    There are many families that are torn in two by the lack of free travel between these countries. I do not feel that the Government has any place dictating whether or not family members should be able to travel to visit each other. However, I think that is the extent that we should be friendly with Cuba. The Castro's are simply not good people. They have no regard for their citizens. We cannot condone that behavior by offering too many olive branches.

  2. I would like to take this opportunity to ask all my fellow 912'ers the following question seriously;

    When BO made his speech to the people of Germany during the campaign Angela Merkel had a closed door meeting with BO for all of 5 minutes but would not be seen with him nor attend his speech.

    When BO went to the G20 conference Angela Merkel would not work with him at all nor be seen with him as much as possible.

    Now, I ask you, does Angela Merkel see something that 52% of America didn't as a nation? Maybe because she may be old enough to remember, or, accurate German History tell's her to stay far away from this guy?

    Does Angela Merkel feel she is seeing an Instant Replay?

    I believe she does and for some reason I trust her judgement!

    Political financial motivation; Cubans are still driving our old 1940-1960's cars. Our collectors will buy all there old cars, and we will push our new cars on them. The big 3 must be behind the push.

    Also, allowing americans to freely visit Cuba is a logical strategic move. If we easily can access the country we'll have a better vantage point to observe and monitor the buildup of the new Russian bases going up in South America. I'm certain we want to add some kind of facility in Cuba for a special goverment need.

    Apparently he has concerns about the environmental impact that tourism is having on Antarctica?

    Cuba (a communist "state") and Antarctica (considered to be a politically "neutral" territory).

    Understood. (Please 'know' that my reply was a 'positive'….) I appreciate the 'insight' of your initial comment…….and I "meant it' when I stated:

    Our mutual problem is "how" to get our so-called-leaders to 'understand'…….especially when it comes to funding anything worthwhile, using taxes 'other than from' the general fund. It is too bad, that we cannot get our 'lawmakers' to "see your point"……without funding the oppressive/corrupt government in Cuba. We are trying…..

  9. Personally, I believe we should keep the ban up until the people of Cuba overthrow the dictator. They are sheep like this country has become sheep (harsh but true) and have not stood up for their independence. People are controlled because they allow themselves to be controlled. Freedom does not come free, it comes from sacrifices, even the ultimate with life. Those people would rather risk their lives in an ocean in a small boat than risk thier lives fighting for a cause, and wants freedom that we have fought for to maintain. But there are people in this country who abuse their freedoms or lax their freedoms at the expense of those who fought to maintain it. Keep you eyes close going through life and stay in the darkness while the light of liberty is quashed.

    The US government has been keeping families apart for decades by blocking travel to Cuba. Anyone who holds the 9 principles dear should fully support lifting these travel bans.

    • If these "boat people" adhered to # 4, they wouldn't have run away to America and left their family behind. Pretty low, cowardly, and dishonorable if you ask me. Stop blaming America for other peoples bad choices.

      • The pilgrams as well were "boat people" who fled an oppressive regime to escape religious intolerance. Do not judge these immigrants that came to this great country under similar circumstances as our forefathers.

    I don't particularly like the idea of them sending money to their families which will ultimately end up in the hands of the Cuban gov't, but we as a country have no problem arming the Chinese army with all of our "Made in China" purchases. If American citizens want to visit a country like Cuba, we should let them, but then let them suffer the consequences. A trip to Juarez, Mexico anyone??? I didn't think so.

    You do realize that many of the Founders were attorneys. Let's look at the content of the person's character, not their occupation. My husband is a lawyer and the most humble, thoughtful man that I know. He is considering running in the future because of his concerns which are consistent with Constitutional values. I would hate for people like you to turn away from what is right based on preconceived notions.

    I understand that the Cuban-Americans will want to send money home to help their families.
    Here's the problem (and it soon can become ours) the rate of taxation.
    When the Castro brothers see these families getting more money, what will likely happen?

    Money for the gov't. is collected from the Cuban citizens in 2 basic ways "land rent tax" and
    utilites tax. The Cuban gov't. can assess more (tax) or less as they see fit. If you don't believe
    that the Castro brothers DON'T know who gets what money & when they get it, well I got some land
    in Cuba you can rent as well.

    In the long run, the Cuban-Americans will be giving the Castro brothers MO' MONEY.

    Anyhow, even though I 'could' be interested, I'm not; I don't want to support them (in any way), and I don't want a clone of old technology (especially since I can now acquire a fuel injected 327, producing 300hp, that gets OVER 20mpg).

    On subject, why would we even consider assisting a despot? Should we NOT be trying to fix our 'own' broken house-of-cards? (If they are so successful, why do they need our 'capitalism' to succeed?)

    Seems that "keeping OUR focus" would serve us 'all' better, without 'venting'……

    If they answer "YES" to any one of these questions then your duty is to disqualify them immediately! The only place they belong under the "Structure" of our Constitution is in the "Judicial Branch". It is a "Conflict of Interest" for them to hold a position in any other branch of any government in the United States,
    If you don't think this is true then just ask yourself one question; "Why does any lawyer running for a legislative position have to resign as an active member of his/her law firm? Because it is Unconstitutional". If you think they resigned and left their Agenda behind you are "SADLY MISTAKEN".

    Just think about it, if Walmart was allowed to purchase goods from Cuba that would increase the prosperity of Cuba considerably. Is that a bad thing for Cuba? Quite bashing Walmart folks. Take them out of the workforce and you would have considerably higher unemployment AND higher prices.

      Sorry, but it isn't about WalMart…… The current rulers would prosper, but I doubt the 'subjects' would. Our previous philosophy was to 'coerce' the so-called-rulers into a more family-friendly form of government. The last thing (which we most likely would end-up with) is for "our support" to be misused (at the expense of the population)…….as we cannot be the "enablers" of oppression.

        MyrmidoNOT, yes I was being sarcastic in my comment. I would encourage everyone that smokes and are mad as hell about the new tobacco tax increase to cut back on their smoking (I have). This would send a clear signal to the lawmakers that the expected tax revenue to fund SCHIP has failed.

        The Colonists protested to the KIng when they were being over-taxed on basics such as sugar. They cut back on the consumption of sugar and it send a clear signal to the King.

  26. I'm all for letting families reunite. I think that's great, and long past due. The part of the article that upsets me is that the restriction on sending money to Cuba is also lifted. The President stated in the article that it was about time for Cuban-American money help their families become less dependent on the Castro regime. What about Americans being dependent on the welfare regime? We have a massive governmental spending program (that I wholeheartedly oppose), so shouldn't we be trying to keep our money in-house a bit more? I don't like telling people what to do with their money, but given the actions of our government, I think we have to start trying to compensate a little bit.

    Yeah, watch out Mexico and China, we have a new cheap labor market in the works, and like China, we can overlook their worker standards so we can get our socks another 25 cents cheaper at Wal-Mart. Capitalism works on a level playing field. Some fields are just more level than others. But as Hillary said with China, no reason that human rights should interfere with trade discussions.

    Understood; but that bridge 'should not have been crossed' either. The problem(s) are many, but our LONG-TERM diplomatic process/conditions have been corrupted by previous administrations (too). We are supposed to 'uphold' our values, by "standing for" something, over time. This has been eroded, to the point that "they" do not even 'know' how/why/where to 'deal' with us. (This project is about values……or the re-awakening of them.) You know, GOOD management!

    The problem is their government, not the current 'subjects' (which I am trying to utilize, in the kindest 'sense'). I wish your concept would succeed; but history has proven that the 'powers-at-be' would most likely be the ONLY beneficiary (of our efforts).

    Too bad we are occupied with other issues, like preserving OUR country/republic, before it too becomes a shell of "things past". We must keep our focus, and preserve OURSELVES, so that we are THEN able/capable of assisting others. Hopefully in time, we then could 'assist' in creating a more family-friendly form of government….
