What I want to know is why The Choosen One does some much in secret? He works for us and everything should be on the table…. EVERYTHING!
Many of the ex-military pilots are going to retire out of the commercial carrier positions through mandatory retirement age, many are Viet Nam era pilots. The next group of pilots being trained are less likely to be ex-military than any time since WWII.
That was one of the concerns voiced by Chesley Sullenberger after he landed in the Hudson River. Proficiency as a pilot is most effectively gained by actually flying. Many folks promoting cap & trade (carbon tax) are not acknowledging that the increased cost of aviation fuel will reduce the number of hours that pilots can accumulate.
The best pilots I know, with any rating (private, commercial, atp, you name it) all have one habit in common:
practicing take offs and landings to stay sharp.
Simulators are fine for replaying a particular scenario; IE program Sully's landing in a simulator so that other can learn from it. Unfortunately a simulator does not come as close to the real thing as some people might imagine.
Envision an electric keyboard v. Stienway grand piano, similar and yet not quite the real deal.

My husband and I got our permits together and, along with my father-in-law (a retired state trooper), we have been educating ourselves on gun use and ownership. I encourage more women and couples to do the same. Don’t give honest gunowners a bad name by not knowing how to use and store them, and don’t expect your husband to be home if someone attacks. Arm yourself with tools and knowledge.
Glenn Beck is right on women and guns. I have been a victim of 4 crimes over a 5 year period. First, a sexual assault, then a theft, then harassment, and then yet another harassment. You might think that these are somewhat related….they were totally random, and I lived in the suburbs (supposedly in the eighth safest town).
After my daughters were born, I became increasingly uneasy about how crime was dealt with. No knock on the police….some of them want to do their job…..but the government and all of those public statistics has their hands tied and they are reluctant to even take a police report. I then realized that if I had to rely on the government to defend me, that I was giving the criminals all of the power. Sometimes the police just can’t get there in time, and if they did, they may not do the whole “protect and serve” thing. And then if I send my husband to “take care of business” then he’s the one that might get arrested. Interesting? No. Ridiculous.
Okay let's see.
Obama is trying to disarm our pilots, disarm we the people with more gun control, and disarm our military by cutting defense spending when virtually every other area of spending, most of it wasteful, is being increased.
Obama so far has done nothing about Russia buzzing our ships with its jets, trying to put missile bases in Cuba and Venezuela, and still threatening Georgia, irregardless of pulling out. The Chinese threatening our ships? No action taken yet. North Korea continuing to build nuclear arms, and kidnapping two journalists? Ditto. Syria promoting, training and practicing terrorism? How about some nice talks? Iran continuing to support terrorism and arm itself with nuclear warheads? Obama sends a video asking them to play nice; and what will he do about their in-your-face retort and list of demands on America? My guess is nothing. Maybe talks with no preconditions. In other words, nothing.
Obama closes Git-no-mo, sending its terrorists we probably know where to do we definitely know what. He tells us we can't use dirty words like terrorists, enemy combatants and acts of terrorism anymore, because we might offend the people who are trying to kill us.
Does anyone else see a pattern here?
I hope so, because if not, and if we the people don't do something about it, we will be in far more trouble than we are already.
In other words, follow arguments through to their logical conclusions.
Sorry for your tragic loss. 1) plastic bag is not evil… but add a baby and an inattentive caregiver and… 2) a car is not evil… but add a drunk who willfully gets behind the wheel and… 3) the gun etc… 1) The plastic bag was not at fault… 2) the car was not at fault… 3) the gun was not at fault. The gang banger is where you need to focus your attention.
Then you have no clue about what's coming down the pike. So sorry.
Great idea about the TEABAGS! Instead of mailing in an actual tea bag…take a photo of one and send that in! Or empty the teabag and send it in! The post office must deliver the mail. No weird substance aka anthrax….Wahlah, we have a solution!

How stupid!! Now he is even planning to let terrorists from Gitmo go free and let them walk the streets in the U.S. Anybody believe anything he says anymore?
Didn't realize there was a rash of pilots shooting people to warrant this . . . just one more example of Obama's anti-gun agenda!!
With this great news and the announcement by Eric Holder that they would probably have to let Gitmo detainees loose in the US I would encourage folks to hang on to their guns and buy more bullets. The government doesn't want to protect you, in fact, they are trying to make it MORE violent for you on the streets/airplanes. Didn't Obama once mention "My Muslim Faith" in an interview. Seems more likely to me every day.

Yup. I've owned the NRA movie "Banned" for years. Citizens of both countries tried to warn us 9-10 yrs. ago.
I can only think of 2 reasons for this act.
First is that they must think that there are loose canon in the pilots and so they want to disarm them, however I've yet to see anything in the news where pilots were a threat.
Second is that they want to make pilots impotent to terrorist act.
Please tell me there is another reason that I just missed.

It is time that all the people who believe in the 912 project form one group and fight this corrupt government. There is power in numbers and I do believe we surround them. Lets pick a date and all meet in Washington for a peaceful demonstration and show our strength and let our demands known. I think July 4th is a good date to start. Writing our comments is great but it is time for action.

I do not believe Obama is running things. Obama just reads what is put in front of him other people are pulling his strings, he can't say hello without a prompter. I believe his past associations tells us who is pulling his strings.
This man is just asking to get hit again as in another 911. As I had said at an earlier date I firmly believe he is looking for a reson to declre marsall law for any convienent circumstane that presents itself. My quess is before the 2010 elections as the liberal Dems may no longer be the majority party. We now have a battalion of military personal training in Maryland and I believe elsewhere for civil unrest, the is a civilian problem for the police or National Guard not the military unlees military law is declared. Anyone else out there with thought on this?

I believe that if a pilot is a responsible individual and can legally carry a gun, there is no issue with allowing him or her to carry that gun on the plane. The only people who will fear this would be terrorist (ie anyone looking to harm those on the plane, hijack it or otherwise break the law). So if the pilots can not carry guns… who can? Are we now going to employee a policeman for every flight? If Obama and his followers are so worried about what could happen on a plane then perhaps they need to secure it with an FBI agent? Why not… you and I can't bring ANYTHING on a plane that even remotely resembles a weapon so there's no way we can defend ourselves. My husband just flew on a plane earlier this week and they took way his shaving cream. There goes his plans of drawing "flying free" on the airplane window. Darn.
According to the pilot's union and the tsa, the program is not being cancelled.

If this is true that Obama took the guns away from pilots he has done something again that will in the end hurt us all. Give the guns back to pilots. I hate to tell you America he is coming to your door soon to take your guns and put you in jail if you don't turn them end. America you had better wake up, this time its theirs protection, tomorrow its yours. You said its ok to take assault rifles this week, you said its ok to take any semi-auto rifle next week, you say its ok to take semi-auto pistols, then its ok to take revolvers, then its ok to take your semi-auto shot guns and then your pump rifles and shot guns. Oh now you are concerned American they are going to take YOUR single shot rifles and shot guns and not its not ok, but guess what its too damn late to care. Well sorry for your wife getting shot by a gang banger.. but did you ever think that if your wife had a gun she would have had a better chance of not getting shot? with the left screaming about gun and wanting them out of the hands of citizens, it just screwed up.. outlaws will still have guns, and the common citizen will be even more in danger.. cause if the gang bangers have guns and WE THE PEOPLE OF THIS GREAT NATION don't they will run crazy in the streets and in homes taking what ever they want cause they know WE THE PEOPLE don't have a way to defend ourselfs..

I am sorry for the incident in which your wife was shot and I do not mean to be cruel but did you ever stop to think that person may not have been a legal gun owner. Gun control only impacts the legal gun owner and has no impact on those owning guns illegally. And furthermore it is a Constitutional right to own a gun and it is not a Constitutional right to have health care. As for taxing the rich more that is nothing more than wealth redistribution. There are other ways ,and I may be wrong but don't we already have state sponsored hosptital and clinics, I believe we do. And who pays for those? All taxpayers. And as far as religous belief , the freedom of expressing them is what this nation was built around. Being liberal really should not be a reason to think we are all 'entitled" to things.
I knew this was going to be the most outrageously corrupt government in our history, but I had no idea how much would happen this fast. My head is just spinning trying to keep up with all of the 3 musketeers (obama, pelosi, reid) destructive policies. Sometimes I seriously have to take a day or two away from the news to focus on those values and principles here on the site or I can get really bogged down and depressed by it all. I'm guessing I'm not alone in this?
If Obama wants to disarm pilots, how about disarming his pilot and his secret service first and see how that works out? I was hoping they were just plain stupid Marxists, but the more they do the more obvious it becomes that destroying our country (via policies and making us more vulnerable to terrorism) is the entire purpose of this administration. They just can't be this stupid.

I'll pay my federal taxes to keep the Armed Forces protecting me, the State taxes to fix my roads – other than that – get the hell out of my life.
I think they have an easier route than a direct attack on the 2nd. They can just pass more regulations, paperwork, and taxes on anything gun-related. My dad owns a gun/sporting goods shop here in NC and sometimes I check the vendors for him before he places an order, that sort of thing. It is extremely difficult to get a hold of handguns and ammunition right now, unless you can buy directly from the manufacturer in huge quantities. The people behind the counter in the gun shops see what's going on, and it ain't pretty from their point of view. It's only going to get worse from here. Buy now while you can.
That seems reasonable to me. Following the police will be no guns for the military. After all…there are really no bad guys who hate our guts – only some poor misguided souls who have no craft other than making bombs to burry on the side of the road. All we need to do is sit down and talk sweetly with them and then we'll all hug and make up.
That's a good thing, but what are they supposed to do unarmed? Sit down and have a nice discussion? Beg them and say "oh please mr. religion of peace, we good liberals know that it's our fault you hate us. can we pay you off if you don't take the plain down". I just don't see the purpose of air marshals on plains if they have no means of defending the people sitting in the seats.
Pilots undergo intense scrutiny to earn their license. They are incharge of the flight and airplane. That huge responsibility must also allow them the right to carry a gun. Obama's craziness continues. Republicans must take control of the House and Senate in the 2010 election to stop or at least question Obama's Executive Orders.
the bottom line to all of the gun b.s. is this. armed folks are citizens, and unarmed folks become slaves to the politicians at their will. good example, the nazis . look at how they did what they did. the first step was to confiscate all of the guns in private hands, then began the attrocities they did. wake up people look at the daylight. it's your choice and the time is here now. either you will be a citizen, or you'll be a slave to do your masters bidding, so which do you want?
Firearms are tools. like any tool, in the right hands it will do its intended job and do it well. I asked a friend of mine who is a cop his opinion on this continued drive by the Obummer administration. He was blunt by saying that if we, as private citizens do not take our safety and protections into our own hands, then nobody can or will. The only thing that law enforcement can do these days is "after the fact". That includes air safety. Let pilots carry, use and defend. I would rather have a pilot packing, then end up a grease spot in some field or a hole in a building. I don't think that Omar-el-kaboom is going to be deterred by any law that these clowns in DC propose. I want my pilot to say to come over the intercom and say "You are free to move about the cabin – Wow! Freeze! Not so fast Abdul!
I don't see what the big deal is. The pilots should have a right to carry guns on board. I'm sure the pilots have taken classes to conceal and carry the firearms. I'm also pretty sure that they aren't going to do anything to endanger the lives of their passengers with the guns. I'm sure our founding fathers knew that at some point in time our government was going to try to disarm America. I also believe that this is the reason why the right to bear arms is one of the first amendments. They knew how important it was for the people to stay in control. If you take our arms away then we have nothing to protect ourselves with.
The Manchurian Candidate . . . er . . .BHO has made up his mind (as per his teleprompters) that commercial pilots will not longer carry weapons in the cockpit. He obviously has based this decision on statistics. Uh, what statistics? How do you prove a negative? Easy. You start taking away the most obvious deterrents, one by one, until what others didn’t want happening, happens. But then it is too late. Isn’t that like playing Russian roulette?
The next thing you know, BHO will dismantle the Air Marshals . . . for economic reasons. He would rather the money go to protect the field mice in San Francisco.
Next BHO will send the Army down to the border to start taking guns away from US citizens — that were used to protect themselves – because the Mexican drug lords are getting their guns supplied from the US. Or that’s what he tells us. Proof? Why, we don’t need no stinkin’ proof.
If citizens don’t give up their guns to the standing army (what Posse Comitatus Act?), the army will just arrest those people for . . . whatever . . .and put them in detention camps. “Suppress Insurrections,” you know (Art.I, Sec. 8). Oh, wait, we have rights! Well, you will until Congress takes away your habeas corpus rights (Art.I, Sec.9, Cl.2), and then you’ll be stuck in those camps.
And what will happen to you homes, farms, and businesses? Well, Hillary can tell you that she has been busy trading eminent domain powers (Amendment 5) away to the Chinese in exchange for that country to continue to buy our treasury bonds. When the dollar becomes worthless, the Chinese will take whatever they want, including your home, for a few cents on the dollar. Think that cannot happen? The U.S. Supreme Court set it all in motion for that to happen when it approved governments to take anything it wants and give it to private investors.
Ah, what could be better? One-world government (where the inmates – aka Congress – will be running the asylum), and one-world slaves. Wake up, America!

What is the process to "divert" money from one item to another? I realize this administration is going to whatever they want regardless of the law, the Constitution or the wishes of the citizens. However, it is time we become loud enough about these sneaky little attempts to usurp all of our rights and protections, that the general public is awakened to the travesties foisted upon us by this communist administration.
If the current administration actively seeks to prevent pilots, who are trained under the auspices of the Federal government, from protecting hundreds of passengers from a very real threat of terrorism (not man-caused disasters), exactly how secure do feel that they will allow any random citizen of this country to remain armed? The second amendment was not enacted to provide folks with the right to go hunting. It was enacted so that the citizenry could protect itself from tyranny, which is an ever greater threat than terrorism.
Pilots on the other hand, carry concealed, and probably not all carry firearms. Provided these individuals train regularly with their weapon, I'm glad the're armed. We, in the security industry call this defense-in-depth. Reinforced cockpit door is one layer of security, and armed pilots a second layer. Lastly, there have been no undesirable side effects to armed pilots, so what's the problem?
As someone has already mentioned, healthcare and education are not "rights"! The constitution states that all powers not granted to the federal government by the constitution is reserved to the individual states. this is who should be funding the educational systems….the state and/or local governments! Why should I as an Alaskan resident want any of my tax dollars funding failing schools in say….Detroit??? Makes no sense…….
I do believe this guy will try and nickel & dime us right out of all our Constitutional rights. We're going to have to band together and take back America.
I don't remember ever hearing about weapon carrying pilots actually using those weapons. No one went "postal" Let them carry them if they choose. I makes me crazy whenever I read about some politician – especially Obama, doing something in secret. What about "open, apparent, and transparent"? This entire administration has, so far, just been smoke and mirrors.
Well, having pilots armed IS a security risk to the terrorists….is that what he's actually telling us!
Let's make it easier for someone to hijack a plane, lets turn Gitmo detainees loose in our country, let's go get buddy/buddy with "Ahmanutjob" in Iran…..there's a pattern here people!
EVERY law abiding citizen should be allowed to carry arms on airliners – and trains, boats, buses, and etc.
