For the last two years this Congress has been a complete joke. Nothing they come up with will ever surprise me. And how they can hide behind the "antitrust" issue as the reason they are even looking at this. They are simply trying to make everything fair everywhere. If they keep focusing on the stupid, like they are with this issue, they are going to find themselves on their way home. We simply cannot put up with this anymore. Our Congress focusing on this when we have people losing their jobs, countries threatening us, and rampant disenfranchisement growing is just disgusting and insulting.
I'v been trying to get people interested in making use of our first amendmentright to petition the government for redress of grievances at the class action level. I think with the internet and some key people like Glenn Beck and Mark Levin this can be accomplishedas a nationwide class action petition. But so far just to, for now, open up a disscussion about this idea seems fruitless. People want to whine and cry about whats going on with the constitution but when asked to step forward to do something about, it seems they have a football game or american idol to watch instead.

Only 1/5 of the spending bill is going towards "infrastructure". Wasteful infrastructure too. Eq. a bypass tunnel under a train track that would stop traffic twice a day. 15 mill. wasted. The "create jobs" part is gov't jobs. Again unproductive, wasteful, and would only continue if funded again. I don't agree with the Bush spending either and we should of got out of the war when no "weapons of mass destruction" were found (mission objective accomplished then get out). Tax cuts have a multiplicative effect and create Sustainable employment. All the money spent on the war over 8 years is still not even 1/8 the spending bill.

Our tax money, next how we can or can't use all our money. Requiring youth to "learn to do service," then requiring them to do such service, as was the original intention of the bill concerned. Takeovers of newspapers, including telling them what they can and can't say; next are talk radio (in the works already) and TV including the news. Telling us what we should call things like the war on terror oops sorry overseas contingency operation, then telling us what we can and can't say. What kind of guns we can have then no guns. What color of car we can have, then what make and model. Where we can set our thermostats, then how many blankets we can have.

President Obama articulated on many occassions during the presidential election that he would lead a transparent government. Lets help President Obama meet this commitment by creating a 912 Project section titled "Hogs at the Trough". Basically, this would be a list of our elected and appointed officials that have been compensated with consulting fees, speech fees, BOD fees, real estate benefits, lobbyist fees, etc. by businesses (US and foreign), foreign governments, individuals, organizations, associations, etc. etc. The purpose of this list is to see "who is in whose back pocket".
Hog = the elected or appointed political official – Democrat, Republican, etc, and position
Trough = the name of the business, lobbyist, foreign government, etc. that paid, donated, or gave $$ or services to the "Hog", date of transaction, and what the "Hog" did or will do for the $$
This would be a consolidation of many reports and sources. My Dad used to say, "money makes the world go around". A consolidated list will expose who took what, why, and result.

THIS IS WHAT WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HATCH! I am probably one of the biggest college football fans around. I love it! I can't get enough! I think we need a playoff system. I cheered when Utah (my home state) won the Sugar Bowl and showed that there are other college football teams other than the BCS teams that can be national champions. But why is congress concerned about this. Isn't there other pressing matters? Couldn't the…..I don't know…. NCAA take on this issue? Call me Crazy.

I agree that the BCS system is flawed. My team got left out of the championship in 2004. It needs to be fixed BUT NOT BY CONGRESS. Again, here they go getting in our business when they need to be taking care of real issues.
College football especially in the South is important. I get it and live it, however, there are much more important issues such as THIS OUT OF CONTROL SPENDING BY CONGRESS AND OUR TRILLION $ DEBT THAT IS GROWING BY THE MINUTE.

Frustrated that I couldn't post my two cents on the wish list…I agree with term limits, the fair tax ( consumption tax ) that shouldn't be more than 10% ( If the Lord only requires 10 percent, the government should require not a cent more.
To add to the list: separation of school and state. Get government out of the education business. Then most schools will have to respond to the parents demands instead of faceless people in Washington.
Unions should be illegal for government jobs.
Prison reform, no tvs no porn or magazines. Just books to help them get a degree, high school or college, but they have to pay tuition by working 8 hours a day ( which also pays for their clothes, food and lodging ).

People are concerned? Finally? Perhaps Financial Regulations would help. I'd disagree because not only does it take years to come up with what might regulate current financial problems, financial gurus will come up with new ones. Regulations on finance have been tried before. Take a look at the tax code. Even better, take a look at the court cases leading up to the regulations to the Tax Code itself outdated by the time they got introduced to IRS Agents. By the time Obama and his Cronies come up with some sort of cobbed out set of regulations, they will be applicable only to nonexistant financial instruments. Moreover (after Wall Street stops laughing) financial wiz kids will have found so many loopholes that giant earthmovers couldn't plug em fast enough. I should know. I use to create financial instruments. GubberMint (reference to the Carter years) cannot do anything about finance or Wall Street. They can only pass laws to screw things up. Makes no difference whether Dems or Publicans are in charge, politicians cannot help. They can only harm. That's another problem with Obama and Company. He hasn't learned and politicans cannot see cause they're essentially blinded by greed.
On the up side, no one can argue that this Congress has done a great deal. In fact, they have managed to destroy what has taken 200+ years to build in just one sitting. Who says Americans aren't hard working?

Don't presume to say what other people do when you don't know. I force myself to listen to Obama even though he's boring, can hardly talk with a teleprompter, and says mostly either "comprehensive," "contingency," "Bush's failed policies," or "the failed policies of the past". I force myself because I know I need to be informed, and try to be "fair and balanced."
How you can say that with Obama "there is nothing about me." That's all he's about. His policies, his agenda, his constant TV appearances, town hall meetings, radio shows, etc etc ad nauseum. The man is a narcissist.

My problem is that I HAVE LISTENED to Obama…the problem is he never SAYS anything with substance. He talks in generalities. Just like his last press conference. When asked about his proposed budget, and the impact it will have on later years, his response is that he will continue to adjust the budget as needed. He says this after stating that we can't have short-term prosperity at the expense of long-term growth. To me that is double talk. If you know up front that long-term growth is jeorpardized with the current budget, (which is obvious with this scenario) why move forward with the budget? He is proposing to do just the opposite of what he stated earlier…but I'm getting used to that.

These are the kind of people that earn a few dollars a year, are subsistence farmers, or live off the grid entirely. They don't 'choose' to live anywhere. Choosing where we live is a first world concept.
Choosing where we live isn't quite what I was getting at. If they are Chinese nationals, they made it a pretty long way from home. If that's the case, it took a lot of money and motive to get there (which is what I would want looked into). Either that or they aren't really Chinese nationals at all, just Chinese heritage.
I'll concede that if what you say is true it wouldn't be quite right to hand them over to the Chinese.
It's a PR nightmare for any administration to bring anyone back from Gitmo into the US. So you would have to imagine that they would try to find other places for these people to go. But it takes two to tango. And while we want to give them away, the other country has to be willing to accept them. And we have precious little political leverage with the Chinese in particular.

We're in are in agreement 1Redneck, remove it and I’d like to make a suggestion about “trolls.” Another 9/12er (Bust It) wisely suggested using the term “petrock” instead of “troll” due to the fact that in leftwing blogs Lib-bots already use that term extensively to describe anyone who disagrees, dissents with, or opposes anything lib-bots post and promote. It seems to me that 9/12ers deserve some originality in their phraseology, we‘re supposed to be leaders not followers.
As for me, I certainly do get a kick out of the sounds made when “petrocks” are chucked into an old rock crusher. I don't know why they were held after having their charges cleared. Ask Bush. It was our mistake, we should take responsibility for it. Or do you not believe in taking responsibility for your mistakes?
If they were innocent and actually picked up mistakenly or because of false information and detained for 7 years, then yes we do owe them something. But if they were picked up and held because they pose a threat, but are being released because the case against them wouldn't hold up in a US courtroom due to a technicality, then we owe them nothing. I won't pretend to have enough information to decide which case this is. Let me ask though, what do the people who brought them in feel about their being a threat?
What puzzles me also is what they were doing in Afghanistan. The place doesn't strike me as huge tourist attraction.
As for why they were brought in. They were sold to us for $5K a piece by Afghani warlords who assured us they were taliban. When they were just a pain in his butt that he wanted to get off his land.

Depends on what you spend it on. The Bush administration and the Republican congress cut taxes and increased spending. And the stuff they spent it on, like he Iraq war, was a complete waste. Infrastructure, which is what Obama is spending the money on, creates jobs.

It was created to provide a forum for open, honest discussions. Personal attacks are neither. They only discourage discussion. I believe the ease with which we slip into personal attacks is one of the reasons it is so hard to find a good discussion in the country. While I firmly disagree with most of your viewpoints, I respect them. Your ideas, like mine, are protected under the Constitution and therefore you are entitled to think and express whatever you wish.
Now on to my points on the topic listed at the top of the forum. I believe there are some things which government should be somewhat involved in; providing a currency (not market manipulation), keeping me safe through diplomatic and military means, and providing a good infrastructure. The government must keep their fingers out of sports unless it involves a legitimate criminal activity. I do not believe for a second the BCS creates anti-trust issues. Is it a flawed system? Absolutely. Are there alternative that would serve the fans better? Most certainly. However, let the NCAA and the university presidents handle it. Fact is, college football TV ratings and revenue have never been better. Until the ratings and revenues drop, the BCS will remain. Congress needs focus on issues that actually mean something.
Chuck, go buy us all a few cars and houses, you can charge it off to you future generations, we know they are good for it!!

The other 20, out of the hundreds you refer to, were picked up, yeah it took a long time to discover that they were innocent, but they were found innocent. In combat, it's really hard to sort through things, so they were picked up . I would rather we do due diligence in determing their innocence or guilt, as at least 61 who were released turned right around and died in their quest to see Allah, ven killing US troops in the process. While I sympathize to some small degree with their captivity, I shed tears for my brothers in arms who have been killed by those that we released. I have heard that disingenuous remark that "we made them commit these acts" but that's BS. Camps Xray and Delta did not create what was already present.
I'm glad to hear that you acknowledge their innocence. Do you still want to keep them out of the US? Don't you think it's our responsibility to correct our mistake?
