I know. It is sad.

I know kckshrugged… My co workers and I would call and email the union leaders but nothing ever came out of it. It's unfortunate but other than doing this and talking among ourselves no one ever seem to go beyond that,I feel remiss now that I feel so strongly about the way our country is going. I have been getting alot of follow ups like yours and planto do some investigating this week. I don't know where else they would be getting the money from but from our dues to send us this literature. Also in the union magazine we receive quarterly it will have full page ads and tell uswhich candidate to support during election time. It seems that this really stepped up once Bush was in office. Thanks for lighting the spark under me.
With an economy that is teetering back and forth, I hope that all Republicans in the Senate continue to hold their ground on this issue. All one has to do is look at Union friendly states to see how a Union affects an economy. Every state of the Union is represented at the 912 Project, and I encourage each and every one of you to insist that both of your Senators table this issue. I do not believe there will ever be a time for this Act to be enacted. And this most certainly is not the time.
And the Illegals. Did you ever see the movie "A Day Without A Mexican"????
Frankly I'm sick of these groups in our country out there intimidating us. They work for the neo-left and the illegals and try to shut us up everytime we expose something. We need to expose them for all the lies, threats and coruption they are involved in.
I totally agree. Hereis a little something youwont see printed rob Emmanual is a crook also.
From the Desk of Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton:
Rahm Emanuel's High-Paying, Do-Nothing Tenure at Freddie Mac
Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is not known as a shrinking violet. He's been described as rude, crude, aggressive, mean-spirited, dogmatic and loquacious. Passive, quiet, inconspicuous? Not so much.
So how is it that Emanuel served on the Board of mortgage lending giant Freddie Mac for 14 months without making any noticeable mark, while at the same time reaping huge financial rewards? And why did the normally obtrusive Emanuel keep his lips zipped when presented with an illegal accounting scheme designed to defraud Freddie Mac investors?
These are questions The Chicago Tribune has been asking lately. And here's what The Tribune found out:
Before its portfolio of bad loans helped trigger the current housing crisis, mortgage giant Freddie Mac was the focus of a major accounting scandal that led to a management shake-up, huge fines and scalding condemnation of passive directors by a top federal regulator.
One of those allegedly asleep-at-the-switch board members was Chicago 's Rahm Emanuel—now chief of staff to President Barack Obama—who made at least $320,000 for a 14-month stint at Freddie Mac that required little effort.
“Little effort” may be an understatement. The Freddie Mac board does most of its work in committees. According to the Tribune, there is no documented evidence Emanuel even served on a committee.
But it gets worse.
On Emanuel's watch, Freddie Mac hatched an accounting scheme – reviewed by the board –to defraud investors by artificially inflating the value of the company in order to pay out big bonuses to executives. The company was also slapped with a $3.8 million fine by the Federal Election Commission for using corporate funds to bankroll political fundraisers. In fact, after Emanuel finished his 14-month stint at Freddie , the company held one of these illegal fundraisers on his behalf!
And this is the man we're supposed to trust operating the levers of power at the Obama White House?
Of course, Judicial Watch is trying to dig up as much information as possible on the political corruption that enabled Fannie and Freddie (and their congressional co-conspirators) to operate above the law.
In fact, one Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request relates directly to the political fundraising scheme that resulted in the FEC fine referenced above. On December 18, 2008, Judicial Watch filed a FOIA request with the Treasury Department regarding political contributions and political contribution policies at Fannie and Freddie .
We are looking into the deliberate campaign by these two agencies to buy political protection on Capitol Hill (mostly from liberals) so that they could continue on their reckless programs to hustle “subprime” mortgages to unqualified homebuyers.
I want to know if anyone knows about the H.R. 1388 bill and what it contails.
If the incumbents in Congress are not sweating by now then they are more disconnected than we imagined. I would love to see term limits for Congress but it will never happen. We just need to keep voting these guys out until they get the message that they work for us and we are not just a revenue stream for their socialist agenda.
It's becoming increasingly obvious who Obama is loyal to; the unions. So how is he going to create a million "union" electrician jobs when the majority of companies will move their facilities overseas to avoid paying high wages, increased utility costs, and even higher taxes? Isn't it obvious what Biden was doing when he went to Florida to party with the unions at that plush hotel.
You know, these politicians think this is one big game. But why wouldn't they think that? After all, they get to make the rules as they go along even it violates the Consitution. Now Geithner wants the power to control private companies when he couldn't figure out Turbo Tax. Give me a break!!!
TERM LIMITS …. TERM LIMITS !! How can some of these elected officials feel as though they are serving the people that put them in office after being inside the beltway for sooooooooo many years. They have no idea about the real life and problems outside the beltway. All the economic problems today cause everyone to tighten their belts, but what about Washington. It seems as though the more of our tax dollars they can get, the better they feel. I don't begrudge helping those that are really needy, however it seems the more we give, the more hands that are held out to get. It's time to take care of America and not the world!!!!
Our great President Obama said today he was going to create 1 million Electrician jobs that pay between $90 and $95 an hr , and they will be union jobs. Payback time to the unions…..I believe the man has lost his mind, not only with this but all the other bull crap he has been saying. I'll have to see it to believe it.
The problem with Pennsylvania is that the middle of the state is fairly conservative but the two population centers of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are majority ruled by democrats. Here in Pittsburgh it is a laugh when a Replublican runs for mayor because when they have a press conference there are about 4 people in the room, 3 local network cameras (because they have to) and one reporter for our lousy paper.
Specter only won the last primary because of these two cities as well as Santorum and Bush having to back him becasue he was the incumbent. Bush needed to be on Specter's good side because he had Supreme court nominees coming up and Specter was on the Judicial committee. The good thing is that Toomey will probably kick his rear end this time. We can all hope anyway.
I think, for the most part, Unions (in the USA) have outlived their usefulness. In my opinion, it's the unions that have screwed up the auto companies, airlines, ad nauseam. I'm glad to see at least ONE congressman is against it!
You are exactly right…..that's why I send my son to a Catholic school. No one tells him he can't pray in class or say the Pledge of Allegiance correctly. The tuition is expensive, but I will pay whatever it takes so he can keep the right to pray at school.
Our American Government would do well to adopt the 9 principles and 12 values. Our country would sore to new heights, if we all lived by them. Thank you Glen Beck
True…..I consider him and the other republican women senators who voted for that ridiculous stimulus bill traitors.
look at the small company in either Indiana or Illinois. The workers were harrassed into signing the cards for the union. Union workers went to their homes and would not leave until the card was signed. Once the union got in without a secret vote, the workers petitioned the NLRB to hold a secret election and the union was voted out. I believe the company name was Dana something or other. Employees cannot be fired for organizing efforts. They can be fired for not doing their jobs during working hours, but any meetings or organizing efforts are protected. This is just an excuse because union membership is down and the unions have to resort to force to get members. My representative said companies were holding meetings to discourage unionizing. Duh, the companies can't give the workers their side. With a secret ballot management nor the union would know what your vote was.
That should read count me in. Sorry guess I am just tired
Just because Specter said he would not vote for card check, doesn't mean he will keep his word you know. There aren't a lot of truth-seekers in Washington, just power grabbers.
I just got thru watching Democrats Ellison of Minnesota, and Donna Edwards of Maryland try to mislead the people on card check. When Ellison asked Edwards if the program had been tried before Edwards cited foreign Countries. Somehow Indiana escaped her mind. While Edwards claims employers use intimidation, she failed to acknowledge just the opposite was cited in Indiana, where the Union used itimidation, threats and invaded peoples home lifes trying to force the workers to vote for a Union. Everyone should contact Ms.Edwards and mr. Ellison and tell them their lies and misdirectional dialogue have been seen thru.
Spector is running for re-election soon yes? Gee…go figure. That's OK, Obama can still rely on Collins and Snowe..their good Democrats!

As Unions are structured today: a small shop that gets plagued by a union, they not only have to make sure benefits are administered correctly, pay is dealt fairly, and conditions are kept safe. They have to worry every 1-3 years that they are going to incur a huge expense increase due to 'benefits negotiation'. This is not what a union was ever intended for. Again, Unions in their current form are a direct assault on a capatlist society. They need to be regulated to the point they are not 'Third Party Administrators' for compensation and benefit negotiation. Again, if people want to improve their pay and benefits, they need to improve themselves and move onto companies offering these better benefits, or obtain these benefits themselves.
Arlan Spectre needs to be replaced. He votes for the stimulus bill, and then has everyone on edge about card check? He is a liberal trying to play both sides of the fence in the name of so called "partisanship". He is a Senator from my home state and I am hoping that others see him for what he is. A pure politician. Plain and simple.
As it applies to unions: they are a tool that was developed for a good purpose, that was highly successful in driving America's growth forward, but ultimately taken over by money and power greed. Sounds much like our government to me. Example: Unions were originally developed to govern some very basic principles:
1. You were compensated fairly for the time you worked. IMPORTANT: this does not mean they negotiate your hourly wage. They make sure if you work 50 hours, you get paid for 50 hours correctly. 2. Your working conditions are safe. 3. If either of the above 2 items are violated, the body as a whole would retaliate against the offender (the company) and either cause it significant harm, or the company would resolve the issue quickly as to avoid the first consequence.
Nowhere does a union, in it's original and purest form include the negotiation of benefits, job descriptions, holidays, wage, or anything else. The company sets that, and if you want better, you go to a company that offers better or start your own. Hello capitalism!
If I own a company I want to do with it as I want. It is my company. Unions have put many companies out of business.
It's your co. . do what you want. If you feel the need to take advantage of you workers ,go ahead. Well , NOT IN MY SHOP!
I work in the printing industry and we had the union rolling around our company a couple of years ago.
Our Owner/Ceo held a meeting in front of the whole company and invited the union guys in.
He said " I treat you all well, offer benifits inline with other shops in the area Union and otherwise. If you try to unionize this shop I WILL SHUT THIS M.F'er Down! I don't need the money, I feel obligated to keep this going because of you my employees.
End of meeting
Now we are an ESOP (employee stock option program) that we don't pay into but gain shares every profitable year
He is A Class act (has a foul mouth somtimes but when he is passionate about somthing he Goes all or nothing
that's the kind of company to work for – the others that need unions are shams and cons – don't be fooled. choose wisely.
I know folks who aren't unionized and receive compensation comparable to yours. It has everything to do with the executives at the company. If the company is extra efficient and they make extra profit beyond their original projections, everyone in the company gets a taste. The president, v.p.'s, all the way down to the guys who operate the machines on the factory floor.
There are good companies, and there are companies who don't treat their workers as well as they should.
There are good unions, and there are unions who virtually destroy companies and industries with their outrageous demands. Look at the UAW and Detroit. This is the model for unionized inefficiency.
Or you can take a look at the Teachers Unions. Many teachers are guaranteed their pay raise every year. In many cases, their retirement pay is the average of their 3 highest grossing years. It sounds good at first, but when you analyze how poorly our school systems are doing, you realize this is yet another area where compensation (on the taxpayers dime) outpaces performance. The teachers unions make schools inefficient, and regardless of their obviously poor performance, many receive generous benefits for life. I see this play out in my school district year after year.
The point about Card Check is this -If people want to unionize, fine. I don't like unions all that much, but if thats what the people choose, so be it. However, do NOT take away the right to a secret ballot vote. Card Check goes against one of the most fundamental rights- the right to privacy. By removing the right to a secret ballot vote, the door to intimidation and forced union entry is being thrown wide open.
I have been both a union member and a member of management. I also agree that there are good unions and bad, but a union is what the members make of it. Card check can be good in that eliminates costly elections, but on the other hand many organizers from both sides intimidate and abuse workers and only through voting can the true wishes of the worker be granted. I have been involved as a participent in all three, worker, union organizer and member of management. The worker is always the loser, money is the main concern of both management and the unions. Politicians are the real winners, they play boths sides for no matter who comes on top the politician is there with his/her hand out collecting for persumed help they gave. I have seen the same politician "advise " both sides in my years at one plant .
SUPPORT TERM LIMITS! We have to get rid of these people.
Don't be fooled by Senator Specter. He is running behind in the polls in Pennsylvania and is merely trying to pander to the Republican base. He WILL vote for this bill when it comes up after the election. He is part of the problem, being a career politician of over 30 years.
The Card Check bill or whatever it is called may have some good features to it but when it allows for anything other that a secret ballot it permits union organizers to bully and threaten employees into "going along". That would be like voting in Iran or Russia where citizens are bullied into voting for one candidate. How would you like "supporters" of governmental candidates threatening you to vote for thier candidate (be it local, state or Federal)????
Yup, now overlay this to the New World Order and voting! pretty scary indeed.
first time in a long time Spectors done the right thing
This turn-around by Arlen Specter is a prime example of how pressure from outside the lobbying groups (in other words, regular people like us) can have an effect on actual legislation. However, it kind of highlights the real problem. If he wasn't a career politician, he'd be voting based on his conscience rather than on his need to keep his job. Watching this Jerk over the years should be enough for anyone to want to push for term limits. Imagine how honest our leaders could be if their days were always number. Oh to dream.
I completely agree. I think term limits would be a great principle to unite us. Career politicians like Sen. Specter are a huge part of the problem. Its exactly like you said: if there were term limits, he would be focused on doing the right thing, rather than doing what will get him re-elected.
Along with term limits, we should get rid of the outrageous benefits that a member of Congress receives. You should strive to hold public office as a duty to the country, not because of the power and benefits for life on the taxpayers dime.
SUPPORT TERM LIMITS!
however did "honesty" and "leaders" become such opposing dimensions??? did you listen to the big O spin his BS today in the town hall meeting or yesterday in the press conference? He's under a term – maybe he thinks he can change America into his socialist experiment before his first term expires???? then honesty won't matter in the "leader".
As far as the Palin defense fund. We need the government to step in and fund her defense, because we are strapped for cash. The people who are attacking her are probrably using taxpayer funds. Why chase good money after bad.
I think it would be helpfull if links were provided to send a mesage to our government officials. I would like to tell Mr. Spector Thank you for not supporting card check. Our freedom is endangered and we must do everything possible to protect it. I will send him a note, but it would be great if people could respond quickly.
Right to Work laws are the best solution. In Utah, if wanted to go drive a truck for Kenecott mine, I would have the choice to join the Union and pay their fees and receive 22 dollars an hour plus good health/dental benefits or NOT join the Union and receive the same 22 dollars an hour and good health/dental benefits without paying the Union fees. This would seem like a no-brainer, however, should the employer decide to cut wages/benefits down to a level that I feel is unfair, I could then chose to join that Union and use collective bargaining to restore what I feel is fair. This creates a natural equilibrium of power between the large corporations and the large unions.
Let's be realistic here, we all know that the Unions aren't going away any time soon. At least now, because of the mess in Detroit, more people are starting to realize that the Unions have too much power and are using it more to perpetuate their own agenda than to benefit their members (getting paid too much and putting you company out of business is not a benefit in the long run). Let's focus more on a national Right to Work law that puts more of the power in the hands of the worker.
