Do they really think that if they rename things that the suddenly change the meaning? In doing this all they have done is made us look like we are declaring that the war is over. The biggest mistake that was made in the 90s regarding terrorism is that the terrorists were at war with us, while we were not at war with them. We have gone full circle and now we are back to that. I think it is bringing us down a very dangerous path. Not only do the terrorists hate us, but now they are probably laughing at the phrase itself. These people hate Americans, and so we give the war a touch up with a warm and fuzzy phrase? Oh, good, they'll take us seriously now. Not only that, does the word "overseas" imply that the risk of being attacked at home is gone? And what really is the operation contingent on? What in the world does this phrase mean!
This is just more collusion. Giving things long, bureaucratic names doesn't grant us more respect from the global community — it makes us a laughing stock.
Whatever this Administration wants to call it, the terrorists still consider it a War, and will continue to fight us like a war.

My own word game: I've taken to referring to the president as Mob-O to rhyme with yobbo (a link to the class war he's stirring) and because his actions have convinced me that he is indeed organized crime at its best. And also 'cos Rush accidentally butchered his and Mugabe's (Zimbabwe's version) names the other day and came out with Ogabe. Priceless.
This man is a definite test of our moral fiber. Hang in there comrades. Keep the faith.

Democrats/Liberals have learned nothing from that outrageous atrocity. They can change the names and play word games, but they can't change history!
It is a matter of concience. Think back to the 1960's The Hippies of the day, aka war protesters, they did not want the thought of kids their age's blood on their hands. They refered to the war as a Police action.They didn't want to protect the freedoms that allowed them to protest. Now 40 odd years later those same Hippies, are the generation that is in control of our government. Why should we expect a different response from them? These people are cowering to world opinion, NO SPINE TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT! Just go with what ever seems the easiest no matter what rights and freedoms are lost. Everytime we do this we crap on all of those who sacrificed to make this country the Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave, or well it used to be. I am proud of our men, and women who still serve and those who want to serve.
This is what I am afraid of. If we are back to that mind set then we will be back to tying the hands of our military, making it much more dangerous for them. I'm afraid of the same mentality that caused Black Hawk Down.

Overseas Contingency Operation is offensive and scares me! I am afraid of water so overseas is no good… I used to be a part of a contingency group so I don't like the whole group profiling thing…. Oh, and my mother had an operation and they are very very scarey! This is not politically correct and my feelings are not being considered! Someone call BO! this may be off the subject but Rahm and Timothy both look to me like two of the most untrustable people I have ever seen.
I think there are a few from the left over Soviet Union that got in on student visas via pakistan when Barry was taking a sabbatical. I'm sure the state department has no record of them though. Or birth certificates.

How can anybody want to soften the image of radical people trying to kill us and make us stifle our own way of life. Yes people, that is what they do, and the media is part of their plan. They want you to be afraid to go out and live your life in a way they are envious of (but claim it as the spread of their own beliefs). We need to know what it is, and we need to keep each other educated on what it is. We have an amendment that deals with freedom of speech, as much as I could not stand all forms of media constantly Bush bashing in anyway they could, it was/is their RIGHT. These things start small (like telling you what you can or can't label something), but have the potential of turning it into what is ILLEGAL to say or express. Terrorism is terrorism, and that is that. The men and women of our Armed Forces have FOUGHT a Global WAR on TERROR. Its not just another deployment or operation, its for our freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and the bill of rights. Let's not lessen their sacrifice or the dangers that we as Americans face from people of all radical beliefs against us. If the president can offer "diplomacy" to Iran on YouTube, anybody, from the pentagon to a pizza parlor, should be able to call terrorism what it is–TERRORISM

This is straight out of 1984 new speak. I haven't listened to Jerry Doyles show in some time but I would imagine he must be bringing up the similarities between what is happening now and what happened on Babylon 5 with the Ministries of Peace and Nightwatch with their good speak.
I hate to think what it would take to change this administrations decree that the War on Terror is actually a OVERSEAS CONTINGENCY OPERATION. If their home was buning down, and they had to warn thier family, would they whisper, WARMTH, or would the actually cry out, FIRE!.
If we rewrite history with new vocabulary, then what does that make the American Revolution, the Civil War, WWI or WWII? I am sure that the individuals who fought in these wars, as well as other wars, did not view them as a pleasantry. As an Air Force vet, a war is a war is a war. You fight to win – not to lose. My son-in-law had to go before a board in Iraq to justify using his weapon in self defense. Maybe this is how we can change the name because we are not allowing them to fight a war.

I think PC stuff is distracting, causing people to be afraid they will offend someone. It also tries to devalue dangers and threats–along the line of not wanting to offend.
PC also causes people to be divided: into all the little groups…race, gender, ethnical background, religions–honestly I worry that all the division is our largest hurdle in united behind the 9-12 principles. Sadly, I even see it on the boards here, and not just from 'trolls'.

Gee, do you think if we call all the terrorists and tell them "we are not going to call you terrorists anymore so will you stop trying to kill us" that will work. God, if it could only be that easy. That would be so wonderful. I don't think these people (Obama, his cabinet and most of congress) live in the real world. It is so assinine. Clinton did nothing when the towers were bombed the 1st time, or when the USS Cole was attacked, never mind all the embassy bombings. What did we get for it – 9/11! As a disabled Veteran with 26 years of service myself, twice wounded in combat. I see this change affecting the troops over in Iraq and Afganistan very badly. No more combat related anything! No ratings from the VA for any wounds, loss of limbs or awards. These young men and woman serving now will be hung out to dry.
It is more than just a word change…..To all our young men and woman serving it is a major change in they're lives. Getting wounded in combat over there will be a life sentence of trying to cope on your own. I could see a lot of people refusing to go over there and take that chance. What a Horrific thing to do to the very people protecting they're rights in Wash.DC to be complete morons. God watch over our troop because your leaders do not care!

Changing the name for terrorists to what the Obama admin wants to is sort of like calling a radical islamists be-heading a BAD HAIRCUT!!! OOPPS!! My rusty, dull knife slipped. If you have the fortitude to do so you should watch something like that that and see how brutal and barbarian those people are. You will never get it out of your mind! And Islam is a peaceful religion??? If the majority of those in Islam were serious about that belief then they would put an immediate stop to it, they do outnumber the radicals. As asinine as I think it is to call a war on terror an "Overseas Contingency Operation", there is a reason they are doing so. I'm just not certain what that reason is. Any ideas on what is hidden up the sleeves of the people who came up with this? It's certainly not just for political correctness. There are definitely going to be some changes to this whole operation to coincide with the name change.
Don't you see? King Barry is ending the War on Terror like he promised, and is replacing it with the Overseas Contingency Operation. See, an Operation is much nicer and shorter than a War. And Contingency, well, that word is so generic that it could mean anything, but it has to be better than Terror, right?

The best thing Democrats have had going for them is that most of the American public is too busy to pay attention to their antics…till now. I work at a government job in a division where I am the only conservative and have been unable to get my point of view across for the last fifteen years. Now things are different, they are listening to me now, they are awakened by a fractional reserve called 401k and 403b. The beast is awakened but in a severe groggy state with much to absorb in a short period of time.
Please think about what you are saying. This is exactly what the left did to President Bush. They demonized him with comparisons like you just made. I beg you not to do that on this forum. We can win our arguments without these kinds of attacks. I understand your frustration with the subject here, but we need to pursuade others with thoughtful ideas void of this kind of name calling. I don't want to see this forum end up like the Daily Kos. We will lose our credibility and others won't want to join the project. The left will point out these kinds of comments to claim we are haters and dividers. They will be much more afraid of our movement if we show that we remain respectful but strong in our disagreements.

We're going to save the word "terrorism" for the domestic types. You can bet that any type of domestic terrorism will be called what it is, but let's treat muslim terrorists with kid gloves. Maybe then they won't be so angry with us.
I have heard here in Michigan the State Police operates a database (they seemingly have a database for everything-except for mayors) for "potential domestic terrorists. Criteria include owning a firearm, being a registered libertarian or voting for Bob Barr, belonging to a militia, etc. I will try to confirm its existence.
