You know what? This is the first time in my life that I really feel the election was fixed. I wondered about it with Bush and Gore but I'm convinced now. I spoke with a huge number of people and only about 10 percent of them wanted to vote for Nobama. The majority did NOT vote him in office. PERIOD!!! Just my opinion
I think you missed the point; Buckwheet claimed that crime had spiraled since handguns were banned. The two are not related since Brits essentially never did possess handguns in any significant number in the first place.
I did not address the concept that owning a firearm makes you safer. Over the years I have changed my mind on this and now believe that it does. But I also agree with another poster elsewhere that stated if you aren't prepared to pull the trigger on another human being, then owning the gun doesn't make you any safer.
and the sheep dog should be the government, but aparently the dog went to sleep and we may have to protect ourselves Hence we need guns
Guns are for hunting and protection. We may need to protect our selves when our local, state and federal government won't protect us. Example our southern border. The drug dealers and illegals are running wild and the government does nothing except worrie about Fourign Relations. They are more concerned with their image instead of our safty. So if you live near the border you would be safer, having a gun and be able to protect yourself. We have been waiting for the government to close the border since 9/12/01. They haven't done it yet Letting our perverbial butts hanging out.
When I was young my Dad took us out to show us how to use a gun wuth care then he took us to a local gun safety class then he took us hunting. for me I like to have a gun simply so I can hunt for my own food if need be. I may not always be able to afford to go to the store to buy meat. It is so expensive even now.
>Why do ordinary people who obey the law feel they must have a gun?
for the same reason that we own cars where there is a mass transit system.
Kathy, We do not have to have or need guns to protect ourselves YET but believe me the time IS coming.
As we move forward we will see more and more politicans calling for bans on certian weapons and as they get bans on certian types then they will expand the bans. Just like Hitler did in Germany.
I have always had guns for hunting and target pratice, just fun things. Now I have a hand gun in my car and will keep it there because it is not safe to be anywhere without protection. and of course I am excersing my right as a citizen. Of course the bad guys know that we are now protecting ourselves as never before!
As for Cincinnatti you are no different than ANY city, there will be killings until God comes back , when HE will put his laws into force and we will NOT have guns any more. Read your Bible, It is a road map for the future. Just remember that the FALSE Christ will appear first and will have all the answers for this world except he will be a liar! and all the world will follow after him. Then the TRUE Christ will come and usher in the 1000 years of peace. Check it out. Start with MARK 13.
I was one of the speaker at the Cincinnati Tea Party and I was overwhelmed by by the larger number of Americans who stand there and demonstrated that they have more respect for the constitution then most of the elected in Washington have.
Talking there about my personal, first hand experience with a political system where Freedom is an unknown word. Where fear about nearly everything you do could bring you in prison and uncertainty about your families and you personal future was the daily life. I feel called to tell the American people wake up. Don't let it happen that the current financial situation allows the liberal government – which is clearly socialistic oriented – distract your attention from their political agenda. Undermining the second amendment, implementing the so called FAIRNESS doctrine which is nothing but killing your first amendment and put the so called FREE CHOICE ACT in to law which is nothing else than empowering the corruptest organization on earth – the union of the bureaucrats – without limits to ruin your country.
You want to know how they can do it? Listen to my next speech
Harald
Cathy, please don't get this wrong. No one is saying you don't have a right NOT to own a gun… but there are those of us who do, and that is our right. Does the Constitution say that gives us the right to murder? No. The right to keep and bear arms…. as others here have said, to protect us from a tyrranical government that is bent on controlling every aspect of our lives. It has to stop. We have to get back to the rights, principles and values that the men who shaped this country held dear. I am PROUD of my country…. but I am ASHAMED of the government we have today. And I will NOT give up my right to bear arms….
As for your post, Cathy….. a famous quote for you… I disagree with your point of view, but I will defend to the DEATH your right to express it.
Thanks for posting…
I just joined the 912 project -thank you Glenn Beck for caring about our country @ what's right @ true!
I have owned guns my whole life, but i also know that its pointless to carry one in public or even outside your own home because correct me if im wrong if i shoot and kill someone outside of my home, im going to prison law abiding citizens do not do well in prison. I do not agree with the law but it is considered murder, at least it is in Louisiana as far as i know. Now if my family is threatened i would shoot to kill and go to prison selflessly, shouldn't there be laws to protect the use of a firarm in extreme cases of self defense, or is there?
Be sure to get proper training
Hey teethareus, go to reteaparty.com Thats the American Tea Party. They have a map of the USA, click on your state and it will show you where they are in your state.
Since Right To Carry has been in place (some 10 years or so now) There's Not One Incident of A Right To Carry Holder Being Involved In A Gun Crime. That Is A TRUE FACT. Another TRUE FACT Crime has dropped in Right To Carry States.
A FACT THAT IS NOT WELL KNOWN BUT NEEDS TO BE. SPREAD THIS. MORE NEED TO KNOW.
Excuse Me! But Without Guns You Wouldn't Be Where You At Today Missy! The Second Amendment: The RIGHT To Bear Arms protects all of your RIGHTS and Our Founding Fathers knew that! But the Real Reason Is For Us Patriot Americans to Defend Ourselves Against A Tyrannical Government! Such As We Have Now! Have you ever shot a gun? If Not, please you need to go to the nearest Gun Club and learn to shoot. Because you will be the one left high & dry when crap breaks loose in this Country. When You Outlaw Guns, ONLY THE OUTLAWS HAVE GUNS.
BECAUSE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS SHOULD HAVE THE BASIC RIGHT TO PROTECT THEMSELVES. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FINE BUT ME AND MILLIONS OF OTHER HUMANS WILL!

The people who voted for King Obama voted for him because they believed everything he said ,and they voted out of hate for the republican party. They didn't vote for the best man. How could they No one knows who this man really is, he speaks well but thats all! He is just a cog in the huge Chicago political machine(Corrupt).
owe-bumma and hitler are one! Both are charismatic when they speak, just watch the old news reels. Both can entice a crowd and when they give their speech it's nothing but empty promises to the sheeple.
You are so right!

LOCKS ON DOORS AND WINDOWS KEEP HONEST PEOPLE HONEST AND A THREAT OF HARM KEEPS SOMEONE FROM BREAKING INTO MY HOUSE. ! PROPERLY TRAINED AND PROPERLY EDUCATED PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE FEARED UNLESS ONE IS TRYING TO DO THAT WHICH IS ILLEGAL, IMMORAL OR DISHONEST ! THE SAD FACT IS THAT TOO MANY OF THE PEOPLE OF THE U.S. ARE NO LONGER EDUCATED IN THE IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS OF THIS COUNTRY AND THEREFORE, THEY ARE WILLING TO GIVE AWAY THAT WHICH THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEY HAVE.
If guns were not the issue, other weapons would be. The constitution grants us the right to bear arms, but not the right to shoot innocent people. In the overall scope of things, there are millions of Americans that own guns and don't kill people. I don't believe that our basic rights should not be changed in order to try to keep guns out of criminals' hands. Criminals will find a way to enact violence. That doesn't mean that all potential weapons should be banned, including guns.
Why would you use a seat belt in your car or helmet on a motorcycle. They are also useless if you don't plan to be in an accident. I carry a concealed weapon 24 7 for the same reason I wear a seat belt in my car and helmet on my bike. I think the concealed weapon is a much greater safety devise than either the seat belt or helmet.
I think this sums up the answer to your question!
Why I Carry a Gun. Author – Anonymous
I don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.
I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry because there are real threats in the world.
I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.
I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.
I don't carry a gun because I hate the governmen. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.
I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.
I I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.
I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.
I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.
I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.
I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.
Hey;
Please lets work hard to find a different person to represent us at all levels. We have to let them feel the pain from our side of the fence and take away the security that they are feeling right now. They feel untouchable and that's not good. Winston Churchill said "A Government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul". That statement has so much truth in it right now that I'm afraid of how much Government is about to come down on us. We have to start now and the next elections should tell us what gains we are producing. I Love this Country and my fathers before me Loved it as well. I think I have to stand up and help take it back from the Communistic ways that are being put in place as we speak. Please don't quit and find away to be happy and productive. God Bless America and may WE THE PEOPLE KEEP HER STRONG. Thank you
I received an e-mail this week asking me to send 1 tea bag to the White House on April 1st which I will do and sent the e-mail on. I wonder if it will be on the news "millions of tea bags" hit the White House? If nothing else I guess it will stimulate the postal system, another government entity.
Ruth,
I heard today that the Gov't is throwing the tea bags away. It seems they are afraid of the possibility of "foreign" substances. Just send the tea bag tag and string. I think (hope) they will understand the message. This way they do not have to fear that we are trying to harm them. Strange how they worry so much about themselves but don't give a rat's a__ about the death threats to the AIG bonus recipients.
I just recently bought (legally) a gun and I am stockpiling ammo. WHY? I heard that the suppliers of the raw materials are doing 85-90 % business with the Gov't. Makes sense. Most suppliers are out of stock of the ammo for the private gun owners. These boneheads on the Hill know that if they try to confiscate our guns, there will be hell to pay. BUT, they also know that a gun without bullets is the same as no gun at all.
I hope to GOD we can turn this mess around, but I fear that time is running out. So, "giving this guy a chance" would surely bring us to the point of no return.
Now is the time – not later. Later may be too late.
with out guns just imagine how brutal the crimes will be then,,,axes, sledge hammers, ball bats, chains, sticks and clubs with rocks,,,,,it would be barbaric
I guess 52% is most of the voting people. But not by much.
This video really makes me even more proud of my Country and the American people. I think those that cannot understand why these parties are taking place simply cannot understand peaceful dissent and peaceful assemblies. When Patriots assemble to promote the core values of America the energy is nothing but positive. Those that have assembled for views on the other side many times resort to violent or overly dramatic displays. The more of these parties that are held, and the more we show that we can peacefully speak our mind the stronger our argument will grow and the bigger our movement will get.
One can stand behind the President, and still peacefully practice dissent of his policies and actions. I commend your service to this country. You are an American hero and I am proud of your voluntary sacrifice for freedom. My grandfather was also a Korean War veteran, and I feel that it is my duty to honor his service by exercising the freedoms he fought for.
New boss, same as the old boss. He can't even keep his promises because he can't remember all the lies
he told and who he told them to. That's what happens when you tell everybody what they want to hear. Eventually
someone is going to ask why you didn't keep any of your promises. I own several weapons and will continue to own them no matter what Obama does.
Glad to see some good footage…. Most footage I have seen has had a strong negative bias from the reporter.
More tea parties are needed. They are not for the ear of the government, though I wish they would listen, but for the ear of the common man. More and more are waking up to the need to stand by their values and principles.
Now I am getting excited for our tea party in Boise on April 15… Time to ring the gong to wake up Idaho to stand for the constitution…
Hi all
What exactly is a tea party? Is there a purpose and a plan, rather than just venting?
What exactly is a tea party? Is there a purpose and a plan, rather than just venting?
It IS AMERICAN PATRIOT'S taking a STAND for what they believe in!
the Tea Party as a symbol of rebellion against the establishment.
Karen,,,,,,,,History, History, History, You must have failed it or just have no desire to know what works and what doesn't work. Taxation without representation does not work, Therfore the great Boston Tea Party took place to make a statement.
As a 22year Navy wife, Mother of 1 Navy and 1 Army and sister to 2 Army vets I am so utterly disappointed in the direction this government is taking.Having read all the commentary here I can only say Tammy was right-on-target about getting appropriate training for use/care of firearms. The government CANNOT be trusted and those of you who profess to be Christians need to take a really close, careful look at what is happening. You have a Christian responsibility for what your money is paying for/supporting and YES! you DO have a choice to NOT INVEST in the flagrant lunacy being perpetrated by Washington Liberals.
No. God help us to help ourselves! Don't forget to attend a Tea Party near you on Tax Day 4/15/09. They are being held all over the nation. We need to stay organized and make sure that we stand up for our rights! We need to hold up signs naming the Congress members who do not represent you and who voted for the latest bill of bull without even reading it! We the people…..
I also suggest that everyone bring video cameras to these events and keep them rolling. We need to be videotaping the media that cover the event so they realize there will be proof out there showing the lies they try to perpetuate. There needs to be documented evidence of their intent from the moment the media arrives on scene.
But we do know him. Isn't it obvious to you what he is about? He is not going to miraculously change his views as time passes on, he will only become more deeper and deeper in bedded in his agenda of socially run programs and bigger government. Trust me and everyone else on this site…this is not what is best for OUR Country!
Simple: to protect ourselves from others who don't obey the law.
With respect, I grew up in the UK. Gun violence was virtually nonexistent. It still is. The crime rate is spiraling for other reasons and most violent crimes are carried out with knives, not guns. (And always have been over there.) The Brits as a nation generally don't own guns, and certainly not handguns which were what the govt. actually banned after the school shooting that triggered the legislation.
It should be obvious to you then, that if someone is intent on doing harm, the mere absence of a gun will not deter them. The presentation of a lawfully carried weapon, on the other hand, would put the odds in favor of the intended victim.
Actually most of my guns are “TOYS”. Some will probably resent that name, but they are paper punchers. I don’t hunt anymore. Getting a bit old. Just like to “PLAY” with my guns.
I reload and consider “Gun Control” to be a very tight grip on my gun.
I do have one “GUN” that is in my bedroom. Self defense, yes , if you break down all three doors to get to me in the bedroom. Otherwise all the others are locked up. You can take the TV in the living room, just stay out of my bedroom.
You want a gun for self defense and have never had one. Ask yourself this all important question. Could you shoot someone? If no, then get a dog. If no and you get a gun you will just be handing over a loaded weapon to the person attacking you.
Ask you self that question first. Then think about it. A long time. Kill someone, even an attacker and you take all they have and are ever going to have as well as effecting everyone around them. Can you live with that. If not you don’t need a gun for protection. Dogs and alarms systems are for you.
Want to punch paper? Join the rest of us and get a bunch of “GUNS”. It’s fun.
In your city as in many others the citizens view of a gun is in the hands of a criminal and the mindset is to get rid of all the guns and reduce the problem. Please study up on the gun laws of Great Britain where your same method was used to reduce crime. They have basically banned all guns except for a few elite rich that can afford to keep their guns in some closet somewhere. The crime rate in that country has gone ballistic and there is no end in sight. Please do a little research, visit a gun club or shooting facility in your area, you will be surprised to find a lot of good people that share your views on crime but will never consider pointing a gun at you. If your city has a shooting crimes problem, you should be considering getting rid of the politicians that sit on their butts afraid to enforce laws that already exist to keep people like yourself safe from the criminals that are responsible for the crimes you mention. It has been said a million times before: "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" That is one thing you can be sure of. I hope things get better in your city.
It's very simple idea Cathy…He who has the gun, makes the rules!
The 2nd amendment was not about bearing arms for hunting, or sport, or even for military use (that being the Gov controlled Military), it was about the people having the means to fight against and/or remove a Government that is no longer working for us or has become a tyrannical regime. It's meant to ensure a level playing field and keep the Government in check.
If you look throughout history, all of the countries who have committed the most outrageous crimes against their own people (Germany, Russia, China, etc…) the 1st steps taken before these crimes where committed by their governments, was to regulate and then remove the peoples abilities to bare arms. Their Governments told them some of the same things we are hearing from our government. "Gun Control makes for a safer society" and "More stringent gun laws will keep guns out of the hands of the criminals!" Which to anyone who thinks clearly, makes no sense, because laws only effect those who abide by them. Criminals don't live by our laws. But, only after these countries removed their arms, were they able to systematically take full control of the governments and in the process murder millions.
That is the reason that it is so important to some of us that we maintain the right to bare arms. It's not about sports, or hunting, or personal defense, to me it's about the ability to defend myself and this country against a tyrannical government. I trust Government less then I trust convicted Felons.
Cathy it is the ordinary people getting mugged and robbed by these gangs. If ordinary people had guns it might stop some of that. The mayor of our town was mugged in his yard by a thug and our mayor is a ordinary guy.Cathy ice picks or any tool can kill you can not ban them. Our ancestors had ole Betsy over their fireplace to protect themselves. The crooks can get weapons I could never purchase and the government can't stop them. The Communists wants as little resistance as possible when they move in and they are coming the President has seen to that.I have a right to my guns our ancrstors fought for that right and I aim to keep that right.
I am a 54 year old man who has never owned a gun. That is about to change. I am fearful of my government and what the new policies are going to do to my country. I live in rural Michigan 40 miles north of Detroit. I fear crime will increase dramatically as new spending kills Michigan's economy. I will buy two pistols and two assault rifles while I still can (My wife is an excellent shot). I will buy as much ammo as I can while I still can. I truly hope to never, ever fire them at anything other than a target, but I was a boyscout. BE PREPARED.
Scared in Michigan
I am a Republican but have never been able to understand the thinking that we, as Americans, need guns to protect ourselves. I know the saying "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." In Cincinnati, Ohio there are at least two or three people shot every day. I believe that if we didn't have so many guns, we wouldn't have so many people killed. Why do ordinary people who obey the law feel they must have a gun?
Precisely because we ARE law abiding. Less than 0.1% of law abiding citizens misuse their guns; it is criminals who use guns and they use them with utter disregard for the 1000s of gun laws on the books… those laws that people like me are so careful to live within. Guns are tools, but they are the ONLY tool enumerated in the Bill of Rights as an inalienable god given right, which by definition cannot be taken away by any entity other than our creator. The founding fathers very clearly acknowledged that gun ownership and marksmanship skills allowed our independence and enforced it. In short, it was included as the 2nd amendment in order to prevent government tyranny.
In a world inhabited by people who have no respect for life, a gun is a great deterrent. The Justice department is loath to admit that simply displaying a gun is sufficient to stop the progression of a crime, but criminals of all kinds will admit this is the case. Furthermore, the police owe you absolutely no duty of protection, so as a self-sufficient person it is your responsibility to come up with some plan to protect your family. You have every right to dislike guns, but don't let your opinions limit my rights.
As for gun crimes in general, they are the highest where the gun rights of citizens are the most restricted, such as in large urban areas, such as Cincinnati. Private gun ownership was enough to deter a Japanese invasion of America during WWII, surely that is enough to consider that legal private gun ownership might have its benefits. If that is still not enough for you, then consider who is trying to limit those rights: elitists who use those same rights for their own personal benefit. Now why would they take away YOUR gun rights, while ensuring their own protection by those same means?
I am a proud gun owner and rifleman. And I teach marksmanship and American Heritage so that others can regain that sense of pride in our country and its struggles.
Cathy, as a husband and father of 2 I have had to defend my family with a firearm, it was the last resort but I had to do what I had to do.
l went to a gun show and bought a pistol and the man asked me why l bought it and l told him to protect my family.
the salesman behind me ask the question to everyone that bought a gun and l will never forget the answer. of the man behind me .So I CAN TAKE WHATEVER I WANT.
as long as their is crime people will be killed. l dont want my guns taken beacause a few have gone on a killng spree and use that as a way to take away my freedom and my love for collecting guns. my guns are secured and i even bought a gun cabinet for my nephew to make sure his is locked up.
try googling fema concentration camps in the united states. look at the new prison, the train cars and the stackes or piles of plastic coffins that our goverment has built for us citizen . l suspect its for everyone that ones a weapon or believes in the second amendent right and cherises their freedom.
Quite simply, Cathy, we have the right, as Americans, to own guns to protect ourselves. At least two or three people are killed every day? By criminals, or by law abiding gun owners? If someone has the intention of killing someone, they are going to, even if that means that they use something else, or get a gun illegally.
I personally am not going to wait around for a police officer to show up if it means a criminal is going to harm my children. My husband and I are the ultimate authority over my family and their safety. The government has no right to come in and tell us that we can't use any means necessary to protect ourselves.
The day may come where we need to protect ourselves from that very Government — and they know that.
>Why do ordinary people who obey the law feel they must have a gun?
Because there are other (sub)ordinary people who want to take what we have; our lives, our property, and our freedoms. Some of us choose to try to keep them from accomplishing their goals. In this world there are sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. We sheepdogs protect the sheep in our care from the wolves.
MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY!
Cathy,
I understand your feelings on this matter. It is at heart a debate that can only be settled by the citizens of this nation through legeslation. While there are many sides and opinions, I will not try to diminish the importance of anyone's opinion that has THE RIGHT TO VOTE. In a nutshell, this is an issue central to the control of guns. You have to ask yourself who in Cincinatti is using these guns to hurt people. Is it a voting citizen, contributor to society? Sometimes they may very well be but I am sure that the overwhelming offenses involving guns are commited by those who have lost the right of suffrage through felonius crimes. Furthermore, these people are using guns that they by law cannot carry, use, purchase, etc.
None of those reasons keep them from ghetting guns now, and I seriously doubt that any law banning guns will keep these folks from acquiring them through whatever means available to them. It seems that the clever slogan " if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" may well ring true. On a personal note, I live in metropolatain New Orleans. We have a hard working a dedicated police force but like all civil athorities, they are limited by manpower shortages and may very well be outgunned by some of our indegenous populace. I therefore vote against any further control of guns by the government, not to mention that it would be a violation of my civil rights- something that our new President should in fact be very sensitive to- taking into account his ethnicity.
I would like to go just beyond the obvious construct that only outlaws will have guns in a post-guncontrol world. In the far flung regions of the world, (Pakistan, Afganastan, ect.) automatic firearms are made by hand with crude tools. We can only interdict a small amount of the tons of narcotics shipped into the united states. What makes anyone think that banning or effectively banning through taxation and regulation would limit the number of guns in the hands of thugs. Would anyone want to be in the impotent position of the Mexican civilians forced to live among armed gangs. Gun violence is a symptom of a greater underlying disease in society. Gun bans are the tylenol given to a patient for a fever caused by a systemic and virulent infection. The fever won't kill you in and of itself but you'll be dead all the same.
Taking guns from the law abiding citizens of this country would be a horrible mistake…Do you really think that criminals could not still get guns? "IF" that was even a remote possibility…we would "NOT" have a drug problem today. Even, if it was possible to keep this country free of guns, I would still be against gun control, as in denying the right to keep and bear arms…We have many countries that would just love that!
cathy, it's our Constitutional rights to own a gun. We don't NEED a gun, but the minute they want to take our rights away, is the minute I want one. Ordinary people will be the ones that the law takes advantage of because they can. Stop being so naive. They want to control us, beginning with our rights.
Really that is the key there. It is our right to own the guns, the moment the government tries to take them away they are breaking our rights. That is exactly why the founding fathers put that into the constitution was so that the people could protect themselves from a tyrannical government that wanted to take away our rights. So what right would a tyrannical government logically go after first? The one meant to stop them. make sense to me.
I like your spelling of the Cons***utional rights. I we should start refering to our Representatives as Ex-Cons for thier abandonment of the original constitutional principles.
You know where easiest targets are for robberies and muggings? Answer: Outside the places that "Ban Guns on the Premises". The criminals know that whoever walks out that door is not armed and they are.
Cathy, have you ever seen the reports from Australia AFTER they took their guns away? Crime has gone rampid.
No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson
How would you feel, and hopefully this won't happen, if forces from your own government put your life, or the lives of your family, in jeapardy? Wouldn't you want to protect your life? You have to remember our founding fathers dealt with that reality. It is a right that needs to remain in place.
Check to see how many of those doing the shooting have legally obtained guns! I believe that I am capable and have the right to own a gun (which I do) but I, at 56 years of age am not going to go on a shooting spree. The right to bear arms is mine as an American…as it is your right not to if you choose.
Because the BAD GUYS have them and will use them.
If I lived in Cincinnati where at least two or three people were shot every day. I WOULD INSIST ON OWNING A GUN. I would do so because I would need it to protect myself and my family from those who chose to use guns improperly.
I want to add another quote to your experience: If you take guns from law abiding citizens then the only people with guns will be those who do not obey the law: the criminals.
I own a gun to protect myself from criminals.
Ordinary people that look at History and you see where Governments have dragged unarmed people and placed them in slavory and prison camps and forced their will on them. If these same victims had had guns and the will to protect themselves maybe History would have been rewritten. This also brings to mind the young lady who recently was home alone and I'll call them strangers broke in their home with the intent to do bodily harm. This young lady took up arms and saved her life. If sheep could bare arms do you think wolves would have their way with them?
Guns are illegal in Mexico, Most if not all of Central and South America. That has stopped gun violence. opp, maybe not. When the UK and Austraila banned guns, break-ins in which the occupant was home sky-rocketed. Its not the guns, it is the lack of family values that causes the crime. I will admitt, having a gun may make it easier to rob, but it also makes it easier to protect.
I understand your feeling on this matter, but I would be willing to bet that if you investigate the shootings in your city, the vast majority are involving illegally obtained firearms. Most violent crimes are committed with illegal firearms. Why would a criminal who is willing to commit armed robbery or murder decide to obey a gun law? Stricter gun control laws only affect law abiding citizens who almost always would'nt commit a violent crime in the first place. They don't address the core problem, WHY IS THE CRIME BEING COMMITTED IN THE FIRST PLACE? Also, many people own guns for hobbies, collecting, hunting and yes, personal protection of life and property. Hope you will consider the points made in this comment.
Cathy, I am 33 years old and have never owned a gun. I have only fired a few guns, and that was when visiting family in Kentucky. I don't think that I need a gun to protect myself… YET! The direction of the country (in my opinion) is such that some sort of protection is warranted now. Just look at all the radical changes in foreign policy for example. Usama Bin Laden once called America "The Weak Horse." What does it say to him, and others like him that we now won't even lable his followers "enemy combatents?" If they thought we were weak before, their perception of that lie must be growing. Hence increasing the likelihood of another attack. For the first time in my life I am considering purchasing a weapon.
Great. Be sure to get proper training though.
There were 143 gun-related murders in Washington DC in 2007, compared with 135 in 1976, when the handgun ban was enacted. I'm curious to see the new stats since the ban was struck down as unconsititutional last year.
What was the population of DC in 76 and 2007. The ratio between the two will tell you if it has fallen or risen. Then the new stats will tell you what effect the law change has had, I would think.
Neither Preditor nor prey.
Simple Cathy. To protect ourselves against the unordinary people who don't odey the law,and its a constitional right.
Based on your logic we don't need seat belts or motorcycle helmets. I will wear a seat belt and helmet my entire life but hope to never need them. The same goes for my concealed weapon. When you think about it I spend a very small amount of my life in a seat belt or helmet. I spend a large amount of my life out in public surrounded by people. Anyone at anytime could pose a threat to my life.
If you don't own and know how to use a concealed weapon then it is a waste of time to put on your seat belt because you just plain don't care about your personal safety.
Let me preface by stating that I am a female… and do not carry a gun. But I do understand the detriment that would be caused by taking our right to bear arms. For all of us – even those who never owned or carried a gun – our safety would be in jeapordy. If the government prohibits the right to bear arms, those honest and law abiding people you spoke of will give up their weapons, as required. However, you should be prepared for the fact that those people who are not honest and law abiding will certainly keep their weapons, because now they have a real advantage, don't they? We will all become very vulnerable to those who illegally hung on to (or bought) their firearms. And that us why establishing gun control is more dangerous than leaving our right to bear arms in tact. The statistical data for murder and homicide would rise to an alarming rate.
Here's a little gun history for you about what has happened in other countries who did away with a citizen's right to bear firearms: In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Now with those stats look up H.R. 645 http://www.govtrack.us/ and ask yourself why military bases.
People own guns for many reasons. Like any hobby, some people enjoy going to a shooting range and firing at targets. Banning guns will not solve any of the problems that people claim they cause. I lived in England for 5 years and know first hand that their gun ban has not solved anything. People have just resorted to other weapons, such as knives to commit crimes and hurt people. As much as we want to believe that all people are good, that is just not true. There are people who for no good reason want to hurt other people and they will find a way, with or without guns.
Cathy, I live in the greater Cincy area. My husband and I have our conceal and carry license and own guns legally. It's because of the criminals that have guns-and will have guns no matter what the law says-that our right to bear arms needs to be upheld. I am willing to bet that the shootings you are talking about were committed by criminals with no regard for the law. I want to be able to defend myself and my family in the event of a break-in or attack. We are ordinary people and responsible gun owners. If you do not feel comfortable owning a gun that is perfectly understandable. But I do not want anyone telling me that I have to give mine up so that only the criminals are armed.
When You Outlaw Guns, Only Outlaws Have Guns.
I quote robert duvall from open range."A man has a right to protect his property" The second amendment was written for the sole purpose of fear of tyranny in government {the third reich comes to mind here}.This right shall not be infringed which is, by both sides of the aisle.I for one HAVE THE RIGHT to defend myself,my family,my property.I am a law abiding citizen who owns firearms for both protection and the simple fact the government wants to take them away.Good luck with that.Criminals will always find the means to do their dirty deeds,if the law abiding american citizen is disarmed then it's easy pickins for the greaseballs out their.Do you want some convicted felon kicking in your door at 2 a.m. with nothing to defend yourself with? Think about your post."An armed society is polite society"
Cathy, with the exception of 2 shootings in Cincinnati— all have been drug and/or gang related… chances are if you are not doing illegal drugs and are not a member of a gang you won't be shot. The 2nd Amendment is something that ALL Americans should hold dear to their hearts regardless of whether or not one owns a gun. If the police can not make it to you to protect you or your family, a firearm is a wonderful equalizer.
I don't know how it is in Cincinnati but down here in the Cajun country we sleep with our guns, it's a way of life passed on from our fathers. So much has been taken from us that we need to know that we are the last line of defense.
"Why do ordinary people who obey the law feel they must have a gun?"
Why do I have guns:
1 – Because it is my right that I defended in the Navy
2 – For the Non-ordinary people that prey on the ordinary.
3 – I like to target shoot
4 – I like to hunt.
Not to attack you but before you ask me to give up my 2nd amendment right are you will to give up your 19th amendment right…

''What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance?'' – Thomas Jefferson
One thing is the right to own a firearm is gauranteed in our constitution. Secondly, An awful lot of people (including myself) would not be here today if not for the fact that they used a firearm for self defense. Even more people use them for hunting and sport shooting. If you have never tried target or competition shooting maybe you should. It's alot of fun. Lastly, Our constitution gave us the right and more importantly, the responsibility to keep firearms for the sole purpose of protecting the freedom of our country from a tyranical government such as we now have.
Guns are the reason America is a safe place. It's a right protected by the constitution. If someone broke into my home I have the choice of waiting on one of two things: The amount of time it takes the bullet to exit the gun or The amount of time it takes to call 911 and wait for an officer to get free and drive to my house. My chances of survival with a gun are far better than if I had to fight him off un-armed.
Bless your heart…when someone breaks into your home trying to kill you or your family….would you want to protect yourself? What kind of comment did you just make? Someone has to pulll the trigger, the gun just doesn't walk up to someone and it go off! I hope no one ever tries to assault you or your in the position where you would need a gun, but remember when that happens, you said "americans do not need to protect theirselves, we don't need guns." So, good luck but keep your comments to yourself. Ordinary people obey the law and just want the right to bear arms to protect ourself which is the 2nd ammed. Come on….
I will use my voting rights first. I will vote against any person from any party who was part of this heinous spending bill, unread by all who signed or voted for it! If we all do that and vote everyone out after 6 years in office we will have term limits, something we will never have otherwise. Term limits is what will save the country from the terrible corruption that is taking place.
I'd like to add that we need to vote these people out in the primaries. Otherwise too many people will simply vote for the "lesser of two evils" as per usual. We need to ensure they have a REAL choice in November 2010.
Can we have our payroll taxes not taken out and refuse to pay come April 15? Would that be a true tea party?
I agree 100%. I live in NY and am looking to start a tea party for the downstate area. I think getting out the folks that are fed up with this administration and his associates need to be heard, an loudly, at that. I think we need to find a constitutional lawyer to find out how O's decisions, and those of his administration have violated the Constitution we all??? hold dear.
Voting works but there is a great need for Americans to develop critical thinking skills and adopt the attitude of "PROVE IT, DON"T JUST SAY IT". So far, O has proven that all he is a socialist and doesn't need to answer to the American people. Let's get rid of him!
I have been stocking up on ammunition for my SKS (2 cases), my.38 Colt Agent (several boxes), and my .30-30 Winchester. The prices haven't gone up yet, but the stores around here (northern Minnesota) are sold out most days and can't get resupplied quickly. I would suggest everyone move quickly to stock up. I believe the Obama peoople will try to shut us down by cutting off our ammunition, as they know getting our guns will be a fight they can't win.
I raised my right hand, both as a soldier and once again as a military civilian employee, and took an oath to defend the United States Constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic. Our Constitution, the very basis upon which our country was founded, is under attack by its most powerful doemestic enemy ever. I will not rest, nor will I give up until those enemies cease those attacks. This battle will likely be fought on paper and through peaceful means, but is no less of an important battle for America. Just as I was willing to take up arms to defend against terrorists, I'm willing to write, email and blog until my fingers bleed to ensure the Constitution remains there for my children and grandchildren to read and know that I fought to give them those rights.
HR45 is a direct attack on the Constitution of the United States. We have a duty as Americans, whether or not you have any desire to ever own a gun, to force the hand of those who are supposed to represent us and stop the attacks on our freedoms and way of life.
Are you listening Mr. President?
I suggest to those who are considering a first time gun purchase, to utilize your local gun range and practice with different types of hand guns. Many gun ranges allow renting a gun(s) you can practice firing on location. Safety classes are always a must. And, remember if you THINK you need to learn to use a handgun and you THINK you should purchase one, YOU are probably right. Instinct should never be questioned, as listening to our human instincts are our first line of survival.
My thoughts exactly
If I could afford a hand gun I would buy one. I am 38 and have never owned a gun before in my life but REALLY think the time is coming that I will need to own one. It is on my list to save for.
What does it matter if everyone voted for him? He made promises he is not living up to… where is the change? What about lobbyists, earmarks, transparency. If you are elected on certain promises, and you do not follow through, those that voted for you should have every right to "bash" you. I keep hoping that Obama will live up to his promises, even though I did not vote for him (because I did not beleive him). His signing of the 9000 earmarks into law proves he just spouted what he thought what get him elected, and now he is running his own agenda, and continuing the "politics as usual" approach.
NO, not most of the people voted for him….most of the people voted for him, that voted,…which was only about 50% of eligible voters…Of those who voted he got somewhere in the range of 52-55% (depends on who's reporting) so at best less than 30% of "ELIGIBLE VOTERS" voted this man into the seat of the Presidency…Think about that, 30% of qualified voters….Sad that eligible voters are not more serious about their right and duty to vote!
Ive got news for you charles. Barry won on a 52%-46% margin. Thats hardly most of america. 50+ million people voted against him. Not to even get into how his boys at acorn helped that liar steel the election and the media being his little lapdog. The guy is a lying S-O-B, marxist and a baby killer. Someone who wants to turn this country into a socialist cesspool of lazy do-nothings doesnt deserve a "chance." The sooner you wake up and realize he is a scumbag, the better off you'll be. And thank you for your service, you faught communists and now we have a president taking us down that road. That doesnt piss you off??
All I can say is Hitler was also elected. Check your German History.
I wish I knew about this event ahead of time. I hope to make it to the April 15th event
I served 12 years in the Army during the Vietnam war and I love my country too! There is no way this president is going to get our country out of the mess it is in. He is out there taking care of his own agenda and too bad for those of us who are hurt, He said he if for the "working class" but it seems like he is for the unemployed class and I'm getting ready to join them Why should I work hard, 12 hours a day to have all my money taken away in taxes to support those who won't work??? I believe he won with a 52% majority. That doesn;t mean everybody voted for him, just slightly more than half of the population voted for him. Big difference.
You hate to see where we are going, but you want to get behind the guy taking us there??? I hope you weren't the one steering the ship while in the Navy.
If you don't give him a chance Norm, How will we ever know what kind of man he is. He's only been in office two months. Im sure things look different now than when he was running for President.
That's a good point. Things must certainly look different. However, this is not justification for breaking promises to the American people. How many lies does it take to figure out he is a liar? How many times have to tax the rich and give money to people who are poor to figure out he believes in redistribution of wealth? How much does he have to grow the government's control to figure out he is a socialist?
No Charles, he had his chance. In two short months he has blown it! The next question is what will it take for you to realize that?
Maybe you agree with socialism and redistribution of wealth, but lying? Anyway the principles of the 912 project are certainly against all 3.
Here again you are expressing your ignorance…Give him a chance…what are you insane we knew all this was going to happen BEFORE the election…WE KNEW WHAT KIND OF MAN HE IS AND WAS BEFORE THE ELECTION…WAKE THE HECK UP …it's going to get worse…or you can't see that far into the future…heck, he already told us what he's going to do…you must not listen very closely…maybe you need to study a little Marxism and Rules For Radicals by Saul Alinsky
I don't know why you are here charles you obviously have your head in the sand. It is plain to see that he reneged on what was promised before his election, to get elected. He just continues where Bush left off. "I am an American Patriot and I love the Constitution!"
Good point, They look worse everyday. What campaign promise has he upheld. The only thing he has proved is he can spend more than W Bush. I guess you weren't on the USS Cole. I guess you weren't in Iraq. Why would he let those killers lose on any society? He going to raise every tax there is but yours? The more you spend the more you have to pay off. You get that don't you? What did Mossolini do in Italy? What did Hitler do in Germany? What did Stalin do in Russia? We don't want to see that in America. Why don't you go somewhere else? Obama plan is available somewhere else. Then don't try to send us somewhere else. Our country was made what it is today by free thinkers!
A distinguishing feature of capitalism is that each person owns his or her own labor and therefore is allowed to sell the use of it to employers.[3][7] In a "capitalist state", private rights and property relations are protected by the rule of law of a limited regulatory framework.Clearly the "messiah" missed out on this "LAISSEZ-FAIRE" Read ayn rand and watch the mike wallace interviews on youtube with ayn rand dated 1959
We were supposed to have his record to review and a long, strong voting history to gauge him by. I'm not happy about finding his weaknesses once he's The President of The United States. This supports the argument that he did not have the experience to be president.
Napolitano, our new Homeland Security Secretary says "We don't have any problems in the US with the Mexican Drug Cartel. When we do, we will deal with it." It was reported on TV last week that there are currently Mexican Drug Lords in nearly 195 cities across the US RIGHT NOW. Hey Ms. Napolitano, WAKE UP!
My personal opinion is, "This lady has NO CLUE!" Good choice Mr. President!
Hey he's a Serviceman! Show some respect
All the smoke and mirrors that the DNC and their friends in the main stream media are coming to light now. Anyone who cannot speak without the aid of a telepromter cannot have the qualifications to be the world's most powerful man.
Oh, and we are joining the NRA.
