Our tax code is so large that it is jam packed with double taxation. The only way we are going to stop issues like this one is an overhaul of the tax code. Eventually, the goal must be the complete abolition of the IRS. If abolition is impossible, it needs to be downsized definitely. There are many people out there that do not realize exactly what the death tax is until they are affected by it. It is up to those of us who understand what it is to make sure that others do as well.

You mean like the Senators and Representatives??? :)

Over the last decade or so, I've come to realize that what I thought was …wasn't always so. Some of us tend to stick to the party line at least until the evidence becomes overwhelming- just seems safer than to take a hard look at your guy at the podium. I was once one of those in that segment that believed my guy was incapable of doing anything TOO bad. We should know better- after all, they are politicians on the big stage with high $ supporters looking for the payback. We have to scrutinize them every step of the way and take nothing for granted. That sounds a bit jaded, I realize, but these people hold our collective future. Once our freedoms are all gone, it will be a painful and potentially bloody fight to get them back.

We do have to stop looking at each other as this party or that. Drives me bonkers! We are Americans first with different takes on a variety of issues. I will say that I'm not impressed with Obama so far- I had a glimmer of hope early on- the first month or so. That has since faded with his appointment of cabinet members, excessive spending and promotion of programs that I do not agree with. Because his ticket won, I can expect and accept some of these changes. What I cannot accept are the attacks on the constitution. Even though I am at odds with his administration (and often beyond anger), it does nothing to build my case or encourage thoughtful analysis to rant and call him names on this site. As you have more or less said, this type of posting is not at all constructive. Regarding the comments being made about Obama being the antichrist and the lack of disagreement, there are a number of postings that I don't agree with, but I don't always acknowledge my disagreement. There are some on this site that state their Biblical interpretations as commonly accepted fact. I read them and disregard them- I do not agree with what they are saying and think that it will turn some off, but don't know that I want to open that can of worms. Touchy enough that we are treading on the delicate ground of politics. But then again, perhaps we could do a better job of keeping on point and asking others to be more constructive in their comments.

I am unfamiliar with the liberal websites or the media that may or may not support them. There is extremism on both sides. Plenty of liberal commentators that really get under my skin, just as there are some conservative pundits that are just as irritating when they overlook and defend the politician without regard to their actions. What is the founding father quote that says we should not respect/defend? the person, but look to his actions? It's a great quote- anyone?

I've never felt compelled to comment on a website. I would say the reason there has been support of this number is because so many of us feel disenfranchised with our government and the direction our nation is headed. I think it is unfortunate that some will totally disregard the message and perhaps the messenger because it is airing on Fox (even though his show on CNN offered similar criticism of the former administration). So many know the channel by reputation only that they may not give it a chance. No, I don't expect liberals to gleefully tune in for their nightly dose of Hannity, but would hope that the merit of Glenn's show might speak for itself. I'll be jumping off my soap box now- sorry so long.

Except y'all are coming to the tea party awfully late. Where were all of you during the drunken sailor spending spree by George Bush and The Republican Congress? The budget increased 40% between 2000 and 2006. 40%!!!

And how is it that the Republican Congress' Budget in 2006, as signed by George Bush, contained nearly 4 times as many pork earmarks as Bll Clntons Budget of 2000?

I'm glad you are finally waking up and taking action, but we could have used your help during those pork and spend, Bush/Republican Congress years.

    • jus4fun2 says:

I didn't like the spending then and I sure don't like it now! I protested everytime to my representatives! I will say we were fighting a war and trying to recover from 911 and no one seems to cut him a little slack on the huge task that was at hand! All the while we were on a steady climb out of very slow times. At least people had jobs and income to help pay. If it wasn't for energy prices stealing all our wealth in a short period of time we would still have plenty of money. Now we have neither and we are expected to pay more? I think NOT!!

      • imwithstupid says:

just4fun, you don't hold George Bush responsible for the Economic Meltdown?

There was nothing conservative about Bush's economic policies. Neocon or Republican, yes, but not Conservative.

And where was the "Oil President" who you excuse "for energy prices stealing all our wealth in a short period of time". BTW, The Office of Budget and Management concluded in October of 2008 that unregulated speculation caused oil prices to skyrocket to $4.50 per gallon, not supply and demand. There is a bipartisan bill being sponsored in Congress right now to end that speculation. We'll see if the fat cats are able to quash that bill.

Nor was Bush's response to 911 Conservative. Neocon or Republican, yes, but not Conservative.

Can we please get past the "where were you" comments? This is an ongoing theme with many of the postings on this site. While I can understand your frustration with the apparent apathy of the American public, I don't know what purpose it serves other than to make yourself feel a notch higher. It gets us nowhere towards solving the problem that we all face- a government that is out of control- whoever is out the helm. This site undoubtedly has a conservative majority, but please don't lump us all in with the very small segment that will defend the Republican party at all costs (I would imagine there is an equal number of liberals that will do the same for the Dem party). I think that most of the people here are somewhat civic minded and aware of what is going on with the government. They are the most likely to have made their opinion known to their representatives. Odds are that many (myself included) did what you think unthinkable- were angry with inappropriate Bush/republican actions and yes, made our feelings known on a regular basis.

Most people I know don't really want to know what is going on- just so they can go to work, get a paycheck, and sit in front of the tube each night. This site is the cream of the crop in my opinion- those willing to be educated and take action. I hope we can ALL work together- liberals, independents, and conservatives without the political infighting.

      • imwithstupid says:

Miffed, you sound very reasonable, but I respectfully disagree with your assertion that on this site their is a "very small segment that will defend the Republican party at all costs". I have read countless comments and have barely read a reasonable position yet. In fact, most of what I read, imho, is opinion from another planet.

And, all of the opinion is clouded by an irrational fear or irrational hatred for Demcrats and more specifically, for the evil Barack Obama. Go check out the news item "President Obama Wants Europe To See The GOOD That America Does" wherein about 22 commenters speculate, seriously, abut Obama being the antichrist, and not one person dissents that as preposterous but me. Those peple belong in padded rooms.

I do agree wholeheartedly with your assertion that "there is an equal number of liberals that will do the same for the Dem party". But I don't see those nu!jobs going main stream with a sight like this, along with the support and encouragement of a major network and it's comentator/entertainer.

The "where were you during the drunken Republican spending spree the last 8 years" was simply to point out that the "populist outrage" of the commenters here is solely motivated by their fear and hatred for Obama and the evil libruls. The premise that it is anything but is preposterous.

95% of the visitors to this site don't even know about the Republican spending record. Suddenly, they are concerned for our country.

I just posted about this on another thread… Someone on here made the suggestion that we all change our w-2's so that no taxes are withheld. They would see a sharp decrease in $$$ to pay for the mess that they are pushing through. I'm in! Just hold on to the money that would go to taxes. Unless we got large numbers to go through with this, you can bet we'll end up in prison or they'll come and take everything. On the bright side, you might get a job offer from the White House- seems this is a prerequisite for employment there.

Speaking of light bulbs. About a year ago I started buying the "old" kind of bulbs every time I go to Walmart. I've got quite a collection now. Some of my globes that cover the bulbs are not the right size or shape to handle the the new bulbs, that by the way have mercury in them. Eventually I'll have to spend the money to buy new lighting fixtures because of this and it really ticks me off. It seems so minor, but when it's included with everything else going on it (repeat) really ticks me off. The new toilet thing didn't decrease the amount of water we use, so why should this light bulb thing help with whatever it is they want to happen? I think it's called control.

This is a very powerful video of JFK explaining what is going on in our country (NOW). It is very frightening and very informative. Could this be what caused his death? It seems that every leader who has confronted this issue has been assassinated including Lincoln. It is also a problem that has been in existence for thousands of years.

    • cowlord9985 says:

The Senate approved its budget 55-43 late Thursday. Only two Democrats – Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana and Ben Nelson of Nebraska – voted against the plan, along with all 41 Republicans. Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., did not vote

If, While you were living, you transfered ownership of that property to the trust, which you controll naturally, it is no longer part of your estate but becomes aprt of the trust. You can then even give instructions on what to do with the items in that trust after you are gone. Lets use the house again as an example. You have been smart and transfered ownership of your house to your living trust. On your death you trust documents instruct the trustee to sell the house and fund the trust with the cash from the sale of the property. This money can then be used any way you direct the trustee to administer it. Now, instead of you locsing a huge part of your estate to probate and estate taxes your heirs are each individually taxed on the money they recieve from the trust as if it were income. Prety nice eh??? Oh by the way this is how the Old Money keeps their family fortunes.

Or may be he is the perfect man to wake up America, to bring us back to our roots and vote blind leaders such as Obama out of office.

    • imwithstupid says:

I can't even freakin' die without the gov up my butt!!

    • Do a historical study on publicans, tax collectors, and evil – and you will have a good historical description of Obama, the Socialist Democrats – and other such socialists (including the nationalists on the right).

  35. The error here is assuming enlightenment was the problem, but both revolutions came from the universities, not the workers. Socialism is an intellectual movement, with the obsession of creating a perfect godless society. Read up on the history of eugenics and euthanasia. You will find the arguments for both abortion and death camps.

  36. railboy4 says:

You might be onto something here. What a convienient time for the market to show a rally? While Obama is at the G20 summit. I can see them doing that to make Obama look like the GREAT OZ.

  37. It's pretty clear that small businesses account for the majority of jobs in this country, but the death tax disproportionately effects them. I guess the government wants to promote the idea that, "Well, my kids won't get the benefit of my work, but hopefully, after they've been sufficiently indoctrinated after their forced service in the AmeriCorps that they will make a decent living off governmental assistance."

    • 56coop says:

Small businesses—I own one folks. How many of you posting here have been in a Wal-Mart lately? IF so you have helped ruin small business in this country. I can compete with any price on any product sold in chain stores, give much better service and all the money stays local. If you have bought from a Best Buy or Sears, Wal-Mart or Big Lots, when the same products were available froma local small business then you are just as much a part of this problem as government. Buy local and help YOUR community. If you tqalk the talk then walk the walk!!!

    • imwithstupid says:

      imwithstupid
Except the death tax does not disproportionately effect the small businessman, nor mom, nor apple pie.

Make your argument against the death tax with facts, not populist platitudes – 95% of small businesses don't make enough money to be effected by the death tax.

I'm a small businessman and there has never been any politician looking out for my welfare – nor do I ask them to. So it galls me when politicians wax poetic about the poor helpless small businessmen that they are pretending to help, when always it's the fat cats they are actually helping.

    • jus4fun2 says:

In the first place we should not be standing for any kind of a DEATH TAX!! We have work are ass's off our whole life's for what little we save . Our bugets should never be more than we take in, Period!

  38. Simple, the Tea Parties should be demanding either the Fair Tax or the Flat tax that has been trying to get in since Ronald Reagan, called the Kemp Roth bill. I prefer the Fair Tax as it would abolish the IRS completely.

  39. AuntieJ says:

Great idea! That would really fox their box….

Back to the estate tax issue…..Most people forget that anyone who has owned land for a long period of time have been paying real estate taxes every year on the land. As the value of the land increases, the taxes increase too. In Florida (which is the only state I'm familiar with) if the property is homesteaded, the tax cannot increase but 3% per year. However, if it is raw land, or not homesteaded, there is no cap. Property taxes are determined by the fair market value of the property, which is affected by recent sales in the general area. Unless proper estate planning has occurred, many people can have a taxable estate. This is double taxation. You pay income taxes when you earn money. You buy property with the money you earned and then pay real estate taxes on the property. Then you die and your estate pays taxes AGAIN based on the value of ALL your possessions at the date of death. It makes it impossible for some families to keep their farms, businesses and family homes and forces them to sell in order to pay the estate tax. Enough with class warfare…. There should be NO DEATH TAX!

    • I had a tad of sarcasm in my post. And now the government is backing away from AIG's bonuses, but I don't think laws will stop this current administration. The first president to "fire" the CEO and Chairman of the Board for a corporation? I don't remember that ability in The Constitution! And I am aware of Texas succession, I think a few other states are working on the ability to secede or at least refuse some of what Obama is doing by asserting the states' rights of the 10th Amendment.

Flat tax, no income tax and a sales tax across the board, 5% sales tax, 10% flat tax. Is it so hard to comprehend?

" Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in the world nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes."

They are just like vampires……coming up with ways to drain the last drop of blood, or dollar out of the American people. You can work all your life, and now instead of your family receiving the fruits of your labor…..the Government wants it….and THEY WILL TAKE IT!

has anyone ever seen the movie 'Senetor Obama Goes to Africa'? I watched it before the election and now with the all this money flying around, and what he said today (we are part of the world communtiy) how much cash has he sent to africa? did he have it planned out before the election if he won?

    • glenn21701 says:

Did he have it planned out before the election? Yes, he absolutely did. Check out his Global Poverty Tax Act.

    • KhetaAmenti says:

Yea but it's not his money. When he went to the village where his grandmother lives, to do research for his book, he promised that he would send money for various village projects. Guess what Mr. Millionaire Obama sent nothing. The School didnot get running water and the orphanage closed down. Of course, the main stream media never reported this. An english newspaper reported it though.

  60. As everyone knows, we are fighting a well mounted, powerful money machine and we need to start thinking about how we can come up with some funds to counter it. Glenn's program will certainly help but there are still a lot of people that don't watch FOX. The 2010 election is not that far off and we need to start working on the replacements we hope to make and then support them. I am thinking of a nominal fee of something like $1.00 per week per member. Over time this would amount to a good sum and we could invest it wisely in advertisement for the new candidates. Am I rushing things a bit? Seems to me that we could start forming committees to begin looking at the candidates that we believe should be replaced as well as finding their replacement. Wouldn't this be the perfect place to work out all of these details?

Buffalogal: Give it to her before you die. That's what my parents did so my sister got property, house, cars, everything. They transferred it all two years before they passed away last summer. They also gave her several powers of attorneys for different issues. This was a great gift they did. She is now set for the rest of her life.

  62. THE HOUSE JUST APPROVED THE "PAID FOR PERFORMANCE" BILL. Now congress can set the pay for "ALL" workers period!! Including yours folks. You wanted change, WELL U GOT IT!!!!

  63. That is what I heard as well. $3000.00 for each household, and don't forget the increased energy costs will affect businesses as well, causing many of them to raise their prices. It's the liberal version of "trickle down economics"…trickle the burden down, into a never-ending spiral of economic despair, so we citizens become ever-more dependent on govt. Cheery thought, huh? :-)

Let me give you guys a little perspective on this death tax. I am a second generation small business owner. Most of my families assets are tied up in the business. When my brothers and I started taking over the business from my father, my mother was in her high 50s and had already had a slight heart attack. She was uninsurable from a life insurance stand point. There was a big hole in our planning before we ever got started. To try to make a long story short, my father passed away in 2002, long before we were able to fully buy the business from him. As a result his shares in the business passed to my mother tax free under the marriage exemption. No problem right? We just keep buying the shares from her. Well two hours after my fathers funeral my mother was in ICU with heart problems. We almost lost her. If we would have lost her we most likely would have lost the business he had worked his whole life to build because of the death taxes. I thank the Lord my mother is doing very well now and the transfer is almost complete but that is how this unfair tax can distroy family farms and small businesses, which are the back bone of our economy.

wasn't the same thing tried in the late 20's and early 30's if memory serves me I have seen documentaries deplicting that bankers and the goverment tried to prop the stock market up until they had no more capital to invest and most of them went broke

  66. I can't believe our questionnaire is asking for two 6 year terms for president. IT SHOULD ONLY BE 1 – six year term.

  67. Bing says:

The Fed (they have control of the money & the economy) will run this country into the ground if BO doesn't go along with them. This stuff has been going on for a very long (the begining of our country) time. The President is just the one stuck with trying to explain this to We the People. The Fed has put many Presidents in BO's position. The Fed uses their money to control Congress too. The Fed is having money printed out of thin air. I never implied this was BO or his administrations fault. He simply sold his sole to the devil. Many of our government officials have.

  68. wgillies says:

Since when is the government allowed to benefit from the work of its citizens? Any taxes taken from the people are supposed to be equally apportioned not illegally confiscated. Sounds like the government is afraid of the prosperity of its citizens. That is why is punishes success. Since most of the people that make up our population have a great work ethic and work hard for what they have, why does the minority or those who want something for nothing seem to get what they do not deserve? Why does the judicial branch not stand up and decry the unconstitutionality of the IRS and tax codes as they exist? Where are the leaders who believe in prosperity rather than slothfulness? When does it end? When nobody has anything?

Not sure if this has been brought up; the energy tax. Heard on the news and hope they misquoted the figure, but they figure it will cost each household $3000 per year. Has anyone heard anything different?

    • Islandsox says:

That's what I heard, $3000 per year per family. Guess we need to go back to wood stoves and to heck with the trees and emissions.

I am a Hoosier form Indiana. Illinois has one of the highest rates of malpractice costs in the nation, not because of poor or substandard care, but simply because of your laws about damage awards. In Indiana, there is a cap and hence we don't have the volume of health care related nonsense lawsuits that you do in IL. At one time I considered getting licensed in both states. Then I found out how risky it was and how much my malpractice insurance would cost and said, thanks but no thanks. My grandparents and folks lived in Joliet IL and my brother still provides health care in Chicago. My husband is a client of the Westside (Jesse Brown) VA Medical Facility, Lakeside and Hines. One last question—did any of the physicians involved in your mom's case know her before her admit to LTC? Also, did your mother have an advance directive and proxy? There again, physicians who don't know the family and have little clue as to what the patient might have wanted for themselves are forced to give the MOSTEST Care, not necessarily the BESTEST Care. Work carefully with the facility adminstrator and be clear about helping all concerned know your mom from your point of view. One final thing that might 'humanize' and set priorities of need for your mom is to conduct a 'life review' with pictures, stories, little bits of anecdotal evidence about what kind of a person she is under that dementia. If you don't know anything about those things. find out about your local Alzheimer's Dementia Group. It really does help to share your experiences and your concerns with others who've been there and done that. I am sorry I was rought on you. I just really need for you and perhaps others to understand that in many cases, health care providers are not at all being greedy or unwise.

  73. Kinda, like credit cards!!! But who doing the spending. The FED, or the socialist government?

  74. The government, and tax collectors, have historically viewed as the scum of the earth. (reference: The Gospel reading of "the Publican and the Pharisee"). Today, the atheistic socialist government (the USA is already the USSA ; we've just crossed the board) views citizens it's property – and our wealth – their's. With no God, there is no morality – and no conscience.

  75. "but the only media we have now that's not 100% propaganda TV is Fox. " – Well, a bit of hyperbole – there are sources of truth, but the problem is that "truth" is often defined by what you believe. With free speech as the standard, there are now many "truths" to choose from. The problem – there is only one truth, as many falsehoods masquerading as truth!

Journalism (after science failed) was supposed to be the guardians of the truth, and were believed to be as such – although they never were. Journalist have proven themselves to be nothing more than tools of hidden interests (and beliefs).

i will never have enough money for this death tax to effect me but i think if you work for something its yours and if you die and want to leave it to your children, it should go to them not half of it to the government, the government didnt earn it and isnt really your uncle sam.

  77. Bob_E says:

    jhoski,

I've been a supporter of the fair tax for a long time now, I just wish more people would hop on the bus. Huckabee is a big supporter but I dont think we was able to educate the public very effectively, I think there is a real lack of understanding about it. The beauty is it is simple, everyone pays by what they CHOOSE to consume. Also, eliminating the IRS removes the second most expensive agency in our government, second only to the armed forces. For the first time ever we would actually get the illegals to pull their weight. If we arent going to stop them from coming here they should atleast pay up! It will even allow us to collect tax money from tourists to the US from other countries. Studies show that the tax money that would be collected will FAR exceed what is being collected today, and the payout for each citizen will be FAR less.

  78. TPrakope says:

My disclaimer is that I am a proud conservative who does not agree with the death tax in principal, especially when you pay tax money on your estate throughout your lifetime. However, there are several legal arguments to consider that do hold some water such as when you die, you are no longer afforded the "rights" of the Constitution since you are dead and dead people have no rights. Therefore, Constitutional arguments are hard to prove under the 8th or 5th Amendment. I hope we keep fighting the "liberal feelings" arguments with solid facts and reason. Ultimately, it will be reason that prevails. Thanks for reading.

  79. TPrakope says:

I urge people to read about the subject, if it so interests you, to not fall into the same pitfalls that the liberals do, which is to play semantics with words by calling it "the death tax" and making emotional arguements instead of factual ones. I agree with many here that it just doesn't seem right to have your estate taxed after you die, but the argument against it has to be more than "it just doesn't seem right." Compounding to the problem, is that the facts about this tax is that it really doesn't effect average citizens. So the liberals and socialists in this country make valid points when they claim that Republicans and Conservatives have been duped into advocating for a position that does not benefit them but benefits the rich. However, the liberal/socialist always doubts that doing the right thing means doind what's best for ones personal interest and cannot understand that conservatives stand on principal and the principal that we stand on is individual property rights given to man by God and not our Constitution. They cannot be taken away by man and his laws. Even in death.
