of the big unions and it does give union workers a paid day off. Valentin's Day because it is associated with a massacre in a Chicago garage? They've already launched assaults on Christmas and St. Patrick's Day.
Hey – here's a thought. Those idiots can give up all those holidays when they pack up and head for Cuba or Venezuela!

  26. stang289 says:

whats next no more mlk day?no such luck!!!!

    • MLK Day will be moved to February to replace President's Day, since we can no longer celebrate a day in black history month honoring a President (Thomas Jefferson, et al) who owned slaves. Whats next, no more Patriot Day to worry about offending the damn terrorists who attacked our country!!!!

PS- this is sarcasm and I pray it never happens!

  27. DMN says:

If this site is a place that encourages inaction, this is not the place to be if you truly care about your country. Don't be fooled by finding people who think and feel like you do. That is nice, but we are going to lose EVERYTHING while we happily chat in here. It's our jobs to save the USA. Otherwise, once again, why are we here?

    • Gregory says:

And your recommendation would be what?? Grab your rifles and head to Washington? Don't give us all a bad name because you want blood. We didn't get this bad off over night, so fixin it won't happen that fast either.

      • DMN says:

Gregory, I respectfully have to ask you where you got the idea blood was in any way involved. I've been in one of the other rooms and we've been making plans for the Tea Parties. I just needed to feel like something was being done in the real world. You are WAY out of line with the gun idea; you're jumping on me like I'm one of the liberals in here. Go check out all the stuff I've said in here. I'm totally nonviolent. I'm sorry if I offended you in any way. I've always enjoyed your posts.

    • Amen DMN – I find that writing here is just "preaching to the choir" I maintain contact my elected representatives before, during and after every vote they cast on legislation, both state and federal levels. I also call when the issue is scorchingly hot – and it seem that the insane and inane pace of scope and change at the federal level demand a lot of my attention and effort.

Bottom line- this site is a great idea, but it has no follow through. I was excited when I first started posting – when it lets me, but this is not enough, so I post less. Until 9/12ers actually become a force rather than words on a screen, this won't amount to much more than just words on a screen. Utnil we affect polticians and poltics – and that means votes AND money, we are just shooting blood out of our eyes to no effect.

  28. acheyjake says:

This is the dawning of the age of Americans.

  29. CatEye says:

FIRST, IT'S NEPHITES. SECOND THE MORMONS DID NOT KILL EACHOTHER, THEY DIDN'T ORGANIZE THE CHURCH UNTIL MUCH LATER. THE LAMANITE PEOPLE (THE AMERICAN INDIAN ANCESTORS) KILLED OFF THE NEPHITE PEOPLE. THEY WERE, FOR THE MOST PART, BITTER ENEMIES.

  30. DMN says:

No matter who was what, the settlers defeated the Indians and laid claim to their lands. Many countries in existence today had conflicts in order to claim their territories. You don't see them apologizing like the US seems to be doing. History happened….people should get over it and be careful that our country doesn't become HISTORY!

  31. mzravinblack says:

In 600 BC the Nephis and Lamanites came to America from Jerusalem and Jesus appeared to them after he ascended into heaven from Jerusalem then coming to the Americas (around 30 AD) and by 400 AD the mormons had all killed each other.

The Ladder Day Saints use their version of the King James Bible with their Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price.

    • Morgue says:

You're obviously not LDS, and I have no idea what the point of that was other than to spread misinformation about another person's faith. What does that have to do with Columbus Day, the 9:12 Project, or anything at all?

      • mzravinblack says:

ah…the nephites and the lamanites were basically the mormons that is what the book of mormon is based on…they were not the ancestors of the natives indians and the LDS church has stated that…there was also a group called the jaradites that are in the book of mormon that mormon preached against…

anyway that one looks at it they all came over in 600 BC and ended up killing each other…so, Columbus by the Mormon account didn't discover America he rediscovered America…

it has alot to do with that Glen Beck is a LDS member and could care aless about Columbus day…after Smith was killed Young moved to Mexico…

i am not spreading any disinformation about the LDS….one thing my ex husband was brought up a mormon and his father still is one…and i have been studing with the missionaries…so, i do KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT…u r trying to spread false statements about me

just because i pointed out that beck himself would not believe that Columbus discovered America doesn't make me what ever u try to say…so Beck read ur own book and remember you sound like the Lamanites

    • fjj says:

I'm having trouble figuring out how this relates to the article. Enlighten me please.

    • CarlT says:

You know the Bible warns us not to accept any other Gospel. Any other is heresy……no matter how good the Mormons think they are

  32. Byboozian says:

Can you name one nation in existence today that did not come into creation by the invasion and conquest of another people or nation?

Can you name another country in existence today other than America that gives special rights and privlages to the people it conquered to create the new country?

Maybe the founding fathers should have adapted to the primative social system used by the various tribes that were here when they showed up instead of creating the United States. That way, over two hundred years later a small group of people wouldn't get their feelings hurt.

  33. What next, deny observing and celebration the 4th of July, our Independence Day? I mean alot of innocent people got killed in the fight for America's independence. Who do these people think they are? You can't just rewrite history, there is nothing you can do to change it, thank God for that!

Colombus isn't even my favorite explorer and I always thought he was a little over rated but he does have his place in history. You don't have to celebrate Columbus day, just observing that is the idea, taking notice that someones actions helped bring us where we are today.

    • comradeobama says:

Uh oh guys, Wikipedia, Youtube and Alex Jones all say the end is near. So many reliable sources, so little time.

      • Army documents, Halliburton construction contracts, Press Releases, Government admissions, it's all there. Its all real. Read it for yourself. Your Television set does not give you the truth. The denial has to stop. It has destroyed this country.

"A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves" – Edward R. Murrow

  34. Islandsox says:

I grew up with American and religious traditions and no one, no one, is going to make me change how I celebrate them or what I say about them. It's Merry Christmas and I have a Christmas tree, not a holiday tree. I celebrate Halloween, so much so, I was married on Halloween years ago; I believe in Thanksgiving, not Happy Turkey Day, I don't work on Columbus Day, or President's day (uh-oh, that last one will probably be changed in honor of you-know-who), Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, you get the drift.

Just because some liberal idiot who has nothing worthwhile in their lives to honor doesn't mean that I will change my life and be their sheep and participate in their stupid new descriptions. This administration and these liberal colleges are forgetting one thing: Obama didn't get 100% of the vote. And he certainly won't next time, even if those 12 million illegals become legal because that many people will create unemployment off the charts thus dooming the Great One.

    Shoulder-to-Shoulder

    • OldMarine says:

Great statement! I just have a question that will really stir up some crap. Why do we have a Hoilday for Martin Luther King, but none for JFK. Why do we have a Black History Month and not an Irish History Month or a Native American month. I think that was more then 1 question….sorry!

    • DMN says:

Even if there's unemployment off the charts, the illegals will vote Democrat. That's what they do. And I'm sure ACORN will drive each one of them to his/her correct polling site….with Black Panthers present to ensure their safety. I will celebrate whatever holiday I feel like celebrating….I don't understand why Obama feels like he can come in and steamroll over American customs. I'm praying we will make the next election count.

    • acheyjake says:

Shoulder-to-Shoulder Islandsox…..but, you left out Easter.

      • Islandsox says:

achey: Easter's listed in there! By the way, in response to DMN's comment about all those illegals voting for Obama, how about if we all register a hundred times with ACORN? They won't mind.

  35. 5ForFreedom says:

Very Facinating commentary going on here. Christopher colombus is not responsible for the death of thousands of natives…their savagery did that. also it is NOT the responsibility of any school or university to teach history or any other subject to your child…..IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AS THE PARENT !!!! The school compliments & adds to what WE teach our children. The real george washington, Jefferson, Franklin, the 5000 year leap & the King James Bible are not issued "text books" but you can be damn sure my children will read every one of them !! Our future starts in our homes….OUR RESPONSIBILITY ! Leave colombus day alone !

    • mzravinblack says:

my other reply was suppose to be to this post but it changed somehow…so i will add that the Ladder Day Saints use their version of the King James Bible…

    • mzravinblack says:

no morgue guy to say that i am spreading disinformation about the LDS church…because i have an LDS King James Version of the Bible that was GIVEN TO ME from a missionary…so, Morgue guy…what do u have to say to that?

  36. PirateNPink says:

What Columbus finally got pirated………… ?

  37. Islandsox says:

It's a federal holiday for crying out loud (for now). I'm waiting for the government to take Sunday away and replace it with Obama. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Obama. And now the University of Maryland won't allow the benediction at their graduations because they don't want to offend people. What about offending those who want it?

Columbus Day stays, period. All people killed in battle at any time in history for land, rights, freedoms, don't mind anymore. And they are continually honored by those of us who appreciated their sacrifices.

    • DMN says:

We should ALL celebrate Columbus Day and NOT do what we're told to do by our LEADERS….you know, those ELECTED officials who are supposed to be WORKING FOR US! We can all sit in here and cry as our rights are taken from us, or we can stand up and make ourselves known. What will it take to finally get everyone to ACT??!! We have to make our feeling known to our elected officials NOW!

  38. Ion01 says:

The early US citizens weren't great to indian. Thats our history and its in the past so learn from it and don't make the same mistakes. Germany doesn't try to hide or pretend the holicaust didn't happen. They remember it so it won't happen again. Whats wrong with that. Nothing! Its what we should do because when we don't we end up in the situation we are in now in which we have become exactly what the founders of this country were trying to get away from and prevent. How do you keep people from being racist? By teaching them about history, not by ignoring it as though it didn't happen or buttering it up so people don't get thier feeling hurt.
So he treated indians badly. Thats history! Grow a pair and get over it. Move on!

  39. Ion01 says:

Don't get me wrong…getting rid of the holiday because he was mean to indians (of which I have indian blood and even have a famous indian relative in my linage) thats not a good reason to not observe the holiday. How about the fact that he was an idiot, was wrong, lied about it, and he wasn't the first to the americas either! Of course he, did discover it for the western world and had he not we wouldn't be hear as a country so that sounds good enough for me but lets teach history correctly.

  40. Ion01 says:

American history is extremely important, however, american history teaches us that Columbus was a great explorer when in fact his was an incredible idiot! The whole idea that everyone thought the world was flat and he thought it was round is completely wrong. Everyone knew the world was round the debate was how big it was. Columbus thought it was small enough to sail around to find a quicker route to india. He was wrong! When he got to america he actually went back with food and spices claiming he was right! Why don't we teach that!

  41. warlock says:

Ok, I was going to let this go with one comment, but I can't. I find it hilarious that these liberal institutions are falling all over themselves to be more PC/Liberal than the other fools on things that make absolutely no difference to anyone that has a brain anyway. What's next?

  42. warlock says:

Not that I really celebrated Columbus day, but I'll be damned if I celebrate "Fall Holiday" or whatever it is.

In my family, we have started traditions of celebrating certain holidays, and I don't care if Brown University or anyone else changes those holidays to be some PC watered down day off, I'll keep celebrating the holidays as they stand with my family, and anyone else that I care to invite or that wants to celebrate with me. Happy Founding Fathers/Presidents Day! Happy Easter! Happy – I'm glad we kicked the stuff out of the English and threw off a Tyrant Day! Happy -I'm glad the worthless unions actually got me a day off Day! Happy Halloween! Happy Thanksgiving! Merry Christmas Everyone!

  43. Gone says:

American history is very important, but honestly my defense would be more focused on the days, events, and people leading up to, and fighting for our independence that we enjoy in this Great Nation. As well as; people and events dating after our Declaration of Independence. I believe these Holidays better reflect who “We The People” are today.

  44. nddo3 says:

Yes, lets get rid of the person who found this country instead lets have Viva Castro day!! Everyone smoke a Cuban! No not the Dallas Mavericks owner.

    • Robert says:

I can see it now.. "shooting spree in Miami due to misconstrued meaning on the912project site.. Glenn Beck to blame, Rosie O'donnel predicted it"…. lmao..

    • OldMarine says:

Smoking Cuban, after the Movie he financed….mmmmmmmmmmmm

    • DMN says:

I think the Indians learned survival of the fittest. Unfortunately, if we don't do something, we're going to learn that same lesson. The strongest country in the World is being taken over by fascists/communists/black liberation theologists/muslims who were actually VOTED into office. Wow!

      • nddo3 says:

It is the people who get their news from headlines and fall for a lie told over and over and over and over that voted them in and keeps them in. A lot of people do not have a good financial background to make intelligent decisions. They see if the governement gives me something "for free" then it is a good thing. They are allowed to see a tree and not the forrest. They are conditioned not to even try to look at the forrest.

Emotions guide the left, logic guides the right. Feel good politics sell more easily then common sense. THAT is what we are up against.

  46. dittoman says:

I am sure that the same Brown University student body would tell you that they vehemently support immigrants bringing their cultural traditions with them and celebrating them. In fact, they encourage it. But, our culture and traditions are to be attacked so the students can feel that are "good" people. Why don't they all give their property and Brown University to the Indians and go back where their ancestors came from. That would really be doing something for the Indians rather than just "feel good" tearing down this country's culture and traditions. But then, they would actually be doing something to their selfish selves.

  47. The continuous erasure of the American culture continues.

This is what education has come to. The students at Brown believe that the new world was a a perfect paradise and the peace-loving native americans protected the animals and the environment in perfect harmony before Columbus arrived.

Actually, the native americans were slaughtering each other for thousands of years before the white man arrived. They routinely tortured their captives, turned them into slaves, took their scalps, burned them alive, or cut their living hearts out as sacrifices to their gods. And they did not live in perfect harmony with the environment. They would ravage an area of its resources and then moved on. They ran entire herds of buffalo over cliffs for the meat of a few. Their acts of violence and destruction were as egregeous as those of any other race and culture differing perhaps only in scale.

Two violent cultures collided and one dominated the other. The native americans would have done the same to the Europeans if they could have. The students at Brown should spend more time learning their history and less time emoting about fairy tales.

Berkeley California doesn't celebrate it as Christopher Columbus day either. Keep in mind these are more then likely far-left liberals that condemn America and secretly want to be European or want America to be more European like. It boggles my mind why people want to forget history or change it. You cannot change the past. If it's a good history or bad history you should still acknowledge it. We need to keep history from repeating in some instances, so we need to keep it. Stupid things like this might not make seem like a big deal but I personally want Americans to know the dark history of our country because it also shows how we triple that in good America does.

Really, in a sick way, Christopher Columbus is the Grand-Daddy of all of the worlds current problems, at least according to Obama.
Of course, he happens to be wrong, and all you have to do to prove it is look and see how many people try to float on rafts to America from Cuba every year, and how many people will do anything to get here. In the real world, people don't flock to become part of the problem. And in the real world, every day should be Columbus Day.

Columbus was a man of his time. History shows that people treated each other pretty harshly back then. He was brave to get on a ship and sail with no idea where he would end up. Native Americans could be cruel as well.

  62. This is just another example of the left hating this country so much that they continue to tear down it's history brick by brick and replace it with the revisionist history that fits their agenda of a glorious socialist society where every one is equal…..equaly poor and miserable, just like them.

  63. Kevin says:

I really do not see what the deal is with not having a Columbus day. What he did opened the world to Western Culture. Now I know I am going to take a lot of flack for this, but that is my opinion. I don’t condone what was done in the name of spread Christianity. I do not agree with how the American Government has handled those who were here before us. Can we really blame Columbus. Look at the world that he lived in. The Spanish Inquisition was going on. They had no idea about human rights. Blaming Christopher Columbus for what happen 300 years after he set sail is like blaming Newton when something falls on your head due to gravity. Do I agree with how Columbus and those who followed him treated the Native Americans? No. But he did not have the benefit of the ideas of human rights and equality. We cannot judge ALL of the actions of those who went before us by our own standards. They did not have the exact same standards.

Who discovered America? Why it was the Native Americans, they were here way before any English, Italian

reservations to live in. It makes me sick to know what the "settlers" did to them. Just remember who was
    on this soil first!

    • SecretPolice says:

I always need to ask when I hear something like this. How do you know who was here first? Maybe, just maybe the American Indians took it by force from some cavemen or other such people that were here long, long before Indians – no?
Did the American Indians just somehow appear here magically and when they appeared, there wasn't anyone here? Nobody at all? And you know this how?
I mean really, have you ever considered that before going off and acting as the white man was so evil but the Indians was saints?
Also, I sure wish I could run casinos and businesses with no tax assessments and make billions for me and my family.
Sorry pal as it sounds like all the PC stuff that is ruining the…….. American Way!

There is a group called La Razza in southern California that is trying to take back Arizona, New Mexico, and most of California from the United States and give the land back to Mexico. The scary part is that this group gets hundreds of millions of dolars of federal money every year and is increasing in popularity to the point where they will soon be able to get party members voted into government positions. If that doesn't make US Citizens angry, I don't know what will.

    • Border_Fox says:

The definition of just who is a "native american" is open to question.

      See: http://www.wovoca.com/controversies-kennewick-man...

Partial quote: "The point is academic, in a way, because whoever the original Americans were, they were not native. If the archaeologists are right, the first Americans were immmigrants from the other side of the world. The only question is whether they hailed from northern or southern Asia. Or then again, maybe from Europe or Eurasia? For in fact, respected researchers claim that Kennewick Man's and other ancient Americans' skulls have features that resemble contemporary Caucasians, archaic Norsemen, or the Ainu, the mysterious early inhabitants of the Japanese islands who had, to quote the Los Angeles Times again, "European faces, wavy hair, and thick beards." So the first "native" Americans may have been Europeans! "

      • warlock says:

I wanted to add that I read (sorry I don't have the reference) that a lot of the native americans got the land and dwellings they posessed by conquest, not development. And further, early explorers found ancient battlefields that were still littered with what was left of the bodies left.

I'm not saying that their treatment is justified, just trying to point out the "native" part in native american is probably an eggageration.

      • kckshrugged says:

Border_Fox = thank you for pointing out the other potential first settlers.

    • Nicoli715 says:

Most of the native american population died off becuase they were exposed to diseases they had never encountered. There was no such thing as germs back then or a knowlege of how or why diseases spread. Because they had never been exposed they had no antibodies (passed down from mother to child) to these diseases that Europeans could tolerate. This caused mass spread of the diseases and death of whole populations. And was the main reason for the quick decrease in native american populations.

    • dittoman says:

And whats with this white man junk! Are all white people evil racist or something? The indians tribes fought and killed eachother in battles just like current nations do! But that must be okay because they are red not white. They even took the loosing tribe as slaves in some cases. But thats okay because they weren't white. Going along that same point blacks were sold or traded into slavery to the "white man" by other black tribes! In fact south africans took india indians to be slaves. (american indians are called that because columbus was trying to find india.) But its only bad when the white man does it and all whites should be punished and pay for the treachery of thier ancestors. BTY: I have indian and euro ancestors so what about me? None of my euro type ancestor ever had slave either so should I have to be punished or should I get something for my bit of indian heritage?

I don't agree with any mistreatment of any Native American, or any forced treatment of them. I do wonder if not Columbus and Spain then who? At some point in history some man from some powerful country would have come here. Maybe someone from China or Japan, or Egypt. Anyway what i am trying to say is some powerful country that knew they could push the Native Americans around would have shown up at some point. I know we dont celebrate Albert Einstein other than he was the worlds smartest man, he did help in the atomic bomb that killed many people. I am sure some people in Japan are not to happy with him. Anyway sometimes we as humans change the world for the better and worse we just dont know it at the time.

    • Ion01 says:

The poor american indians have little reservations to live on…..what? They have all of america! The same nation you live in! Why should they be given special treatment such as not having to pay taxes, be given land, and such becuase of something that happened a long time ago. Why should you or anyone else pay them because of something that happened a long time ago. Did they have to endure any of that? Did you or anyone living today do any of that? NO!!!!! Its history. We cant change it and the people living here today have no reason to deserve special treatment! They have the same freedom we do. What more do they need!

      • Robert says:

As a Native American Man, I agree with this statement. Not that I'll end up on TV advertising for ya or anything, but I'm also against the "reparation" crap. This Nation is what we have made of it, It's not "One Person Under God"…. But again I'm sure the administration could argue me on that one..

      • Morgue says:

I'm only 1/16 Native American, so I don't get a check or anything from the government, but I lived in Arizona for many years, and the tribes there have a pretty sweet deal. They may not have the coastlines or anything, but seriously, compare that to what the Spanish did to the "natives" down in South America.

    • The native Americans didn't discover America they were here and most of them were barbaric. When the Europeans came here they called it the "New World" like Christopher Columbus and Amerigo Vespucci who discovered America. Christopher Columbus found Americas back bone Tobacco…. Oh yeah, the Chinese also sailed before anyone else, but never claimed the land. They probably did kill Native Americans but the history of that was destroyed. The Vikings had also found the land and left. The Native Americans had no laws and couldn't govern themselves was it right what we did, no but that's what happens when you are weak you are ripe for the take over. Read Columbus's diary everything happens for a reason why? Well would the Indians have stopped WW1 or WW2. No! but even though they lived on reservations, they were helpful in WW1and WW2 why? because there language the Choctaw language and the Navajo language. Lets hope with the new president we don't meet the same fate as that of the Indians, it wont matter what color you are you will be labeled as an American.

  65. Boopster says:

Fall weekend somehow does not seem befitting to the man who was credited for the discovery of America.

When Columbus made his voyage he had two goals as noted by history one trade routes for Spain and two to bring the word of “ Jesus Christ”!

  66. This type of ignorance of history is why we are in the state we are in today. You are right on a certain level. When Columbus arrived everyone he met was essentially going to die. Were the settlers harsh to indians? Yes, they most certainly were, but you cannot judge someone from the past by today's standards. It simply isn't fair. If we did do that then nobody would be a good person worth remembering. Most of our Founding Fathers were slave holders, but we still celebrate their lives. The philosophers of the Enlightenment were mostly anti-semetic and all were against women's rights. I would like you to name just one person in the entire history of the world who would be a good person by today's standards.

The second problem with your argument is that you assume all Europeans were actively seeking to destroy the native people. There were some who thought of the indians as nothing more then cattle, but there were plenty of Catholic priests who sent letters to the Spanish crown and the Vatican declaring what some people were doing was sinful and should be stopped. You must also remember that these people did not have any idea what germs were. The germ theory was not taken as scientific fact until the late 19th century. They didn't even have the theory of bad air (miasma).

Blaming Europeans for the death of native peoples is wrong. Ask yourself this. During the middle-ages plagues swept across Europe that all originated in China. These plagues killed 2/3 of all of Europe. Do the people of Europe hold a grudge against China?

  67. tommyice says:

Why are we JUDGING a 15th century man by our 20th and 21st century standards? A few hundred years from now, how will the political correctness be judged? Will 24th century man say "wow, how enlightened they were!" or "what ignorant @sses they were?"

No one is forcing anyone to celebrate a holiday they don't support. If the institution doesn't want to acknowledge the holiday they can be open and allow the people to work, or go to school.

To celebrate a day, or to mourn a day is a choice. People also have the choice to just use the day for what ever they see fit. If you don't agree what the day stands for, educate people. Burying the day under another name doesn't do either side any good.

If Columbus day was on a weekend, would this institution have made such a big deal about the name to begin with?

So go ahead…cancel Columbus Day. Burn our books and indoctrinate our kids and change history. It will come back to bite you in the ass later because if you dont know history, history will repeat itself.

    • Aspade says:

While I appreciate your general commentary, I do not agree with a couple things. 1.) Our nation is in the mess we are morally etc in part due to the fact that the American people HAVE forgotten their hero's, their history, and what made America great. 2.) NO do not go ahead and cancel Columbus Day! We should fight to retain our history and our heritage not give it away without a cross word.

    • comradeobama says:

What lesson is to be learned from Columbus Day, if you come upon a land full of people and you've never heard of where you are, kill everyone? Perhaps we should teach the true story of Thanksgiving (which involves the death of the Indians) rather than the doctored history.

And celebrating Columbus Day is like celebrating the Holocaust. Thanks for the irony.

It just doesn't set well with me that an Ivy league University has the arrogance to chance the name of a day to suit them. "Hundreds of Brown students had asked the Providence, R.I. school to stop observing Columbus Day, saying Christopher Columbus's violent treatment of Native Americans he encountered was inconsistent with Brown's values."

Who are they to decide this change just because they don't agree?

    • comradeobama says:

Do you celebrate pagan reproduction rituals (actually a bad example considering you probably celebrate Easter)? Why should they celebrate a holiday they don't support, and with excellent justification not to celebrate.

We need to teach about how Columbus slaughtered and caused the genocide of the native peoples of the Americas. In fact, having an education is why these students got the university to stop celebrating Columbus Day.

    • AndreaB says:

I feel sorry for these students who judge everyone on their feelings. I think that thru the course of history, there are too many things to list that are horrible. I live in the present with an eye towards the future, I can't change what has happened in the past and I don't really think about how the "white man–or since Columbus was Spainish wouldn't it be the "brown man" killed the "red man". I don't think that you can re-write history to someones political views.

    • TheCook says:

I think the essential point you are missing here is that the values that Brown (a PRIVATE institution) holds are at odds with the means Columbus and the subsequent flood of conquering armies used to settle the "New World." So, contrary to your argument this name change (for the University) is actually the by-product of an aware and sober view of history and the backbone to stand up values some hold very dear.
They are totally free to celebrate (read: shop at killer sales, right?) Columbus on their fall break if they want.

  78. MerNJ says:

This kind of crap has been going on for a while. When I was at Rutgers in the early 90's, I had a professor give an exam on Good Friday. As if that's not bad enough, he announced ahead of time that he didn't care if people were travelling home for Easter – there would be no make up exams. I lived an hour away, so it didn't affect me, but I called the University to complain. The woman who took my call explained that Rutgers does not celebrate any holidays. I asked about Thanksgiving – that's fall break. Christmas – Winter break. MLK Day – oh that's part of Winter break as well. That was a load of crap to me. MLK day is always on a Monday. Work and school weeks start on Monday. Why would a school not come back from break on a Monday unless they wanted to honor a holiday?

  79. This is just another example of the radical minds that have infested our institutions of higher learning are slanting views on our American heritage. Are we going to get rid of Thanksgiving next because of the way the Native Americans were treated? Why not leave Columbus Day alone? It's not there to celebrate the treatment of Native Americans, it has an entirely different purpose. So much of this disjointed logic stems from students who jump on some bandwagon and take such an incredibly narrow view that the end result of their actions becomes ridiculous.

    • comradeobama says:

So why do we celebrate Columbus Day? To celebrate the discovery (which was not Columbus') of America, which resulted in the genocide of native Americans?

  80. Gregory says:

Is there nothing off limits? I would suggest the colors of powder blue and white. I figure the UN should get involved with this.
The first "American" was probably a very cold Mongolian that crossed the frozen sea to the North, looking for opportunity. Even back then the idea of this nation was alive.

  81. les_13 says:

Would it be racist to say that if Columbus and other explorers had not ventured into the "New World," we wouldn't be having this debate? The United States wouldn't exist, "White Europeans" would still be on the other side of the pond, and the slave trade would not have brought anybody to North or South America.
Columbus is relevant, not because he discovered "America," but he shattered the commonly held belief that the world was flat. He discovered The Americas! What has happened in the 500+ years since his heroic voyage has not all been just or fair, but it is still our history. Let's learn from it to become better people. Let's create a society where, as Teddy Roosevelt said, "There are no hyphenated Americans."
To the best of my knowledge, the United States is the ONLY country in the world that uses ethnic prepositions to describe its citizens. Why can't we just be Americans (no hyphens)?

    • comradeobama says:

What. Most had accepted that the earth was round long before Columbus. Many ancient societies calculated the circumference of the Earth.

And yes racism is bad. Why should we celebrate it on Columbus Day?

Columbus is relevant, not because he discovered "America," but he shattered the commonly held belief that the world was flat. He discovered The Americas! What has happened in the 500+ years since his heroic voyage has not all been just or fair, but it is still our history. Let's learn form it to become better people. Let's create a society where, as Teddy Roosevelt said, "There are no hyphenated Americans."
To the best of my knowledge, the United States is the ONLY country in the world that uses ethnic prepositions to describe its citizens. Why can't we just be Americans (no hyphens)?

  83. Nightman2009 says:

You would think that people going to a university would be a lot smarter what are they teaching people how to be stupid. If you don't know why we celebrate a holiday that you are not american.

    • les_13 says:

Perhaps their definition of being an American is more being a compliant "citizen of the world" instead of a loyal citizen of the United States of America. If the United States were so evil, people wouldn't risk their lives to come here today. I don't see very many crossing the border to Mexico for economic opportunity or risking drowning to take advantage of Cuba's freedoms and superb medical system.

    • comradeobama says:

Why do we celebrate Columbus day? To celebrate the genocide of Native Americans?

  84. traveller says:

Actually, ancient Egyptians, knew of the Americas.

  85. CatEye says:

Once again the ignorantly young & politically correct are out to discredit our heritage. No one claims that our history is perfect, as a matter of fact there is a lot that we would rather forget. However, are we not to learn from mistakes made? Yet this is a much deeper issue than simply imperfect people. How many of you have had holidays such as Valentine's Day & Halloween (we dare not forget Christmas!) abandoned in your public schools? And I shall not even begin to indulge in an argument concerning the disgraceful act of abolishing our pledge of alliegence. We do not have to all agree on everything, but we can not deny from whence we came. For that is what will best teach us where we should be going.

    • comradeobama says:

Why should students be forced to pledge allegiance to a country when they are still learning about History and Civics. They can't make an educated decision as to whether they wish to pledge allegiance to the country.

And the Pledge was written by a socialist, hope this helps.

  86. jwjcc1 says:

Do you think this University would seek to change the name of Martin Luther King Jr. day? How about Black History month? What about Ceasar Chavez Day? Of course they wouldn't. It is however fashionable for these institutions of elitism to attack this country, its culture, history and religious origin. I would love to send all of "progressives" to live in North Korea for 5 years just to hear them beg for the opportunity to recite the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE upon their return.

    • I just love how you take something about Columbus day and totally turn it around make into a topic about the pledge of allegiance.

But back to the topic at hand, let them change it. Columbus didn't discover America..it should of been named Lief Errikson day.

      • CatEye says:

True that Columbus was not the first to discover America, it had been inhabited and visted by many before him. However, because of his influence and persistence he was able to introduce the New World to the rest of the world. Give credit where credit is due at least.

      • GodHelpUsAll says:

Well….since you insist on being technical…..Abraham Lincoln gave blacks freedom, (a republican) he was also white. NOT martin luther, so why don't the blacks celebrate Lincoln? And white people. LOL

    • bobandlola says:

We are quickly losing our liberty, our constitution and our history. For 2 years I have thought that Obama is a plant who is an important part of a major plan to ruin our Nation as we have known it. Our colleges have been gradually changing and rewriting our history to suit their purposes. We need to join in groups-large and small- to study our constitution so we can try to save it and our free way of life. Changes are coming much too quickly as all those involved are trying to get as much changed as they can before the normal citizen can stop them. Thank you for all your research in bringing us the truth and the facts. Keep up the good work and may the Lord bless you.

  87. I don't know why we celebrate Columbus day. Christopher Columbus wasn't the first to discover North America, it was Leif Eriksonn if I'm not mistaken, or some Viking.

    • Ohiowoman says:

Maybe you should try reading some history to get your answer.

      • 05DINKY56 says:

They probably did read some history from, Brown University. Maybe they should try reading a history book that will tell them the truth!!!

    • FoxJunkie says:

I totally agree! Columbus never set foot on the mainland. Credited with the first setting foot on the mainland was John Cabot. Actually the first was Leif Erickson 500 years before Columbus. I have never understood why Columbus was credited with "Discovering America". We should be celebrating Erickson Day …

  88. comradeobama says:

Black people certainly don't celebrate Lincoln on President's Day!

And Lincoln didn't care about slavery, he merely freed the slaves as a way to damage the South economically. And the Republican party of then was analogous to the Democrat party of the 60's: radical.

  89. GodHelpUsAll says:

Next he'll be saying he stood on Plymoth Rock.

  90. Zeromentor says:

You do know that Columbus actually fought against the horrible treatment of the Indians right? That in the later years of his life he could very well be called an activist. But no one listened to him and I think he was locked up after his last trip back from over seas.

He really didn't mean to cause so much suffering, and I believe that. They had no idea about diseases or the crazies that would flood to the new world and see the indians as sick slave labor…

  91. Kaczmarek3 says:

Cuba is lovely this time of year. Why don't you move there and get citizenship. You would be less ashamed of your country. Enjoy standing in line for toilet paper and rice.

  92. Teleroncom says:

You bought the lie! Hook, line, & sinker!

  93. lnbarnes says:

OMG, you need to study history, native Americans routinely brutally fought each other and tried to annihilate each other well before Columbus. Pre-Columbian times were brutal. try reading the Cronicles of Bernal Diaz and find out the truth.

  94. JDAngel says:

You still here? Get lost troll!!!

  95. indiana912 says:

Again a waste of our time!!!

  96. lisale says:

"…more people died as a result of Columbus" than Hitler?? That's pretty inflammatory. Can we get you to cite your source on this?

Now, I do know Hitler gave direct orders to his SS to murder German patriots who harbored Jews…like my grandfather. And, he gave direct orders to Hans Frank and others to exterminate camp laborers. In contrast, Columbus never intended to harm Native Americans. As one historian put it, blaming Columbus for any warfare against the tribes that took place during his time is like blaming Abraham Lincoln for the Civil War.The issues at hand were far bigger than one man and Columbus, himself, did not start any violence.* Now, if you are pointing to the smallpox blankets as an atrocity, I would agree. However, those guys lived 300 years after Columbus.**

*Examining the History, Navigation, and Landfall of Christopher Columbus by Keith A. Pickering
**Lord Jeffrey Amherst: A Soldier of the King by J.C. Long

  97. Revisionist history and comments like this really show your depth of ignorance and stupidity

Get to know the story of the man, and the accomplishment of the act of getting across the sea and back again – 3 times. Stop blaming him for what followed.

Comparing him to Hitler is the height of arrogant hubris and ignorance and has no moral basis in fact. At most by a twisted proxy and a completely skwed versionof hisroty you could arrive at your post. They aren't even apples and oranges. Hitler was evil incarnate, Columbus was not.

  98. stang289 says:

to celebrate the new president we have is like celebrating the antichrist day comradmoron!!or at least not the end of the world the end of the usa!!!

  99. jwjcc1 says:

I actually am black but would not seek to make assumtions for what all black people celebrate. I believe racial sterotyping is a devisive tool used by those who seek to label people for their own use.

  100. ericsanford says:

Thats like someone celebrating Obama for causing the massive inflation and tax increases that will hit in the next few years. You might have a point. (NOT)

  101. Goo says:

You are the precise definintion of a troll. Stirring the pot for want of nothing else but to be contrary and pat yourself on the back for your ingenuity. Well, you're not cute.

I happen to be partly Native American. I happen to think that while many of my people were killed, Western civilization brought more good than harm. You seem to forget, that up until the 17th century, many of my people were still in the stone age, living in the dirt. I would rather live in a society that didn't treat their women like cattle, to be bartered for higher station in life.

  102. CatEye says:

Please! Don't be so petty and ignorant! And do not warp my words. The original comment had nothing to do with the tragic fate of the native inhabitants. In absolutely no context did I condone those abhorrent actions. How dare you suggest otherwise! Have horrible crimes been commited through out our history? Regretfully, yes. Was Colunbus perfect? By no means. He died poor and rejected. However, Columbus helped spark an interest that eventually would result in a land of opportunity unlike any other in the world. Though we must never forget the terrible aspects of our history (for then we will never learn) nor must we forget the good (once again we will never learn). So why insist on this? I feel your intent is only to produce contention, so I will let this end.

  103. Skeeter J. says:

"…more people died as a result of Columbus" than Hitler??

Yes, i'd love some references to confirm that fact.

  104. comradeobama says:

Well, Wikipedia, citing academic journals, claims between 8.4 and 112 million people lived in the Americas pre-Columbus, and the minimum estimate for the death toll is 80%. So if we say the minimum is accurate, and it is probably too low, at least 6.4 million died as a result of colonization, which is about the number of Jews Hitler killed. If we go with the high estimate, we can estimate somewhere around 90 million natives died as a result of colonization, many times what Hitler killed.

While Columbus didn't start violence directly, he did bring about the beginning of the end for the native peoples, and this should not be celebrated.

  105. lisale says:

The above is from Fell's publisher, words which would be designed to give Fell credibility. However, "America B.C. does not contain such proof and does not employ the standard linguistic and archeological methods that would be necessary to convince specialists in these fields." [The Biblical Archeologist, by Goddard and Fitzhugh]. His work, while interesting, does not meet the standards of peer review or data scrutiny. The only discovery that does is in Newfoundland where remains of Norse tribes exist. However, there seems to be no evidence that Leif Erikson and the boys attempted to establish trade or actually did anything other than set up camp, which is why Columbus (rightly) gets all the credit.

  106. comradeobama says:

Hey whats up person who replies to the troll and bumps me to the top of the page?

  107. comradeobama says:

I was actually being sarcastic. I'm sure that some black people do and some black people don't celebrate President's Day. I was replying to "GodHelpUsAll" in saying that blacks don't celebrate Lincoln.

  108. OldMarine says:

A word of common sense, Thank you.

  109. DMN says:

It's a good thing you're so UP on what black people think. I guess you've got that psychic thing going for you. And, by the way, you're SO smart! It's great that you know exactly what Lincoln did and did not think!

  110. OldMarine says:

Debating a liberal is no challenge, Just bring out the facts, if they don't have the talking points, then they are totally lost. I don't mean to brag (Have you ever seen a humble Marine?), but I've all ways had a curious mind, maybe that's why I've been interested in science since I was a kid. If I don't know something, I'll tell you, but the next time you talk to me I will, that's the way I am. Its same with politics, I believe in America and I know I've said this before, but my beliefs are God, Country And Corps.

Thank you! I have learned to have facts on the issues if I am to discuss it with my friends (many of whom are libs). And it really works. Have you read Mark Levin's 'Liberty and Tyranny'? I strongly recommend it. It has further empowered me to speak informed on many conservative issues. A pocket copy of the constitution has helped immensly. I find they run around crying 'unconstitutional' and when handed one and asked to cite the amendment, they are equally lost. Our household is one that loves God and our country, and our children are all raised this way. My 18 yr old has toyed with the idea of enlisting in the Marines, and I hope he does (giving me some crap these days – he needs a drill instructor to get in his face andscream'your butt is mine and you will do what I say.') The kid would likely make a good Marine, and humble he's not! Thanks for the reply.

  113. OldMarine says:

Haven't got to the \”Great One's book yet. I carry a pocket size constitution with me in my brief case. This is between you and your son, but if he wants to join the Corps, let him. Forewarn him, he will be entering an entirely different world, and for 12 weeks it will pure hell, but if he keeps his mouth shut does what he is told, when that 12 weeks are over, he will have earned the title \”U.S. Marine\”, the key word is EARNED, it is not given. I was in the AF reserve before I joined the Corps and my Mother knew I was going active and she figured it was going to be AF, when I told her the Marines, she looked at me and ask why, I explained the rank & all and then looked at her and said,\”I wonder if I have the ___s tomake it\” She siad basically, go for it.

  114. Morgue says:

What are you suggesting? The Tea Parties are next Wednesday, and there are marches planned and whatnot. Phone calls and strong-worded letters are being sent. We're trying to do this civilly, similar to the civil-rights movement rather than the French Revolution: peaceful and all that noise.

If you want to stick your head out the window and scream "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it anymore" until you pass out, be my guest.

  115. Morgue says:

I'm "Melaninly Challenged" thank you very much.

  116. Gregory says:

The govt won't take everything all at once. One piece at a time is all they want. This is just one piece of a larger puzzle, and discussing the pieces can enlighten others as to just what the big picture is.

  117. DMN says:

I'm now involved in the Tea Party movement, so I'm less frustrated. I'm sorry if I upset you in any way. I was feeling overwhelmed and useless. I feel better now. Thanks for talking to me. And I may take you up on your screaming out the window idea….

  118. mzravinblack says:

is the tea made in America or somewhere else?….if i remember correctly the Boston Tea party was a protest on the taxes on the tea coming from Britian…so, i ask again…is the tea being bought to send where ever or drank where ever BOUGHT IN THE USA?

  119. JDAngel says:

yea top of the page so we can ignore you right away

  120. Gregory says:

I know the feeling. I still can't spell "AARRGGHHH" correctly. You'll be in DC, I will be in SA, and we will both do what we can. Everyone here (except the trolls), are part of this movement, and talking about stuff keeps some from blowing a gasket.

  121. Gregory says:

You seemed to want instant action. I have read your posts also, and I was a little perplexed at the sudden need for instant action. We are less than a week away from making one loud voice heard.

I may have misunderstood your post, and if that is the case, I do apologize.

  122. comradeobama says:

If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that."

    -Abraham Lincoln

And what assumptions did I make about black people? That some do or do not celebrate President's Day? That's not really that extreme of a logical position.

  123. comradeobama says:

Oh hey cool thanks for the second bump.

  124. For once..I agree with you

  125. stang289 says:

  126. stang289 says:

i was not offended at all just trying to make a point about how everything i knew as a kid has been taken from me by a bunch of liberals and now my country too and it makes me sad AND MAD!!and yes we are all in it together and we need to remember that even when we have our different opinions except for the people with the negitive numbers they are clearly morons and they hate our country and freedom!!

  127. Morgue says:

No you don't! I am actually LDS, so allow me to set the record straight for you and you "ex husband"…
Nephites and Lamanites were NOT Mormons, they were Nephites and Lamanites. Mormon was the Historian that compiled his people's record; hence the reason the book is called "The Book of Mormon".
Second, there's strong evidence that the entire Book of Mormon occurred in a relatively small regional area, around southern Mexico and Guatemala, rather than over the entire western hemisphere. This may contradict what some early members of the church personally believed, but it doesn't discredit the book itself or the church.
Third, after Smith was killed, Young brought the members of the church to Utah. You're technically right because Utah wasn't a state yet, but it's misleading to say that Young "moved to Mexico".
It's nice that you're taking the missionary lessons, but again I ask: "what does any of this have to do with Columbus Day, the 9:12 Project, or anything at all?"

you need medication…i haven't talked to my ex husband in 14 years…he did not like the mormon chapel…his father is an elder in the stake chapel…now, i say that since the prophet morom wrote of these people they can be considered mormons…that was all i was trying to say

second…the truth is these people found America long before columbus did…and these people all killed each other and the prophet moroni added to his father's accounts and buried the plates of their history…that history is that they all killed each other…even after several prophets warned them of their ways just as the Lehi had warned Zedekiah, the King of Judah that Jerusalem will be destroyed before they departed to the Americas..since the plates were wrote in the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians maybe the egyptians told them how to get to the americas

the jaradites came to the Americas after the fall of the Tower of Babel…and most LDS believe that it happened in what is now considered America…from New York and what i would add probably as far as Coloroda…

Cat – I agree he is celebrated because he did discover the new world. If others were here first but the information was not disseminted than who cares. Nobody knew. Someone could come along 10 years after me and discover the cure but he publishes the data and as a result people are cured. The second person who discovered the same cure but at a different time is the one who will get the accolades.

I'm tired of the PC crowd disrespecting Columbus and we should all celebrate his achievement.

I have no problem with you personally, but if you are spreading misleading or false information (such as the Nephites and Lamanites being Mormons), prepare to be corrected. If you have thin-skin for correction, I admonish you to read D&C 109:7.
