So what can we do to nip this in the bud?I have called my representatives and cited several studies that show that this will destroy small farms(which are the largest part of U.S.agriculture)and called their attention to obvious violations of the Constitution. The result has been dissapointing to say the least.I remember the fall of the USSR,the state farms stopped producing and the thing that saved the people from starvation was the small farms. How can we get people to understand that the small farmer is an asset to the health and security of this country?Who is on our side in government?
OK, help me out here, I'm not certain this one is something we're going to be able to stop, and calls to Reps/Congress seem to fall on deaf ears. Here is my question to anyone in the farming, Ag business, help the rest of us out and tell us what to stock up on, what do we need to do, your expertise is what we need to tap into, one way to buy time over a government that wants to control food is have as much as humanly possiblr rat-holed away. I know, ceral, oatmeal, beans, rice and dried milk, anything else and how much for how long
The National Animal Identification System (NAIS) and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) are two different issues. COOL has already been implemented and circumvented by the USDA and big Ag. To continue to deny consumer choice of origin, beef for instance is often packaged and sold as "A product of USA, Canada or Mexico). Big Ag does not want consumer choice.
NAIS was designed by Big Ag and RFID chip manufacturers to increase their profits and destroy small producers. The people at the USDA embraced the idea, as many of these companies are either former or future employers, contributors, etc. of our "public servants". NAIS has already cost the taxpayers over 100 million dollars and is a worthless idea that violates several of our rights protected by our Constitution.
Identifying animals has been going on for centuries through brands, eartags, tattoos, etc. An RFID tag would not make any improvement as it all would be removed at the processors anyway.
Animals can still be moved within a state, it is when you cross a state line you need a health certificate.
the gov wants to control every aspect of our lives. these things are being passed undercover and its very scary!!!! i know someone up north who was told that he could not even have a garden b/c it was considered "organic" and thats under holistic med, which you have to have a license to practice!!!! i know another who works for a big city water comp. and they r really pushing the "smart grid" which monitors every time you use electricity and how long you did it. the gun bans r starting and now we have our military on city streets for no reason and no one can say who called them in. this is happening very fast. its almost as if the gov is thinking of all the ways people react when in danger and trying to survive and making sure that they r the only answer.
It is encouraging to hear Oregon rejected this.
The government does not want people to be self reliant. Producing food for ourselves by growing gardens or raising poultry and livestock diminishes the control I fear our government seeks. As for contacting legislators, on the Federal level my Senators and Representative either ignore or infuriate me.
The state legislators are quite different, and we have had success with them, the exceptions would be if you are from California or New York.
Verichip wants to chip people. They think it is a great idea, and they could make lots of money. RFID chips are implanted in some credit cards and merchandise. Real ID would use a chip. See the Spychips website for more info.
I believe to qualify for the governments interest in your production you would have to produce $1000.00 in
income, or have been able to sell it for $1000.00. I wouldn't worry about the label, if you are a gardener, self-reliant, homesteader, small farmer or small producer, or in a nutshell an American, we are all in this
together.
Local farmers claim Monsanto agents sneak into their fields to get samples to test. I don't know any local farmers that use Monsanto products; seed or herbicide, and a lot of corn and soybean are grown here. Many dairies don't want to use GM grains.
There are choices for garden seed. Heritage seeds are harder to find but you can plant their seed and get pretty much the same production from them. I am rather spoiled by Hybrid veggie plants, and have had better luck with them. I must admit though, my time is limited and I am a lazy gardener.
You know where it is going. Put it all together: HR45, HR645, HR875 and S425
Yes, it is true. They are coming for our guns, so we cannot defend ourselves. Yes, they are building the gulags to house the dissidents and the growing army of homeless people. After the credit squeeze hits the farmers, there will be food shortages. If this law takes hold it will pave the way for nationalizing our farms, which will only make matters worse, with even more food shortages. The credit squeeze has already impacted farmers in Africa, where the farmers are abandoning their fields to dig for a few grains of gold per day in Zimbabwe, because their currency is worthless, which is just where we are headed.
Do you know your Russian History? What economic sector did Stalin slaughter first? Who is being impacted the most by the credit squeeze? It is time to plant the seed guys.
This news should turn even staunch democrats on their ear, if they can understand it. Maybe it will put an end to their fence sitting, and get them to question their support the Obama administration.
Apparently, our government was poised and ready to respond with this legislation when stores started recalling peanut butter. Congress was just looking for was an excuse to act. Having the MSM jump on the peanut butter salmonella outbreak of 2009 was just what they needed.
No they were not going to do what they should have done years ago, and fix the FDA; just like they were told by the Army Corp of Engineers to fix the levees in New Orleans years before Katrina hit. They want an excuse to create more bureaucracy, by creating yet another agency. This one will control what we consume, what is grown, how it is grown, how it is processed and distributed.
All you tree huggers listen up. It looks like the end to organic foods; and, don’t plan on sharing any of the food you grow with your friends and relatives. You could end up paying a stiff fine or going to a Federal Pen if you do so.
FYI, farmers are already being forced to use genetically altered seeds from Monsanto, instead of reusing seeds filtered from their crops. This bill will be just the thing for big companies like Monsanto to force the farmers who have been operating on the fringe to comply. Now the Federal Government is going to force farmers to buy genetically altered seeds, growth hormones for their livestock, fertilizers and pesticides from companies like Monsanto.
Have you heard of Codex Alimentarius? In a nutshell the WHO has declared the nutrients in food as POISON using risk assessment technology. You can read more about it here: http://www.healthfreedomusa.org/?page_id=164 or google Codex Alimentarius. They are apparently developing a global diet, among other things.
I would have written this off as hyperbole if I hadn't seen it flashed on a CBS affiliate station.
Please see my comments below
This is done through bio-engineering of our food source. They say it is done on the basis of making plants more disease resistant…but I don't believe it. It's like saying the corn seeds bio-engineered with peanuts and fish is a good thing. Then they also say well it is onlly used for feeding cattle…but how do you know someone will not make a mistake and put it into the food chain of humans. This could also be the cause of what is troubling our bee population which is in serious trouble. Whole Foods market used to show a video all about it but they filed a lawsuit in California to stop them and they won. All I can say is store seed and lots of it…you don't know when you might need it and you surely don't want to be storing seed that will not generate next years crop. Be alert, be wise and plan for survival
When I was attending Culinary School I went to a Chef's conference in Las Vegas and San Francisco…in 1997. In that conference was a program about Slow Food and heirloom seeds. There is a concerted effort by Simplot and Monsonto to control the seed supply in the world and there-in control the food supply of the world. It works like this…Monsanto/Simplot buys up farm land next to a heirloom farmer and they are buying alot in California. They plant their crops with what is called a sterile seed. Why do you think Chefs are so concerned about using organic and free from pestisides. Anyway…Then the bees pollinate the organic farmer's crops with sterile compenents of the Monsanto crop and therein rendered the organic farmers crop sterile for the next year. In otherwords when he tries the next year to use the seeds he saves from his crops they are sterile and will not propegate and he then has to buy from Monsanto or another source. ..
usgal, I think all of the issues we are all dicussing seemlessly entertwine into one goal and that is to make the U.S. public complacent and easier to rule. I had not interlocked the cashless society into all of this until I read your post, but there is no denying this has been touted as a possibility. I have been suggesting on multiple posts to purchase heirloom seeds and learn to garden, learn to save on electricity and puchase an emergency solar power kit for your home, stock up on essentials like flour, barley, oatmeal, cereal, dried milk, canned meats anything with a substantial expiration date. Finally, We're going to have to present our own bill in the senate that stops all of this, because teabags, letters, phone calls and screaming are just not working. This entire mess is like the janitor of a large corporation taking over the CEO's position, our government has forgotten who they work for, and they forgot a very long time ago. It's time to remind them.
TXTJ, I agree with your advice about seeds and gardening. We do raise a large garden and preserve much of our food. We also have a few laying chickens for eggs, and in the past have raised broiler chickens for meat. The thing I worry is that once they can track everything, the USDA / FDA will have county offices, much like the current extension offices to police us. Who knows what they could do? Imprison you for not have your "home garden permit"? Fine you? What if a chicken wanders off and they find it?
The reason Washington does not listen is because we have representatives in there for life, then the
second generation takes over from the same family, then the third….that needs to STOP. Too many
unholy connections are being made and maintained that are taking away our wealth and our rights.
I believe this spans the globe, not just the USA…all we hear about is global this, global that. Last
week there was talk of a "Global currency". We now know that part of the bailout money went
overseas, billions of it.
soilent green is people
The government wants to control the food. Years ago it was reported that a female employee of the UN said, "He who controls the food controls the people".
For many years there has been talk of a "cashless" society. We are almost there, with electronic banking, ATM cards & Debit cards. With the recent banking crisis and government "investment" in our banks, think about this:
If all the cash & coin is taken out of circulation, every single cent could be tracked AND controlled. Think of
the power that would give the government. If people were to loose access to their "money" for some reason, what would happen then? They would use the barter system. What would be the #1 barter item? FOOD! (See where the Food Safety Act and NAIS comes in?) Throw in the fact that the FBI is proposing eye scans and palm prints for EVERY U.S. citizen (and last year requested to hire an additional 1000 agents), and the REAL ID system, you now have an entire country controlled AND tracked. You have an entire society enslaved.
A BIG BROTHER nightmare.
I've already talked with the Chief of Staff for my Representative and explained how this bill like the Comsumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 is like killing ants with Nuclear MOAB' (Bombs)
The soviets did this, they had the worse food shortages. Governements can not control food or they control life and death. Just look at china the government has full control over their food, their people are posiened. This is a slipperly slop that is turning into and avalanche. We have to fight this one very hard and at every turn. The wording in the documents appear to make it impossible to just grow you own food. What if we get to the point where the only food comes from them and the only way to get it is by a means we are not willing to do? We will not even be able to grow our own food. So much is happening so fast, Banks, Food, closing of stores, unemployment, losing homes, smart grid, internet of things, socialized health care. The list goes on and on. There is no way this is just an accident, it is a agenda that we see being layed out and pushed on us. We have to fight back and stand up united. We have many fronts right now. With this 912 group may be we can start making sence out of these things.
I live in a small town in CT and 1 of my favorite things to do is go to a local farm and pick fruits and veggies. There are many people who do not have an such an advantage, but they do have access to farmers markets. Small business farmers are not the problem, they take pride in their product and would be embarrassed to sell tainted food. Putting an industry, like small independent farms through such stringent regulations is absurd. What happens to people that have gardens, are they going to be inspected and fine too? As a small business owner in the marine industry, I understand over regulation by the government. Our state has decided the marine industry can be their cash cow, trying to implement regulations that are costly and almost unachievable. I know we are in a cash crunch, but bankrupting an industry is not the way to resolve the problem.
Its Congresswoman Rosa DeLaura who is trying to push House Resolutin 875 through. And no wonder, her husband works for Monsanto!
I use no commercial fertilizers or chemical sprays on my garden. I buy heirloom seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. There are still a few companies out there who sell REAL seeds! In fact, I am seeing more & more "organic" seeds on the shelves!
Monsanto has managed to buy up just about all the seed producing companies worldwide. If I remember correctly, they now control about 90% of the seeds on EARTH. That is field seed and garden seed. 15-20 years ago there used to be thousands of varieties of garden seed available in various catalogs….now Monsanto controls most of the seeds and there is about ONLY 500 varieties available.
Be aware if you plant seed originating from Monsanto, you will be breaking the law to keep seed from what you raise to plant next year….I know of a farmer that kept Monsanto Round-Up ready soybeans to plant the next year…he was fined $25,000. How did they catch him? By tracking when he bought the seed and when he bought the Round Up.
Txartst – I say to you and all other true TEXANS…"Remember the Alamo!" Personally, I am more than willing to post a "No Trespassing" sign on my gate, by my garden, on my chicken coop, on my pasture gates, on my windmill and solar panels, store up extra water (drill a well) and food supply for myself and my extended family, (in other words, become self sufficient) and then sit on my porch with several loaded guns and stand guard, daring anyone that even remotely looks Government to come on my property. It will take a small militia to take me down, which I prefer to being "controlled" to a slow, miserable death! My plan is Biblical… Nehemiah 4:8NIV…"They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. 9But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat." I've been praying, now I think it's time to "post a guard"!
I suggested, on another subject, that we all compose and send several letters to our Congressional representatives expressing our thoughts on the subject. I am now changing that and suggesting we send a large box full of letters to them, on each and every issue that comes up. A letter or two can easily be ignored but if we organize a letter campaign so that every member of the 9-12 project, and every member of their family, sends a BUNCH of letters, all on the same day, for consecutive days, maybe then they will take notice.
Just a thought…
We must all make an effort to collect and preserve seed lines for heirloom and other vegetables which can be grown for food as well as seed to continue the strains. We must promote individual and community gardens in neighborhoods, schools, and elsewhere. If enough people produce their own food either individually, as a communtiy, or in local small farms, the government won't be able to control it!
You do not sound like a conspiracy nut, because that would imply that it was not true. But it is. They are trying to control the worlds food supply not just Americas. The UN has legistatior that this is based on. The plan is to not just control American food but the World food supply. I have been doing research on this and I am verifying that it looks like a major step into taking over the food supply. Once they have that we are under their control. They will make it seem like it is the best for us, but that is a lie. It is for control.
the evil elite want total controll thats what this is all about, they want to make sure you can only eat their gmo food that screws up you dna. next you want be able to have a garden because pelosi says we may grow pot.while the cia (coke import agancy) brings tons of drugs in like i said its all about makeing us totaly dependant on them our saviors, like after they crash the $ they will come in as our saviors with a global $, fema camps, and forced imunzation http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=obama+decep...
Me and my fiancee are organic farmers also, the public needs to wake up and see what this OBUMA WORLD is going to do to farmers, people don't stop and think where their food or clothes comes from, nothing in his bills will help the farmer, but honestly WE DON"T want obuma's help for anything, we will continue to farm like my family has done for generations, I just wish the public would wake up and support their local farmers and NOT OBUMA.
I think it is time for us all to calm down and listen to our elected officials. Barney Frank has publicly stated that we should not reward incompetence. I say we don't. Vote them all out. Vote only for those willing to pass term limits.
I know this will sound stupid but… while The Gov't ir rushing thru another emergency bill to help us…aren't they the same ones who pay farmers not to plant? The ones who ship our food overseas and theirs over here? The ones who are demanding corn for ethanol? The very ones who put the chemical and preservatives in the food that causes the health problems ? I just want to continue growing my fruits an vegs and raise a few chickens. Wish there were a plae to by fresh milk and cream
Now first lets look at the reality of our form of government. We are a republic. The States have rights over the Fed. This is a power grab that favors comercial opperations ther by controling the food Source which is what a socialist Government Needs in order to force the people into compliance you will do most anything when your starving to death even admit yourself into a fema camp to get food. Further more this seems to be set to make sure the sponsors husbands buisness sees a definite boom. This is clasic Socialism with special favors for the Rulling class built in. Dont be foolled this will end for ever the days of Farmers Markets and fresh Food stands everywhere. Urge your representative to vote against this act.
The States have rights over the Fed? I think that principle was thrown out in the War Between the States. We have been walking further and further away from the vision of our founding fathers for quite some time now. And we seem to be running at full-tilt now.
I think that the people commenting on this particular topic should organize to help fight this bill. Absolutely, this is top priority. Let's get our s*** together on this one, ok
Big Ag corporations partnered with government want to destroy small producers. Monsanto, Cargill, Tyson, etc.,partnered with the USDA, have previously provided the model for this legislation. It has caused outrage amongst livestock owners, many of us fighting to keep our livelihood or lifestyles, rights, and at times composure.
This is like the National Animal Identification System (NAIS), only for plants. I see the familiar words "premises" and "stakeholder". Registering your property with the government as a "premises", complete with GPS coordinates, surrenders one's rights as a property owner and subjects you to government intrusion and all further rules and regulations they may slam you with in the future. As for stakeholder, the government has not contributed a dime towards feeding my critters, therefore Uncle Sam gets no stake in them, nor are they part of the "national herd".
Of course our government claims plant and animal gestapo are needed for our safety. I remember the words of Ben Franklin:"Those who would sacrifice essential liberties for the sake of safety deserve neither liberty nor safety".
Please folks, do contact your legislators, send their canned responses back to them, and tell them to start representing we the people rather than enslaving the people. We do not need the government to make growing gardens or raising livestock impossible for Americans.
Eileen, this INCLUDES NAIS. Says so right in the bill, in the section about reviewing existing laws. Interesting, considering that NAIS is NOT mandatory in the majority of the country and there are still many of us fighting hard against it. This is NOT just about farmers, this includes ANYTHING that goes into the food chain. The "Administrator", appointed by Obama, will be in charge of, well, pretty much anything and everything. This is an atrocity and we can not and will not let it happen. They want to use a crisis to shove their agenda down our throats. Maybe it's time to give them a NEW crisis to worry about.
I haven't done much research on this, but I read an article that said land ("premises") registered with the government will be included in the Lands Preservation Act and will be used to collateralize the bailouts.
You are very correct, the bill is another approach to a mandatory NAIS. The government is after grandma's tomato plants as well as her laying hens. They are simultaneously shoving too many of their socialist agendas down our throats, and it is hard to fight them all.
I have also heard farms registered as a "premises" will be used as collateral as well as our National Parks, forests etc. Derry Brownfield wrote a very interesting article about it.
As for more reasons to never never register your property as a "premises" with the government, see R-CALF USA's website. Click on animal id, and they have an article about 10 reasons not to get a premises id.
I wonder how many government agents are going to be attacked with garden implements. Tractors preferred.
Man oh man….sounds to me like those in the FDA and the USDA are becoming overburdoned by peanut butter and now need another branch of government to watch over crops. How about let's create the Federal Footwear Protection Agency so our shoe purchases are overseen by experts in Washington so as to prevent us from buying shoes that may hurt our feet. That ought to create at least another 150-200 government jobs that can soak up some stimulus money and add to the "four million" jobs created by this administration.
Apologies up front for the cynicism, but this simply sounds to me like The Government in Quantum Leaps…
Folks get ready this is only the begining!!! As we speak there are alot of small dairy farmers wondering how they are going to make it to the end of the year. We are seeing some of the lowest prices for our milk in 20 years. While our expenses are higher then ever!!!! The food industry places by its own set of rules in poltices. Free or Cheap food has been a ploy to get many bad politictions elected. We really need a good connection between consumers and farmers to help educate the public on the true story behind your food.Corporate agriculture is more curpt then any banking or investment company out there!!!!! As far a migrant workers legal or not, they are getting harder to find. My brother inlaw raises tomatoes and the last two years they have had to use work release inmates to harvest. besides we as a country would starve to death without these workers because you cant get Americans to harvest lettice or work in a peanut butter plant!
I'm assuming you are a dairy producer. Are you pro-NAIS?
farmerfrank, I have to agree with your post, but, one area of concern to me is the migrant worker issue, we've had several issues here in Texas and of course I can only speak for my area, but both foodborne and by simply handling the food after a migrant worker has led to illness, my point is supervision-serious supervision is necessary, Now, the Feds want to take over the industry without addressing these issues. I am fully aware that this country very well might starve to death if migrant workers do not hit our fields running, I feel that welfare recipients need to be drug tested before they can receive a check that means at least monthly, and they need to replace the migrant workers in the fields, unfortunately recipients vote Democratically and forcing welfare workers to work in fields to earn their own keep would mean they would switch their votes so the Democrats will not have it, so we're back to the migrant workers and the current administration finding a way to control the industry and make money off of it at the same time. And, can you share with everyone exactly why milk is so cheap?
I disagree with the suggestion that you can't get Americans to harvest lettuce and work in peanut butter plants you can, just not for what you pay the migrant workers.
Do you think Glenn could organize a march on DC? Non-violent civil disobedience! A sit down strike in the halls and chambers of Congress and in front of the gates to the White house?
Please tell me yes, I will be there no problem, I will volunteer to gas up a bus.
What good would it do? the people in power could care less. The more power the unintelligent save me from myself masses give the government the more apparent it will become that only an armed revolution can stop this madness. However our evil corrupt government knows this, first they will take control of the food supply, then they will take away our guns, after all that freedom of speech and our right to assemble. I hate to say it but at this point without a war and massive loss of life America will die and I cannot begin to think of a greater loss to the cause of freedom. Mark my words it is unavoidable it is inevitable. America started to die when the Unintelligent, uneducated Left Voted themselves a leader they thought would bring change, and he will just not change America needs or even wants.
I was born and raised on a dairy farm and currently practice as a veterinarian for dairy farmers. The consequences of this legislation are broad-reaching. Unfortunately, we can blame this legislation on the failures of a few farmers and processors that have resulted in death, excessive media coverage, and public panic. Justified? You be the judge. Fortunately, U.S. agriculture is good at problem recognition and self-regulation. My biggest concern with this government, is that they fail to see agriculture as a vital segment of our national wealth. The vitality of U.S. agriculture is a national security issue. As more farms fail, we become more dependent on other countries to feed our population.
I actually just saw a video and looked up this bill. I was actually shocked by who shared the information with me. I have a friend on Facebook who classifies herself as a "blue dog" Dem, but she is a gardener, and is very unhappy with the spending sprees in Washington. While she and I have gone back and forth about other things, instead of me bringing something to her attention, she did it this time. This just shows that the outrage is spreading.
This bill amounts to nothing more than more regulation on top of regulation. I do think it is a start of food supply control, if they make it harder for people to grow organically, could they come to your home and control your own private garden? Maybe. To think the unthinkable, of course it's possible. This is a bill to make a call on. After watching the short video on YouTube, I decided I will either shoot off an email or make a call to the two Florida Reps that are sponsoring this one.
Here is a link from GovTrack on this one: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill...
Yes, lets organize. I don't feel I want to put my email out there. I'm wondering how we can all connect to fight this and organize a strategy.
I have suggested this is top priority for organizing our groups. Absolutely we need total focus on combating the death of this bill.
I emailed my congressman about this bill last week, haven't heard back(I checked the box to get a reply), so I will have to email again. I also decided to hit the White House site and email them too. I am a small farmer so am very concerned about this.
Well, regardless of your explictness, it's scarey to me. I read WND and it's incomprehensible to me. No doubt, when they shut down food production, the first step in gross intimidation, there will be mass chaos (I use this polite word rather than something more specific)
Yeah, explicit for a reason, michelle.
EVIL belongs in HELL.
I am DONE being nice—and that includes DONE being nice by giving the EVIL LEFT COMFORT IN MY SOFTENED EUPHEMISMS.

GO TO HELL UNCLE SUGAR—I DON"T WANT TO LIVE ON YOUR PLANTATION!!!!!!!!!
awesome!
Oh I see now that the U.S. has the FATTEST and UNHEALTHIEST people in the world (High fructose corn syrup) government is going to ride in and save the day! Thank God! How did I make it this long without them?
I wonder how many people are beginning to agree with Rush Limbaugh's statement about hoping that President Barack Obama's policies will fail.
Oh boy…here we go again. The government needs to be involved less, not more, in our daily lives. Take a look at Principle 9: The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me. This legislation is clearly in opposition to that principle. It's just more red tape, more hoops for people to go through just to do their work. I understand that you're worried about the food, but come on! Why do we need so much extra red tape! Let the farmers do the work they've been doing for God-knows how long!
The "We Surround Them" get togethers and the "tea parties" are a great start. I don't know about you, but for me, it's been impossible to speak to my representatives and everything I've mailed to them, I have received a "canned" response that didn't even begin to answer my concerns. If the government is unwilling to listen to us as individuals, we need to take it to them via the people…millions of us demanding that our voices be heard. This speaks to Rule #9…The government works for me/us…I/we don't work for the government.
This has to stop, With the way things have been going we can save money by growing our own food. Who do these folks think they are? STOP THEM NOW.
The new world order figures have stated hundreds of times in publications and speeches that the goal is an 80% reduction in population worldwide. One way they are doing it is a full assault on food. Find a movie called "The World According to Monsanto" if you really want your eyes opened. Folks it's almost time to take back D.C. by force, every single day we are barraged by unconstitutional bills and rhetoric. Congress doesn't do a single thing we want, and don't forget that Congress IS the most powerful branch of government for a reason, IT REPRESENTS THE PEOPLE. Wake up people, get pissed and get active!!!
please all the people on this particular topic, let's get organized and beat this thing. Forget AIG – it's beating a dead horse. Let's think about things closer to home and our tummies
You are so right. Also see the documentary "The Future of Food". That doc will really make you mad and open your eyes to how big corporations like Monsonto do not care about us as people and our health. They put farmers out of business with their patented seeds that get spread by wind etc. They are really shady and care not at all for our health only profits.
Ya the New World Order would eliminate most of us, put the rest of the few in a small place as sustainable developement to live and starve our way through life. We do NOT need more regulations, we need more people with intgrity and honesty. Years ago I saw a book in an airport I wish I had purchased. As I scanned the pages I remember this statement "The more a country tries to legislate honesty and integrity, the less freedom there is."
The governement in Washington does not care about the little people. They care about their big pay checks and bribes. How could ANYONE in America, pass that kind of law except they are treasonous ? ? ? A TRUE American would protect and love his neighbor not pass laws to starve or elimate small farmers.
What these clowns are doing in Washtingon is more destructive to our lives that Benedict Arnold — we need to oust them all, exile them all and take THEIR spoils from dishonesty against us Americans, RETURN America to the ideals of our founding fathers – - round up the bilderbergers, the rothchilds and the likes and feed them the non-nutritious foods they are trying to shove down our throats — !!!
Government creates problems where there are no problems, then sets down its predetermined "solutions" in the guise of altruism. America has passed the Seed of Life to man, and so, will reap his harvest.
I think Obummer needs to stop whining in a manner which suggests that he has anything to worry about where food safety is concerned. His daughters are accompanied by a Secret Service Agent who will, if necessary, act as official taster.
Lets look at a chain analysis of this legislation should it pass. All these proposed rules WILL put down small growers. They won't be able to pay the expenses involved in updating their operations to comply. What will be left are deep pocket corporations able to manage all these expenses. I'm sure you've all heard the old addage about crap rolling downhill. This is a perfect illustration. I can foresee a possible 20% increase in the cost of food from all sources. The reason is twofold: with the small operations dead, there is less food. Supply/demand dictates that prices MUST rise. Production costs have now increased, but its bad business to eat this expense. All these costs will be passed to the consumer as well. I don't think it will be any fun at all being run over by the huge ball of crap Obummer sent down the hill at us.
Rise up. It's now time to be counted. This is the worst kind of invasion of our rights I can imagine.
Seems to me that there is a lot of property seizure in a lot of the bills that are proposed. Complete take over is threatening us all. We've got to do something folks. We can't sit here and take all of this control on our lives. I think most of us agree that we need to do something. We just need direction.
I agree TXartst. Finally the news is coming out about the food supply control….There have been folks working against the NAIS for quite some time now…be aware that this is NOT something new, had been in the works for about 10 years now. I emailed Glenn back 2-3 years ago about it.
While I do think the food poisoning cases are real, I question the source, and the keystone cops act of finding the origins. I do not put it past our government for one second to cause the outbreaks, then use it as a way to gain control of the food supply.
The government is completely overstepping its boundaries. This is agregious! Small farms make up many jobs in America. With one hand they try to creat jobs, and now they're shutting down thousands of small businesses with this? The government is no longer for the people, and certainly not by the people. What we need is a Social Revolution like that which is being staged with this project to try and make people have a sense that their life means something, and that their values can make a difference. It really is sickening that the massive amount of the population is laying down and taking something like this, or even that most of the population doesn't even know about it! People have to have a sense of personal duty to country, and not just through paying taxes, if we ever want to recover the economy at a point where it will stay.
It looks to me #9 solves it's problem. One more step from the GOVERNMENT.
What do you think that the best plan of action should be?
Should we organize petitions and spread the word, write and call our representatives, is there another option?
My husband and I have begun to plant a garden in our backyard so that we can be as self-reliant as possible. I don't see how they can keep up from sharing with family, friends and neighbors. But the idea that our local farmers market would be hit, disgusting.
I am convinced that some people have absolutely no conscience. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
I am calling and writing my state representatives. Hopefully that's a good start. But it certainly also makes sense to spread the word, particulary to all the small growers/organic farmers that you know. If this wasn't so serious, I would find it comical that most of the small farmers/growers in my area are liberals. And "their" MSM isn't going to report this so they probably won't know unless we tell them.
The Federal Government is surely overstepping here. States already have regulations in place for food production and sales for small growers. As I understand the current law, the feds only inspect when food produced within state is sold/marketed out-of-state. And that's as it should be. If the Feds had been doing their job, there wouldn't have been a problem with the peanut farmer and salmonella. The Federal government needs to leave the small grower/farmer/producer alone and let the states continue to regulate them. I make my living baking pies and my husband grows and sells fruits and vegetables during farmer's market months. We are licensed, regulated and inspected by the State of Maine. And that's as it should be as well. We don't need anyone else telling us how to do business.
Since I can seem to reply to comments made to my original comment…. The full text of the bill is availble at:

Our rights are being stolen right out from under our noses with legislation that appears to protect us from those evils like second hand smoke (to begin with, who wouldn't want that) and unsafe food, no health insurance, energy shortages, and let's not forget all the causes of global warming like fuel emmissions and cow farts. This food safety thing is just one more step in the power grab. There's another one every day. I'm mad as hell!
There is also some legislation going around to require ranchers and farmers to tag their livestock with RFID tags so they can be tracked. Apparently, according to this legislation if you own any livestock(Horses included), and take it off your property, you must notify the federal government.
Yes, you are correct. It is the NAIS (National Animal Identification System). It has been in the works for years. Not only must you notify the USDA if an animal leaves the premises, you have 24 hours to do so, and non-compliance will get you fined $1000 per DAY. In addition the USDA can come on your property anytime it wants and confiscate all your animals for no reason at all. So far this includes horses, poultry (including), cattle, swine, sheep, llamas, etc. So if you have JUST ONE chicken, you would have to tag it.
People here have been working against the NAIS: http://nonais.org/ There are other sites as well, but take a look folks, this subject is important and is finally getting the attention it needs.
http://www.r-calfusa.com is also a good place for information about NAIS. NAIS recently had a hearing in the House Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry and we have until THIS FRIDAY to fax them as many letters as possible. The Subcommittee members during the hearing showed that they are completely ignorant and gladly choose to remain so, only taking seriously the people who tell them what they want to hear. This includes the huge corporations and tag companies that stand to make billions off of this while pushing the costs onto the producers. Once this thing gets into Congress, there is no hope. They already snuck in $14.5 million in the stimulus bill for it.
Explain to me, if this is really for disease control (particularly foot and mouth) why alpacas are included? When they do not enter the food chain and can't get foot and mouth? Why you have to register your PREMISE, not PROPERTY, instead of just your contact information? And why USDA can never give a straight answer?
Its about time.Ranchers have been trying to get this going since Clinton. The RFID tags would let the costomer pick from whitch country there meat comes from. The horse thing is kind of silly. As of the takeing your anminal off your property, you now have to get a permit to leave your county, but your property? How would they inforce it? This is the same goverment who paid $600 for a toilet seat.
There is also some legislation going around to require ranchers and farmers to tag their livestock with RFID tags so they can be tracked. Apparently, according to this legislation if you own any livestock(Horses included), and take it off your property, you must notify the federal government.
For a long time people have been saying that "Emergencies" would be used to erode our rights. 9/11(Patriot Act), Food Poisoning(Food Safety Act), Hurricane Katrina(FEMA "Camps"), Violence in Mexico(Gun Bans), Glenn Beck(Fairness Doctrine)! We may not think Glenn is an emergency, but I guess the Government does!!
Soylent Green anyone???? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent_Green
The ultimate socialist recycling program.. perfect way to go 'green'…. ack..
where can we read about the act?
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill...
We need to draw a line in the sand now in which we will not allow to be crossed. And then after identifying your limits design follow up actions regarding the potential trespass.
I fear this is the beginning of an attempt to control the food supply. I know it sounds all conspiracy nut and everything but its crazy how the husband of the congress woman that came up with this is a big wig at Monsanto "the world's leading producer of herbicides and genetically engineered seed". So they tell us what we can and cant grow now and I bet that makes it much easier to tell us we can only grow the Genetically engineered seed because its "safe" and oh by the way, who has the pattent on these new seeds? yeah, I see where this is going. These dorks in congress make me so mad.
It IS a conspiracy! And it's our job to stop this legislation. I want to organize in DC with all our gardening tools to show them we're not giving up our gardens.
You are not paranoid if they really ARE out to get you…
Controlling the banks is not enough – they need to control the food as well, add to this funding planned parenthood (population control), and it starts to become increasingly difficult to see where Obama ends and Chairman Mao begins…
But after all – they are just looking out for us poor dumb masses who are too ignorant to see for ourselves how dangerous eating is…
They only try to regulate it because they have not figured out a way to tax it yet…
You know what the globalist Henry Kissinger has said in the past: When you control the food you control the people. I am starting to believe the conspiracy!
more control legislation that violatets the constitution !
Simply amazing they feel the need to even entertain the idea we need further restrictions and regulations on how are food is processed and handled…. { last year tomatoes, spinach, peanut butter and there buy products} all resulted in serious illness or death for many……The current FEDERAL INSPECTORS cannot keep and inspect and regulate what is going on now…
This would force small farms, small orchards and even stop people from being allowed to grow gardens in their yards and give the abundance to friends, or charitable organizations, churches who all do help the homeless and others in need, during trying times……They would be forced to solely depend on Government to provide vegetables and fruits…..
GOVERNMENT Stay out of our life’s…we do not need your continued mismanaged intervention! Leave the Farmers to do what they do best!……
I buy beef from a friend who raises a few head of cattle on their acreage. The proposed regulation sounds like it will stop this small business. I grow my own berries and vegetables and share the surplus with family and friends. Is this going to be monitored by the government.
Is the flag still flying over the post office? We better go check, where has my country gone?
Be aware of The Global Poverty Act! This had Senator Barack Obama as the chief sponsor, so it has big backing. It was one of the Senator’s last efforts in his Senate office, and Joe Biden is a co-sponsor. The Bill promises 0.7% of the US GNP (~$845 billion commitment) "over and above what the U.S. already spends” as "official development assistance."
Per Cliff Kincaid at Accuracy in Media, the Bill promises to adhere to “U.N. protocols [that] would make U.S. law on issues ranging from the 2nd Amendment to energy usage and parental rights all subservient to United Nations whims”.
Here is the bill’s timeline as documented by Wikipedia. I do not know the status of the bill today.
•Mar 1, 2007: Introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Congressman Adam Smith.
•Jul 31, 2007: Scheduled for debate in the House.
•Sep 25, 2007: Passed in the House of Representatives by voice vote.
•Sep 26, 2007: Received in the Senate and read twice; referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations.
•Feb 13, 2008: Committee on Foreign Relations. Ordered to be reported with amendments favorably.
•Apr 24 2008: Committee on Foreign Relations. Reported by Senator Biden with amendments and an amendment to the title. With written report No. 110-331. Placed on Senate Legislative Calendar under General Orders.
Control guns, food and the banks. Then you have the people in bondage completely…But we are Americans…I think they stepped in it. We are fighters and a lot of us are looking for a face to punch. The face looks like Uncle Sam himself. Get ready Mr. Government…we are organizing to take back our Country.
I sincerely hope is fails before it ever hits the floor of the house or the senate. The farming side of my family would be crushed under such legislation, and to be honest it would be the death of small farms across this great country.
It seems more and more to me like our government is wanting to recreate Zimbabwe in the USA.
I believe principle number nine answers this for us. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me. How can taxing and seizing property from the workers of small farms do any good? My grandfather, may he rest in peace, would have had to deal with this ridiculous law. The only thing this law does is help out the giant agri-business. They don't need help!
You are 110% correct when you say that this is to protect AgriBusiness. I am a small scale farmer and the onerous regulations will bankrupt many of my nighbors. GOOD FOR CONAgra, BELIEVE ME.
I simply DO NOT INTEND TO COMPLY. Not now. Not EVER.
Just like I don't comply with the NSAID program that DEMANDS that I tag EVER SINGLE CHICK BORN ON MY FARM WITH A SERIAL NUMBERED leg band.
EVERY. SINGLE. BABY. CHICK.
Do you GET that?
I will grow food for grateful neighbors when they are hungry and Uncle Sugar and his stupid laws can GO. STRAIGHT. TO. HELL.
The big guys have the lobbyist. Our Government has been watching out for the big guys forever. I don't expect to see that chains with BO. Lets face it, they want provide food for us too. Police States are not very friendly. We are only good for the money, and that will make it to the Fed or the IMF. We will consume everything on the Governments terms soon.
Our fine Democratic Congressman here in NC once made the comment that the people suffered because we didn't have powerful lobbyists representing the people at large. He was silenced and embarrassed by the simple question from one bright young woman in the audience when she asked "isn't that YOUR job?"
Am I the only one to find irony in the fact that the Government wants to strictly regulate our food and prosecute those who don't wash their hands before they pick their lettuce – and then turn around and seek to shield drug companies from any litigation when their latest half-tested wonder drug starts killing people off?
Here in NC they have already made it illegal to buy fresh milk (I would call it udderly ridiculous, but that would be silly)…I suppose the next step is to have official agents of the government seated at every dinner table in America, prepared to arrest anyone who eats a non-government sanctioned tomato… perhaps we can have them cut our crusts off of our sandwiches for us as well, and tuck us in an read a politically correct bedtime tory to us every night…
Where is my teabag…
And now the government wants to control our agriculture. Multi million dollar fines and property seizures, the small farmer is barely getting by as it is. The red tape alone will shut them down.
we don't have to tolerate this. Instead of tea bags, we need to show up with our gardening tools at DC – shovels, rakes, wheel barrows, pitch forks.
I first read about this food safety act when a thread appeared on another forum. The whole act is silly on so many levels and completely counterproductive.
An increase in regulation on growers decreases the desire to grow. Furthermore, there are clauses in the Act which also regulate the end sellers and preparers of food. This is completely destroying the incentive of ANYONE to provide fresh foods to the American People.
Then we face the problem of increasing "greenhouse gases" emissions that all the Demon-rats are so worried about. It would be very difficult to increase oversight without driving more miles and using more fossil fuels. But really the above two issues are relatively minor problems.
The worst part of all this is the fact that local fresh food economies will be completely destroyed. I know I get most my fresh fruit and vegetables from a many who drives around in an old U-haul truck. He buys his products from the local growers in the area. You know what, I have never gotten sick from these products, yet the new bill makes doing this nearly illegal. It is sad really…. This is just another way for the government to control it's minions.
I am an Organic farmer and do direct marketing. This new legislation is designed to destroy my and other like minded businesses. This is being done NOT for food safety(organic beef and other meats raised on pasture has less e-coli than big farm meats- often no deadly strains at all).
No this is being done under the guise of food safety but is made for Monsanto, ADM and the like. You see they cannot compete in the Organic Market nor can they compete with the fresh local food initiative therefore, they have conspired with the Obama Admin to destroy what they cannot takeover.
Just when it looked good for the small family farmer we have the US gov.t once again siding with big corporate farms.
If the people of this country do not stop this everything you eat will come from a machine mechanical farm with no regard for quality.
English small scale farmers have already been put out of business by the regulations there.
The love affair between Monsanto and other huge agri-corporations and our corrupt government has been going on a lot longer than what Obama has been around. This has been building for decades, a little at a time. I am so glad that folks are waking up to this.
THIS we don't HAVE to tolerate. Come on folks O-R-G-A-N-I-Z-E on this one.
Give them in inch and they will take a mile. What is next????
We need to first understand where this whole idea originated, that being the recent peanut butter contamination of massive proportions. Those very peanut companies were SUPPOSE to be inspected by Federal inspectors aong with peanut producing companies lack of self-supervision, have sickened and killed many. Hence the "new food safety act". What an opportunity for the Government to take over an entire industry and make money while doing it. The true issue here is ILLEGAL immigrant workers. Did we have these issues seven, even ten years ago? No, when mass migrants came to our fields and food factories we started getting sick, I am not blaming Illegals, they do what they do when not supervised, but here in Texas we've been told numerous times that we "have to be nice to illegals" because they have full contact with our food. Both peanut facotries had numerous migrant workers employed there. They do not have the same food handling standards as we expect when not supervised closely. Fight this simutanelously with immigration these issues are connected and by the government taking control of it they will manage to hide the true reason we're all getting sick.
So instead of making those that should be responsible for laws and regulations that already exist, they want to put tighter regulations into place? That's just adding bureaucracy on top of incompetence.
I would have to agree with you. The quality of everything in this country has gone to hell since illegals have taken over all these jobs and there is no supervision of what they are doing.
WE have to make sure it fails. I suggest we organize, choose a day in the very near future, and show up in DC with our gardening tools and also if we can bring our tomato, pepper and other veggie plants, the more the better. Let's get on this one. And how do we really know this wasn't an organized attempt to scare the hell out of us with the peanut butter?
Rick, I am new here so please excuse the intrusion. Let me begin by thanking you for your service and sacrifices.
I believe the official gov. agents you refer to will be our children. You only have to look at our public schools to see the indoctrination. For Pres. Day at my son's school the only pictures I saw were of obama. The Pediatricians already ask the kids if there are any guns in your house!
This bill is very dangerous as it has NO minimum sizes in its definitions. The smallest food production facility is simply referred to as any farm, orchard, vineyard, aquaculture facility or animal containment center. How many acres makes a farm 1,10, 100…. How many animals make you a containment facility 4 chickens in a coop, more, less. There is an equal amount of ambiguity when it comes to food preparation facilities.
Under this bill,as I read it, if you made zucchini bread for your church's after service coffee, your home kitchen may need a registration number. If someone gets sick from your dessert you could face up to 5yrs in Federal prison and a $1M fine. All violations need to be appealed to the FSA Czar within 3 days or the ruling he makes is final. No Judicial Appeal. Now I last read this bill when it was in committee (via Thomas) so they may have cleaned it up a bit.
To the uneducated news viewer we would look pretty kooky holding off Federal Officers with a shotgun because they wanted to inspect our home garden or canning operation. They will use this bill to brand us as radicals, Survivalists or what ever new description fits. Remember if they can register every producer, processor and supplier of food in this country, THEY control the food supply.
"Never waste a crisis"
