Legalizing marijuana is not a viable solution. Again, a short term fix for a long term problem. And Mexicans crossing the border have been dying in the desert for at least 20 years, without a fence. I grew up in Arizona and have been hearing about Mexicans getting lost in the desert and dying for years. A fence would actually slow the flow of illegals, and thus decrease these deaths.
Mexican migrant workers are not the only ones crossing the border. The border must be secured. I do agree with you that the immigration process must be reformed. The problem is not the drug trade or migrant workers –those are the symptoms. The problem is there is no accountability or security at the border. When those issues are addressed, the symptoms will fix themselves.
I agree with mariasampson. The state of California is thinking of legalizing marijuana, not for any other reason than to get Tax revenues. How stupid

Galland, I could not reply to your post so I will do it here. You can not say "remember the Alamo", if it has not been taught to our children. Our kids are learning what Social groups want them to learn and nothing more. Just ask a high school kid something that transpired in our history, and you will get a different view of just how we remembered it.

I took both my boys to San Antonio Last fall so they could see what remains of the Alamo today. (They were astonished at what remains of the old mission/fort, which started a whole other conversation about city growth, population growth and the history of the Alamo after the battle . . . ) I know that they were both hoping to see the fort from the movie's fame and all but later in the week we took the 90 minute ride to see the fort all the films were made at. They both came away with a sense of deep appreciation of the sacrifice made at the original mission. I'm 46 . . . . and it still moves me.
You're right about kids being taught what Social groups want them to learn. Two years ago my kids were claiming that the Pilgrims came to America to escape religion and make money. I almost went bald (pulling my hair out) trying to explain that it just wasn't so and that they, the Pilgrims, came here for Religious freedom. Profit incentives came much later. Ugh!

You're right Aileen R. Now try convincing La Raza and Reconquista of those facts. I deal with they and thier ilk each day here in Arizona. They seem to believe that they have a natural right to come here and have thier way and do as they please since they don't really recognize the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed in 1848. This treaty ceded to the United States the land that now comprises the states of California, Utah, and Nevada, as well as parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado. Mexico also renounced all rights to Texas.
I agree things need to be done now. Border wall a joke, drug runners already use tunnels. I think we need to focus on getting our government back on the right road. It seems they are run by special interest groups, to many soft headed people in office that are only interested in their financial futures. So how do we get our point across? How do you argue with or convince an individual that is selfish. It's like trying to educate these genius's that say guns kill. And before you start guns are a tool like knives and baseball bats. Hmmm where are the movements to ban knives and bats.
Our leaders seem to have gotten soft, afraid to step on toes. China needs to keep its contaminated crap and our factories need to come back home.

1. If they have some much pride why are the coming here? If they have so much pride in their country they should be fight for their rights like we do here. It seems that 18-24 million are trying to be a part of the United States.

I agree with you – we should offer up new ideas as avenues to finding solutions. I am only posing the objections to each point.
1. When you say "they" you are really talking about a country of 100 + million people. Even if we take the high number of 24 million that want to come here, its just under 25% of the population. While this is a large number, it would never be enough to vote for a drastic change like this. Also, I think a good percentage of those trying to get into the U.S. would oppose this plan because of their national pride. If you seek to better your life by moving to another country (legally or otherwise) it doesn't mean you are forsaking your own. Would you not feel sadness for the U.S. if the tables were turned? If Mexico wanted to take over our country because of this problem? I believe you would, I know I would.
2. You are right – Americans are against the current situation, and they want a solution. But I feel that the majority would not latch onto an idea like this. It would bring down the country even more than the illegals who are here now do.
3. I think a legal limit to the nationalities allowed citizenship each year would definitely be a smart idea. But that doesn't solve the problem of people coming here illegally.
4. I personally find our immigration officials to be rude and condescending to foreigners. It is a very big problem that needs to be corrected. They act as though they are God in the decision of whether someone should be allowed into our country. This mentality is a deterrent to all immigrants who wish to come here legally.

I could go on and say allot of facts, but that’s not what I want to say. Lately Mexico is slowly being taken over by the Cartels. It is a possibility the government could be over turned in the future if the Cartels keep warring.
What would happen if we went down to Mexico and asked the Mexican government if they would like to become an American territory like Puerto Rico? That way all the people here in the U.S. would also become U.S. citizens if they go back to there birth place and register for citizenship. The New Border would then be at Guatemala and Belize. We would go down with our army and help the Mexican Government clean out the Cartels and get rid of the drugs that are causing all the problems.

The fence is great for the first line of defense from illegal aliens. Here in AZ, we have passed laws that go after employers that hire illegal aliens, the penalties are stiff and harsh if caught. I am a contractor here and I have been landing more projects, due to the fact that some of these contractors I have been competing against were using illegal aliens, paying slave labor salaries to these illegal aliens, now sheriff joe is under attack by the fed's for enforcing our laws, this is absolutely crazy. We need a national employer sanctions law, now, to deal with this invasion. You stop the employers from hiring illegals, the illegals will go back home. Ask a cattle man!! I am Not one but I know a few. and have had some cattle. If you want to keep your cows in a fence, you must keep them Well Feed and watered. The problem on the border is that people can cross the border and earn more money here than they can in Mexico. "Greener grass on the other side of the fence" If we can stop this. This will be a deterent. Fence Crawlers . Ask a Cattle man. Some Cows always seem to climb over fences. Electric fences seem to work for those. A two layer fence with a restricted zone between. Backed up with a Vehicle Access road running parralel. Seems like a Good anology. The more you work with Cattle the more you see the similarities between them. The Ultimate answer is to make the conditions on the Mexican border so great that the advantage of crossing is reduced. However reducing advantages on this side of the border so that they are less than the southern side is a Reduction of our oppurtunity. I Sincerly Hope we ca Avoid that!!

I'm afraid you have your ideas wrong as well as your numbers. First Mexico has a huge drug problem of their own. It is rising at an alarming rate. Mexican drug consumption is 25% of the U.S. and rising faster than our drug use is, especially meth (fastest growing drug in Mexico) Next I have no problem letting in Migrant workers. We can raise the amount of labor coming in, but that is another issue. First we have to have all immigrants accounted for upon entry. Open borders in this day and age is an invitation to all of the terrorist and gang members to cause untold choas in the U.S. Another point about the drugs, we will never and should not ever legalize meth, cocaine, Heroin.
Build the border fence, spray the brush, send the troops. Everybody comes in the U.S. the right and legal way.

Simple soultion I've mentioned before for a border fence that would be a whole lot cheaper to do. Multiple rows of consertina(razor) wire laid the entire length of th border. Then have posted guard towers about every 100 yards. Inside the towers the guards would have total night vision capability and a DIRECTED ENERGY WEAPON!! This is proven technology that exists and has real stopping power even at it's low setting. The worst injury so far is minor burns sort of like a sunburn. Zapp a few aliens trying to cross the border and stop them in their tracks. Word gets around and soon the flow of crossings is reduced. Course the ACLU and Nancy piglosi will probably think we're violating their rights. They don't have any rights in this country as illegals!!
Good survery. but i think for my personal view on term limits, we should keep them a year and if in that year their report card is poor vote them out. If the report card is good them keep them another year. It's also a good way of disciplining ourselves to pay attention to what they are accomplishing and not accomplishing. A lot of damage can be done by one person in a year vs. checking up on who's minding the store at least yearly.

All term limits are is a band aid, something to put on the problem so that we can go back to sleep, and believe me, if they pass term limits we will all go back to sleep only to get reawakened when things are but – much like now.

I live in Az, and Napolitano was soft on illegals when she was the govenor , it was a local joke that she became head of Homeland Security . How can she address this issue on a national level when she couldn't or wouldn't do squat here at the local level. I think it's all a smoke screen. The government just wants to delay things. The number of illigal imigrants having children now is more than other groups in this country. If you just wait the right amount of years those children will be a huge voting majority in this country. Considering how long this has been happening in some places the wait will not take too long. Folks, resign yourself to the fact that most of the people that are currently representing us, have no desire to stop illegals from crossing the border. As long as businesses are willing to hire them, with no consequences, as well as free medical, etc., allowing anchor babies to legitimize the rest of the family, the border will never stop the entire flow of illegals.
As most issues, only until we identify and vote in individuals that believe in the Constitution and its laws, will illegal immigration be stopped. Then it needs to be determined how to deal with the current illegals that occupy this country. This should be our goal.

The numbers getting free medical care from medicaid are pretty large. As the funds from medicaid are used up for the, the less is paid out for patients that I transport to and from their doctors appointments. Guess what happens to my job then. Not to mention to the patients who need to see the doctor.
I do not believe for a minute that this Administration is trying to get "tough" on the borders. There is another motive for this just not exactly sure what yet.
Maybe it is to make the journey, for illegals, coming across the border more pleasant or something. Maybe they will have the border patrol handing out sandwiches and bottles or water.

I believe that the Administration is using this platform to undermine and destroy the 2nd amendment!! I agree with lining the border with mines. While I understand that Mexicans are humans too, it is not the United States' responsibility to cater to anyone and everyone that wants to enter our country. If they want to enter the country, then they should do it legally…and learn to speak English. It is amazing to see the costs that companies must pay to provide multi-lingual phone systems and interpreters. If they want to enter our country so badly, then they should be required to speak English, salute the American flag, and pay taxes.
Personally, I don't think mines is a good way to go. Potential for too many innocent American's to get caught in the fields, unless obviously marked "Danger: Minefield. Don't go past this line". Great idea, but it could send the wrong message.
I think that chain-gangs would be a better way to go. Military basic-training work hours, 16 hours of work and 8 hours of rest. Peanut butter sandwiches and water. Basic medical attention, cuts and bruises do happen regardless of the job a person does. Split guard duty into three 8 hour shifts so that the work gets done, everybody gets rest and the chances of more illegals sneaking in drops,kind of hard to sneak past if the area is lit up like the super bowl (and for my perverse pleasure, it'll use soo much energy in the process).

They aren't going to pay taxes or contribute to society in any way,and they will be sending their money back to their country, so all they would do is take up space,jobs, and suck up more government resources. A helluva lot–the poll in Bergen County, NJ alone was an investigation of illegal ballots. They found that 80% of the ballots in that county were BOGUS! Not to mention how many ballots of our military they must've just dumped into the ocean. Check out YouTube and look up court hearings and testimonies of witnesses testifying as to the tampering with election booths. There are employees of election booth companies being subpoenaed in lawsuits from the last presidential election as to their knowledge of voting booths being rigged. So, forget whether the illegals are voting or not. The illuminati will get what they want no matter what. As far as I'm concerned, the people crossing the border, into our country, illegally are not "migrant workers".
They are "illegal aliens" by entering into our country illegally.
These illegal aliens are a drain on the economy and the legitimate American taxpayer.
These illegal aliens do not pay taxes yet they get health care, child care, housing, jobs, education.
They get more benefits than many legitimate American citizens.

I agree there should be reform…reform as in ship all illegal aliens out of our country.
Require official photo identification such as a driver's license or an official State issued photo ID before any and all benefits (such as housing, jobs, education, etc) can be granted.

I feel that it is because of the millions and millions of illegal aliens all ready in this country that makes it hard to gain legal entry into this country.
By putting up a wall similar to the Berlin Wall (4th generation wall) it will act as a much better deterrent than the joke that is the current wall.

I agree with what you have to say. If they would have done something earlier maybe we wouldn't have all these problems with people coming here illegally and wouldn't have these drug wars going on. I also agree with ItsmeMSB. If you are not an American citizen then your child shouldn't have the right to become a citizen. Illegals have drained our system. They take our jobs, get public assistant and get medical benefits that comes from our taxes. These benefits should only be for Americans when they are have difficulties and there should be a time limit for them. You should not be allowed to continue to get public assistance for years on end and you shouldn't get anymore just because you keep having kids.

I mean, I can see how you think that you can strike a heart string by using this kind of example…Americans, through their reckless crusading across the globe, 'saving' everyone from themselves, policing the world…entirely ignorant of the fact that our Founders began this nation as a reaction to that kind of meddling, warning us to not do the same… It's easy to see how you might think we should feel obligated to 'save' your little country too. Unfortunately, most Americans are too busy watching reality TV to even know who the Founders are let alone anything they might have said, to know any better.
I live in Yuma, AZ about 1 mile from Mexico. I have a few friends who work at CBP. When asked if the fence mattered my friend told me that 2 years ago there were 400-900 apprehensions a day! since the fence it is down to 40-50 a day. On a related note the school system is cutting teacher positions because of funding AND a reduction in over 400 students due largely to immigration enforcement. I have no ill will towards the Mexican people but Milton Freidman once said that a large Welfare State cannot exist in a borderless world (or words to that effect).

Parts of the fence aren't even a fence. My brother-in-law worked on a section south of Tucson before the old president left office. This section lies on the Indian reservation, which straddles the border. The tribal members are allowed access to both sides of the border on the reservation without any Border Patrol checks. This is to ensure that the treaty is not violated. Every so many feet a gap was installed. This gap was not wide enough to allow large vehicles to pass, but was large enough for ATV’s to go through.
Exactly! The United States is pouring money into illegals only to have them send money back to their families and suck our system dry. The Mexican government needs to take responsibility for its' own people. Mexico needs to capitalize on its tourism market, its factory labor, resources, etc. in order to boost its economy. If it were known for having clean water, a police force/government that wasn't corrupt, and a safe place it would be booming as a tourism destination. Not only does it have nice beaches, but it has historical sites. The Mexican government needs to be independent and stop trying to milk us for all we have.
Our government is trying to take away health benefits from the military. With all that money we save on illegals that take, take, take, we could give that money to the military to cover health benefits for our VETERANS and the people who PROTECT us.
You ever been to southern Texas…they don't call it little Mexico for nothing. I work in the healthcare field, and I worked for a Community Healthcare Center. It is a private, non-profit membership association that strives to meet the health care needs of the UNINSURED and UNDERSERVED. It is government funded and receives grants and funding from the state if they meet certain requirements with their patients. We saw all those people who were on welfare and Medicaid, and a more slovenly bunch I have never seen. People let their kids run around like heathens, spilling their drinks and grounding their cheetos into the carpet. You would not believe the number of people who come in that do not speak one word of English. It's very hard to do one's job when you can't communicate with the patient. I was always running around trying to find a translator, finally I learned how to speak a few choice phrases in spanish to get my point across to them. By law we are not allowed (because of HIPPA) to turn anyone in who we think might be an illegal. And not a one of them had a social security number. Yet those very people(who by the way are popping out children right and left) are the ones whose children qualify for Medicaid. Doesn't this tick anyone else off as much as it does me??

I would be rioting in the streets if the North American Union occurs. they switch the main leader every so often, so could you imagine how more corrupt we would all be with Mexico's government being the main leader?

Back in the mid 90's there was a talk show host in the bay area named Tom Cam that was Screaming this same tone from the top of his voice through the Mic., he was suspended under pressure from whoever for his comments, when he returned, he was supposed to apologize, well he didn't he screamed his thoughts once again through the Mic. and walked away from the Mic., left dead air and quit. The "government" does not want to secure the border. If they did it would have been done long ago. Polititions want more downtrodden undereducated ilegals (read that democratic voters) that need social services that they can not pay for and business wants as much cheap slave labor as they can get.
We have to elect people who are 'sensitized' to the will of the people!
How do we do that? Get involved and change the base at the local and state level.
We are all focused on the National level and ignoring local and state elections. I think that we have to focus on every local and state election that comes up and throw the liberal (statists… socialists) OUT!
The border… we are being invaded. Treat it as such. Make it known that if discovered, transgressors will be treated as invaders! We have been funding a war on drugs for decades also illegal immigration. Both could have been solved or reduced by securing the border.
Instead we are providing 'liberty' in Iraq and putting the families of those fighting there at risk by allowing free access to potential terrorists!
