It doesn't surprise me that they have changed the name of the World Trade Center. But we the people have to remember September 11, 2001. That day effected everyone that loves freedom. So they can change a name but they can't take those feelings away that we felt on 9-11-2001 or the days following that day.
Once again, we've sold ourselves to the Chinese and just insulted all the lives lost on that dreadful day. I do not believe that the American people have forgotten how it felt on September 11. Our Government and leaders have. Shame on those who made this decision.
I feel that the name change meerly for marketing purposes is a slap in the face to the people we lost, and those who responded that still suffer to this day. Just because it's PC doesn't always mean it's right.

Having read the dispute here, all I can say is that we all should remember one of the most important things about being an American…."I may not agree whith what one has to say but I will fight to the death to protect the right for him/her to say it." Attacking another personally does not give rise to illumination on the subject but only serves to distract from genuine dialog.

I realize my views are in the minority here, but so were yours in the last election. Being in the minority should not be an acceptable excuse for censorship.
Sadly, the principles of the First Amendment are not being honored here. The administrators remove posts that the majority disagrees with, not because they are rude or uncivil but because they do not parrot the crowd.

I think the name change to One World Trade Center is a mistake. Our country stands for Freedom and Liberty and we need to keep those principles in front of the public as much as possible. The decision makers at the NY Port Authority have forgotten who they were on 9/12 and are selling their birthright for a few pieces of silver. Why not have the naming rights go to the highest bidder (since it is about money) and let the American People participate? That way the NY Port Authority wins financially and the American People win by principle.

I joined the military after 9/11. I felt it was my duty to protect the American people. I have learned a great deal about how are government doesnt think the same way. It all started with the refusal to fund the soldiers with what we needed when we needed it. I was wounded in Iraq in 2005. Because of those wounds I am unable to serve any longer. However I have never stopped fighting since my return home. I am not fighting terror now I am fighting the VA. I have been fighting for proper care and help. I am still not getting it. I am not alone. I see WW2, and Vietnam veterans still fighting also. It discourages me to see this happening. So they want change well its not happening. Change would mean they were honoring promises made not breaking more. STOP STEALING OUR RIGHTS!!!!!!!!

How quickly we forget…This may not seem like a big deal to some folks, but to me it is huge. To me, re-naming the tower is an expression of the lack of respect our nation feels toward freedom. Ben Franklin once said "Any society that would give up liberty for security will deserve neither and loose both." I guess 9-11 did seperate things to different people. To us, it increased our resolve and love for Liberty, to the others, it increased their need for security. Some of us have forgotten what it is to be free, and embraced salvery instead. What will it take before the others awake? When will we forget about legalized marijuana, and free cable, and see that our republic is at stake? How quickly we forget the lessions, the emotion, the clarity of right and wrong. How slow the process will be to reclaim what was lost.
3/28/09 UPDATE FOR “THE PATRIOT MARCH ON WASHINGTON, 2009”
First off, we appreciate everyone wanting to get involved in support of this march, Thank you all very much! The amount of emails that are coming in is getting overwhelming, but we are not complaining. We want to answer every one of them.
Here's what's going on:
We have been doing a lot of research this weekend, and have been talking to a lot of people. We have came to the conclusion that we may not be able to have the march on April 30th, but hope is not lost yet. The amount of work with getting permits, insurance, legal issues, and other issues for getting a march in DC is staggering to say the least. There is a ton of red tape involved. I think it is sad that we have to go through so much of that "red tape," but my wife and I want to do things the right way and the legal way. We are working Actively with a group that is working hard to help us with our goal, and they want this to succeed as much as we all do. I will keep everyone updated on this when we get more info. We are still hoping to get a march going some time soon.
We did get some great news this weekend though. A person who emailed had us get in contact with Michael Brewer, National Chairman of The Moderate Party located in Washington, DC. They want us to join with them for their march "The Great American 500" taking place on June 20th, 2009 (this is the date of Obama's 500th day in office). We like the idea of joining them, because they have had time to get everything needed for a march like this. They have all the permits in place, insurance worked out, and all other issues that go along with this. They are also working with a major nationwide chain of hotels that will be giving everyone discounts for staying there while traveling to the march, and when we get there. They are also talking to businesses in the DC area about discounts on food. We talked to Michael for quite a while yesterday, and we really like what they have set up. Hopefully you all will agree about our group combining forces with them.
One thing that this will give us all is some choices of what we can do. If we get our march set up in time, people can go with us then. If we can't get our march set up, we have the other march as a backup plan. And, if things work out, we could try to go to both marches.
We'd like to have all your input, but the only thing we ask, is please wait until we get the website up and running to let us know what you all want to do. We will be able to communicate better when we can be abe to get more organized. The web site will be a tremendous help in this area.
Speaking of the web site, we will be talking to the person who has it set up today. We will send out another mass email letting you know when it is up and running. It should be going in a day or two.
We also have had someone step up and has designed an awesome flyer for our efforts. This person has done a great job on it, but we will be getting hold of this person to do a couple more for us. When these flyers are done, we will be posting them on the web site for everyone to download.

This annual event is sponsored by La Raza, the latino non-profit lobbying organization that receives FEDERAL funding and worked on the housing programs for immigrants to have homes, MEChA, LULAC,SEIU, and most left wing socialist movements in the U.S. . People are bussed in by the thousands , thanks to grants to these non profit organizations from tax dollars.
First they take away the apt expression "War on terror" and now the "Freedom Tower"… I HOPE this CHANGE is reversed! It seems they keep trying to play down the whole situation. I have said for 30 years that we live in a Democracy of Communist. Think back over that period and list all the Rights and Freedoms of choice that have been taken from us. Suggest a large piece of paper.

I agree that it seems very strange that the name of the building is change all of a sudden when the first tenant happens to be a Chinese firm with ties to the Chinese government. i alo think it is strange that the most repressive regimes in the world make sure that they have the word democratic in their names.
I guess this decision has nothing to do with the huge Chinese firm that has agreed to lease over 190000 sq ft of space over 6 floors. What a joke, we are changing the name becuase it may offend someone spending a lot of money. Just me assumption, and yes I will stick to my assumption until the truth comes out. I know what happens when you assume, but it just seems like a coincidence that a Chinese firm (China is still communist) has been the first to sign on to rent out 6 floors of space and now they decide to change the name.?!??!?!!?! Dear BenGleck, I did not get the chance to read your original post so I can't comment on it's content. I do agree with you that you have the right to post your opinion, no matter how contrary it may be to my opinion, as long as it is not vile or obscene. That being said…I believe the change of the name from Freedom Tower to One World Trade Center dishonors the memory of all our brothers and sisters who died in those towers that terrible day. The purpose of this site is to embrace the sense of outrage, anger and unity of purpose so many of us felt on 9/11. We are allowing the core principles of our Country be eroded in the name of political correctness. This isn't about Democrat or Republican, Conservative or Liberal, this is about our countries survival. For the first time in my life, I truly fear for the survival of the United States of America. I believe if we continue down this path of societal entitlement, socialism and political correctness, our country as we know it will cease to be. We can't let this happen. Right or wrong, warts and all, the United States of America is still the shining city envisioned by President Reagan. Without the United States, the world is destined for a dark period of history. Understand, there is nobody out there to pick up the gauntlet if we lose our way. It's us or it's chaos. We have a responsibility to the world to continue as that shining city. When the world criticizes us, we need to be staunch in our beliefs. When doubters suggest we should embrace European principles remember, it was those principles that prompted our founding fathers to create a new nation founded in personal liberty and equal rights.

I don't live in NY. I know that the people there have to look at that gaping hole everyday and 9/11stands in the minds keenly. I definitely think a part of it does need to be a memorial, for the innocent that perished on that terrible day. Still, a tower needs to be build. NY real estate is high, and we need to show the terrorists they cannot beat us. Not yesterday, not today, nor tomorrow. If there is enough public outcry, then a name change could be in order.
I thought the same thing. Economy always has it's up and downs. The best bet was to let it play out. Let's be honest, though–it did begin under President Bush. It's been compounded under President Obama, though.

I actually wish they wouldn't delete you, so we could understand a bit better what garbage the other side actually believes these days…
About the "covert" agent, Valerie Plame, who just about everyone in DC knew was not "covert", it's been proven time and time again that her husband lied about many of the facts regarding that case. I am actually not a Bush fan. He drove me out of my mind. I AM a conservative, and the one thing Bush did well, was keep us safe. I was also against the war from the get go, thinking it would be not be a pretty situation, and I think I was right, BUT MOST of our government thought they had the weapons of mass destruction, including many leading democrats, so pinning that squarely on Bush is of course, a bit of a stretch. The buck DOES stop with him however, regarding the Iraq war, so criticism, when honestly thought out, is warranted, but now the buck stops with Obama, so you might want to get used to dissent against him, unless of course he decides to bring back the "fairness" doctrine like the true socialist he is….

This name does not honor Americans at all and it sure says nothing about what happened on 9/11 or what we all felt when it happened. It is also disrespectful to the original Trade Center and the Free Market Capitalism that they stood for. Contractors hired by the state department. Now I was in Mogadishu when they drug our soldiers remains through the streets there. Were they "Contractors"? Nothing is FREE! In one way or another we pay for everything. Freedom tower just sticks in my throat. Freedom had nothing to do with either building the original group of buildings or in destroying them, they never belonged to the World but they did have much to do with Trade and they were a Center. So I believe Trade Tower or Trade center is just fine.
As I recall, at the beginning of Iraq there were international civilians and military personnel being BEHEADED with no remorse.

Lets look at the proposed new name for the "Freedom Tower",
the One World Trade Center.
Sounds alot like a place where one global organization can regulate global trade.

In reading the article, seems the problem is that the ADDRESS will be 1 World Trade Center.
Therefore, patriotic New Yorkers need to petition their local government to change the name of the STREET to 'Freedom Tower'. Then the port authority can call it whatever they want, but the address will be 1 FREEDOM TOWER.

Changing, or dropping, the word "Freedom" from the new tower is just an act of some cowards who go by the philosophy of Rodney King…remember him? "Can't we all…just get along?" It's just another way of pushing 9/11 further out of the collective memories of Americans. Pretty soon no one will remember. I for one am looking up anyone's e-mail address in the Port Authority of NY/NJ and will let them know what a bunch of cowards they are. The Twin Towers should have been rebuilt just as they were anyway (with upgrades of course) just to say to the rest of the world that they can knock us down but we'll stand right back up.
