Perhaps this woman should worry about fixing California before she worries about the rest of us. The biggest misunderstanding about health care is that Americans cannot afford health insurance. The truth of the matter is that we cannot afford health care. If doctors were not buried in bureaucratic paperwork, then health care would be reasonably priced, and health insurance would not have to be so expensive. Trickle down economics really does work.
When is this all going to stop. I am starting to get as frustrated as everyone else. Our financial system is a wreck, and they are working on making it a bigger wreck. And now, it is a must to get another government program up and running?
What is going to be the straw that breaks the camels back?
Amen.
I am not obligated to think in terms of 'societal needs'. My job is to see to me, and mine (within ethical, moral bounds, of course).
If you give me one verse that says every person is to be responcible and provide for themselves, I will give ten where we are directed to reach out and help other people in need, often if they deserve it or not. Remember the story of the prodigal son?
You probably haven't been to the food stamp office in awhile. Most of the application process is done online these days, and the food stamp allowance is put on a debt card that is automatical recharged once a month. There are no lines of people waiting around anymore, at least in my state.
Actually, I have to go into the Federal and State office buildings quite often and walk past both the welfare and food stamp offices on many occasions. I stated what I see on a regular basis. I do not think that a person who can afford designer (FUBU, etc) clothes, gold jewelry, late model cars, and cell phones to be people that need a hand out. Also, the debit cards .. people still have to go to the office to sign up, to continue their benefits, etc.
As to the Bible, what version are YOU reading from? The Comrade Marx version? Mine, in 1Timothy 5:8 states: "But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." Seems pretty clear to me! Those that are able-bodied (as are many who collect welfare and food stamps) are commanded to provide for themselves and their family. Period.
BTW .. you DO realize that the Prodigal Son's FATHER was the one who forgave him, right? You seem to have a very convoluted interpretation of the Bible.

Thanks! It helps me to visualize what you may have been through in your life. At age 49, you probably were immunized against most childhood diseases and probably have not had any major health problems at this point in your life. You also were raised in an educational era where you learned things from teachers and peers about the environment, government, and community different than what I did and certainly different than what my husband did, who was a child in the 50's. You've lived in relative peace, where you didn't have to concern yourself with being conscripted and had relative prosperity and opportunity like America has never really seen before, so we might not be talking the same language because of a small generational gap and perhaps a cultural one, as well. I went through the 60's as a Billy Ayres style hippie (in fact, I think I met him once right before the days of rage in the Chicago suburbs). I am appalled at what I once believed about my country and my countrymen. The older I become, the more conservative I get and the more I realize the folly of my youth. In fact, I just got off the phone talking to my only son who is despondent and desperate about his own financial situation and had to give him a pep talk about why he needs to have faith, keep trying to find work, don't give up yet, and don't do anything criminal. He is no young pup, either.
In a way, I am lucky. I am old enough to have heard the horror stories first hand about the Great Depression and WWII. I am old enough to know what happens when citizens start attacking each other, even in gest, when so many are trying and failing. I am old enough to know the real costs of war and the real costs of ignoring conditions that lead to war (and that isn't always about poverty, but more about power), and I am old enough to have given the best years of my life to helping real people in times of great crisis and change when their health needs seemed overwhelming. I may be despondent right now about my government and my career, but for the life of me, I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather live and grow old. It IS worth fighting for and helping out. It is worth sacrifice and putting the self on the back burner and putting the principles of liberty on the front, so that guys like my son can see the light at the end of the tunnel and keep trying. We are all really so blessed and so free! Really, we are! All of us are! We just have to utilize that freedom well and exercise it like an athlete's muscle or a well-made machine. If we don't, it rusts and decays and becomes worthless. And when our liberty is either gone or worthless (which it is in jeopardy now), our very lives become meaningless and purposeless. Both of us are worth more than that! Please keep in touch.
People who live in socialist (not communist) counties have been health care, better, school, and lower crime rates, fewer teenaged births. It varies country to country, but many socialist counties have lower drug and alcohol problesm, lower divorce rats, and the parents of children are more likely to stay together.
They changed the stuff they put in aerosol products so they wouldn't eat out the oozone layer any more. One of the last hold out wasr asthma inhalers.
My favorite slogan for this subject : If you think healthcare is expensive now, wait until it's free. I don't know if anyone had this up here yet, so I thought I'd add it.
56coop sent posted this message about Richard Burr:
"I just heard the funniest thing. Richard Burr of NC justreceivevd a $5,000.00 political contribution from Bank of America. Money they got from the bailout. (Actually, I guess it's not that funny). Another way for the banks to spend the money doing everything except what they are supposed to do–MAKE LOANS. As a matter fo fact it seems the banks being bailed out have been making quite a few political contributions.
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2009/03/27...
So when you send your email to Sen Burr regarding the health care you might also want to add that you are curious about his morals & motivations and that your vote will be changing come next election. IF you have any senators or congressmen in your state I would sugggest sending them an email of disgust"
So, here's the Ethics committee list: (It's disappointing to see who's on this committee!)
Boxer, Barbara (CA) , Chairman
Pryor, Mark L. (AR)
Brown, Sherrod (OH)
Isakson, Johnny (GA), Ranking Member
Roberts, Pat (KS)
Risch, James E. (ID)
They are also doing this to hide the other parts of the Healthcare bill – namely the VAT (also known as federal sales tax) that will be in addition to state and local sales tax. That is the tax increase on the 95% of America.
Ronald Reagan warned us about this almost 50 years ago. He said, "one of the traditional methods of imposing Stateism or Socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It's very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project. Most people are a little reluctant to oppose anything that suggests medical care for people who possibly can't afford it."
The devil knows how to play the game.
Yes and so do taxpayers and the good.
This is The United States Of America not the republic of Obama.
They run their American made limos, American made air conditiners, American made lawn mowers (oh no illegals probably run those) OH YOU MEAN PROGRAMS!!! silly me…. THERE AREN'T ANY!!!
The post office is THE prime example. Complaints about the post office always give me the opening to remind folks of how inept the gov't is at running something. Even though is is considered public/private (it is supposed to be self supporting through its postage rates and services) I'm told they need Congressional approval for virtually everything.
Maybe if Pelosi uses the US mail to introduce her health care bill we won't have anything to worry about.
And hopefully it will go out as "junk mail"….
Have a great day.
Would her 'plan' then be considered 'mail fraud'?
I am one of the senior citizens. I pay 98.00 per month out of my SS check plus 56.00 for the advantage plan. I read where the insurance cos. said they would reduce the employer premiums if they would make it mandatory for everyone to purchase insurance. I remember when they did that on car insurance. It was not long until premiums looked like Gores hockey stick. I also owned several businesses over the years and the employer matches the SS and medicare payments. People forget that SS was set up as a TRUST. Our fearless leaders saw all that money coming in and could not keep their hands off of it so they BORROWED it. Makes you wonder if SS would be in trouble if it was invested as was supposed to happen.
I'm sorry NurseNancy. I know you mean well but what you're proposing is a horrible idea. Not only is it wrong it would endanger the lives of the people you've intended to help. It's my opinion that anyone of those people in the healthcare industry who go on strike should be fired on the spot and have their license to practice revoked. Doctors take an oath….regardless of what's going on, that still means something.
This is part of a series of actions that prop each other up. Take one down and the rest folds like a cheap lawn chair.
What funds universal health care? Cap and trade, a punishing tax on all business and and anyone who uses electricity from carbon based fuels.
What is the basis for touting universal health care? It makes our businesses competitive with foreign ones as they no longer have to pay for employee health care. Think about that.
The money will not come from thin air, but will come from tax revenues. The costs will be passed to the consumer so we're right back to sqaure one, so to say it will make business competetive is a straw man.
The cost of future entitlement obligations are about to explode as baby boomers retire – 10k each day. We can't afford Social Security entitlements down the road – how can we afford universal healthcare?
Both universal health care and cap and trade – they are linked! – are attempts to control access to both through regressive monetary policy. Neither will affect the rich. This is a slam dunk on middle class and poor people.
"PATRIOT MARCH ON WASHINGTON, 2009"
After viewing Glenn's show Friday night, my wife and I decided we needed to take his advice about what he said.
We need to march on Washington, my fellow Patriots! We need to do this now instead of later. If we wait much longer, I'm afraid that we will not get the opportunities to have our voices heard on the steps of the Capital, and in front of the gates of the White House. It is time to get ACTIVE!
We need to do something to stop what is happening in Washington, their agenda that they are passing is going to alter America as we know it, and alter the American Dream.
The original date we thought about doing this was going to be April 15th, but after thinking about it overnight, we decided to change the date to April 30th. We changed the date for a couple of reasons. Our original thought was to have this march in place of the various Tea Parties around the nation, and now we realize this would be a huge mistake on our part. These are already set up, and they need to happen. We can get our word out at these gatherings, and let people know what we are planning. We also need more time to mobilize the groups of people who want to make it to the march.
The response we received from our posts yesterday were phenomenal! We have received over a hundred emails and responses. Please keep them coming.
We received an email from a person last night who has already set up a web site for us to organize this historical event. It will be up and running hopefully late Monday, or sometime Tuesday. I will let everyone know when it is up and running.
The site is http://www.912action.org/
Please use this email for correspondence until then – marchonwashingtonnow@yahoo.com
I will make a point to answer everyone's email sent to us, and keep everyone updated on what is developing.
We know that Barb and myself can't organize this alone, and we are going to need everyone's help for something this massive. Any ideas, thoughts or plans are welcome. We need help with permits, transportation, logistics, and basically getting everyone we know in this proud nation to find out about this, and to participate.
It is time now, for the patriots of the United States of America to protect our fellow citizens, our freedoms, our country, and our flag! We need to be the one's responsible for stopping the tyranny going on in Washington. Our brave soldiers have been protecting us for over 200 years, and it is time for us to pay them homage for what they have done for us.
Barb and I are trying to set this up, but it is not our march alone. This is your march, your family's march, and your friends march. Please tell everyone you know about this, and let's do this together, as a nation of free, peace loving individuals. We will not permit violence, weapons, or unrest to happen at this planned march, so if you want this type of action, please do not respond. This is a PEACEFUL march on our nation, plain and simple. We will not be firing the first shot.
Unlike Michelle Obama, I have been proud of this country since the day I was born, and I want to do everything in my power to get it back!
Let Freedom Ring, and in the patriotic spirit of Todd Beamer of flight 93,
Let's Roll!
You think so huh ? I challenge you to survey the 65 and over crowd to see how happy they are with their care. Many have medication costs that are more than their monthly income. They have to decide which medications they can do without from month to month.
Living close to Canada I get to hear how their system is not working.
Here are some of the anecdotal things I here:
1.) Just the other day a friend noted of a friend in Canada go tired of waiting for a Vasectomy and came to Michigan and paid cash to get it done.
2.) Another friend asked the specialist attending to his wife about Canadian patients in Michigan. The Doctor said oh yes they come here to get fixed what their system will not spend money on ( read hip/knee replacements etc, where pain is involved). The doctor then noted that they have to "clear the deck" for when the "Brits" fly over so that they can block three days for back to back testing and potential treatment/surgery because of the time issues.
3.) Michigan is a where they come to get fixed what their system won't do. Give us Obama-care and there goes one of the few growth industries in the State.
The question is, if the muck it up for the entire U.S., where do we go to get fixed what we used to do routinely here.
Health Care in America: One young physician's perspective.
We must make a clear distinction between “health insurance” and “health care” – with the former (as it exists now) being mostly a pre-payment for the latter. Unfortunately, the current debate on health care is solely focused on the “uninsured”, which is a product of medical inflation NOT the cause. The increased control of third-parties in the health care industry – with the intent of protecting people from any “financial” relationship with providers and “managing care” – is the true root of rising health care costs … leading to rising costs of insurance premiums … making them “unaffordable” on the private market. While the “uninsured” do have an inflationary role in health care, “insuring” every last American will not significantly reduce costs if the current system (controlled by public and private third-party payers) remains the standard.
Third-party payers account for 90+% of expenditures of health care. We can reduce the funneling of health care money through government and insurance companies IF we expand the purchase of preventive, maintenance and minor care directly from health care providers.
The relationship of "health care" with "employment" must be eliminated (of course, created by horrible legislation from Washington – see Wages and Price controls during WWII). Very few of us actually shop for the best insurance – and are stuck with what our employers provide or paying a "penalty" for purchasing privately. This has also lead to a reduction of choice (resulting in higher price and often poor service) from insurers. This problem can be solved by making Health Savings Accounts (or some other tax shelter) universally available (regardless of employment) – and make paying for all insurance premiums tax-free.
The issue of government aid is another topic entirely. If taxpayers money is used to pay for “health care” for the poor, it should be distributed as a “cash” benefit (similar to food stamps) that can be used to pay for health care directly and purchase appropriate insurance coverage. While politicians would oppose such a plan, the poor would receive much better care and not be subjected to the political whims of bureaucrats – while also reducing the tax burdens on those who pay.

Look I word in medicine. Medicare pays 2000 dollars to a cardac surgeon for a 3 vessel cardiac bypass. 4 hour surgery with almost a week of post op care not to mention rehab. Add that to 100,000 liability insurance premium, the fact that you dont make money until you are 34 or older, and you have a relatively miserable quality of life. Anyone see a problem here? These liberals love how crap sounds on paper but they lack the insight of how things are in the trenches.
several have mentioned Safeway and how they give discounts for not smoking etc. The discount cards we use in our supermarkets are being used in Ireland and other places to track what citizens buyt. The health care system in Europe is using that buying history to tell people they will not give them care for heart disease or high blood pressure etc. because they don't eat right. As Glenn has said we have to start looking past step one.____
Can someone please explain to me why this "fast track" exists and how it happened? If I remember the Constitution correctly, you need 2/3 majority to pass a law. How did we end up with this "majority by 1 vote wins" system?
Medicade and Medicare are total failures the financial Fraud is over the top $$ destroying the "system" the system was doomed to failure from the start. Now "universal" health health care fraud………….
I have read in various articles that if the Medicare and Medicade fraud could be controlled and reigned in (it's in the billions in each state), there would be more than enough money to cover more health care. Why don't we start there – even if we have to spend to modernize and control the current system. It would be money well spent instead of throwing tons more out to be squandered and wasted .
I am totally against government healthcare, but if they want to ram it down our throats, give us the private healthcare congress gets, why should we get less than them?
Here again the King Obama wants to dictate our lives. Heck, the guy wants ALL of our rights. He thinks Socialized Medicine is the best for us. Think about this:
My son is in England where socialized medicine is the norm. People must wait in line from 4 to 6 hours to see a doctor. You could die of a heart attack and no one cares. Arrive late in the day and you must wait until tomorrow. X-ray takes 2 weeks. It is unbelievable. My wife has worked for Wal-Mart as a head checker for years. She gets tears in her eyes when old people pay $300+ for medications and must buy a can of beans and hot dogs to eat. Doctors have no idea how much their prescriptions cost and don’t seem to care. Drug companies produce drugs by the Billions per day and charge outrageous prices per pill. It would seem to me that we need Doctors with more COMMON since and Drug Companies that charge reasonable prices. They just “Cry all the way to the bank”. Doctors and Drug companies could take Billions of dollars out of health care. Apparently, they don’t have any values.
Remember, King Obama could care less as long as he is in control.
If I sound upset, I AM.
Speak up everyone, we can still save America.
When America's population becomes too great, as has Britain's (according to their green team), then socialized medicine will be very handy for reducing such a nuisance of a population.
O.K. I have a question. For the most part all of us are on the same page. I have e-mailed my Senators til I am blue in the face. Zip. We are all over the U.S. so how do we as a group get their attention all at once. I know Tea Party is great but I feel that that does not bother them enough. In my state (Washington ) only one county (King) votes everything in or out.. The rest of us suffer because of that. Any ideas of how to change that and truely have a voice? I see the same thing here, we are all over the map but not enough to effect change that matters. I can't get Pelois out of office let alone my Sentors Murry and Cantwell. Understand what I mean?
Unless there are civil protests in Washington against socialized medicine, we may have to wait until the 2010 elections when we will have a chance to put more conservatives in Congress. Pelosi/Obama may get the green light to startup socialized medicine, but it can't be done in a year; it's too big. One good thing is Obama will get to see the downside to socialized medicine when he goes to England shortly. And one more thing: what happens if we don't sign on to socialized medicine?
That is very frustrating. I used to live in Washington (King and Pierce Counties) and also see how those living in King County seem to be the ones making the choices for the whole state. Oh, the rest of the state does vote, etc. but there is a larger population in the King (and Pierce, actually). The odd thing I found was that the majority of the people I met didn't agree with the decisions of the state. That is the type of thing that bothers me… how is it that the minority of voters somehow seem to get control of the majority by ignoring their cries for CHANGE??
If you look at the national electoral map it's mostly red – not blue. The rural areas are full of "the what have you done for me lately" people or the BMW driving elites who actually think that Government should be responsible for those who don't have what they do. – It's the folks how know that GOVERNMENT is and always has been the problem that are angry… we have 5,000 years of history on our side. – WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO STAND UP and EDUCATE those who are willing to trade freedom for a moment of security… otherwise America is lost. "Freedom is just one generation away from being lost…" – Ronald Regan.
This site alone has over 344,000 members and in a very short time. The problem is there is no one to actually take charge and bring the 344,000 together to act as a unit. It is great to have a place to talk and I appreciate having it, but it seems like it is going to turn into just another blog site. There have been a few willing to lead and have tried to rally people together but can't seem to get the attention of the members. I am sick of talking but that seems to be the only thing the majority are willing to do. I have joned We Surround Them hoping there will be a group of people there that will take some action. I want to be a part of a group that will take action..I want to help…I want to make a differance. I'll send my tea bag and I'll write the letters that are ignored but I tell you…the way this country is headed…letters and tea bags are not going to phase those that are hell bent on gaining complete control. We are going to find ourselves sitting at out computers talking and talking until it is to late. Words without action are just that…words.
Absolutely correct, I have seen too many things on a ballot get voted in or out just to have some judge overturn it and make it the way some not the majority wants it. It doesn't matter, there is a group of those that are in the right place of power that are going to ruin our country, our home. It's time to stop them. We need to take our country and our government back.
As far as Government Health care, well we have had that for quite some time and it's called the Veterans Affairs Health Service. Problems and conditions have been identified for years yet it continues. Why don't our politicians get treated at a federal medical facility instead of where they do, are they any better than our vets?
The timing's too soon. All we can do is talk right now and educate ourselves, participating in tea parties, phone calls, letters, and maybe… hopefully a walk on Washington soon.
The reality is that Obama still has the high poll numbers and the just as energetic grass roots followers. The thing to do now is keep doing what we're doing. This is taking its natural course as Obama slowly loses favor. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals but don't be blind to the reality of the situation. Do your part as much as you can.
We are still in the first 100 days of his presidency. We will only alienate ourselves if we start dehumanizing Obama and company now. We need to stick to our principles, transcend the petty politics of it all, and create a 'marketable good' to give people something to really bite into.
So far we haven't done so. All we have done is agree that we are upset and want the spending to stop.
Do what you can with what you got right now, and the best weapon is your education and civil debate.
Yes, it's too soon…. Patience it will happen
Recall petitions work and work well. If you initiate a recall petition it will tell you two things. 1-how many people are in your corner and want action and 2-gives you a chance to hear just what the other side is thinking and maybe, just maybe why they are thinking that way. If the people see how Chicken Little as gotten them lathered up without fact based info they will understand that when Crusader Rabbit appears on scene he or she is not there to save the day but is a mere point man for Robin Hood. I think PT Barnum said it best,"There's a fool born every minute and two to take him".
Bingo.
The only voice we have that truly matters is our vote! The midterms will upon us soon and this will be our opportunity to be heard.Remember G.W. on the fire truck after 911. "And soon they will all hear us"
Carol:
My idea is to get INVOLVED and stay in TOUCH with those that attend the Tea Parties and take it from there; take their emails and sign petitions together. YOU can do it! If you are shy, ask some of the speakers at the Tea Party to do it! Stay in touch and campaign for the right person next time. Offer you time to do this! Vote your senators out! VOTE THEM OUT! If we all do this and help others understand the danger path we are now led to, WE will win, together!
We do not have Acorn on our side, but so many Acorners showed up at my door last time to campaign for O. THEY WERE PAID to do so!
Well we talk and talk,I know I am the same way .But what are we going to do about it? We need a strong organizer, one who can join all the tea parties together across this country so that our Goverment will know that we have had enough not as a mob or a revolution but one loud voice ,so that they recognize the strength of the people who have organized against them ,because in strength we will beable to change the direction that Obama is trying to lead us into This will prove we are not as he thinks "sheep being lead to the slaughter"
The strenght of the people is present–we have to built on it. We have to unite and stand up! Meet each other, ask Glenn and Hennety and Rush for help, to let our word and voices come out!
The problem is that Unions are growing as a weed, the so-called charities (ACORN, G.I.V.E, etc) are growing as a weed, etc. They are sponsored with OUR MONEY to campaign against us! We must stand up and make them feel ashamed! They are all crooks! THere are 344,011 people here. We need to organize here, by state and city, and take it from there. Even if we have to lose some of our free time, it will be worth it! I am from PA. Where are you from? Let's meet and start ACTION!
I am from Mass.and am trying to find tea parties near me, I am not having much success.
How many people are ready to support organization finacially? I agree we need to link ourselves togeather? What would be a date suggested for a march on Washington. I am willing to start the ball rolling in this direction but these are questions that need to be put to the all of us who are of the same mind. So lets here some suggestions and take teh first step. Anyone willing to sponser the costs of the march? Anyone willing to devote time and expertiese in a web site to organize the march?……..I sugest Sept. 6th teh day before Labor Day. So i submit these things to all of you!!!!
How many lay-offs will come from the private health insurance industry? What financial cost to our nation of the nullification of millions of health insurance policies?
You voted for a Oligarchy?
I know what you were saying and I agree…..I have two cancers in the public school system for you…..UNIONS……AND POLITICAL CORRECTNESS……..this is killing public school system.
Setting up a welfare state is easier in European political systems, with their centralized governments and rigid parliamentary party discipline. All that the fact they haven't returned to the private system says is once a welfare program is established in a socialist state, it never goes away…
I was speaking from a taxed perspective. I know we are all basically SNAFU, but the IRS gets most of what it seeks.
I'm certainly glad I voluteered to put my life on the line for my country for a twenty year period. Yep, US Army vet… As a reward for my sacrifice, I get to pay less than $400/yr for Tricare insurance for me and my family. If I paid for my civilian employers plan, I'd be paying over 10 times this amount.
Now there is talk among politicians to raise our rates (suposedly to be more in line with civilian insurance rates..out of "fairness". Are they FOR REAL?!). Hell, all a Congressman has to serve is one single term and they have healthcare benefits for LIFE. Congress has the most generous plan in the whole country. Hypocrits! Now, it's like…Forget the promises… let's just screw the veterans…who cares that they signed a blank check redeemable all the way up to their life. If it happens, forget convincing young Americans to serve…maybe they could just get illegal aliens to join up to defend us, especially for the peanuts they pay the military.
"As for me, I'll just cling to my guns and religion, ready to use them both when the time comes." ~DonT
Amen. And we will all get to that age soon enough. As important as it is to have our elderly family members around to influence our lives in a positive way, so too will our turn come in the future. We have to stop this insanity. Principle #4 The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
Obama asked for a plan better than his trillion dollar budget. Then we the people should come up with one. I for starters would say first you have to listen to a different plan then sit down and talk to the people who are more intelligent than anyone you have on your staff. There are many smart people on this web site. Form ideas and get them to the tea parties. What is a good way to handle health insurance? what is a good way to handle the unemployment problem? Put it together and send it to Mr. Obama and see if he will listen.

Please don't talk about church with us… You are in love with the liberals–although they are baby killers. You must not be going to Church, if you believe everything the Libs tell you to believe. So, spare us the pain…
Stealing from those that are barely making it to give to the poor is not in the bible. The politicians and you should give up your own benefits, or share them with those that don't have them. We are already paying for ours and we earned it through hard work–so no, I do not want to share it with people that don't want to work. My husband is paying $6000/yr out of pocket–this does not include copays–for health insurance. So, he can barely afford to pay to support his family. Why should we pay for dead beads that don't want to work?
Welfare should be give on TEMPORARY basis ONLY! It is not HELP if it is given for a life time–it is indoctrination for the lazy.

The founding fathers did not live us with a country that they sold to China. They left us with strong values and a strong country. Distroying them will not bring us to prosperity. Debt is not the answer, and that should be a no brainer!
"To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it." –Thomas Jefferson
cal1178…..1 pack of ciggs per day. approx $220 per month. approx $3000 per year. That is the cost of insurance. I used cigg smoking to illustrate that we make choices and often people can find the way to pay for something if they need to. I am not specifically targeting smokers but smokers who complain about not having insurance really make me mad.
Well I am not sure how you arrived at approx $3000 per year for insurance, I was paying $550.00 per mo. for just me, that is $6,600.00 a year…then I went with a $ 3000 or $5000 deductible can't remember which it was, and was paying $350.00 per mo. $4,200. a year. again, just for me! How family's can afford these prices is beyond me…Again I say "It is Insurance companies that are the problem. Got nothing against Doctors and hospitals but it is an insurance driven business, and that is sad!
Why can't Ford contract directly with physician groups and take insurance agencies out of the equation? Why do we have a 3rd party payor system that acts as an intermediary and skims from the top? Because this spreads risk. If a company of say 300 workers contracts with a medium size group of doctors and 1 patient needs a heart transplant. You might as well close the door. Helath care insurance insures both the patient and the physicians/hospitals as it pools risk.
cal1178…here is an earlier post of mine, and I think a pretty good look at what
insurance companies are doing…
I saw that Dr. on TV, what a great idea! I have long wondered why Doctors and hospitals do not charge the un-insured the same payment they accept from insurance companies…I have suspected that insurance companies dictate to Doctors and hospitals what they 'have to charge the un-insured,' why else charge them full boat? You know as well as I do that insurance companies have become great negotiators and pay a mere pittance of the actual billing, We pay a deductible and sometimes a co-pay, but all in all no where near the original billing. If Doctors and hospitals would charge to the public what they accept as payment from these companies…We would either no longer need insurance, or the premiums would suddenly become affordable. It seems to me this has all been manipulated by no less than Insurance companies…and now, apparently backed by government!
And yes, that would be pretty cheap insurance.
Dont forget that President said he was open “all serious ideas,” which includes taxing employer provided healthcare! How is this not going to drive non-government run insurance companies into the ground?
" The country’s 46 million uninsured" rather than the "46 million uninsured Americans"! Is there really 46 million Americans without any health insurance? Are the "illegal" visitors being counted in this number?
Yep. You know it. Does anyone think for one minute that if, upon arising from a good night's sleep, I found an 'illegal visitor' sitting at the breakfast table, I'd start cooking his bacon and eggs? It'd be time for 'Molly to get the mop' , if you get my drift…
I think our government read it backwords. Do you think they have dyslexia?
LOL Have a great day.
I think so. I like the statement about (THE PIANO WIRE )LOL.

Subject: CruiserCT replied to your comment on SPEAKER PELOSI IS ABOUT TO INTRODUCE GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH CARE
We have govt. run health care , it;s called the VA. When it works to the satisfaction of ALL Vets, then maybe we can talk about it. Right now all that money could go to the VA. It might be enough.
no….what happened in November is a clear example of how this country has lost its way. We elected an Actor, a fraud, a fake, a cult of personality, a liar, a cheater, a socialist….and it is OUR fault. I didnt buy into it, I didnt vote for him but I didnt do enough to make others see…we as a nation didnt do enough. Many bought into the hype, the lies, the spin the "white guilt" and all the other buttons that the left used to make this happen…and yes, those on the right did it too..Bush helped cause this, and the Repubs, and McCain. I am not with any party but I admit I have always voted Republican at the National level, but not at other levels. I have always voted for the best person…and while I am surely not a fan of McCain for President. I felt he was and is an honest man that loves America, and let me say this clearly…Obama does NOT love this Country…he says one thing, and does the other…we voted in a person who HATES what we have stood for and is plan is to change everything that is great about this nation. We MUST stand up and stop him…hold him back until 2010 and finally 2012…FREEDOM WILL RING when he is gone.
I am an American citizen who recently lived in Europe for three years. I must tell you that health care for all does not mean quality or timely health care. In Europe there is still a "class" division in the delivery of care. The doctors work for the State during the day seeing common citizens in public hospitals and work at night for the wealthier class who can afford extended coverage in private hospitals. I had the unfortunate experience while I was there of having to go to both the public city hospital and later a private one. It was the difference between a run down highway motel and the Ritz Carlton. A person only has the choice to enter one or the other if one happens to be wealthy. We must try to defeat any legislation for government run healthcare here in the US. (FYI – I was in Europe serving my homeland)
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has introduced legislation that would "bar the dollar from being replace by any foreign currency." A statement from Bachmann's website:
“Yesterday, during a Financial Services Committee hearing, I asked Secretary Geithner if he would denounce efforts to move towards a global currency and he answered unequivocally that he would," said Bachmann. "And President Obama gave the nation the same assurances. But just a day later, Secretary Geithner has left the option on the table. I want to know which it is. The American people deserve to know."
Jesus did not steal money from anyone; The Gvt. is doing it! Gvt is not Jesus–it does not heal anyone for free. It takes from those that still have something, because of their hard work, and gives it to those that don't have the motivation to succeed. Jesus was a carpenter, he was not on welfare.
We can't set up a foundation, if we are BK. The Gvt. is BK the country and us. No strong foundation can be built on debt!
If you call this success, than I'm sorry, I can't have a reasonable discussion with you.
I also had the privilege to study some of his programs and the gross violations of fundamental, natural human rights. If you're a positivist, which it sounds like you are, then this means nothing to you, because rights are relative to societal needs. Me on the otherhand, I enjoy equality in the eyes of the law.
It is proven fact, and FDR admits, though not in the public arena, that he wanted his New Deal to reflect a 5 year plan. He even sent delegates of intellectuals of certain fields and academics to go to Russia to study their 'successes' (to which the Regime had hidden it's slave camps).
No, I choose to read between the lines of history, not just the New Deal and recognize the patterns. Positivism seems to be your teacher
These criminals in Washington have theirs. Now they want ours too. What we will end up having in this country is an even worse health care environment and more of a tierd system. The rich/upper middle class will be able to afford the the Caviar plan while the others will have McDonald's. Which one will Nazi Pelosi have?
If you have any doubt what our Nation will look like in the future simply look at CA. She has done such a great job there. I'm told you can't undo what they start, well hah! I'm looking for leaders who are not going to create new and more laws. I want a bunch of people that will go to DC and start abolishing the laws of the past 40 years.
Not blaming you Think. WE NEED TO TEACH THESE PARENTS HOW TO FISH INSTEAD OF GIVING THEM A FISH FOR A DAY. Until we do so we'll be spinnning our wheels in the mud. Let's get to the root of the problem. Keep up the fight!
Amen Brother.
Yes if teachers would spend more time teaching math, science or English and less indoctrination of political parties into grade school kids maybe they would be more prepared. This happened to my grade school kid, a history teacher held mock election so she could single out kids and tell them why Obama should be elected.
I have heard different stories than you. I heard that the reason the unemployement started back up after 1937 was because FDR was listening to his conservative advisors too much and he cut back on New Deal programs.
I agree that Depression era unemployment never got below 10%, but that is a big decrease from the 25% unemployment when FDR became president.
Centerleft, I think the difference is that you have heard different stories and I have read the history books. Here are the unemployment rates and dow ratings:
1927: Unemployment: 3.3%
Dow Jones: 155
1928: 3.3%, 168
29: 5%, 343
31: 17.4%, 140
32: 22.9%, 93
33: 23.2%, 90
34: 21.2%, 100
35: 21.3%, 119
36: 15.3%, 182
37: 15.1%, 179
38: 17.4%, 121
40: 14.6%, 151

Social medicine has many negatives. In Japan, over 79,000 patients were refused emergency treatment because the hospitals were full, including pregnant women. Many died as a result. Ambulances would call up to 15 hospitals, only to be rejected. We will have less doctors and nurses because the government would dictate they salaries, but not pay their malpractice insurance which cost over $100,000 per year.
I don't think the constitution is a piece of crap. I do believe it shoud be interpreted in light of moderne realities.
Just like it was interpreted in 'moderne realities' of the early 1800's to provide and encourage the use of slavery.
No, centerleft, when you use this 'modern realities' terms, it's just avoiding the issue: majority rule based on the mob mentality. Another words, relativity defined by the majority.
Our founders, when creating the Constitution, had a clear set of principles to which they were following after. These were studiers of history, philosophy, human nature, and natural rights. They sought to create a sustainable doctrine… not one that is linked to tradition, but one that is linked to a universal principle– that we all could live by our own principles so long as we didn't directly violate others.
"Modern Realities" implies that the constitution is relative, and that humans can evolve past these principles…. eugenics
I am from Delaware. Why do we need to push this Universal Healthcare Program so fast? I personally am not so sure what is in it. I guess that is what our elected representatives want for us, not to know. Don't blame me I did not vote for B.H.Obama, nor Joe Biden VP or Senator, he was running for both, nor Tom Carper.
Can't we have a few states try the Program for a few years to see if it works? I uess not. Obama is so obsessed with being our Messiah then what is actually best for the country as a whole. He is evil.
Sen. Harry ("the Iraq war is lost!") Reid, come on Nevada, vote this ass out of office!!!
Speaker Pelosi, well what can I say, she's from the Bay area by way of Baltimore (her father was mayor), she can afford socialism, her husband is a multimillionaire.
I thought we have been fighting against Socialism/Communism in hot wars and cold wars, now our own Government wants us to surrender. Krushchev said it, "we will bury you".
Me, me, me, me!! Myabe some people are not as smart as you. Do you think this means they should not get treatment when they were sick. Jesus healed anyone who asked his help. He never made them prove that they were oh-so-worthy and smart enough to deserve health care. People should follow his example.
actually He healed according to their faith, faith is action. When you read they all had to show forth faith whether it be seeking him or obeying Him. Free agency is our personal liberty and that is of God. Whether it relates to medical or not.
……This is my "reply" to myself………..it's sure be nice if the "client" would let us know when our mesage is too long before we click on "post reply"………………As it is now, if I HAD to have a colonoscopy, I could receive it within, probably, 2 months (I'd "get the money" from extra work and relatives). As it would be, via National Healthcare, it'd probably be closer to 12 – 18 months before I'd receive one, IF the govt would approve it….I probably wouldn't be "deemed" worthy….I'm 37, smoke and have a history (grandfather-paternal) of death-by-heart attack in my family. Check your facts and educate yourself…..Please! The government should NOT decide WHAT healthcare we receive. WE should. AND, government healthcare is NOT A RIGHT granted to us by our constitution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wake up America! The gun ban is already starting right under our noses while our time is wasted "debating" bonuses for Wall St. Check out H.R. 45 – the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009. Go to http://www.washingtonwatch.com/bills/show/200513260.html... This Bill is a complete abomination of our Constitutional Rights. Another website to find info on bills is the Library of Congress, and go to the "Thomas" section (for Thomas Jefferson). You can check on bills currently in Congress. WE MUST FIGHT!
What's up with the teleprompter? Glenn Beck uses a teleprompter to read his rants about Obama using the teleprompter too much. LOL
When I do public speaking, I use notes or prepared text. Most people do. Obama knows that he is being taped every time he speaks in public, so he uses a teleprompter so he doesn't have to look down at his text. What is so bad about that?
When Obama takes live questions, he doesn't speak as fluidly as he does on the telepromper. Again, that would be normal. Most of us are less eloquant when we speak extemporaneously than when we speak from prepared texts.
Write your reps and Senators pronto. Obama wants to dump the dollar and sell us out. Support HJ RES.41
1. H.J.RES.41 : Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to prohibit the President from entering into a treaty or other international agreement that would provide for the United States to adopt as legal tender in the United States a currency issued by an entity other than the United States.

This is very important and I have already sent my representative a note to support this bill. With Geithner stating he is not in favor one day and then chaning his mind the very next day, this needs to pass. With China, Russia, France, and even Tony Blair indicating that this might be needed for a recovery, we can not let our soverign rights be influnced by any outside nation other than the people of this great nation. Heck people, this is what we fought for over 200 years ago.
The real threat is not to the healthcare system but to what little power We the People have left.
The Constitution gives a limited list of power with anything not covered going back to the states. We have a voice at the state level. We are closer to the lawmakers and they come out of our communities. The states citizens know what is best for their wellbeing better than anyone. We do not have the representation on the Federal level that we are supposed to have. Congress has been overtaken with an army of 35,000 lobbiests, all working to put taxpayer money in someone elses hands. How in the middle of all those rich donors will our voices get through.
Since the founding of our nation, the members of the Federal government have whittled away the power of the states to control wealth and minds in this country.
If we stand for this alternative healtchcare choice plan, it is one more nail in the coffin of our rights to set the laws and policies of our own state and Washington will be just that much more powerful.
Stand up for the right to make laws that affect our own states and rip the stolen power the Federal government has taken from us, away from them.
