First the President tells 60 Mins that he would not accept the resignation… but the rumblings from the Senate Banking Committee are not as warm.

These people are acting a lightning speed because they know they have little time left. The entire bunch needs to be replaced.
It's another Obama magic act. While you are preoccupied with this you can be sure he is sliding something else in under the radar.
He seems like he's the golden boy today!!!!!
Thats because our president has quite the ego.
It seems like everyone who did everything wrong is getting handouts. How does that seem fair to those of us who actually work for a living?
*3 branches of government are suppose to be checks and balances*
However, aren't those in the Judicial Branch appointed by those sitting in the Executive Branch? And how have they not stood up and said "stop"??
Pitchforks and torches aren't going to help without a little firepower to assist in flexing muscles. I'm totally in.
He is campaigning to convince the uneducated people of America to listen to what he has to say and believe in him instead of researching and thinking for themselves. Its obviously working some, though if this were any other president he'd be very close to removal – and I'm shocked no one has been standing up to him!
I think its ridiculous how he talked about the national deficit will worry Americans causing less buying/spending. He also discussed how we are going to fix our economy by borrowing – our economy is in the mess its in because of borrowing… it doesn't make sense. It almost seems like he was mocking people who buy treasury bills. Re-financing homes shouldn't be a flicker of hope… its a sign that people are taking their situations into their own hands. I think it was a bad idea for him to be laughing over our financial situation. Personally, I feel that he basically stole money from the tax payers. We are in no position to be spending like we are on a federal government level. I'm still convinced he is driving us to bankruptcy, and trust him less and less every day.
If these people know what they are doing then they should be tried for treson. If thy do not they need to be impeached. One way or the other this is going to be the death of us. God bless the U.S.A.
I don't believe he is on shaky ground. The Dem's control everything with their super majorities in the house and senate. Who, exactly, would force him out? The Democrats who sang his praises as the ONLY person in the world who could save us? Or would it be the two remaining Republicans in Congress who aren't afraid to voice their opinions?
It would be us… the people… who are responsible to band together to accomplish the job. Congress is only making things worse, and sees our president as a tool to use in a manner that gives them exactly what they want.
Is is me or did Barry look totally stoned during the interview? His eyes were glassy, he had the giggles at the most inappropriate time… all that was missing was a bowl of chips and a Dominos pizza to curb the "munchies".
The National Tea Parties, and 912 project are only the begining. We must start standing up instead of lying down, saying what needs to be said instead of waiting for someone else to say it for us. You're right the curtin has been pulled back and we are starting to come through.
You're doing a good job, Brownie!
Seriously folks, mark these words, one day Obama will be in an interview, you will hear grinding noises, springs popping, and smoke will pour from both of his ears. He's sprinting to the finish, and it's only tomorrow..
that is the way CHICAGO DOES THINGS.
pitch forks and torches carried to the capitol by the citizens.
Every time I see Geithner's name I feel ill. Putting the fox in charge of the henhouse does that to a person I suppose. But yet our esteemed leader the Obamassiah believes he is the most quailified person in America to do this job. Just one more item to add to your list, why Obama is not the man for the job.
if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then….
This guy is in way over his head. If the blind leads the blind, both will fall into the ditch!
Geihtner is indispensable to Obama because he's the perfect corrupt conduit between Wall Street Big Money and Washington Big Government. The Plan is to cement Big Wall Street Global Money with Big Washington Global Power using American taxpayer dollars and generations of American debt. Feigned congressional outrage at corporate excesses like AIG is just the curtain behind which all the backroom deals are made. Obama is corrupt Chicago politics and needs Geithner to make this deal happen. Geithner's New York Fed and tax cheat history make him the perfect broker for collusion between Big Money and Big Power. But Obama will make Geithner the scapegoat, if necessary, and find someone else. That's how corrupt one party politics works and that's what America has. Obama's winning and America's losing today. But the 912 Project and national Tea Parties are part of beginning to pull the curtain back and expose the massive corruption. We're in a fight for our lives as we once knew them. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Obama, his minions, and our corrupt congress will not go away quietly and they will not play fair. If we can accept that, we can fight back.
Geihtner is simply a scapegoat whom Obama can serve up right before he Nationalizes the banks because "there are no choices left".
I wondered for a while why nobody is fighting to simply allow the over-inflated markets to bottom-out naturally, and quickly, and why we're throwing almost a Quadrillion dollars trying to re-inflate a global credit bubble.
It's all about power. It's about taking over the private section, and instituting Socialism, or possibly Fascism. At this point the government is intentionally turning a cyclical recession, that in hindsight might be comparable to the S&L crash of the 1980s, and pouring enough government "gasoline" to ensure we enter another Depression, so that Liberals can make a power-grab and restructure our entire country.
If we're dependant on the Government, we won't oppose them, it's that simple.
Well, tax season is pretty high pressure for me too.
I have to say i agree with you in the case of Geithner. Seems like everyone they appoint is guilty of cheating their taxes and no matter who is in there they will be the same puppet Geithner is. Liberty713 is definatly right they are hidding somthing big like Glenn has been saying they are putting up smoke screens (ex. AIG bonuses) and doing a good job at grabbing are attention and pointing it away from the real problems they are creating. Im a young guy and to tell you the truth i am scared of the debt they are going to screw the real citizens of this country with(US).
I could not agree with you more – Very Sad Indeed!!!
DD~
o.k. ……….. something needs to stop them …… they are way out of control and with no plans of slowing down …. we the people need to join together …. go to the stand up and lead link at the top of the page ….. find out how to contact the government ….. write and call all of your local and national government offices ….. tell them to stop spending our money ….. tell them you do not want to be taxed for the governments mistakes. . . as for the class action petition ……. how do we the people go about starting something like this? ?
Nutn2say – you have the wrong name – I'm in.
The Founding Fathers provided us (We The People) with the First Amendment Right to petition the government for redress of grievances. I propose that those of us, who think it’s long overdue, make use of this constitutional right by forming a class action petition for redress of the decade’s long assault on our U.S. Constitution by the federal government who only see the constitution as useful toilet paper. To swear oath to serve and protect the Constitution and to only blatantly turn around and find ways to circumvent our law of the land is treason. It’s time to let the republican and democrat den of thieves who will lie, cheat and steal their way into office for their own personal gain at our expense, that their time is up! A class action petition is the only way to get this county back on track the way it was meant to be!
Bob Shultz and the http://www.wethepeoplefoundation.org/ have been submitting petitions for redress for 10 years now. In fact last June 30th we served all congress, the senate, the president, his cabinet and the supreme court with 7 counts of redress and have never heard one word in response.
This approach has been tried to no avail. Our servant government seems to think we have the right to complain but they don't have to respond. Kinda like king George's responses to the colonist in the 1760s.
"SHACKY GROUND"?!? He make's Califonia and th' San Andreas fault look "ROCK SOLID"!!! A "Tax Cheat" in charge of th' IRS? A guy who cant figger out "Turbo Tax" in charge of the IRS? A guy who has said he has a plan…… But never get's around to say'n jest what it might be? A guy who cant seem t' find anyone who is willin' t' work with him? Come on folk's, what have we got t' worry about? Cept maybe a bunch of idiot Ya Hoo's who cant find there butt's with both hand's on em', an' their head's up em' bein' in charge of th' whole shebang!?! (It's called "Intercrainial-analitus".)
I don't know about his happiness, and frankly I don't care. At this point every time I see him I think of
"The Joker" from batman. I'm really about over hearing how he's been given such a full plate, and oh he's doing such a wonderful job with what he's been given to deal with. I mean do they really think we are that dumb? Umm hello, he was actually present during the bailout's architecture! He knew all about this prior to even his new job as the secretary of the treasury! But I am sure he had alot going on what with not paying his taxes and all. What a louse!
Not dumb, rather ignorant. The constitution is not taught anymore. These possessed swines (sorry piggies)
know that not many know anything about the US Constitution and are counting on the ACORN-minded people to just trust them to take care of things for them. We all need to realize how much damage has been done by the dumbing-down of the educational system for the past 25+ years and now there is a vast amount of voting public that have no concept of the real history of our country or what the constitution is or what it says, or even how it came to be.
How many stores do you go into where the clerk counts your change? National Geographic did a special about a decade or more back where students could not even point out states on a map with state outlines but no names. They could not identify where our nation's capitol was located in the country. Ahh…but sex education is taught, by golly! Beginning in primary school! Sure glad our priorities are straight!
It is time now to revolt… who's with me?
Thomas Jefferson is definitely turning over in his grave…wait, better make that spinning in his grave. If only our fore fathers could comment on what is happening today they would put all those idiots in Congress to shame!!!
It's so bad at the Treasury, Obama can't even get it staffed. Oh poor Geitner, under soooo much pressure – how is he any different than the execs that take bonuses with taxpayer's money – oh wait, Geitner didn't pay his taxes so he didn't pay the bonuses. This is a circus.
Every day that passes the Treas. Sec. appears to have a longer and more pointy nose…
Is there an option on my 08 taxes to do what he did… Then forget???
Glenn Beck or go to heck…
Definately something very sinister is going on with the Treasury Dept. Geithner is hiding something really big! Notice that the republican lasted a week in that position and resigned…something is definately going on and it is major!
Good point Liberty. I never really thought about it but the Republican shagged that place didnt he?
I have forgotten who that was already? Should we contact him?
As Thomas Jefferson said: A wise and frugal government, witch shall leave men free to regulate their own prusits of industry and improvements, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned-this is the sum of good government.
Wrigt letters put presure on congress .Threaten to boot them out in up comming election. If they want to their office it might do some good.
Till we can show them that we can get more than 50% of eligible voters to the polls they'll laugh at you because the districts are drawn to favor them, they know their people will go vote and those that stay home don't matter. That's how they stay in Office for 40 years
make me want to go out and use turbo tax how about you
I never really understood how he became Secretary of the Treasure myself, but I suppose Obama's reason for nominating him was to create a smokescreen. As you can see, he's proving to be a very effective smokescreen.
Tim Geithner should never have been confirmed!!! He skipped out on paying his taxes. Anyone who does not pay or is incompetent enough so he can't figure out how much in taxes he owes, doesn't deserve to be the Treasury Secretary.
Geithner is not qualified to be SecTreas. Of course, most of us would agree on that point with respect to Reid, Pelosi, Schumer, Frank, Rangel, et al. But, I have to wonder why any reasonably astute "rich" individual or corporation would want to cooperate with O & Co by buying some of these "toxic assets." Assume one makes a net return over a couple of years of 6 percent annually. Won't the congresspukes decide that is "outrageous" and in need of "clawing back?" I mean, on the face of current action, how the hell could any reasonable person trust congress?? Oh, and did I mention that they are now discussing the possibility of taxing the executives of all publically traded companies at 90% of their salaries in excess of $250,000?
How about the following to "level the playing field." Congresspukes can receive and spend campaign contributions equal in value to two years' salary for the House and four years' salary for the Senate and President, tax free. Above that figure it is taxed as common income at the 90% rate. Further, that must include any support in kind or cash from all sources including PACs, unions, non-profits, etc. In other words, all contributions from all sources, no matter where and no matter how, are subject to tax. Party sponsored ads don't count provided that the ads do not mention a specific candidate, i.e., vote Republican, vote Democratic, etc. Those ads should be limited to, say 10 cents per capita in each state, or nationally if they want to use broadcast/cable/satellite broadcasts. Never happen, of course, but it would be a good idea.
I can't understand why he was approved in the first place let alone why he is still there! Oh, maybe no one else wants the position? Why isn't congress finding out who all the players were, we already know when they knew.
Not a chance. They all have had their hands in the cookie jar and know it. They know if they push to investigate, it wouldn't be long before they were investigated too. It has to come from elsewhere.
Let's face it, 95% of the nation's politicians should be in jail.
I say that the PEOPLE should form a Coalition to "Clean the House.
Ron_P
Geithner is a criminal but replacing him makes no difference. A new Paulson/Geithner who is owned by the banks will just replace him.
The new plan to bailout banks is more of the same with a different name. Every single plan is centered around one premise, steal from the people and give it to the banks. Even when the last three plans were rejected they ended up stealing $100 billion through AIG.
if Bush and Cheney should be in jail, then you should also include Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and Maxine Waters in that bunch. they have every bit as much to do with this mess as Bush or Cheney.
looks as if the markets like Geithner's plan to buy up bad assets from the banks today… he received the "nod" from the Financial Services Roundtable… however this is expected, he should be doing this sort of thing to get us out of this economic stalemate, this may get some money "flowing" a bit more. but he still needs to be questioned by a Congressional Hearing as to who wrote the loophole in for AIG bonuses…. someone has to answer and i believe it begins with Geithner.
Geithner has realized that he is NOT to big to fail.
Nobodyis too big to fail what ever happened to anti-trust laws break up these componies parts and let the market handle it.
Form grand juries and issue indictments!
This is sounding better 'n better!!! Start over in Washington!
Yes, no one other than Pres. Obama have confidence in him. He and the President should do the right thing for the American people. Why doesn't the President really reach across party lines and select Mick Roomey for the post. We need someone who is truthful and will do the best job for the ordinary citizen.
You're talking about bipartisanship, which is something that will never happen unless if the other party loses. Anyway, Obama plans on milking Geithner for all he's worth so that he can do his own thing without the media sticking their noses into his business. If he really wanted to reach across party lines, he would have already let Geithner resign.
And for the record, the Republican that you speak of is Mitt Romney.

Or call it slavery.
What about his crime last weeK? The 3 branches of government are suppose to be checks and balances. I am pretty sure SecTreas is a Executive branch job. He pressure a member of the Legislative Branch, Chris Dodd, to amend a bill to allow the AIG bail outs. Is there a lawyer out there that can tell me if it is a "high crime"?
Hell no, just another Scumbag politition that is above and beyond the law. Here timmy, timmy, timmy I have a rubber malet to show you! Muuhhhaaahhaaahhaaa!
I agree with you. I've never trusted him and I don't really believe anything he says.
Timothy Geithner has always been on shaky ground with me. I have a real big problem with someone signing my dollars, and running the IRS that cannot complete his taxes properly. I understand that the tax code is complicated. However, being that it is so complicated, have your taxes done by an accountant, not by TurboTax.
That being said, I believe that Geithner is just one flub from being forced from office. We cannot have someone making errors with our tax and monetary system especially now. The biggest cry seems to be that this man is understaffed. And while that may be the case, I do not think he should be given a free reign to fail.
And by the way, President, when someone issues you a resignation, you may disagree with it, and you may feel that it is unwarranted, however, you still have to accept it.
Geithner is too important to Obama for him to let him go. If Obama just simply let Geithner resign, he would no longer have his Royal Jester to act like a fool while he goes and spends another Trillion dollars when everyone isn't looking
Geitner is a crook who did not pay his taxes(he finally did only after the press wrote about it when he was nominated by obama),,but he cannot be trusted and he has no idea what he's doing with money we don't have!!
Can we put pressure on our congressional leadership to push for investigations…not sure they could get the votes? Just wondering if that is even an option.
How can anyone not accept a resignation? So you force someone to serve/work? I realize that our military servicemen and women serve and can not resign, but that doesn't apply to cabinet members. Anyway I degress. I have never seen why we can't do without Geithner…let him go…get someone that can really do the job.
Obama says what he thinks about white people!!!!!!!!!

As mad_in_iowa says: D.R.I.P. Don't Return Incumbent Politicians and let's enact term limits! The President pro tempore of the United States Senate currently is Robert Byrd (D-WV). He's been in the house and senate since 1956. Since President Eisenhower was President!!! He's 92 years young and probably hasn't had a new fresh idea for a long time. His tenure should be over NOW! Time to smell the roses Senator. D.R.I.P. DON'T RETURN INCUMBENT POLITICIANS AND LET'S ENACT TERM LIMITS!!!
The longer a politician is in office, no matter how conservative or liberal they are, the more corrupt they become. Congressmen should only be allowed two terms; four at most to equal two presidential terms if necessary.
I heard from a patient this morning that AIG, BoA, Citi and others are using bailout money to lobby congress for more money!!!
If you want to see corruption at its finest, FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL. Look who has received money in campaign contributions, look who will get CEO jobs or Board jobs. Does anyone here really think that people who serve in government and cheat on their taxes deserve a chance to serve again in the public office? When Republican's had control of both houses and the presidency, why did we not go to a flat tax of a fair tax, and yet, now everyone is saying we need a flat tax, except the democrats. I could care less what party you belong too we all are being misquided. I agree the federal reservse should be abolished and the UN should become a parking lot but what party will listen?

I found this posted on another site.
Effective midnight ending March 31, 2009 A.D., the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the IRS, and the Federal Reserve Banks will be legally barred from collecting any more Federal income taxes
It seems as if this is all a big game to him. I mean cme on these economic policies and problems are no big deal to him. It is very disconcerting seeing him not taking these things seriously. Then again I believe as many of you do he is inover his head and not the one who is making the policy anyway. He is a figurehead for Nancy P and Harry R and their agenda
I've heard a lot of people who feel as you do. Some people remember when he seemed so angry and stunned about the whole thing, yet he now laughs. Others didn't mind it too much. Interesting.
how can a person be doing his job when he is never in his office. always touring the country campaining. FOR WHAT? is this all he knows to do. well i guess that if you do not get your hands dirty you cannot be blamed for the results of some one else!
We are yelling our heads off about getting rid of the congress and setting term limits – but I cannot fathom how we the people can really accomplish it practically. Did anyone here already suggest the way and I missed it?
I am wondering how everyone feels about the 60 Minutes interview – Here's the video in case you missed it – President Obama on 60 Minutes. Did his laughter bother you? If you want to make an analysis and send it my way, I will consider posting it on Political Popcorn.
these politicians are yelling about the bonus of AIG and Wall Street and that These Ruthless CEO should Be fired.. Yet On capital hill and The Treasury are saying .." we don't Know , We Don't Know… ( Do you consider pork barrel Spending a bonus For politicians?) I do. Jezzzz ,.. I Think we Should Flush Capital Hill down The toilet .. and Use A plunger to make sure it goes down.
Your not the only one who feels this way – Here's a great article by Michael Godwin on, a must read – President & Congress Running AMOK
I think Geithner is there so that B O can put the blame for failure on him when this housing bailout fails and he will remain one of the false prophets we have all been told to watch out for
I think everyone who signed that stimulus bill in GETS FIRED! Simple as that. If you voted it in.. you are OUT! Anyone who voted this in was not doing their job and NOT looking out for us people. If I did my job that bad, I would be fired! If there is no enforcement of behavior like that, what deterrant do they have. They are getting rich and laughing all the way to the bank. We are sitting here not knowing what the heck to do and hoping someone up there has some leadership skills to go after these guys legally and get them out! This is pathetic! Obama supporters will follow him right off a cliff! And Obama knows it! Obamas success is the fall of America. That is what his goal is.
Its all a matter of time, but how much time do We The People have?
We would have to take more time to get rid of this guy than it took for the President to officially get him instated. It seems awful fishy to me that everything happening is moving at rocket speed. Plus the fact that there have been over 15 executive orders since the beginning of his term.
I'm conducting a survey on term limits. Each survey only counts a 100 people so I've posted 3 links
4.)http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=R6cHQWo8E2J...
5.)http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=_2fPRH_2bwn...

P.S Each link only surveys 100 people so Please pass all 3 link to your fellow 912ers
Let me preface this with I never felt Geithner was qualified for this position to begin with that being said.
Everything he has done has not been in the best interest of the tax payer…Giethners new idea of investors buying toxic assets is also a no win for the taxpayer and reeks of favoritism for the elite…..
Geithner is a tax cheat and should never have gotten the job. On the other hand, who would want his job? Right now, he cannot even find assistants, so I don't think they will be able to replace him. He does come across as inexperienced and uncertain of what to do.
The man never should have been given the job. ELIMINATE TAX CHEATS FROM OUR GOVERNMENT….OR LET US CHEAT TOO!
It almost seems like the government thinks we are little children. Distract us long enough and we will forget what the issue was. But they are mightily mistaken
That sounds like the perfect recipe for a giant Tea Party to me.
I could not have said it better, you hit the nail on the head ! Now this morning on Fox, Bill Nelson (D) Florida says that we have to increase taxes on tobacco, and implement Cap and Trade in order to pay for BO's budget. "We can't fix the economy without addressing global warming and health care" according to Nelson & Dem's. For one I'd like to know just what does global warming have to do with Trillions in deficit spending. Call ME stupid I guess.
These folks have no ethics! What about "NO EARMARKS" and the some 9000 that were in the omnibus appropriations bill, or "NO LOBBYISTS" and there are several in the administration! About your comment regarding some theorists trying to re-direct the American economy, I say why not, they can turn around the climate of the entire planet by passing legislation! What A Joke! THROW 'EM ALL OUT! D.R.I.P. Don't Return Incumbent Politicians and let's enact term limits!
He should have never been given teh job in the first place. He is there because nobody else would follow BHO and the FED so blindly. Once the public becomes aware of what is happening behind the scenes, he will be ousted. Some other puppet will take his place. It is a dangerous and ugly revolving door in the administration.
Wow new plan to buy up toxic assets…. and going to cost about $1 trillion, Geitner will not be going anywhere while Obama is in office. The Dems at the end of the day will support Geitner and Obama.
This is even funnier…., BO's administration and congress have spent the last few months demonizing the wealthy, now Geitner's plan unveiled this morning, wants the "wealthy" investors to buy up the Toxic Assets. Oh, yeah, now they are called "legacy Assets". I hope investors thumb their noses at them.
I think the leadline for this discussion should be "Is the Treasury Secratary on ANY Ground?"
It's called "funny money".
Is it possible to elevate the issue regarding Geitner by actually asking concerned Americans if they really want the name of a tax cheat on U.S. money. Or maybe it should be asked …does a tax cheat deserve to have thier name on U.S. money. Also the U.S. mints should be placed on hold until this issue is resolved.
I believe Geitner is being used as a straw horse to detract attention away from Obama's socialist programs that is destroying this country.
History is loaded with governments with strong socalist leanings that have failed or are nearly bankrupt. California,
USSR, etc.
Too much attention is being paid to these issues and not enough to stopping Obama march to a socialist state.
all right class, listen up, it's time to accept some hard truths .and the truth is, if Geithner started wearing his pajamas to work, urinating on the white house lawn and set fire to the library of congress his job will be safe. kinda like having a union job.
Geithner is an effective distraction right now. As long as the media is focused on him, Obama can further he and Pelosi's agenda without scrutiny of most people. Once the prez's poll numbers drop, then Geithner has out-lived his usefulness, and poor little Timmy will have "family issues" that require his undivided attention. Good riddance.
I think that everyone in Obama's Administration is a joke, but with this stunt that Congress has pulled off with AIG, Geithner has become the center of attention; so I agree that as long as everyone is focused on him and AIG, Obama and Pelosi will have no problem with passing their agenda.
For ethical reasons, Geithner should have never received the job, but he's not on shaky ground for not doing the job, because the problem is no one can do the job he's been given. There is no way to successfully solve these financial problems through central control. He's been given an impossible job. This government/corporate enmeshment whereby a few power players attempt to turn around something as complex as the American economy is the height of arrogance and ignorance. Central control and manipulation caused the problem and are now interfering with the resolution of the problem. We need a separation of state and economy. The more they tinker with the economy the longer they delay recovery. If we'd had a free market, this downturn, if we would've had a downturn, would've been short and sweet, but government interference caused a deep problem and now their solutions are creating a long slow recovery as the spontaneous order of the market struggles to overcome their incompetent manipulations.
http://www.Bonzai.squarespace.com
Geithner should be on shaky ground as he cheated on his taxes and should never have been confirmed to lead the treasury. Here is a list of others (with reasons I can come up with) that should be on shaky ground.
The President and executive office for:
- Completely ignoring the constitution
- Moving the Census under the white house
- Continually nominating tax cheats to cabinet posts (ignoring a promise to the American people)
- Discouraging actual debate on issues of bills that put generations of this country into financial bondage
- Reneging on promises of allowing time to read and debate bills before signing them into laws
The Congress and legislative office for:
- Fueling fires for the last 2 decades to whip up the American people into frenzies
- Giving only lip service (if that) to issues while trying to get as much as they can from that which they would claim to oppose
- For those that voted against the stimulus, putting their own pork into it because they knew it would get passed anyway
- Not representing the people in a way that is good for the REPUBLIC IN WHICH WE LIVE!
- Having a federal welfare for the states they represent … or in other words … coming to Congress as a welfare recipient for their state to get money for that state regardless of what is good for the country.
The general politician for:
- being more worried about "retaining" his/her job than "doing" his/her job … or in other words … focusing on a re-election campaign the day after they got elected into office.
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." – John Adams, 1798
I agree MFarmer!
The economic problem in America is, and has been, the idea that central control and manipulation is needed to keep the economy stable.
That was the justification for the creation of the Federal Reserve, a PRIVATE organization accountable to NO ONE.
The founders warned us about this. And I'm sure what they had in mind was a government controlled bank. What has been foisted upon us for the last 96 years is far worse – a central bank in private hands.
"The central bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existing against the Principles and form of our Constitution. I am an Enemy to all banks discounting bills or notes for anything but Coin. If the American People allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the People of all their Property until their Children will wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered." – Thomas Jefferson
I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but it sure is a convenient 'crisis' to justify the expediency and provide some measure of cover and distraction from massive social engineering projects that are being rammed through the legislature.
The Federal Reserve must be nationalized with an end game of being completely ABOLISHED!
I believe as you, congress and government can't even run themselves, let alone a complex financial system. I shudder to think that Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi and company are have taken the reins on this mess. All should be left alone and let the free market fix itself. It's embarrassing that as of this morning we have France and Germany applauding us now……ugggg
They will use Geitner as a smoke screen, the press will be to busy wondering about his job, and miss the boat. The people who should be on shaky ground work in the Whitehouse and the capital building. Geitner is just the first of many who most likely will be a scapegoat. I don't think Turbo Tim should have the job in the firstplace, but maybe they put him there to divert attention from the Whitehouse.
Has anyone noticed how uncomfortable and unhappy Geitner is looking these days? I think he DOES know his days are numbered and I think he's grasping at straws for how to redeem himself. His popularity is plummeting. As a matter of fact, so is Obama's and if we can get his down another 20% we can oust him. I promise we can. Geitner is another thing, I'm not sure if even Obama can stop the onslaught he is getting ready to face.
I've seen dogs in the pound that have been beaten. Turbo Tax Timmy looks like that.
Well, for one. He shouldn't even be our treasury secretary. He is a tax cheat. He also was the architect of the toxic TARP bill and because of the fact that he was apart of the Federal Reserve, should have ruled him out as a choice for the treasury secretary. Screw him. I hope they do more to him that fire his ass. He should be in jail for crimes against the U.S. What happened to common sense? Obama couldn't have selected someone who actually has real world experience in business, not some wall streeter who know how to move massive amounts of currency. We should have someone in there who actually built a small business from the ground up that was successful, who actually also has experience doing payroll, paying taxes who never cheated on their taxes. There isnt a place in washington anymore for the honorable is what obama was telling us with his ridiculous choices for cabinet positions.
And kick pelosi out as well. It wouldn't hurt my feelings none if all the crooks were fired, and we start over. That would be history in the making. The first time American's fired all the crooks, and we the people took over.
And add to that, kick out the Village Idiot, Harry Reid.
I second that motion, now how do we do it?
Has he ever looked happy?
You bet that Mr. Geithner is on shaky grounds now, at least with the Congress and a lot of the American people. I've written to my representatives in washington about the air of amateurism with Mr. Geithner. Let's get this man some Corporate CEO's that have some economic savvy and that can see the big picture to help Geithner get his job moving forward instead of drifting aimlessly. i'm tired of hearing for over a month now about the understaffed Treasury. Hire some people!!! I hear there are some people out of work who would like a job. Let's not wait for the time consuming vesting to go on for deputy secretary of treasury and under secretary positions. Let's get on with it and if Geithner continues to drag his heels in finding a solution to this economic mess, then i shall accept his resignation.
Good old Barney Frank says this whole AIG mess is Bush's. When are they going to stop beating Bush up and start taking responsibility for their parts in this? Obama says the buck stops with him, but he keeps harping on these AIG officials, like they are robbing the country. It was Obama's stimulus bill that allowed this to happen — what about that??? Of course Geithner could have spoken up and stopped this, but why would he? He isn't stupid, and he knows which side of his bread is buttered. Obama and his posturing on this makes me sick. I hope there is enough pressure on Obama to let Geithner go (the tax cheat), and maybe Obama will then realize that we are getting fed up with his crap.
I don't think Obama or Geitner think Geitner is on shaky ground, but I would bet he'll be gone within a month. If it was a Republican administration he would already have been pushed out, but since it is Obama and the MSM loves him they will try to keep covering for him, but in the end he is gone
I think Geitner knows he's on very shaky ground. I give him 6 months, after all if they get rid of him now that would make Obama look really bad. And Obama has an image to up hold.
I don't think that he's been there long enough to make a decision to resign, but the decisions he's made so far seem to be taking us in the wrong direction. The whole AIG situation is a huge mess. I don't remember which senator it was, but if he didn't change the wording of the bill that passed, these huge bonuses wouldn't have happened. One thing that gets me is everyone complaining about these bonuses. I know its a lot of money and yes it should be used elsewhere, but the government should not tax a specific set of people because of money they made. What if they taxed all of us "regular folk" 90% on our $1500 bonuses? We'd probably be ticked off. $1500 is a lot of money to some people.
The senator you're talking about is Dodd, and he was told by the administration to change the bill to allow for the bonuses (his words in a cnn interview). Of course, he didn't name names. Ironic, however, that the same people "outraged" by the bonuses are the ones responsible for them.
I expect conservatives like Shelby to think Geithner is on shaky ground. The real clue is all his former supporters who think it is time for him to go. Obama will keep his happy face and stand behind him until a proper diversion can be created, then it is under the bus for Geithner.
I agree that Obama is looking for a smoke screen before he tells the tax cheat to make up some kind of story about a personal problem that he must attend to. My question is what do you think he will use as a diversion?
When we see a tail wagging a dog we will know Geithner is toast. Like Free-Bird I do wonder what form the diversion will take. I am sure he will create some sort of out rage for the cool aid drinkers to get mad about and for the press to cover.
Can we throw Dodd in for good measure?
Please these are all just actors. Turn your attention to the real authority in this country. The Federal Reserve is a private bank that operates above the law since 1913. Cut the head off of this snake!
stan, i do believe that if you want to blame some one for the mess we are in you need to look in the mirror. nuff said!
Yes please and Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi too.

Then let's talk about getting independent grand juries organized across this country!
