When I first saw this article, buried on Drudge, I really thought the headline was a joke. I cannot even believe that we are considering this as a fix. Once again, our border policies are sacrificing law abiding citizens. This is just another example of a policy enacted by this Administration that is just being tried off the cuff without much thought behind it. I really don't care if there may not be side effects caused by this chemical. The act of using it for this purpose is wrong. We cannot sacrifice ourselves for the sake of finding a few illegals hiding behind stalks of cane.

Not only will this chemical kill the cane and any plants around it, but the affects will trickle down to the wildlife that depends on all those plants, and finally to the people that depend on the water supply. All this because we want to be able to see the illegals? What is ironic about this is that one of the arguments against the fence was the impact on the environment. So, this was a more viable alternative?

I encourage us to stand up against this. The effects of this spraying could have more far reaching ends than any of us can imagine now. The lawsuits have already begun, and I fear there will be more.

It's our Nation's boundary. If there isn't an "easement" there should be! States should have no jurisdiction for our Federal boundary. Freedom isn't free is it? Thanks for your service in Vietnam! My brother flew Hueys…He still doesn't talk about it. Thank you for protecting us and holding the burden of thoughts that you have. I feel that soldiers, and their burden have done a remarkable service for the rest of us who haven't had that experience. I remember you guys and gals always! God bless you!

  3. woemcat says:

(comment continues here) In fact, I've got a friend who came to this country from Hong Kong when she was 8. She spoke no English and she had no Chinese-speaking teachers. She learned English through immersion and by the end of the school year, was fluent in English. We do a disservice to Spanish-speaking people by catering to them. It's offensive to me and actually, it holds them down. English is our language, voted on by Congress when our country was young. German lost out by 1 or 2 votes. Spanish wasn't on the table. I say, SPEAK ENGLISH! At least try it. I found many people helped me when I tried to speak their language (in both Japan and Austria). We're basically good people and I know I'd be more willing to help if people try instead of insisting I cater to them.

    • TheAudacity says:

Thank you! Our country is very accommodating to immigrants, and for good reason. Some countries are very anti-immigration (even legal immigration). Some countries don't let people buy houses if they are foreigners, it is next to impossible to gain citizenship, and people who are foreigners in their country aren't given the same opportunities as the residents. So America is very very kind to immigrants, but in turn they should respect our language. I don't expect them to be perfect in English, they just need to try. We have many free ESL classes at local schools. One year of night classes can go a long way in helping learn a language.

I agree that we either accommodate all or none. Why should we post everything in English and Spanish? We have other populations who speak many other languages, so why are we leaving them out?

When we cater to them and their language we open a door to cater to other things as well. They get this idea that we will help them in whatever they need including free healthcare, welfare, etc.

  5. ruby1 says:

There has to be a better way to deal with this issue than causing unknown damage to these areas with poisons. And this would be poisoning the area. Look at all the chemicals that were once concidered safe by science, but are now shown to be dangerous or insane.

  6. VHestin says:

I really hope they're not using Agent Orange/Dioxin. I was born with a comprised immune system and many other health problems due to in utero contamination from my mother being in a house on property where the ground was saturated with it.

  7. TXNSarge says:

Good show freemanredneck!! Your contract should be sent to Capitol Hill. We will need to keep their eyes open so they can read it. Unlike everything else they just sign off on.

  8. Drk_H says:

agent orange was a mix of 2,4, D and 2,4,5 T. it was the 2,4,5, T that is no longer used. These are different compounds than imazapyr

  9. Drk_H says:

Fl label for the use of Arsenal – it is not on a experimental label only.
    http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/AG280

And besides, it will make it faster for us to run to the border in case of O' trying to get our guns.

  10. kimcliftRN says:

I'm not for sure if we should do anything to drastic because we may need to cross over if obama gets to out of hand and not enough Patriots to take care of business. Just a thought.

  11. Drk_H says:

They are using Imazapyr, not agent orange. The ag-chemical industry has come a long way since the 70's. Please don't buy into that line of thought. Aerial sprayers have very strict limits on spraying only in winds from 3 – 10 mph. They will use a barrier, usually at least one swath away from any water as well as a gov't observer like they do with the boll weevil program for cotton in Texas. More than likely, they will have to use ground rigs or backpacks for the up close work, or else some other mechanical means. Many of the illegal aliens, besides just hiding in the brush, are subject to rapes, murders and robberies, by gangs of thugs. This is a very dangerous enviroment for our Agents to have to work in. I see no reason using the technology we have now, not to pursue this option, until the fence gets built. I'm holding my breath on that one.

  12. PhilR says:

I could be real syndical and say they need to build a large canal and fill it with piranha, but they need to do something to stop them from coming over here. Personally they should not give them a dime for anything if they are here illegally, school, welfare, medicare, etc. I would say if they came over legally then yes the could have what we have.

  13. PhilR says:

I think it’s about time that someone (senate or congress) take away the law that states if you are born in the U.S. you are automatically a U.S Citizen. You are automatically a citizen if your parents are citizens.

  14. Rattle_Snake says:

I'm all for protecting our borders, but Agent Orange is a health hazard. Build the fence instead.

  15. Jackjr60 says:

It's hard to tell where we aren't in trouble these days. On the border, overseas, our own backyards. I say spray the border area so thickly with Agent Orange that anything that comes within 50 feet drops dead within minutes. Give the illegals a verbal warning on loud speakers. If they continue on it is at their own peril. It is way past time to deal harshly with this illegals issue. They will be the ruin of our Country.

  16. Elliesr says:

I don't see anything wrong with killing off the plants to prevent the illegals from hiding. People across this country spray their lawns everyday with chemicals and have their children play on them. We drink water everyday from purification plants that come from you know where before it is chemically purified. We eat food that is laced with all sorts of chemicals. I guess it's okay for us to be bombarded with chemicals everyday but when it comes to illegal aliens who break the law to get into this country, it's wrong. Like John Stossel says, "Give me a break!"

  17. fjj says:

Herbicide is unnecessary. A bulldozer should take care of the weeds long enough for a good fence to go up.

  18. onenewman says:

freemanredneck- on my comment I said curses can be broked – the word should be broken. Sorry

  19. onenewman says:

freemanredneck- read you story and want to tell you of somethings that the Vets didn't know about. The Buddhist monks put 3 curses on our guys. They prayed that they would have no rest (constant wandering), that they would have rage, anger and that they would have the spirit of lawlessness, not submitting to authority. These curses can be broked thru Jesus who has helped many of our friends. We have been associated with a group of people called Pointman International Ministries on the computer.
    God Bless You

  20. donttrod says:

They could take the money they spend on this crap and put up more fence, and properly arm and hire more boarder agents. This is the gov. in action. HAHA.

  21. coldtoesinmi says:

Heck I live up here in Northern Michigan only 30 miles from a Dow Chemical plant that is said to be storing all that agent orange. I would not mind getting it out of MY backyard and making it safer for the border patrol at the same time. As for it being the desert and not having foilage you are mistaken. These uninvited trespassers have to cross a river in alot of places.

  22. Come on see the big piture here. This is a way that we will have to let them all in the country or the government will pass a new bill that will tax us. So they can pay damages to their families.after all acording to nancy they are the real patriots.not US born citizens or people who come in the front door

  23. USPatriots says:

ILLEGAL aliens are criminals and should be dealt with and handled as any other potentially dangerous criminal. Is that just common sense or is the rest of the country taking crazy pills? BTW: It's an Obamination what's happening to our country. Thanks< Glenn Beck, for helping us to get back on track–back to basics.

  24. Focus2012 says:

I agree. I had a co-worker back in the early 80's who was suffering long-term affects of AO when he was exposed during his military career. There has to be a better way. I use a chemical by Ortho called Triox which kills weeds for up to a year in my desert landscape. They could use the big earth movers to tear that vegitation out by the roots so it won't grow back

  25. katseyes35 says:

have an Ideal back in the eighty we had hands across america for the aids epidemic how about tea bags across the nation, we buy tea bags and tie them together one after the other, and so on, if evey single one of us can do this we can string tea bags from sea to shinning sea. and on every single tea bags we can write what we hate on them. So how about it? what do you guys think?

  26. C_Gains says:

Of COURSE it's a "set up for gun control"…so, since we KNOW that, just take the wise & necessary steps to assure that they'll NOT BE ABLE to "control your guns"! And, (while you're at it), you might want to ADD to your collection…just in case.{;-)

  27. 1NHPatriot says:

Build a wall over the weeds

  28. C_Gains says:

I just DID…I sent my Rep & Senators the letter with a little comment of my own. Basically just told'em we won't pay them a salary until they OBEY us, and READ their Legislation! Not to mention DEBATE it!

  29. The Audacity is right we do need to get tough, maybe even as tough as Doc Rush said, I have had similiar thoughts, I live in a border state, it's kind of ridiculous that so many people speak spanish or talk of how bad America is, and the fact that there are ONLY FOUR KIDS IN MY CLASS SAY THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

  30. Dioxin is in Lysol, folks……..it's about 1% in the "inert" ingredients list which is never shown to the consumer. This was proved in a court of law several years ago and Monsanto lost the law suit. Dioxin is alive and well in the good ole US of A. so …….let's just spread Lysol over that ground…..that way we kill the weeds and the germs too! How's that for economy?

  31. jwjcc1 says:

Ok, so who thinks BLAGO wouldnt do a better job than BHO? <——-serious question.

  32. Keywizard says:

I'm still laughing! You sound like family! Darn right that was funny!

  33. Keywizard says:

Cut the weeds! Why dump chemicals? I'm not opposed to weed killer when needed in my yard, however, this seems rather absurd doesn't it? We can lob a missile through someones bedroom window from a ship at sea…but we can't protect our borders without spraying weeds? This is the best we can come up with?

  34. DocRush says:

All of this Talk about securing the Border with Agent Orange and electric fences and other pie in the sky remedies, I was being facetious earlier when I mentioned Mustard Gas but if we rounded up most of the illegals that are already here and sent their A$$es back to where they came from, turn the Border into a Free Fire Zone, mine the most active areas, a couple of thousand laying around feeding the Buzzards and the Coyotes would probably deter many but the most adventurous, If Congress would enforce the LAW we would not be in this Mess.

  35. MLCinCC says:

The only way to ensure real immigration enforcement is to take back our nation. When the men and women in D.C. realize that they work for us — or their out–things will CHANGE! That's where my HOPE lies anyway. Please sign and share the Congressional Employment Contract and remind CONGRESS that they work for US!!!

    • C_Gains says:

VERY good idea! Also, while we're at it, BRIGHT florrecent pink overalls for the men being deported, and no meals, unless they're dehydrated or near death. Also, they should be given a message, (written on a laminated /indestructible card), that states the 10 yr. MANDATORY Prison sentence of a 2nd time offender, and a LIFE w/o parole sentence for a 3rd timer. AND, the Mexican Government is charged for the cost of the aprehension & deportation of them on the first offense, and for their 10 Yr. care, on the 2nd, OR for the life sentence, on their 3rd, if they come again. AND, their name should be permanently "black listed".

    • Rattle_Snake says:

That's great! It looks like it was written by the guy who made the Thomas Paine video. I signed and sent emails.

      • Rattle_Snake says:

I received a reply from Senator Sherrod Brown which simply detailed the pay and benefits the Senators receive. The others didn't reply at all. Nice to know these guys are listening to us.

  36. donttrod says:

This is a set up for gun control you know, the hls person Napolitano, you love it, and Hillary said the US shares the blame because the US loves drugs and we cannot control guns coming over the boarder. I wonder how many politicians are earning extra income from the cartels.

  37. Stopthemusic says:

    oh come on…
Now the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is planning on using a broad spectrum herbicide in a pilot test program along a 1.1 mile stretch of the U.S. and Mexico border in an attempt to deter illegal immigration across the border.
It a pilot test!! ( Thud ) Ok.. stop and think here.. the government is using agent orange to kill plants on the border.. this no doubt will create outrage… then congress will step in and try to come up with some law that will allow illegals to stay in the USA in fear that the Mexican government will sue the USA.. for knowingly poisoning illegals from entering the Usa.
    perfect!

Nice article Freemanredneck…. Thanks for serving our country. Would not want to have the Commander and chief we have now though. I see him selling bases again like Clinton did to save a dollar. Why apply a defoliant in a desert.? This story does not ring true.

  40. NancyNurse for someone who is so smart how can you be naive. Please do not play the educated quotient on me I will match my education with yours anyday. I was mixing Agent Orange with diesel. Three days into the mixing operation I went into respiratory arrest, if you are a nurse you know what that is. I developed synovial sarcoma in 1989 and my daughter who at 17 developed non-hodgkins lymphoma passed away two years later. I have lost more friends to cancer who served in Vietnam than those killed in country. Yep we sprayed it on the enemy at the same time we sprayed it on us. Our government told us back then: "it will not harm you". Your argument that water is a chemical too is correct, but I will drink a glass of water, will you drink a glass of Agent Orange? If this shows up twice we are in a terrible snow storm and I am on satellite.

  41. smacking my arthritic fingers I put an 'e" accidentally in argument and it will not let me edit it dang it. How come some of our post reply's are blank?

  47. Brian says:

Illegals are a big problem in this country and we help them freely. This practice needs to stop. If you can not speak english and be understood, then you need to leave. This is the United States of America not Mexico yet everywhere I go we are catering to people who don't speak english. When did this change? Business owners are catering to them because they want their money. Unfortunitly, it comes down to greed.

  48. BackTo1776 says:

Obama is starting to move to shore up the border defenses. Everything you see is a diversion. Nancy on being kind to illegals. The ramp up in border defenses you see in response to our complaints will not be to keep the illegals out, but to keep something else IN.

  49. How about using bulldozers? I mean you could hire people to run them. Get the job done by giving jobs to those in the construction industry that drive "Heavy Equipment" that are out of work in the border area's? Rather than use an herbicide that we don't know the long term effects of.

Being a Vietnam Vet, I get nervous about the use of Herbicides in general, in specific, where the public could be exposed to unknown risk or harm. Who knows how far the wind could blow the stuff?

  50. my daddy never complained (or talked about what he experienced) in the War, either. We had along road as a family to overcome his PTSD and self-medicating. I became a counselor for years based on what we went through as a family. Those who whine and complain about the cost of their sworn oath have no business swearing it. (don't get me started on spouses who whine). You have my respect, and my deep, deep gratitude for keeping our nation safe from a threat that was downplayed and poo-poohed (and still is).

It hurts my heart to see a Commander in Chief who truly despises the task, operation, and general existence thereof, of those whom he is to lead. I used to tell God that I NEVER wanted to be in the military, or marry a military man based on what my dad went through. I am now a proud Air Force wife who is dedicated to a career as a military spouse. My five-year old already talks about "when I join the Air Force" as he is proud of his country and father also. (he also wants to be president because "I can make right choices"). You are a true American, and I am honored to have my husband follow in very large footprints as a military man.

  51. cherokee1241 says:

I have been saying to my other half for a couple of years they should build our miltary bases on the border instead of in the middle of the states that would help solve the problem who wants to mess with our miltary?

  52. comeon7 says:

You might want to change your opening statement here as I didn't even get to finish reading your statement before I gave you a thumbs down. Whoops. Sorry. I didn't realize it was a joke!

  53. After thinking about it, shouldn't it be up to the State that borders Mexico to give permission to use the herbicide or not?

Is there a Federal area, between the Mexico border, or "buffer zone", and the State that borders Mexico where Federal Law or action supersedes State Law or action?

    /0

    • C_Gains says:

Nope! No "FEDERAL ZONE" that I'm aware of…been across several times. But, you must not have gotten the MEMO: "The Messaih has landed & knows no limits to his power!"

  54. comeon7 says:

Hmmm? Here is a crazy thought…rather than chemicals use a controlled burn!

This can be done safely and is environmentally friendly.

  55. woemcat says:

i don't like the idea of agent orange being sprayed if that's what they're really thinking about. i would be concerned about leeching into local water supplies here in the US and Mexico. i do agree the plants should be cleared out. there are things out there that can be used that aren't so toxic to humans or animals. i also think we should actually be able to protect our borders. get the wall up. allow the border agents to shoot. quit prosecuting landowners protecting their land when people tresspass. quit the sanctuary cities. actually allow ICE to do its job! yo pelosi, illegal immigrants are NOT americans! that's like calling me austrian because i'm studying in vienna for a semester. just because one is residing in a country doesn't mean that person is a citizen.

  56. woemcat says:

well said! i'm sick of traveling around MY city and not being able to read the billboards because they're in friggin' spanish. one reason why i quit teaching is because i got sick and tired of doing EVERYTHING in both english and spanish. i'm mad as hell that not being able to speak spanish is a liability in the job market. i'm sick of those so-called do-gooders up in washington taking away my liberties because it's unamerican to deport illegals. i say deport pelosi!

    • TheAudacity says:

I agree! I mean, the only reason other countries display several languages is for tourists. But these people aren't tourists! They are draining our system! That is like me accommodating a thief in my house. We need someone in office who isn't worried about vanity and approval ratings. Someone who isn't punch drunk. Someone who is affected by illegals aliens.

We are on defense in our own country. Illegals and liberals have made it so that those who are against illegal immigration are the bad people. I say we put ourselves back on offense. All people are welcome, but respect our borders and are language.

      • woemcat says:

Exactly! I lived (briefly) in Japan and Austria. I tried to learn their languages and yes, I did butcher them. However, the point is, I tried. There were many places where there wasn't anyone who spoke English, so I can sympathize with people who move here and can't speak English. The problem I have, is that we bend over backwards for Spanish-speaking people, but not for anyone else. We have classes in our schools that are bilingual (English and Spanish), but nothing for anyone else. We either should accomodate EVERYONE or NOONE. (comment continues)

    • JETJD says:

I totally agree! When you go to other countries, you have to learn their language in order to function over there. Why then is it unreasonable to expect people who come over here to learn our language? Why should we have to learn other languages to interact with people in our own country?!

  57. "IMAZAPYR herbicide supplemental information
This herbicidal active ingredient was discovered in the 1970s; it was first sold in 1984. Imazapyr is used in noncropland areas, as well as in certain crops, such as sugarcane, rubber and oil palm. It controls grasses, broadleaf plants, vines, brambles, brush and trees. (However, certain pine species are tolerant of this herbicide.) Injury symptoms usually do not appear for 1-2 weeks and more.. At low rates, it acts as a growth regulator, causing certain turf species to grow.

In Florida, it is allowed for use under an Experimental Use Permit, for the control of the very-difficult-to-control, non-native, invasive melaleuca trees and torpedograss."

    http://aquat1.ifas.ufl.edu/guide/sup33her.html#im...

The above info is from the University of Florida, notice, it is allowed for use under an Experimental Use Permit, in Florida.

I think this could be a very BAD idea, IMHO.

  61. ISEEU says:

What did Agent Orange do? It killed vegetation in Vietnam! It also killed many U.S troops with cancer and caused birth defects in their children. What would not securing our border for many many years do? Maybe it allows many many highly addictive illegal drugs into our country. What would happen if suddenly the government completely shut down the border? Drugs would no longer freely flow here! Then all the drug addicts in the U.S go crazy, and I fear we have a lot of drug addicts. And when all the drug addicts go crazy, we have a human crisis here! Like an Agent Orange Crisis!

  62. Boopster says:

Currently over 300 man made chemicals are found in humans…. Currently only 14% of the chemicals used in the largest volumes have the minimum amount of data publicly available to make an initial basic safety assessment.

Expressing ones opinion does not make one dumb….

    • NancyNurse says:

So how does one analyze that data and hang it on a proper hypothesis and theorize about its content? Give me a break elitist. You don't know a thing about the human toll or the reality of chemical use. Only an academic elitist would ever sound like you just did. This forum is not about impressing each other with academics. And I stand by what I said. You sound dumb. Oops. Politically incorrect. Stupid.

  63. NancyNurse says:

Why not? We certainly used it on plenty of Vietnam Veterans with wonderful effects. That is one way to impose birth control on those Mexicans! And then there would be little need to do abortions! Only kidding, folks. Agent Orange is a chemical with little use in a sparsely vegetated area. It is a defoliant. It strips leaves off of trees and curtails grass from growing. I doubt they'd be using this chemical on the borders. What for????
More likely to be using it on the Marijuana fields and cocaine crops. I say go for it! And why not use it on Poppy fields in Afghanistan? Sure beats having to 'cure' addicts.

I talk about Agent Orange and how it effected me during the Vietnam war if any have the courage to read it at: http://freemanredneck.blogtownhall.com/ This is like a nightmare to me but I am sure they have removed the dioxin or at least I hope they have that has killed so many American soldiers, sailor, airmen and marines. I am a cancer survivor from Agent Orange but I was told it would continue to go through 11 generations before it dies out. If you are patriots here go and read my story just posted.

Zapp them a few times and that area would be avoided like the plague!!!! Put up the towers and lay the wire using prisoners from any number of prisons around the states.I'm sure Sheriff Arpaio in Ariz. could spare a few laborers. Make them work for a change. Get them out from in front of their TVs.

  69. ISEEU says:

Yes, it is just like we are spraying Agent Orange along our border, it seems to me. When they concerned about what is moving from the U.S to Mexico, as much or more than what is coming in from Mexico…and it still does not solve illegal immigration. Agent Orange is a good metaphor in this case.

  70. I agree with you. MAKE IT MISERABLE TO BE HERE ILLEGALLY! Most people don't know it but when they are caught, they are not sent back to Mexico right away. They get a place to stay, food, sometimes medical, clothes, etc. and then interviewed to see if they would be at a risk to send back. All at our expense. Mr Beck should do a story on what happens to them once caught and the process of "taking care of them" before they are deported.

  71. AngryBadger says:

How about we just build the blasted wall and be done with it. Hard to miss someone scaling a wall. And then, if they start finding ways over the wall, we get good ole Sheriff Joe and others like him to send in his boys to clear out the growth they're hiding in.

Why do they insist on making everything so complicated. It's like watching Tom build a complex machine to catch Jerry. Just grab the stupid mouse already…..

If they would simply enforce the immigration laws we already have and stop pussy footing around with all this foolishness the situation would improve. ICE is afraid to go after illegal aliens at the job sites now thanks to Pelosi's little speech. A private citizen in Arizona gets sued by trespassing illegal aliens and the illegals win. Citizen's in border towns are afraid of the mexican drug war seeping across the border into their towns.

For pete's sakes….just build the wall and be done with it. Why kill all the plants in the area? So some radical "save the scorpion" group can protest it and hold it up in courts for the next 5 years? The environmental folks will never allow it and I think the government probably knows that. It's just more feel good talk…see people? we're going to do something!( and when we can't we can blame it on someone else as usual)

  72. Minuteman79 says:

I doubt this very much. They won't build a fence or take anything very serious about our border, so why would they go to the extreme and us agent orange on potential voters?…I'm just saying.

    • AmyMnc says:

I hear you. The more they let in and promise goodies to, the easier to stay in power. Just take your Acorn voter registration card, xerox it, pass it out to all 15 of your kids and sign them up to- but make sure to check the "d" because "d" is good and "r" is bad, as we all know. Bow down to Farrakhan's messiah and not only will we let you come here, we'll reward you for it with all the freebies your little hearts desire.

    **Effects on the Brain**
" The active ingredient in marijuana, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, acts on cannabinoid receptors on nerve cells and influences the activity of those cells. Some brain areas have many cannabinoid receptors, but other areas of the brain have few or none at all. Many cannabinoid receptors are found in the parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thought, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement.
When high doses of marijuana are used, usually when eaten in food rather than smoked, users can experience the following symptoms:
    Hallucinations
    Delusions
    Impaired memory
    Disorientation
    Effects on the Heart "

  74. LAWLUVEN says:

I am really stumped on this problem. A possible solution could be looking at it in a different direction. I apologize for not knowing what County this involves however they most likely have many serving in jail as most all of us do. So, we could use that $2.1 million that is set aside for this pilot spraying project this way. A chain-gain comes to mind. 1.1 miles isn't that far and should you have the attitude of another of our law enforcement officers you could clear the entire area in short time and the county would not need that many dollars (be certain that one of the major costs would be to haul away the garbage always left behind.) The exercise would be good for them and the phrase, 'No work, no food' truly would apply. However extra good food for a job well done could certainly be applied plus a reward to the most work turned in by a team. Competion is always good for the sole.

  75. Ahmut says:

"They" talk about three methods, two of which are already being used near Yuma, AZ for the same purpose although a different plant species. The only one that is ignorant is the one from the air – DUH> Sounds like a start to "cleaning up the borders", I am all for it. Make it easier for the agents protecting our borders when it means efficiency and effectiveness.

  76. Tech_Mom40 says:

I dont know that much about this stuff, but it seems to me that a high concentration of ANY chemical that is not organic is a bad idea. I mean, have they used that much before? What were the implications? Did people get sick? What about bees? They do alot for the agriculture in both countries and they most likely come to the water at the river. Silly, perhaps, but my dad was a beekeeper and I know their importance. If the bees carry some chemical to the orange groves or wheat fields or whatever is there, will it kill them to? Would we be killing our own food supply?

  77. I think this might be a slight exaggeration by someone or group. I don't think they would run the risk like that in our country. Overseas I could definatly see, but, not in America, yet. Time will tell though, I wouldn't put it past them doing something like this while people are distracted with the economy. Like Glen says, watch the other hand.

  78. L1M89 says:

One more item on weed’s detrimental effects on health. Promise no more on hazardous chemicals negative effects, sorry back on topic.

    Marijuana

It is the most commonly abused illegal drug in the United States.
Abusing marijuana can result in problems with memory, learning and social behavior. It can interfere with family, school, work and other activities.

Scientific studies are underway to test the safety and usefulness of cannabis compounds for treating certain medical conditions. Currently, smoking marijuana is not recommended for the treatment of any disease or condition.

  79. I agree with the clearing of the river but I think that chemicals is the wrong way to do it. What if we hired the Mexicans to do it and anyone who contributed to clearing the area would be offered citizenship. It's an idea, who knows.

  80. TexanByBirth says:

It's definitely a sound military move. When castles were in their prime, the land around them was cleared to keep the enemy in plain sight. At least we would be able to see them coming.

  81. TheAudacity says:

I don't think chemical agents are good. That makes us look like the bad guys. People try to make illegal immigration about America being cruel to illegals, it isn't about that. It is about people being here illegally and sucking the system dry.
    1. We protect our border patrol members with benefits, good pay, and protection. Meaning we don't send them to jail because they hurt the poor illegal drug dealer.
    2. Station our National Guard at borders all the time. Station our military there to when we have the resources.
    3. Station our Coast Guard in the ports to check illegals that way. (Already do this one)
    4. Build a wall with look out towers
    5. Make it uncomfortable for illegals to be here DUH. Get tough.
    6. Heavy, heavy fines for business' who employ illegals (I mean take 5% of their profits)
    7. If your parents are illegal, you are illegal too
    8. No social services to illegals (our schools aren't open to illegals and their children, no financial aid, no welfare, no free healthcare, etc.)
    9. If they commit crimes they will automatically have to serve an extra 10 years for being here illegally.
    10. We stop having everything in English and Spanish. You come here, you speak English.
    11. We stop this "We won't pick up illegals in churches." No safe havens.

Make it hard to cross our borders, infiltrate our ports, etc. Make it miserable to be here illegally.

  82. Boopster says:

Chemicals should not be used…No one really knows any of the side effects for many years…

    • NancyNurse says:

Then you probably wouldn't agree to spraying anyone with water. Water is a chemical. YOU are made up with chemicals. Don't be dumb.

      • C_Gains says:

Well, as for whether they're THINKING at ALL…hmmmmm…don't think so. As to their WANTING to actually STOP the flow…well, how will THAT help the NAU get established, hmmmmm….? Anyone remember ole' Will Rogers question? "How do you know when a Politician is lying to you?" — ANS: "His lips are moving!" So, WHY would you BELIEVE ANYthing that a "POL" tells you? ALL they want is more power…and VOTES….could THAT have ANYthing to do with the LACK of enthusiastic Immigration action….Hmmmmmmm???

And, Nancy Nurse, YOU need to smart up a bit. FIRSTLY, we're speaking about a VERY SERIOUS, (illegal immigration's negative impact, and how to BEST cease it), subject in a respectful manner.

SECONDLY, to use a rather foolish analogy, and childish quip ("water's a chemical"), in a conversation dealing with Agent Orange, is equivalent to comparing Acid to water. Irrelevant and illogical, at best.

THIRDLY, Agent Orange is a KNOWN killer…but endangers ALL who deal with it. But, zapping the illegals with directed energy guns is FAR less dangerous, but, CERTAINLY effective, and MUCH safer for the authorities.

    • I agree Boopster…it has been proven over and over again. Imazapyr is not the answer. I am not going to have a debate about who is/isn't dumb, I will always do my research and come to my own conclusion…

  83. Cliff_brown says:

I see the logic and as a military move I believe it is sound. As a political or diplomatic move it is stupid. Civilians too often confuse defoliants with chemical warfare.

  84. BenGleck says:

Glenn is right on this one. We need to legalize marijuana and stop this mindless drug-related violence. Marijuana doesn't kill people… chemical agents do.

    • I agree. I do not and would not(unless cancer) but, it is ridiculous to allow tobacco and alcohal. It makes no sense. They actually will. They want the masses too stoned to care to fight. I'm surprised it hasn't happened by now in all honesty. Drug laws are based on racist lies. Obama appointed a drug czar from a city with a last priority drug policy. Pot smokers are taking up good cell space. If you want them to serve time, make them go on the moniter. The moniter should be used WAY more. Non-violent offenders don't need to be put in with animals. Things can happen in prison and you can get in even more trouble over stepping into someone's territory. We need to do alot with our justice system and flush out the corruption and update the laws to fit the 21st century.

Only a drugged out idiot could get so far from the topic of defoliating a small section of the border. Surly your not trying to convince us you're doper, or are you?

      Quote About.com:
" The Health Effects of Marijuana
Negative Health Effects Are Numerous "

      “ Effects on the Heart
Within a few minutes after smoking marijuana, the heart begins beating more rapidly and the blood pressure drops. Marijuana can cause the heart beat to increase by 20 to 50 beats per minute, and can increase even more if other drugs are used at the same time.
Because of the lower blood pressure and higher heart rate, researchers found that users' risk for a heart attack is four times higher within the first hour after smoking marijuana.

      Effects on the Lungs
Smoking marijuana, even infrequently, can cause burning and stinging of the mouth and throat, and cause heavy coughing. Scientists have found that regular marijuana smokers can experience the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers do, including:
      Daily cough and phlegm production
      More frequent acute chest illnesses
      Increased risk of lung infections
      Obstructed airways
Marijuana contains more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke and because marijuana smokers usually inhale deeper and hold the smoke in their lungs longer than tobacco smokers, their lungs are exposed to those carcinogenic properties longer.
One study found that marijuana smokers were three times more likely to develop cancer of the head or neck than non-smokers. Many researchers believe than smoking marijuana is overall more harmful to the lungs than smoking tobacco.

      Other Health Effects
Research indicates that THC impairs the body's immune system from fighting disease, which can cause a wide variety of health problems. One study found that marijuana actually inhibited the disease-preventing actions of key immune cells. Another study found that THC increased the risk of developing bacterial infections and tumors.

      Effects of Exposure During Pregnancy
Several studies have found that children born to mothers who used marijuana during pregnancy exhibit some problems with neurological development. According to those studies, prenatal marijuana exposure can cause:
      Altered responses to visual stimuli
      Increased tremulousness
Problems with sustained attention and memory
      Poor problem-solving skills ”

My wife’s cousin Adrian never smoked cigarettes during her lifetime. She smoked weed since she was 14 and quit when she was 34. Adrian died of lung cancer before she was 36. No health issues is what you’ve claimed so please do toke away and include your moonbat pals.

That’s certainly an interesting concept you’re indulging in, voluntary population control Just don’t spread your mind numbing chemicals to those with a good chance for success and greatness.

      • kojobovava says:

if you legalize it then only the idiots will feel those negative effects because only idiots would use it. Haha. If they had a way to legalize and tax suicide then I'm sure normal people wouldn't all start killing themselves. Only the idiots would.

Instead of poluting the area with a chemical that is known to cause health problems why can't we use a large double set of consertina wire along with directed energy weapons? These weapons, when used, cause extreme discomfort while engaged but when turned off this discomfort stops.and there is no long term health risk. It wouldn't be long before the illegals stopped crossing for fear of being zapped.

    • AmyMnc says:

Good idea, but a better route would be the fair tax and/or enforcing the laws we already have on the books. The fear of having to pay taxes and no more benefits is much greater than being zapped. If they can't come over here and live off the honest hard working dollars of legal citizens, they'll be fighting to run back across that border.

  87. 4theRepublic says:

I didn't see agent orange listed there, and I'm positive Imasapyr is a different product made by American Cynamid Co., not Monsanto the pioneers of killing people. I like the idea of helping the border agents out, but spraying chemicals over such an expansive area is a bad idea.

  88. NancyNurse says:

I know what I am talking about and am serious about what I said as well. I know all about Agent Orange. It has and will affect my life for the rest of my life. I also know that it had its proper use. First, I need to let you know that I am a wife of a veteran who got his share of chemical defoliants in Vietnam. He got sick while there and didn't know what was wrong. In the late 70's, he was tested for 'exposure' (actually, he just had a simple blood test by the VA and was told he was ok) after we lost three children with severe birth defects. Finally we did have two kids, but they had birth defects as well that were corrected and the children lived to adulthood. Our daughter cannot have kids. Our son had a son and he has birth defects as well. Our son can have no more children, either now. My husband's exposure has resulted in diabetes II, MS, and chloracne. He does not get a dime from the government in compensation. I am a nurse/scientistwith a Master's Degree. I have done some consulting with an expert from Columbia who got a grant and worked with the American Cancer Society quantifying chemical exposures in Vietnam. The theoretical use of this chemical defoliant in Vietnam was to prevent safe haven for the enemy, but the joke was on us. As my husband pointed out, that the deforested areas might have made it easier to see the enemy, but it also made it easier for the enemy to see you! My childish quip as you put it is not childish at all. Anyone can die from any chemical exposure when it is in the wrong proportions to the conditions of life. In Vietnam, the problem was that the military didn't realize the toxicity of this chemical, did little to no training of those entrusted to spray or spread it, and it was applied incorrectly. Thus, the damage.
Answer me this: how many people died of Agent Orange exposure last year versus how many died from water intoxication (drowning) last year. Should we then outlaw water? See my point? Any chemical can be harmful. But we cannot become paranoid about the use of a chemical, just know its purpose and the range of when it does its proposed job and when it is in the wrong concentration. Agent Orange and the chemicals in it are used in the USA every day. Read the back of any bottle of weedkiller. You might just be surprised that the chemicals in them are similar if not identical to the chemicals used in Vietnam. So I hope that you understand that I was not being irrelevant or illogical. In fact, I think you are.
